BOGHOSSIAN LAUNCHES NEW CREATIONS IN INLAY COLLECTION DISCOVER NEW INLAY ‘REVEAL’
B
oghossian has introduced several new masterpieces in its Inlay Collection that are a true reflection of the Maison’s signature blend of Eastern inspiration and innovative craftsmanship. With the new Inlay ‘Reveal’ line, an enigmatic opaque hardstone delicately conceals a dazzling, faceted coloured gemstone at its heart. The Inlay ‘Reveal’ novelties include pendants and earrings crafted in Morganite and Pink Opal, and Blue Topaz and Turquoise – all of which pay tribute to cultural heritage and underline Boghossian’s dedication to reviving the ancient Art of Inlay. Centuries ago, craftspeople along the Silk Road perfected this technique; in Ancient Egypt and India, marble was inlaid alongside vibrant hardstones and mother-ofpearl to create art and architecture of shimmering splendour. Throughout the Taj Mahal, majestic inlaid artwork depicts the colourful blooms of India.
6
Boghossian’s Inlay collection pays homage to these stylised floral motifs, breathing contemporary life into the traditional skill. Masterfully cut pear-shaped and oval-shaped gemstones represent the petals and leaves of Mughal art. Each piece is the result of meticulous craftsmanship; gemstones are painstakingly carved by skilled lapidarists to fit together seamlessly. Minimal metal allows an abundance of light into each stone, emphasising their breathtaking brilliance. Simple silhouettes allow colour and craftsmanship to take centre stage. The Inlay collection is a dazzling example of Boghossian’s ability to translate ancient inspirations into sophisticated modern-day treasure. JAEGER-LECOULTRE PRESENTS THE MASTER ULTRA THIN MOON IN PINK GOLD WITH A GRADIENT BLUE DIAL ELEVATING THE QUINTESSENTIAL DRESS WATCH TO A NEW LEVEL OF CONTEMPORARY SOPHISTICATION
W
ith its streamlined design, elegant proportions and refined details, the Master Ultra Thin Moon embodies all the elements of the quintessential dress watch. For 2023, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents a new variation of the model in pink gold with a gradient midnight blue dial. The rich contrast between the sunray finish and intense gradient blue of the dial and the warmth of the pink gold case adds dramatic impact to the timeless elegance of the design, while accentuating its subtle beauty and refinement.
9
Perfectly matching the pink gold case, the dial indications enhance the aesthetic harmony of the design and emphasise the beauty of the dial’s gradient colour. The hours are marked by long, tapered triangles, which, like the ‘JL’ logo, are applied; their shape is echoed by the Dauphine hands; and the minutes are indicated by applied golden dots. The moon phase display adds further detail and refinement, its subtly textured finishes contrasting with the shiny blue of the sunray dial and the mirror-polished moon disc. Displaying the date on a ring around the moon-phase aperture maintains aesthetic harmony and creates a visual anchor for the main complication. At 39mm in diameter, the case is well-balanced and perfectly proportioned; combining a mix of polished and brushed surfaces, it maintains a strong visual

presence on the wrist even with its slim profile. An exact match for the blue of the dial, the alligator strap allows easy changes whenever the wearer wishes. Developed and produced entirely in-house, the new-generation Calibre 925 is a high-performing automatic movement that provides 70 hours of power reserve. An 18-carat pink gold oscillating weight and refined decoration and finishing can be enjoyed thanks to the transparent case-back. Perpetuating the Manufacture’s long heritage of pairing sophisticated and high-performing in-house calibres with the aesthetic beauty of timeless case and dial designs, the combination of gradient-blue sunray dial and pink gold case elevates the discreet and classically elegant Master Ultra Thin Moon to a new level of contemporary sophistication.

