This film really is an audio and visual tour de force.

The Walmington-on-sea home guard deal with a visiting female journalist and a German spy as World War Two draws to its conclusion. This film has a familiar feel to the television show with the classic catch phrases but also stands alone as a funny and slapstick take on the home guard. Fans will not be disappointed.

In 1947 Trumbo (Cranston) was Hollywood’s top screenwriter until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs. This film relates how Dalton used words and wit to win Academy Awards and expose the absurdity and injustice under the blacklist, which entangled everyone from columnist Hedda Hopper (Mirren) to John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger.

Friday 27th May at 7.30pm and Saturday 28th May at 7.30pm Dir: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen| Country USA| Year 2016|100 mins Cast |Josh Brolin, George Clooney Royston Picture Palace is proud to bring you another star studded film from the directors Joel and Ethan Coen (True Grit). It follows a day in the life of Eddie Mannix (Brolin), a Hollywood fixer for Capitol Pictures in the 1950’s, who cleans up and solves problems for big names and stars in the industry. But when star Baird Whitlock (Clooney) disappears, Mannix has to deal with more than just the fix.
Word from the Royston Picture Palace Firstly a big thanks for your continued support, in what has so far been a very successful start to 2016. Heading into Spring we have some award winning films to start you off with multi-Oscar winning The Revenant kicking things off, including best actor Leonardo DeCaprio in the lead role. Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Road Chip is April’s Saturday matinee, with another chance to come in fancy dress if you so wish, maybe in the colours of Simon, Theodore and Alvin. Brie Larson recently won the Best Actress award for Room, which is next up, with Quentin Tarrentino’s The Hateful Eight, very different after that. If you fancy some insightful comedy then The Big Short will be right up your street, and if you desire top acting from Hollywood legends, look no further than Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Jane Fonda and the impressive Paul Dano in Youth, from the director of the Great Beauty. We end the month, and there’s definitely nothing to panic about, when we show Dad’s Army in the last weekend of April. Moving into May, our matinee is Kung Fu Panda 3, with Helen Mirren and Bryan Cranston starring in Trumbo on that Saturday night. Sure to be a crowd favourite we have the wonderfully funny Eddie the Eagle flying in to the Picture Palace for the weekend of 14th and 15th of May, with the tense Secrets in their Eyes starring Nicole Kidman to follow. Receiving critical acclaim, Tom Hiddleston is magnificent in the adaptation of J G Ballard’s High Rise, with an all-star lineup completing our program in Hail Caesar the latest masterpiece from the Coen Brothers. Just a note about picking up your tickets, if possible could you please bring your confirmation emails either on paper or on your phone, as we have moved across to a new box office system and this will speed things up.
