. W y e l a H From the Editor If you are looking for the ultimate gift guide, you won’t be disappointed with this issue! From Tara Harper’s aromatherapy treatment to velvet dog collars, we have you covered. My personal favorite is City Lips lip gloss because anyone can wear Tokyo Kiss and look like a beauty! And, who doesn’t love the feel of Zo’s Growth Factor Serum on their skin every morning? Perfect gifts for any occasion and we can hardly keep it stocked in the office. Y’all are loving it! Perhaps, behind all the gifts and glamour, the true luxe life is something far different than any expensive gift can provide. For me, the luxe life is a joyfilled life. It’s the life I am in pursuit of finding. It’s in how you look at life, is the glass half full or half empty? Admittedly, the glass has always been half empty from my perspective. It’s the half empty mentality that leads to fear based decisions, which is simply not the healthiest way to live. Becoming aware of unhealthy behaviors is the first step in finding a joy- filled life. Recently, someone asked me to rate specific areas of my life, including mental, emotional, career, romantic, physical, spiritual and financial on a scale of zero to ten. There were no areas of my life that were a ten. Shocking? Not really. She asked
me, “what would a ten look like for you?” Great question! What WOULD a ten look like? And, how am I going to make that happen? Through this exercise and talking with my friend, I can visualize what a ten life...and for all purposes of this issue...a luxe life can be. It’s up to me to make it happen. The first step in creating my luxe life is bringing levity into my life. Stop being so serious, enjoy the small moments of life and start learning to enjoy life without anticipation and fear. And, specifically start smiling. No one has the perfect luxe life, God never promised us a life without struggle but He equips us with a helper, the Holy Spirit, to rest in His peace. What does a luxe life look like for you?

Sarah Jessica Parker Trades Cosmos for Wine Her iconic character, Carrie Bradshaw, on Sex and the City may have helped make Cosmopolitans popular, but now Sarah Jessica Parker has her sights set on the wine industry. Parker recently collaborated with the Invivo brand to release a Sauvignon Blanc. She even took inspiration from her shoe line to create the label, which features a shade of teal similar to one of her shoe designs. Up next, she’s planning on releasing a rose next spring. Speaking about this new foray, Parker says: “There’s a huge amount to learn, and I’m just trying to completely absorb all I can and immerse myself.”

The Mother of Dragons Meets Father Christmas
How Meghan Markle Is Giving Women the Royal Treatment The royals are often involved in charity work they’re passionate about, and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is no exception. Earlier this year, Markle began working with the nonprofit Smart Works, which provides low-income women with job interview outfits as well as interview training and support. Markle is also bringing an extra element to the organization: She asked several popular designers to create capsule-worthy workwear pieces, and for each piece bought from their line, they’ll donate one to Smart Works. “Not only does this allow us to be a part of each other’s story,” she says, “it reminds us we are in it together.”
We’re coming up on the end of the year, which can only mean one thing: Winter is coming... and so is Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke’s new film. Clarke is swapping the fire of her character’s dragons for the snowy warmth of a seasonal holiday film, Last Christmas, which was co-written by Emma Thompson (who also plays Clarke’s mother) and directed by Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig. The movie also stars Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding and seems to have a bit of everything you want in a holiday film: love, a bit of tragedy and a healthy dost of magic. So grab some hot cocoa and tissues, and get ready for what’s sure to be a new classic.

Lizzo & Justin Timberlake to Collaborate Earlier this summer, this year’s breakout star Lizzo referenced a possible collaboration with Justin Timberlake, and it seems it’s really happening now. In August, Timberlake posted a brief video on Instagram of the two in a studio singing what sounds like a new song. Between the “SexyBack” singer and the self-love advocate and “Juice” singer, the world may not be ready for it—but it’s sure to be a massive hit whenever it drops.

Kelly Clarkson Takes on Daytime TV Kelly Clarkson is adding a new title to her repertoire this fall as she starts hosting her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. The singer is no stranger to television, having gotten her start when she won American Idol and now as a coach on The Voice. Clarkson’s talk show will feature a combination of celebrity interviews, real stories and—no surprises here—music. She’s hoping to foster open conversations and communication, saying: “I love communication and I feel like there's a lot of brokenness with that in the world right now and there's so much division. So I do want my show to be just really inclusive and about connection.”