AUDEMARS PIGUET UNVEILS A NEW ROYAL OAK “JUMBO” EXTRA-THIN MODEL, COMBINING TITANIUM AND BULK METALLIC GLASS
S
wiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet is pleased to unveil a new iteration of its Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin that combines two high-tech materials. Following the launch of the Only Watch unique piece presented in 2021, this new 39 mm model introduces a case and a bracelet that combine titanium and precious metallic glass (or BMG for Bulk Metallic Glass) into the collection for the very first time. This new cutting-edge material has been co-developed by Audemars Piguet with a palladium base – another first – making it particularly shiny and resistant to scratches. Powered by the new Calibre 7121 which was launched in 2022 in the new “Jumbo” references (ref. 16202), this new timepiece is also illuminated by a smoked burgundy dial, giving it a deep, bewitching aesthetic.
“Following the launch of the Only Watch unique piece presented in 2021, this new Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model marks the debut of precious bulk metallic glass into the collection. This first in the watchmaking sector bears witness to the ongoing research into innovative materials conducted by the Manufacture since its creation.” Lucas Raggi Development Director Audemars Piguet 12
13
A LIGHT AND STRONG ALLOY For the first time, the Manufacture is combining titanium with bulk metallic glass (BMG), a material notably used in microelectronics and golf. Discovered in the 1960s, this alloy shares certain characteristics with glass, such as amorphism and hardness, when it is cooled very quickly. While several hundred types of metallic glass exist, Audemars Piguet has chosen to co-develop its own palladium-based metallic glass, giving it high resistance to wear and corrosion as well as enhanced brilliance. This is the first time that a palladium-based metallic glass has appeared in a collection in the watchmaking sector. A dedicated production process has been developed that starts with the material being melted and poured into molds (for the bezel and caseback) to give them the desired pre-shape. The material is then rapidly cooled to retain its intrinsic qualities, including hardness and elasticity. Once it is taken out of the molds, the pieces are machined into their final shape. Due to the rapid cooling process required to obtain the material, the size and thickness of the components cannot be too large and only small quantities can be produced at a time. Used for the bezel, caseback frame and bracelet studs, the bulk metallic glass has been mirror-polished to reveal its high resistance to scratches. This finish, combined with the brilliance of the material, provides a powerful contrast with the titanium case and bracelet links that alternate between the polished and satin-finished decorations that are emblematic of the Manufacture’s timepieces. The caseback also bears the “Pd500” hallmark, as BMG contains over 50% of palladium.
metallic tones of the high-tech case and bracelet materials, giving the watch a mysterious appearance. The dial features luminescent 18-carat pink gold hour-markers and hands, with the polished and applied AP monogram at 6 o’clock. The date appears in pink tones against a dark burgundy background, adding the final touch to the aesthetic balance of the timepiece. CALIBRE 7121: TOWARDS A NEW ERA This new Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model is equipped with the Calibre 7121, introduced in 2022 to replace the Calibre 2121, which has powered the “Jumbo” models since 1972. The unique Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin Only Watch was the last timepiece to be fitted with the Calibre 2121, and the introduction of the Calibre 7121 in 2022 marked the start of a new generation of timepieces in this reference. With a thickness of 3.2 mm, Calibre 7121 has been developed and produced by Audemars Piguet’s engineers and watchmakers to fit into the iconic 8.1 mm case without altering the aesthetics or thickness of the watch. Furthermore, the crown is now equipped with a rapid date corrector. Having taken five years to develop, Calibre 7121 produces more energy than its predecessor thanks to its new construction and larger barrel. This gain enables the mechanism to achieve greater precision over a longer period of time.

The central oscillating weight is mounted on ball bearings and is equipped with two reversers that ensure bidirectional winding. The balance wheel is fitted with weights that are embedded into the thickness to avoid any aerodynamic friction which would slow down the movement. Calibre 7121 is also equipped with a patented date mechanism that is both extremely thin and energy efficient.
The smoked burgundy dial of this new Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model is decorated with a sunburst motif. The vivid burgundy colour also contrasts with the

