. W y e l a H From the Editor Have you ever taken a risk? It could be as simple as swiping up to purchase a popular, must-have eye cream or as complex as starting your own business, but, ultimately, a risk is a risk. You trust that something good will come from taking on the risk, or else you wouldn’t move forward. It’s your definition of “good” that allows you to move forward with the risk. Risks are all around; however, it’s how we view the consequence of the risk that makes it worth the adventure. I have taken on major risks in the last four years, namely starting The Look Facial Aesthetics and more personally, starting over again after divorce. Building a brick and mortar business is by far my riskiest venture because of the magnitude of its implications. I had to have faith that it would succeed, but I also had a backup plan in case the risk proved unsuccessful. Knowing I had a fallback allowed me to tread into the waters of entrepreneurship surefooted.
After divorce, starting over again is taking on risk, which can lead to happiness or hurt, two ends of the spectrum. It’s challenging to take on risks that involve the heart because those of us who have been through the process of a failed marriage know very well what hurt feels like, and it’s difficult to fathom another go around possibly. But, after time, the hurt softens, and the possibility of having a healthy, loving relationship is alluring. The risk remains the same, do you dare venture out? Life is a risk. I have come to know that although I have been defeated in life because of taking on risks, I am not defeated. Circumstances don’t define me; it’s my outlook and perspective that does. Underneath all the risks in life, it’s not about the success or the defeat, it’s about the opportunity that came out of the risk, because there is always a learned lesson from the risk.

Nashville’s Thad Cockrell Performs on ‘Tonight Show’ Who knew a broken light switch could change your life?! But that’s exactly what happened to Nashville singer-songwriter Thad Cockrell—well, sort of. On a trip to the hardware store, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon heard a catchy song playing over the speakers that he couldn’t ignore. The song was “Swingin’” by Cockrell, who’s been making music for over two decades. Cockrell had all but given up on making music until Fallon called. It’s the kind of rock’n’roll fairy tale you have to see to believe. Cockrell still feels like he’s living in a dream. In a message to fans, he said: “I just want to you let you know, don't give up. Just keep going."

3 Million Prints (and Climbing) of ‘The Hill We Climb’ Amanda Gorman made history earlier this year as the youngest known inaugural poet in U.S. history, but her poem “The Hill We Climb” amazed the crowd (and the world) with wisdom far beyond her 22 years. Now, demand for her work inspired publishers to publish 1 million copies of each of her three books. Two will include her inaugural poem—The Hill We Climb: An Inaugural Poem for the Country (Viking Books for Young Readers) and The Hill We Climb and Other Poems (Penguin Random House). The third, Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem, is a picture book releasing later this year.

Jude Law Goes Criminal to Play Captain Hook
Singer-Songwriter Halsey Announces Pregnancy
Blue-eyed Brit Jude Law is slated to play the infamous seafarer Captain Hook in Disney’s live-action Peter Pan remake, Peter & Wendy. Comedian Jim Gaffigan is also attached to the film, signing on to play Captain Hook’s ever loyal sidekick, Smee. Newcomer Ever Anderson (the daughter of Milla Jovovich) and Disney Junior star Alexander Molony were cast as Wendy Darling and Peter Pan, respectively. While details on the film’s plot haven’t yet been released, hijinks and shenanigans are sure to abound.
Earlier this year, pop star Halsey announced her pregnancy with a baby bump photo on Instagram. The singer has been open about her fertility struggles, having suffered a miscarriage a few years ago right before going onstage to perform for thousands of fans. Halsey is one of the many women diagnosed with endometriosis (which can also impact fertility), making her pregnancy announcement even more of a celebration. In an interview with the Guardian last year, Halsey said becoming a mother would be “a miracle.”