Music Recommendation: Western Stars — Bruce Springsteen Bruce Springsteen may be synonymous with New Jersey and the shores of the Atlantic, but his latest LP has him striking out for the Pacific coast. Western Stars has tinges and twangs of country folk alongside robust string accompaniments befitting a large stage production. Most of the lyrical themes throughout the album center on aging heroes and their journeys—no surprise, as Springsteen just turned 70 in September. But as his newest album proves, he’s still The Boss.
Book Recommendation: The Conscious Closet — Elizabeth L. Cline Many of us nowadays are trying to be more conscious of making sustainable purchases, whether it’s our food, household products or skincare. But what about our clothing? In The Conscious Closet, journalist and clothing resale expert Elizabeth L. Cline offers tons of info to help you get started with conscious clothing choices. The book offers a deep dive into the fashion world today, including its impacts, and how what we purchase now can make for a better tomorrow—while still remaining fashionably on trend.

Best Fillers For Your Face A simple internet search for “best fillers for your face” will yield an overwhelming amount of reviews, tips, and more – and did you know that we use over nine different fillers at The Look? We’ve made it a little easier for you by making a list of our favorite facial fillers and explanations of their key benefits.
Fine Line and Versatile Fillers
Cheek Fillers
VERSA
VOLUMA
Versa is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid is a common, naturally occurring substance found within the body. This FDA approved versatile filler has been used with great success to correct the appearance of facial wrinkles and creases with natural, even looking results; especially when used to smooth smile and laugh creases around the mouth. It’s our favorite filler for a fuller body lip!
Voluma is a cheek filler created by the Juvederm brand that helps to solve the flattening and sagging skin in the cheeks that can occur with aging, also known as midface volume loss. Voluma adds volume under the skin’s surface, providing a smoother look to the face as well as additional contour, uplifting the cheek area. Voluma is the #1 used filler in our practice.
JUVEDERM
Lip Fillers
Juvederm is the number one selling dermal filler collection worldwide. This popular and effective fine line filler smooths and softens wrinkles and fine lines on the face and temporarily corrects facial wrinkles with results lasting as long as 18 months. This filler is our go-to filler for any area of the face, particularly in the lip region. R E S Y T L A N E LY F T
Resytlane Lyft is a versatile hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved for use in the face and hands. We’ve heard it before, “If you want to know the real age of a woman, look at her hands.” So often our hands are forgotten in our anti-aging treatments, but you can treat both your face and hands in the same appointment, giving you a more consistent youthful-looking appearance. RESTYLANE
Restylane is a fine line filler that can help you fight the signs of facial aging and instantly take years off your look! Restylane adds fullness and volume to those dreaded parenthesis lines around your smile and can also be used as a lip enhancement. Resty, as we like to call it, is great for the area under the eyes, commonly known as the tear trough. RESTYLANE REFYNE
Restylane Refyne is a next generation dermal filler designed with XpresHAn Technology to help soften your laugh lines, restoring a more natural youthful look to your face while maintaining your signature facial expressions that make up so much of who you are. RESTYLANE DEFYNE
Restylane Defyne helps smooth the deep wrinkles found in laugh lines, restoring your youthful appearance and helping you maintain your natural movement and expression. This is our go-to filler for all areas around the lower face because the filler moves the with animation of your expressions!

VOLBELLA
Volbella is Juvederm’s injectable lip filler designed to plump the lips and smooth the appearance of lines around the mouth. Volbella’s natural looking results can last as long as 1 year. RESTYLANE SILK
Restylane Silk is the first FDA approved lip augmentation injectable offering smoother, natural-looking lips by using smaller hyaluronic acid particles. Restylane Silk adds lip volume and shape while smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. FULL FACIAL VOLUME: SCULPTR A
Sculptra works subtly and gradually over an extended period to reverse the effects of aging. Sculptra does not use hyaluronic acid injectables, but rather helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore the skin’s inner composition and increase facial volume. For people with healthy immune systems, this FDA approved collagen stimulator is intended as a treatment of up to four injection sessions scheduled three to four months apart. Are you ready to reclaim your look? As always, we’re here to help you navigate what treatments are best suited to your aesthetic goals, from lip fillers to Botox right here in Franklin. We’d love to help you customize a plan.