PARMIGIANI FLEURIER’S RATTRAPANTES: THE ART OF MASTERING TIME In our time of accelerated technological change, mechanical watchmaking offers us a haven, an analogue alternative to digital overload. There are countless methods for measuring time, and although some functions and mechanisms have remained unchanged for decades, today’s era calls for innovation. While watchmaking tends to stick to generic formulas for displaying GMT functions and dive time calculations, there are exceptions that break with convention. Parmigiani Fleurier is the perfect example of this. The Maison has succeeded in redefining its relationship with time with two unprecedented innovations: the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante and the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante. These modern timepieces are not only a response to the speed of our daily life, but offer a new way of perceiving, feeling and above all, mastering time. 16
“At Parmigiani Fleurier, we push the boundaries in innovation. The individual should control time, his time. It’s not time that should control the individual.” — Guido Terreni, CEO Parmigiani Fleurier
TIME TO RESET An invitation to reset our relationship with time, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante and Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante deliver instantaneous and intuitive measurements that capture the rhythm of modern-day life. The beauty of these complications lies in their extreme user-friendliness. The ingenious mechanics behind these deceptively simple-looking watches alter the way countdowns and dual time complications are viewed and activated. In a departure from conventional graduated rotating bezels, an additional gold hand concealed under the minute hand executes the task – a minute countdown on the Minute Rattrapante, and a GMT indication on the GMT Rattrapante – without marring the understated elegance of the Tonda PF codes. “Rattrapante” describes the motion performed by the extra hand when it jumps back to its concealed position, similar to a split-seconds chronograph hand. Parmigiani Fleurier’s Rattrapantes fuse pragmatic, intuitive complications with the luxurious, understated aesthetic that defines the Tonda PF collection. TONDA PF MINUTE RATTRAPANTE: A 2023 WORLD PREMIERE Innovation in terms of complications, paired with simplicity of use: true to the spirit of the brand, Parmigiani Fleurier presented the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante in
March 2023, a world first that followed on from the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante which made waves when it was introduced the previous year. The birth of the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante was guided by the idea of reinterpreting one of the most common watchmaking functions, while helping it evolve to become an absolute innovation. The basic premise: to perform the function usually operated by the graduated bezel on a diver’s watch via the movement itself. The result: user friendliness, excellent legibility and apparent simplicity right the way through to activating the function. While the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante enables a distinction between local and home time in one-hour increments, the new development of the function in the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante serves to display the minutes in five and one-minute increments respectively.
17
The dial features an hour hand and two superimposed minute hands: the rhodium-plated gold minute hand indicates real time and conceals the other 18ct rose gold hand minute hand, which calculates minutes in five or one-minute increments on demand. Pressing a pusher at 8 o’clock makes the rose gold hand jump in 5-minute intervals; the pusher at 10 o’clock moves it by 1-minute intervals. The period of time to be measured will have elapsed when the rhodium-plated hand reaches the position of the 18ct rose gold hand, which is then returned to its superimposed position by pressing the crown-integrated pusher. The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante is graced with pure and essential proportions featuring sophisticated aesthetic codes and finishes. A complication that is intuitive, efficient, and extremely simple to use, in harmony with the philosophy that guides the brand. 18
TONDA PF GMT RATTRAPANTE: A 2022 WORLD PREMIERE One of the most remarkable launches of 2022, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante refreshed the dual time complication with a resolutely innovative mechanism that is true to the purity and minimalism of the Tonda PF collection. The Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante is the perfect instrument for globetrotters juggling time zones. There is nothing superfluous about this sleek, elegant model that seamlessly indicates both local and home time. The iconic timepiece was reimagined in 2023 with the introduction of a full 18ct rose gold version, graced with a Milano Blue dial featuring a refined barleycorn guilloché pattern. The Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante appears unassuming at first glance, with the hours and minutes sweeping

gracefully around the elegant hand-guilloché dial. Yet beneath this traditional face lies a complication powering two superimposed hour hands; one in rhodium-plated gold for local time and the other in 18ct rose gold for home time. The pusher at 8 o’clock advances the rhodium-plated hand for local time in one-hour increments; home time is displayed by the gold hand. When the dual time function is no longer required, the gold pusher integrated in the crown allows the local hour hand to “catch up” (rattraper) like the split-seconds hand of a chronograph and hide beneath the gold home time hand. This original innovation, unique in watchmaking history, relies on a sophisticated and innovative mechanism. Intuitive and simple to use, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante allows for purists to enjoy the luxury of an uncluttered time display, whilst reveling in the incredible quality and care lavished on each and every detail.

Cover Story As the CEO of KAFD, could you share with us the vision behind the King Abdullah Financial District and how it aims to redefine luxury and financial services in Saudi Arabia? KAFD was inspired by King Abdullah’s vision to create a new financial hub for Riyadh. When it was acquired by 2018 by the Public Investment Fund, we were established to develop the district into a 24/7 city catering for businesses, but also residents, visitors, the district workforce and tourists. This has meant that our work has revolved around the transformation of the district into a futuristic, sustainable smart city, seamlessly integrating luxury and exclusive living experiences with business. As Saudi Arabia’s business nerve center and its first vertical city, KAFD serves as an economic powerhouse and provides a world-class infrastructure for businesses. We’re building a thriving, multi-faceted ecosystem for growth that combines resources, talent, and infrastructure and acts as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. As a result, we attract businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors worldwide, like BUPA, Pfizer Saudi, and Alibaba Cloud alongside financial and government institutions, ranging from Saudi Aramco and the PIF, Riyad Bank, SNB and the largest digital payments provider, Saudi Payments, the National Development Fund and many others. We are playing a major role in transforming Saudi Arabia into a global financial center, which aligns seamlessly with the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030.
a new standard for futuristic urban living that brings technology and luxury. For example, we are home to a diverse culinary scene, from the award-winning Il Baretto and NYC-inspired eatery Black Tap to specialty restaurants like CHALMONT, Il Camino, and more recently, the world famous, Mr Chow. Every experience is unique with dining options that feature an abundance of cultures and cuisines and cater to diverse tastes and refined palates. KAFD is known for its innovative architectural designs and world-class amenities. Can you tell us about some of the key features and elements that make the district a truly luxurious destination?
The skyline of the district is characterized by a collection of architecturally striking buildings that blend modernity with Saudi heritage, which makes it stand out for its architectural grandeur that offers a captivating sight to behold. Renowned architectural firms from around the world, including Henning Larsen and Gensler, have contributed their unique designs to our district. Notable among these is the Financial Plaza, defined by its six iconic towers. The PIF Tower, the centerpiece of the Financial Plaza, stands as the tallest skyscraper in Riyadh. Its design was inspired by the crystals found in the wadis of Saudi Arabia while the SOM-designed SEDCO Holding’s offices are inspired by ‘muqarnas,’ a three-dimensional decorative device used in Islamic architecture.
That’s true. King Abdullah Financial District’s luxurious appeal is the encapsulation of its architectural splendor and extravagant lifestyle. We are redefining luxury living and it’s easy to say how.
The architecture and planning of the entire district take into consideration the surrounding climate and environment with sun control and shading devices improving daylighting within the towers,

