Can you help Re-Home a Dog from Acres Way Kennels? Adopting a Dog

f you think you can offer a dog a good home, the first thing you need to do is to go down to the kennels, select a suitable dog you like, take it for a walk and see how you get on. Some people and dogs just don’t get along, so before reserving a dog, the Acres Way staff would need to see if you suit each other. If you have children, or another dog, they recommend that you bring them with you, to make sure that everyone will get on. Once you have visited the dogs, and hopefully found one that matches your lifestyle and expectations, a member of staff will arrange a convenient time for a home check. These are usually carried out within 2 or 3 days of your visit and take about half an hour. Once the home check is complete, you’ll be able to collect

your dog. You will need to bring with you some identification showing your current address, and the £130 adoption fee. Their staff will be on hand if you have any questions, and will be able to guide you through the adoption process. here can you invest for a decent return?

Whilst it is impossible to give specific advice to someone without setting out their objectives and their appetite for investment risk, we are seeing that most people are now aware that they need to take some risk to get any return at all. We do not believe that rates will rise substantially for many years so cash deposits, Cash ISAs and government savings vehicles are going to carry on delivering next to nothing for a while to come, so a huge number of people have turned to direct investment in property. This has driven up property prices too high and the Government is keen on reining in this price growth, to make the property market more sustainable and accessible for those needing to buy an affordable house to live in. The changes include the removal of higher rate tax relief on mortgage interest, stamp duty for investment properties will be rising significantly from April, Capital Gains Tax on property sales will have to be reported within 30 days from 2019, and worryingly, there is a huge increase in supply of investible property coming through at the same time - just look at the thousands of flats being built in the area. The long term issues associated with investing in property are still there of course, potential of unpaid rents, property management issues, repairs and maintenance. These could have more of an impact if returns do become lower and all need careful consideration. It is likely that the returns from residential property will therefore slow dramatically over the next few years. So, to go back to the burning question at the top, if it’s not ‘cash’ or residential property, what should you invest in? We are concerned that too many people place too much reliance on property and prices will not keep rising for ever. Property has it’s place, but it should form part of a diversified portfolio. At Joseph Lamb we have been running an investment service for 11 years that has delivered consistent returns by diversifying across a range of investment types. We invest in stocks and shares when we feel risk levels are not too high in the UK or in overseas markets when appropriate. We blend this investment with traditional cash, commercial property ( which appears to be a good couple of years behind residential and still showing strong potential), and government or corporate bonds.

Our portfolios come in 6 risk levels, from Low to very High, so most people can be catered for, and have delivered excellent returns, ranging from 3.93% to 8.07% per annum after all costs and charges, since launch in October 2004. With property it is not possible to sell part of it and selling a whole property can take many months and cost thousands of pounds. Despite all the recent doom and gloom and uncertainty, we have still delivered 5.32% for our Medium Risk Portfolio after ongoing charges over the last year, and with low energy prices, low commodity prices, low wages (as they haven’t really risen since the crisis), and very cheap borrowing becoming more widely available, we believe the prospects for investing in a diversified portfolio look as good as ever. We can even save you some tax by using tax wrappers such as ISAS and pensions. Whilst investment ISAs are not deposits and like all investments will go up and down in value, just compare the long term returns with your cash ISAs! 10 Tips to make you fitter and healthier! I’m Sarah and I’m a Personal Trainer at Club One Hundred in Leigh on Sea. I spent years struggling with my weight, trying various diets and gym routines that didn’t work and left me bored and unmotivated. It wasn’t until I hired a personal trainer that I received the advice and guidance I needed around nutrition, exercise and my general wellness, and that’s when the changes really started to happen for me. As a trainer myself now, I am often asked for tips for losing weight and getting fitter. There are many things that I suggest to people, but here are some of my favourite tips for weight loss and wellbeing;  Keep a food diary for a week and record EVERYTHING you eat and drink and how you feel at the beginning and end of each day, this gives you a good starting point to look at any changes that you could make.  Switch your tea or coffee for green tea which is great for burning body fat. As an added bonus you’ll still get your caffeine kick but with more antioxidants which are great for your body!  Drink plenty of water and put a slice of fresh lime in your glass, this will give the water some flavour and help to make your body more alkaline which in turn will help you burn body fat.  Eat a good high protein breakfast, for example scrambled eggs with salmon and spinach, this will get your metabolism fired up for the day and will keep you fuller for longer.  Switch processed carbs like bread and pasta for low GI carbs like sweet potato, butternut squash and parsnips.  Include a green vegetable at each main meal, such as broccoli, kale, spinach, cucumber, watercress, rocket, green peppers, courgette. These are full of essential vitamins, minerals and fibre!  Move more in your day to day life, for example take the stairs at work, walk the dog for five minutes longer, clean the car yourself, do anything that gets you moving more.  Find a form of exercise that you enjoy! Why not take a dance or martial arts class, or try a sport you have always liked the look of, because when you enjoy exercise you are more likely to do it.  Take a good quality liquid fish oil supplement, this will reduce inflammation in the body as well as aid weight loss.  Make sure you are getting enough sleep, lack of sleep can leave you feeling irritable, unable to concentrate and also contributes to increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol in the body, which contributes to fat storage around the stomach area. History of Castle Point

Chapman Lighthouse - Canvey Island

hapman lighthouse was built in 1851 to warn passing boats of the off shore mud flats.

As the river bed was very unstable, it was not possible to build a conventional lighthouse so a screw pile structure was constructed with accommodation for three keepers. The lighthouse was an iron lattice structure built on seven screw piles driven about 40 feet into the river mud. The living accommodation consisted of a living room, bedroom, kitchen/washroom and a storeroom. The bedroom contained three bunks - one each for the principle keeper and his two assistants. A light tower was fixed on top of the living quarters. The tower was 74 feet high and the light visible for about 11 miles. The whole structure was painted red. There was also a fog-warning bell attached to the tower that gave three strokes in quick succession every 15 seconds during foggy conditions. At low tide it was possible to walk or wade across the half mile of mud to reach the lighthouse and during high tide, there was often a pleasure boat taking holiday makers on a trip around it. During both world wars, the lighthouse was a used as a marshalling point for ships that assembled in convoys to wait for armed escorts who would accompany them to ports as far away as South Africa.

Eventually, the lighthouse was decommissioned on 14th August 1956 when it was discovered that the iron screw piles were rusting away and it was in danger of collapsing. After 106 years of service, demolition of the Chapman Lighthouse began in 1957 and was completed in 1958.