4 Surprising Uses
for Botox
We all know how effective Botox is at smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines, but is that all it’s good for? The answer is a resounding, “Heck no!” It can help with so much more than just turning back the clock on our complexions. Here are four surprising uses for Botox: 01
03
CONTROLLING PORES
Yes, even something as small as the pores on your face can be helped by Botox! The way it works is that, by injecting it at the superficial layer of the skin, it slows down sebum production (the oily substance produced by skin), which helps reduce the appearance of large pores. Less oil AND smaller looking pores? Sign us up!
PREVENTING TEETH CLENCHING AND GRINDING
Most of us have been there – finding ourselves clenching our teeth in stress, possibly at nighttime when we’re sleeping and can’t make ourselves stop. Excessive teeth clenching can lead to a misaligned bite, tension headaches and more. Injecting Botox into the masseter muscle – which runs along the jawline – weakens it, helping ease the pain of clenched teeth and TMJ. You should notice relief about a week after treatment. 02
04
PR E V ENTING E XCE SSI V E S W E ATING
SLIMMING THE JAWLINE
This one is especially important for summertime. Excessive sweating can be a huge nuisance – not to mention it can be pretty embarrassing. Forget the over-the-counter deodorants and other methods – similar to how Botox can help reduce oily skin on your face, injecting it into the sweat glands in your armpits can majorly help stop sweat production. In fact, it can help reduce it by as much as 87%. (Don’t worry: It won’t hinder the body’s natural cooling-off method, so it’s perfectly safe.)
It sounds a little crazy, right? Botox as a way to slim down your appearance? But it’s true! If you have a square jawline and would like to slim it down, Botox could be the way to go. The masseter muscle can get thicker over time, from teeth grinding or chewing gum and harder foods, which could lead to a square jawline. By injecting Botox into the muscle, it weakens it and slims it down, creating a more symmetrical profile. It may take a bit to see a major difference (about six weeks or more), but the results can last up to a year and a half!
All this to say, there’s more to Botox than you might’ve thought! Plus, we’re the best place to give it a try: Haley is truly an expert in her field, having trained thousands of others in the fine art of injectables. You’re in the perfect hands for such treatments. She’ll help you decide the best course of action and knows just the right amount to use, whether it’s for those small areas on your face or working to contour your jawline.

Who doesn’t have a friend that seems to have it all together? Their life appears to operate with minimal stress and problems. They seldom show signs of frustration with the mundane aspects of existence. Are they somehow luckier? Are they blessed with an extra dose of positivity? The reasons could be numerous, but it is likely that they are living a life in line with their values. Content people, consciously, or not, are living a life that aligns with what matters most to them. If life feels consistently stressful, disconnected or unhappy, we may not be living a life that reflects who we really are. As Freya Stark, the explorer and travel writer said, “There can be no happiness if the things we believe in are different from the things we do.” When we mention values, most of us think of common, moral values like honesty, integrity or loyalty, but there is a much larger list of values that define our internal psyche. A former client was convinced that she needed to find other employment. She believed in what the organization stood for and liked her co-workers, but always felt drained at the end of the day. Highest on her list of values was calm, serenity and order. Her work environment was loud, frantic and dis-

orderly. Once she found ways to change her work setting to sync with her values, she began to enjoy the office again and decided against leaving. Determining our values can be helpful for any decision we are facing: what job to take, how to spend our free time, where to vacation, etc. They are the blueprints that give our world structure and ensure that we are living a life that is meaningful. If we don’t know what is right or wrong, good or bad for us as individuals, we flounder. Not having a clear vision of what we value leaves us susceptible to making impulsive choices. CONNIE HALEY

Defining values can be as easy as a “value list” Google search. Select the top five words that resonate with you the most and compare your life accordingly. Thinking of how you want to be remembered at the end of your life can bring clarity. Recalling moments that you felt the happiest or proud of yourself are also useful tools. Christopher D. Connors has a great book, The Value of You: The Guide to Living Boldly and Joyfully Through the Power of Core Values. Taking the time to evaluate our values will create a more purposeful and less reactionary existence. The effort will pave the way for a life that feels happy, fulfilling and reflective of how we want to show up in the world–a life we love!

