Bohemian Rhapsody (12A)

The meteoric rise of the band is followed by Mercury’s attempt at a solo career as his lifestyle spirals out of control and he faces a diagnosis of AIDS. The film reaches its climax with one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music as the band triumphantly reunites for the Live Aid concert in 1985.
Widows (15)
Saturday 8th December at 7.30pm The new film from Oscar-winner Steve McQueen is a pulsating, female-led heist thriller set against a backdrop of crime, passion and corruption, adapted by Gillian Flynn from the Lynda La Plante TV series but transposed to contemporary Chicago. Four women, with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities, find empowerment and unexpected solidarity in tackling their men’s unfinished business. A big, twisty, satisfying film with a superb ensemble cast. Book online at www.roystonpicturepalace.org.uk
Peterloo (12A)
Friday 14th December at 7.30pm Veteran filmmaker Mike Leigh has crafted a sobering and immersive look at the 1819 Peterloo Massacre. Four years after the British defeated Napoleon on the field at Waterloo, a different kind of battle was fought, this time on English soil at St. Peter’s Field in Manchester. Leigh orchestrates a superb ensemble cast to weave multiple stories of everyday people into a socialist tapestry. Warm, intelligent and incendiary, this is an important work of cinematic history.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (12A)
Saturday 15th December at 7.30pm Magizoologist Newt Scamander joins forces with young Albus Dumbledore to prevent the devious Gellert Grindelwald from raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
“Royston Picture Palace has certainly generated a large audience, Marshalls are pleased to support a truly worthy community facility that brings joy to the residents from the local area. The large cinema complexes are nice, but the Picture Palace is very special. Long may it continue.”
