Rupert Everett| 2018 Ger/Belg/UK/Italy 105 mins | Cast Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Emily Watson, Colin Morgan Under the microscope of death Oscar Wilde reviews the failed attempt to reconcile with his long suffering wife Constance, the ensuing reprisal of his fatal love affair with Lord Alfred Douglas and the warmth and devotion of Robbie Ross who tried and failed to save him from himself. The Happy Prince is a portrait of the dark side of a genius who lived and died for love in the last days of the nineteenth century.

By exposing the local townsfolk to the best literature of the day, she opens their eyes. Her activities bring her a kindred spirit and ally, Mr Brundish who is sick of the town’s stale atmosphere. This mini social revolution soon brings her fierce enemies: she invites the hostility of the town’s less prosperous shopkeepers and Mrs. Gamart.

Initially keeping their personal lives in the locker, the ramshackle squad and coach Susan slowly learn to reveal their inner lives. But can they get their lives and routines in sync as they embark on an unlikely journey to compete in the World Championship?

Kevin Macdonald|2018 UK | USA 120 mins This haunting, richly contextualised documentary portrait celebrates the pop supernova who became a one-woman hit factory in the 1980s and ‘90s. But it delves more deeply into the troubled persona behind the prodigiously talented star. Houston was beset by issues of image and identity, sexuality and childhood trauma that became more combustible under the pressures of a bad marriage, a drug habit and a stinging betrayal by the father she idolised.

Her first step is to assemble the perfect crew – which just happens to be all-female. This star-studded spin-off of the Ocean’s trilogy is wildly entertaining.

Debra Granik|2018 USA 109 mins|Cast Ben Foster, Thomasin McKenzie, Jeff Kober, Dale Dickey Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, live a perfect but off-the-grid existence in Forest Park, a beautiful nature reserve near Portland, Oregon, rarely making contact with the outside world. When a small mistake tips them off to authorities, they are sent on an increasingly erratic journey in search of a place to call their own. A profound and striking story about love, family, loyalty, understanding and compassion from Debra Granik.