Textured & Fabulous Long before The Kardashians and MTV Cribs let us peek into luxury living, there was a little show called “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” hosted by that ever-so-cheeky Brit, Robin Leach. I remember watching as a kid, enraptured by the glamorous pools, cars and homes. Following the decadent 80s, our ideas of luxury have shifted, and no longer does it necessarily mean splashy brand names and high price tags. As we move into fall and winter, I propose we look at luxury though the experience of texture and fabric. My absolute favorite thing about the season is the variety of textures we can layer together to create rich and opulent outfits. Velvet and silk, cashmere and satin, leather and faux fur, and don’t even get me started about the possibility of sparkle and shine! By layering these sumptuous fabrics and textures in simple ways, you too can create the most luxurious of looks.
Leather
Velvet
Leather adds depth and interest to just about any look and is incredibly versatile. The right jacket over a T-shirt or cocktail dress screams chic! When trying it on, make sure the fit is snug (not tight) as natural leather will slightly stretch and mold to your body as you wear it. Lux it up by layering it over a cashmere tee or sequin tank.
Even the word itself sounds rich and buttery! The gorgeous luster of velvet used to be reserved primarily for holidays and special occasions, but now you can find practical applications of it throughout the season. I’m particularly excited about the idea of a tailored, velvet blazer. Keep an eye out for silk velvets, which are your highest quality and will have the best drape and richest color. Lux it up by layering it with a silk cami, coated jeans, and statement jewelry.
Sparkle My personal favorite texture for the cooler seasons (and any other time I can get away with it!) is sparkle and shine. Fashion is going super glam this fall with the return of lamé fabrics, rhinestone embellishments and metallic knits. Go glam with a gold blouse or lurex sweater, or if that feels too overwhelming, there are lots of lovely dress and blouse offerings with just a hint of metallic thread flashing through the weave. The key to wearing this trend with ease is to play down the shimmer by paring it back to something unexpected and casual like distressed jeans or a utility jacket. Statement jewelry is always a way to elevate any look. Larger than life earrings have been the

jewelry darling for the past several seasons, but I’m here to tell you the statement necklace is on its way back! Throw one on with a cashmere sweater or that aforementioned T-shirt and leather jacket. Now that you’ve got your texture tips for cooler weather, who’s ready to meet me for those champagne wishes and caviar dreams? I can think of nothing better when you are making an entrance to a party or trying to look put together and rested when you are anything but, than a glowing, perfect complexion. I reach for Cle De Peau Radiant Cream Foundation ($128) and apply with a Trish McEvoy #84 Complexion Enhancer Brush ($46). After applying the foundation, use the Tom Ford Bronzer Brush 05 to apply Tom Ford Skin Illuminating Powder Duo in Moodlight. At this point, you can use as little or as much makeup as you want. Smoky eyes and pale lips or clean classic eyes and a bold lip. I do suggest splurging on a new lipstick or two. My absolute favorite lipstick on the planet is Tom Ford Lip Color ($55). In the nude category, choose Paper Doll for a pale pink or Spiced Honey for a peachy pink. I like to line with Dior Lip liner in Brown Fig #593 ($31). For a bold lip, try Cherry Lush for a vibrant juicy pink-red, Original Sin for a beautiful blood-red or Dangerous Beauty if you want a little more plum. There are bright oranges, magentas, deep dark colors to choose from as well. The shades I listed are some of my personal favorites.

