Marrying in Washington, DC, was a no-brainer for natives Erika Westry (36 and an attorney) and Marcus Davis (35 and a physician), who booked their bash at District Winery while it was still under construction. “The best part of picking our venue was watching it being built,” Erika says. Opulent accents like gilded chargers juxtaposed the site’s woodwork and wine barrels. “I wanted to create a luxurious, glam feeling to an otherwise minimalist space,” Erika says. Guests left with whitechocolate-covered Oreos shaped like gemstones—the ultimate finale for such a swanky soiree. After the celebration, the newlyweds hit up Shake Shack. “The perfect counterbalance to our day,” Erika says. —RS

FASHION Australian designer Leah Da Gloria created Erika’s custom mermaid-style gown with a sweetheart neckline.

LOCATION “We wanted to transport guests to a regal event in a downtown urban setting,” Erika says of why they chose District Winery. CAKES A black fondant-covered almond cake with blueberry jam and cream cheese frosting, plus two cement-gray cakes—red velvet with cream cheese frosting and coconut with passion curd filling—rounded out the last course. ATTIRE Marcus wore a dog pin and purple socks as a nod to his fraternity at Yale. ARRANGEMENTS Orchids were a sentimental addition to the groupings of hydrangeas, roses and coxcomb. “They were my mom’s favorite flower and filled the room with her presence,” Marcus says. STATIONERY A gold wax seal designed with the couple’s initials and black-on-black printing gave the suite an art deco flair.