Chrissy Teigen Opens Up about Sobriety Model, TV star, cookbook author, and overall entrepreneur Chrissy Teigen opened up recently about her journey with sobriety. She replied to a fan’s comment on her Instagram back in December saying she was four weeks sober. On New Year’s Day, she spoke in her Instagram Stories about having decided to stop drinking a month earlier. She and husband John Legend traveled to D.C. for President Joe Biden’s inauguration with their family, and Teigen tweeted: “Just incredible to be here. Sober. I know that’s weird but it’s like...a different world for me. Everything is new and better.”
Princess Di is arguably one of the most famous figures in history, and there have been many incarnations of her life and likeness on screen. Now, Twilight star Kristen Stewart is set to portray the royal in a new biopic, Spencer. The story takes place in December 1991, when Diana is deciding what to do about her deteriorating marriage to Prince Charles. “Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life,” Stewart said. “It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her.”

We Are — Jon Batiste 2020 was a year of division and cracks in society, so the message behind Jon Batiste’s new album, We Are, feels even more important than ever. The jazz musician brought his (appropriately enough) soulful spirit to Disney-Pixar’s Soul (released on Disney+ last December), writing some of the music and even having his hands animated as the main character playing piano. Batiste’s energy infuses his music with the kind of passion and spirit we all need. “This song is a vibe cleanse, Batiste said of the first single, I Need You, "After 2020, this is like a warm hug. Let's bring the vibes back!”

Starts With Us As we reflect on the challenges of the past year, many of us have decided to focus on the one thing we can control: ourselves. With this increased self-awareness comes a plethora of new, sometimes confusing, buzz words. Terms like self-worth, self-care and selfcompassion appear similar, but have fundamental differences that are worth exploring. SELF-WORTH
This is the foundation of a meaningful life. Those of us that have a strong sense of self-worth know that we are worthy just because we exist. There is nothing that can add to or take away from our worthiness. Our value as a human being is not measured by our jobs, accomplishments, what others think, our bank accounts, our appearance, or any other outside factors. According to Positive Psychology, we can improve our feelings of worthiness by paying attention to our negative self-talk, accepting our emotions as neither good or bad, eliminating the word “should” from our vocabulary and reminding ourselves of our unique talents and gifts to the world. Addressing this concept will improve our sense of well being as well as our relationships. SELF-COMPA SSION
Strengthening this mindset allows us to accept ourselves just as we are, without judgment. Most of us can extend this kindness to our children or friends but fall short when we look at our own behavior. Kristin Neff, author of, Self-Compassion, the Proven Power of Being
Kind to Yourself, encourages us to practice the art of forgiveness for our actions. She suggests looking at our mistakes as teachable moments and not as a reason to punish ourselves. She inspires us to use the same self-talk we would use with those we love when they are struggling, acceptance and love. SELF-CARE
For most of us, this is usually the most recognized concept and conjures up images of manicures, massages, or nights out with our friends. These items can be elements of self-care, but the definition has a broader scope. Self-care is any activity we do that deliberately improves our mental, emotional, or physical well-being. This broadens the idea to things like exercise, getting outside, hobbies, or just getting a good night’s sleep. Assess what brings you joy and incorporate it in your life regularly. Audre Lorde, activist, and poet reminds us that, “ Self-care is not selfindulgent, it is self-preservation.” We cannot be there for the people we care about if we do not take care of ourselves first. All of us can improve on one or more of these areas. We can hire professional help, or attempt it ourselves, but taking responsibility for our own healing will enhance our own happiness and open our hearts to be more compassionate to others. The result is a better life for us and collectively for the whole of humanity. It starts with each of us.