Let me count the ways I love fragrance. The history and quality from the House of Creed is unparalleled. In general, they smell like nothing else you can find in the fragrance dept. My two current favorites are Royal Princess Oud ($295445) and Aventus For Her ($270-$1270). Side note, my husband also loves the Royal Princess Oud. It smells amazing on him. Do not be afraid to be adventurous when it comes to fragrance. Women enjoy men’s and men enjoy women’s. The lines are super blurry these days. If you like it and it works with your chemistry, go for it! Another way to enjoy fragrance is through home fragrance/ candles. Le Labo candles ($75) not only smell amazing, but we personalize the labels! Makes for great gift giving or obviously self-giving.
Bath & Body Along with that gorgeous face, a smooth and supple body is a must for any skin baring outfits. My all time scrub hero is Sisley Energizing Foaming Exfoliant ($132). It scrubs, it foams, it smells amazing and best of all, it rinses clean. Follow your scrub with Kiehl’s Creme De Corp body lotion ($11-$78). This lotion is beloved by my entire family. I sometimes mix my own oils or other scented lotions with it so I am ensured the high level of softness and skin loving benefits. Q&A WITH ASHLEY REALE OF LOVE E VERY WHERE
Chances are you’re finding your holiday spirit and getting into the groove of your seasonal to-dos. In this annual celebration of giving, one company hopes to inspire you to slow down for a moment and share the gift of kindness with a stranger. We sat down with Love Everywhere Founder and Designer Ashley Reale to learn more about this unique initiative to sprinkle kindness like confetti all over the world in the simplest of ways. WHAT IS LOVE EVERYWHERE AND HOW DID IT START?
Love Everywhere exists to cultivate intentional acts of kindness so that people can see love where they did not before. We accomplish this through notes of encouragement that are written by the amazing people in our community and hidden in plain sight globally. When I began this project, I was simply looking for ways to create more love within my own community and let others know they have something to give and are full of potential. Today, over 26,000 of our signature cards have traveled as far away as the Eiffel Tower to the Taj Mahal, to right here in Nashville. On our website, we offer positive and affirming products that we pair with blank packs of our cards so that anyone can join our mission and #shareloveeverywhere they go. WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST SURPRISING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE
FE ATUR E S
Glad Tidings of Great Cheer WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE QUOTES AND PHRASES TO WRITE ON ENCOURAGEMENT CARDS?
My go-to encouragements that hold meaning for me are: “Don’t set yourself on fire to keep other people warm,” “You are on purpose” and “Love is your legacy.” DO YOU EVER HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE FOUND ONE OF YOUR NOTES?
Multiple times a week we receive emails from people from cities all over the world who have shared how discovering one of our notes has brightened their day. It’s always like Christmas morning when we get this feedback! HOW CAN PEOPLE CONNECT AND GET INVOLVED WITH LOVE EVERYWHERE?
We always welcome everyone to join us in our mission to make the world a kinder place. While we absolutely love it when people use our cards to pay it forward with kindness, we want to make sharing love as simple and practical as grabbing a blank sheet of paper you already have nearby right now and writing your own nice note for a stranger to find. These tiny notes can really make a huge difference in the world, especially during the holidays, when people may be feeling a little lonely or forgotten. You can also learn more about us on our website www.shareloveeverywhere.com and follow us on Instagram @shareloveeverywhere for all the good vibes.
LAUNCHING LOVE EVERYWHERE?
This year we had the awesome opportunity to work on a brand collaboration with Reebok to add over 200,000 of our signature Love Everywhere encouragement cards to select Reebok Classics sneaker boxes globally! It was a super fun partnership and allowed us to serve up a little more kindness inspiration to a whole new community of people.

RETINOL AND RETIN-A:
What Are the Differences? Retinol and Retin-A are often used interchangeably, but it’s important to note that they are not the same exact thing. Even though they are both Vitamin A derivatives that become converted into retinoic acid, they work differently. Retinol works much slower than a Retin-A does. Retin-A is a brand name for Tretinoin, an acid form of retinoids that requires a prescription. Tretinoin can be obtained in different strengths (.025% .05% and .1%) that are carried at The Look Facial Aesthetics. Because it is a form of retinoic acid, Retin-A does not need to be broken down by the enzymes in your skin before it can be used. Retin-A products are approximately 10 times stronger than the average retinol cream you get over the counter. This strength comes with quick results. Keep in mind there are also side effects. Due to its strength, Retin-A can cause itching, scaling, burning, peeling and extreme redness when you first begin using the medication. Traditionally, Retin-A has only been prescribed for severe acne; however, now it is being prescribed

to patients who wish to reduce lines, improve skin firmness, improve elasticity, and lighten pigment. If your skin is more sensitive or dry, trying a retinol prior to a Retin-A is ideal. If you’re just being introduced to the world of retinoids, it’s probably best to start out with retinol to see how your skin reacts to it in the first place. Retinol is a specific form of Vitamin A that is naturally produced in your body. When it’s applied topically, enzymes in your skin convert retinol into retinaldehyde and then into retinoic acid. Because of the two-step conversion that it has to undergo before the skin can use it, retinol is naturally gentler than Retin-A; this means that while its results are slower, it has fewer side effects. The conversion into retinoic acid can take at least a few weeks, which is why you should use retinol products consistently for a few months before expecting to see results. There is a Vitamin A out there for you depending on your skin concerns, whether it be severe acne, fine lines, or preventative and anti-aging. The main difference is that retinoids are generally more powerful than retinol, but also more likely to cause irritation and sensitivity.

Redness, peeling and a surge of break-outs are common at first. This is actually a good thing. Stay the course as recommended. 08

When using the product, facial waxing may cause irritation. Tweezers are recommended, at least while your skin becomes accustomed to Retin-A.

Ease into Retin-A by using the lowest strength formula and follow your skin care professional’s recommendations for frequency of use. Start out with 2 nights per week for the first two weeks. Then, 3 nights per week, working your way up to nightly. 04
