Gallagher fans get ready!

Liam Gallagher is set to star in his own film. The rockumentary, entitled ‘As It Was’, will see Liam tell his life story “in his own words for the first time”. The film will feature footage from some of his biggest live shows over the last year, including an emotional homecoming gig at the O2 Ritz where Liam paid tribute to the 22 who lost their lives in the arena bombing.

seemed as though The Bluetones were gone for good. That was until a 20th-anniversary reunion tour alongside Happy Mondays, in 2015, suggested they weren’t quite done yet. Under the banner ‘The First Decade: 1995-2005’, the 90s era Britpop heroes make another welcome return to the stage, revisiting tracks from their 1996 debut album ‘Expecting To Fly’ and others from their earlier - and most popular - back catalogue.

debut album, ‘Nihilistic Glamour Shots’ this March, alongside an accompanying run of UK dates. The neo-nihilistic foursome, with their penchant for political contempt and lyrics packed with irreverent social commentary, are taking to the stage once again this May. The night, curated by the band and titled ‘Glamour at Thee Ritz’, features some of their favourites including The Rhythm Method, PINS, Blinders and more.

29.05.18

Volbeat

O2 Ritz | £23ADV | 7pm

Hailing from Copenhagen, Danish hard rockers Volbeat are known for their distinctive and groovy mix of rock’n’roll, heavy metal, punk and rockabilly. Citing legends such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash as their inspiration, the band also draw influence from the likes of AC/ DC, Social Distortion, The Misfits and Metallica. Now a globally recognised outfit, they are back with a bang for 2018, warming up for their appearance at Download Festival. 30.05.18

James Bay

Courtney Barnett Manchester Academy £22.50ADV | 7pm

Aussie singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett is known for her witty, rambling lyrics and deadpan dictation. Her conversational delivery and garage rock-infused folk-pop style has won critical acclaim, and a heavily anticipated first full-length release, ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit’ received cult success, as well as BRIT and Grammy nominations. After duetting with Kurt Vile, Barnett is now touring her new album, ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’. 05.06.18

Rhye

O2 Ritz | £16.50ADV | 7pm

Rhye’s ambiguous music videos first appeared on the internet in a whirlwind of suggestive imagery. A distinctive falsetto sound shrouded in mystery. Two initial singles and debut album ‘Woman’ received high critical praise from the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian, and the New York Times, and the band have since toured relentlessly across America and further afield in order to establish a global fan base. Armed with a second full-length album, ‘Blood’, Rhye will bring breathtaking vocals and intimate R&B-influenced, soul-pop beats straight to Manchester.

Combining elements of pop, R&B and dance, his own sound is thought-provoking and musically diverse, gaining endorsements from artists such as A$AP Rocky and London Grammar. Celebrating the release of his latest EP ‘Imaginarium’, Bipolar Sunshine will be hitting up his hometown for a party.

Thom Yorke

Palace Theatre | FRM£45 | 7pm

As well as fronting one of the biggest acts of the 1990s and 2000s, collaborations with the likes of Flying Lotus, Burial, Four Tet, and SBTRKT, and heading the Afrobeatinspired band Atoms For Peace, elusive Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke counts a pair of low-key solo albums amongst his oeuvre - that is as influential as it is experimental. Along with a new single, ‘Youwouldn’tlikemewhenI’mangry’, Yorke is set to embark on a run of headline shows performing with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and visual artist Tarik Barri, plus special guest, cellist and film score producer Oliver Coates.

Small Packs Of Tissues:

Drink Water:

Take handy packs of tissues, the ones that come in waterproof packaging and fit in your pocket. Loo roll often ends up getting wet somehow, especially if it’s chucking it down and your bag or tent isn’t very waterproof. Also, if you’re a boy, and you take toilet roll with you to a portaloo, everyone pretty much knows you’re going for a poo. It’s obvs.

Wellies: Even if the weather is lovely, always try to wear your wellies when off to the loos at a festival. You do not know what you might be stepping in and what looks like mud, probably isn’t mud.

Drink lots of water. I’ve heard it’s good for you? It might balance out all the booze and burger van food, and prevent the need to chuck up - no one wants to be sick in a portaloo.

Festival Toilet Tips The toilet situation is the most off-putting thing about music festivals. Let’s face it; it’s never going to be a pleasurable experience spending a penny (and often losing a wallet!) down the toilet. Late nights, burger vans, and drinking whole crates of beer can culminate in very disgusting toilets, so we thought we’d share our tips for happy crapping!

Camping Distance: From experience, never camp right next to the toilets! It may seem like a good idea for handy access during the night and early mornings but trust me if it pours it down with rain, the toilets will become flooded, and the filth that rises up from the loos, will join up with the puddles of mud surrounding your tent. It is, however, a good idea to camp near enough so you can see the toilets, then you are less likely to get lost after a late night, drunken trip to them. 32

Wake Up: The early bird catches the worm. So, if you’re an early riser, try and get to the toilet as soon as you wake up. Usually they will have been cleaned first thing and if you beat everyone else from their pits, you might have a more pleasant experience.

Anti-bacterial Hand Gel: Resign yourself to the fact you’re not going to be able to wash your hands for a few days. Instead, take antibacterial hand gel with you. Apply it once you have left the toilet, so your hands don’t have to touch the dirty toilet doors. Anti-bacterial gel is also great for giving the seat a quick wipe before you sit down. You can also get anti-bacterial wipes to do this job, which you can buy in pocket-size packets!

It is cruel that they even serve spicy food at festivals but do not be tempted!

Small Torch: Take a small torch with you for night time toilet trips - you don’t want to sit on something nasty!

Main Stage Loos: Toilets by the Main Stage get more of a hammering, and because of this they do tend to be cleaned more often. Whilst you’re watching your favourite bands keep an eye out for when the cleaners arrive, then take this as your opportunity to pounce!

Long Drops: Try to avoid long drops at all cost! Instead, opt for the normal portaloos. Long drops have marked the end for many a mobile phone, wallet and packets of cigarettes. Trust me you won’t want to retrieve them once they have dropped in (although many have tried)! Once you have pulled your trousers down, anything in your back pocket could come a cropper (or a crapper)!

VIPee Loos: If your feeling flushed (pardon the pun!) you can pay for VIPee loos at most festivals. It’s usually a oneoff fee for the weekend, most of them have sinks and there's guaranteed loo roll. Whoopee!

No Currys!:

Take A Walk: People are lazy, and the further away the toilet is, the least it will be used, and therefore it will be the cleanest. Simple. 33