e v o L Self We need to give to ourselves in order to best give to others. When I think of self care, I think of calm. When I think of a “me day,” it begins first thing in the morning. Loud alarms automatically sour my mood. Waking up to a Hatch Restore Reading Light, Sound Machine & Sunrise Alarm Clock ($129.95) . The gentle light simulates a sunrise for a more natural waking process. It is way better than a repetitive honking noise. Since a lot of us are working from home now, I like to use home fragrance to enhance my surroundings. Good smells make me happy. I personally love the Le Labo Verveine 32 candle ($75) because it smells like a spa. If you don’t want to necessarily light a f lame, there are diffuser options as well. Nest Rose Noir & Oud Diffuser ($50) is one I have in my home. Vintruvi ($119) is another hassle free option, which is electric, and they offer many oil blends ($13-$26) to suit your mood. When the work day is over, and it’s time to clock out, an ultimate indulgence is a soak in the bath. Two of my favorite soaks are Odacite Mood Cleansing Ayurvedic Bath Soak ($24) and Thisworks Deep Sleep Bath Soak ($33). After your soak, slip into either a Barefoot Dreams Cozychic
Robe ($99) or some Lunda Washable Silk Pajamas ($258). Literally the perfect ending to the day. But don’t stop there...make sure you are laying your head on a Slip Silk Pillowcase ($89-$110) misted with Slip Sleepmist ($19-$32). It’s kind to your hair, your skin and your mind. In conclusion to this wonderful day of self care, two items I always have on my night stand are a sleep mask and lip balm. Slip makes a Pure Silk Sleep Mask ($50) that not only feels luxurious, but it looks luxurious in many colors and patterns. My ride or die lip balm is La Mer The Lip Volumizer ($80). Don’t be confused by the name; it’s not a stingy or sticky gloss. It is the most amazing balm, scented slightly with vanilla-mint, and is so healing. (I also keep one in my handbag and my work bag). It is literally the best. Another affordable option is the Kiehl’s Buttermask Lip Smoothing Treatment ($26). Now lay back, turn on your sleep machine, and sleep tight. Repeat.

Taking a Fashion Risk We’ve all heard the phrase, “the greater the risk, the greater the reward,” but in the grand scheme of things, is fashion actually risky? Although it may not endanger us physically, the idea of taking a fashion risk potentially threatens our sense of identity and self-confidence. It’s easier for us to stay “safe” in our sense of style (or lack thereof) than risk feeling foolish, but taking risks helps us grow. We can use fashion to escape or make new discoveries. We can surprise ourselves and we can certainly have fun!

In these times when our focus is safety and comfort, I encourage you to consider a style risk this year. This doesn’t mean you have to wear a sequin cape to Publix, I’m not asking you to become Lady Gaga! Here are five ways I encourage you to push your style boundaries.

01
Wear a bold trend. I know, I know this goes against a lot of fashion advice you tend to hear from stylists about sticking to classic pieces, but a trend can be a fun escape from your everyday style rut. There are several trends always happening at once so find one that intrigues you and go for it! My spring trend recommendation: a statement sleeve blouse.
02
Try a new color or add a print. Is everything hanging in your closet black? All cream and tan? Why not try a color for a change of pace? Illuminating yellow is one of the pantones of the year and bubblegum pink will be everywhere this spring! If you only wear solids, why not inject a little excitement with a whimsical print?
03
Wear something that FITS. If you’re not body confident it’s easy to cocoon yourself in oversize sweaters, tunics, and wraps, but more fabric volume actually makes you look larger. Find a piece that skims the body and I guarantee your risk will pay off with lots of compliments!
04
Invest in yourself. One of the biggest hesitations I hear from clients is whether or not they should spend money on themselves. While it’s fun to score a cheap thrill from Target, spending more on a piece that’s perfectly tailored and made of quality fabric pays off more in the long run. Risk knowing you are worth it!
05
Let yourself SHINE! Of all the challenges, this might be the hardest. How often do you brush off a compliment or defuse praise? As women, we’ve been trained to dimmish ourselves with modesty in the name of manners, but a simple “thank you” without excuse or explanation is all that’s necessary. Owning our greatness might be the most impressive risk of all.

HUMORIST HEART
You love being called on by your friends in times of crisis, but who do you call on when you face stressful times? Make sure you are cultivating relationships that go both ways, allow others to love you as much as you make them feel loved. Your heart will blossom when you take on the work (and risk!) of letting yourself trust others with your heart enough to build meaningful connections.
Your secret weapon is in how you put everyone at ease with your sense of humor and down-for-anything attitude. You can talk to a stranger for a whole hour and leave the conversation knowing everything about every detail of their life, without having shared a single sentence about who you really are, which is problematic for cultivating deep connections. You are brave enough to lean less on your one-liners and start sharing more of your true self and let your amazing heart shine brightly.

Remember that being on the receiving end of constructive criticism feels better than being shamed into change. Your own personal development can truly flourish when you begin to listen more to your inner voice and seek out support from trusted friends.
You’re the type of person who finds it easy to put yourself out there, make new friends, and share who you are without fear. With the theme of this issue being about expanding our hearts and minds to all that life has to offer, we recognize that approach does not come without risks. In a sense, the less we risk, the more we miss out on. We asked the staff at The Look to tell us about a recent risk they took on a new product or service, and how it worked out. Read below for their finds -- you might find something worth taking a risk on as well!
JORDYN
One of the biggest risks I have taken since I have been working at The Look was switching to an all medical grade skincare regimen that was suited to my skincare needs. I went from using every product under the sun and was not consistent at all with what I was using. I noticed the biggest change in my skin by being very consistent and switching to a ZO regimen along with The Look Koji pads. I now go by the "80/20 rule" for seeing greater change in your skin. 80% is made up of your at home skincare routine and 20% is made up of your in office procedures.

Affirmations of the Heart By Cassie Cichocki
Consider reciting these affirmations to yourself in the morning and evening. Welcome abundance, faith and hope into your life as you believe for the best.
I am wholly loved, just as I am.
When we learn to accept ourselves, flaws and all, we can begin to see that we don’t have to change in order to be worthy of love. When we begin to love ourselves completely, we give others permission to love us, and themselves in the same way.
I am willing to learn, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Being a human means constantly learning. Sometimes we learn the same lessons a few different times, sometimes we are presented with brand new lessons to learn. No matter what, the growth of learning is uncomfortable and sometimes confronting. When we accept this discomfort, we are able to expand.
I offer grace to others freely, and allow myself to receive the same.
Part of being a human is taking missteps. As we learn to find the value in our “missteps,” we are able to understand there is value in the missteps made by others as well. As we learn to forgive others for mishaps and missteps, we teach others to show us the same grace to grow.
I look for abundance in all areas of my life.
What we focus on, we attract. If we are always looking at what we lack in life, we will find more ways to feel empty. If we step back however, and see just how full our lives are, we create opportunities for more abundance to appear.
My purpose may be different than theirs, but it is just as important.
We all, especially as women, play the comparison game. Every time we turn around, it seems like someone else is winning in an area we can’t master. Instead of comparing, what if we rejoiced at our differences? Your purpose may not be the same as hers, but what you are doing in your corner of the world is just as important.

I have faith that what is meant for me is making its way to me.
It’s completely normal to wonder when it will be your turn. For the job, the partner, the child, the big break. Having faith that what is meant to find you is on its way to you, all while you work towards your goals, is the beginning of a beautifully abundant life.
I am willing to take a risk in order to get the reward.
Taking a risk is scary, especially when we don’t know if it will pay off. However, when we firmly believe in ourselves, and choose to invest in our personal growth, there is always a reward. Sometimes that reward looks different than we’d hoped for, but it ends up just as valuable.
Rest is productive.
We live in a world that tells us to go, go, go. Do more, be more, have more, give more. We thrive on being productive. What if we gave ourselves permission to rest? What if we let the understanding that we can be more productive when it’s needed, if we gave into true, restorative rest.
I deserve the best of me.
There is always someone who needs something from us, and in order to give others what they need, we put our own needs on the backburner. However, when we take the time to give ourselves what we need, the better we can be for those who depend on us.
I am supported as I support others.
Being a good friend or partner requires us to provide support, but there are times when we wonder who’s supporting us. Especially in these trying times, it’s easy to feel alone. Let’s remember that the people in our lives want to hold us up as much as we want to be there for them. We deserve every bit of love that we pour into others.

The Look’s
Favorite Light & Laser Procedures for Anti-Aging
The Sciton mJOULE is our secret weapon to all things anti-aging at The Look. We absolutely love facials and encourage the use of high-quality products to maintain results, but some procedures just deliver differently. Can you take your skin to the next level? When it comes to sagging skin as we age, we know there’s an option to nip and tuck our troublesome areas. Many though, don’t want to go that route. That’s where mJOULE comes into play. With laser-based procedures, there’s no nipping, no tucking – just results. Another draw to mJOULE procedures is the lack of major downtime! Seriously, our clients are in and out over lunch and back to work and social life within one to four days, depending on the procedure! Now, you’re probably wondering exactly what the mJOULE does; so let’s dive into that.

SNAPBACK WITH SKINTYTE
The mJOULE provides a BBL Photofacial. BBL stands for broad band light and is a FDA approved treatment that shines a light over your skin to promote cell rejuvenation. After four days, old sun damage and pigmentation will begin to surface on top of the skin, looking like coffee granules, and this is exactly what we want to have happen! BBL enhances every aspect of your day to day skincare routine, minimizing wrinkles and improving skin tone. And better yet, BBL can be done head to toe with the most popular areas being: face, neck/decolletage, arms, hands, thighs and legs!
In addition to the BBL Photofacial, mJOULE also provides SkinTyte, a procedure that helps with the elasticity and firmness of skin. The most common areas for this procedure are face, neck, arms, abdomen, and knees.

SkinTyte is a gradual non-invasive procedure that gives optimum results after six months. SkinTyte deposits heat into the dermis, a deeper level of the skin than the epidermis, which is a much more resilient upper level of the skin. Since our bodies slow down on collagen production as we age, our skin can’t snap back the way it usually does, resulting in sagging. Add in the real life issues of diet, lifestyle, childbirth and UV rays, our skin just can’t keep up with us the way it did when we were younger. SkinTyte deposits the highest temperature that’s safe to deposit into the dermis, leaving you with hydrated, firmer, more youthful skin. TR E ATMENT A R E A S

FIGHT ACNE WITH FOREVER CLEAR
The mJOULE provides one other treatment we just love here at The Look – MOXI. MOXI is one of our favorite procedures for sun damage and retexturing the skin. Sun damage affects all of us, and no matter our age, sun damage will make us appear older than we actually are. From freckles to sunspots to wrinkles, sun damage is no joke. (This is another reason we are diligent about wearing sunscreen Every. Single. Day.)
ForEver Clear is also part of the Laser and Light specialties offered at The Look through the mJOULE platform device from Sciton. It’s non-invasive, requires no downtime, and is gentle enough to use on skin starting in the teenage years.
Not only does MOXI pull out the sun damage we collect over the years, but improves the texture and tone of our skin, and it even resurfaces! The most popular areas people receive MOXI treatments are face and neck. Using gentle pulses of laser energy, MOXI controls damage by pushing these pulses into the skin. Then the body does it’s thing naturally, removing the damaged skin cells that show up as aging and pigmentation!
ForEver Clear works to target the sebaceous glands that cause oil production resulting in acne. By targeting these glands with a noninvasive laser technique, the oil reproduction is lessened, therefore preventing new acne. It also helps to replicate collagen production, leaving skin firmer and plumper with less visible signs of aging. Results will appear within four to six sessions, and may take up to four months for optimal results. Your skin may appear red directly post-procedure but should require no downtime. Skincare may be recommended in conjunction with this treatment.