minimising glare, and controlling the amount of sunlight and heat gain admitted. The central Wadi is an axample of how the wind and heat conditions were optimized for district users. Designed to resemble the region’s deserts valleys, the Wadi is an open public space planned as a pedestrian zone incorporating pop-up activations and unique retail offerings. Lying 5.5 meters below street level, the temperature throughout the way is 8-10 degrees lower than the temperature in central Riyadh. The naturally cool airflow attracts passersby, visitors and event participants. Beyond that, KAFD offers a rich cultural and dazzling lifestyle experience. Today, KAFD houses stunning residential towers, cutting-edge office spaces, exclusive retail boutiques, sophisticated fine dining, as well as entertainment, sporting, and wellness venues, giving our local and international residents and visitors access to a world-class, cosmopolitan lifestyle. In a first for the Middle East, KAFD plans to open The Kimpton Hotel in 2024, and plans are underway for more 5-star offerings including an Equinox Hotel, merging healthy living with luxury for visitors. 24
In recent years, sustainability and environmental consciousness have become increasingly important. How does KAFD incorporate sustainable practices and promote eco-friendly initiatives within the district?
how our buildings and the entire masterplan were designed to feature energy-efficient systems, use water responsibly, and incorporate a range of other environmentally-friendly design elements. To give you some examples:
In the last year alone, we planted approximately 400 palm trees, over 130,000 shrubs, and more than 220,000 ground-cover plants spanning the district. In parallel, our parks are covered by over 4,000 sqm of lawns.
Our buildings are designed to be 20-30% more water-efficient than conventional structures. We conduct regular water consumption audits and strive to reduce demand per capita by 20%. Additionally, our building rooftops have a high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI), reflecting more solar heat and making our structures 10-15% more energy-efficient than conventional buildings. We use smart systems to manage our resources efficiently. This includes systems for intelligent lighting, waste management, and more to reduce our environmental footprint and make the district more comfortable and convenient for its inhabitants.
Our buildings are designed with sustainability in mind. Over 40 buildings in the district have achieved Silver and Gold LEED certifications. At the same time, KAFD is the world’s largest Platinum LEED-certified mixed-use business district. These awards recognize
KAFD encourages the use of public transportation and other eco-friendly commuting options. We have an integrated transportation network that includes public transit connections, pedestrian-friendly pathways, cycling routes, and smart parking. It’s about
Indeed, sustainability is in the DNA of KAFD. We are committed to promoting a healthy urban environment. That’s why we’ve integrated a range of green spaces within the district. These spaces not only provide areas for relaxation and recreation but also contribute to the overall air quality and biodiversity of the area.
Cover Story creating a balanced lifestyle where everything you need is just a short walk away, and reachable within a climate-controlled environment. Most of all, we believe that everyone has a role to play in sustainability. That’s why we run programs and initiatives to educate our residents, workers, and visitors about the importance of eco-friendly practices and how they can contribute. Luxury often goes hand in hand with exclusivity. How does KAFD strike a balance between catering to a select clientele while also being accessible to a wider audience? You’re absolutely right, luxury often implies exclusivity, but at KAFD we see things a little differently. We’re all about creating a world-class business district that appeals to a select clientele, while not losing sight of the bigger picture – making
our district a place that’s welcoming and accessible to everyone. One of the ways we achieve this is through our design philosophy. When you take a walk around KAFD, you’ll notice a mix of spaces. Sure, there are the luxury amenities that cater to those who prefer a more exclusive environment. But you’ll also find parks, plazas, and cultural venues that are open to all, creating a sense of community. We love engaging with our community, too. KAFD comes alive with events that are open to all – cultural exhibitions, food festivals, sports events, you name it. These events create a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere that welcomes everyone. Last year we hosted the largest light art festival in the world here at KAFD, across the Wadi and many of our landmarks, winning a Guinness World Record. This was open to the public, and was an immensely popular attraction to Riyadh residents.
So, while luxury and exclusivity do have a place in KAFD, it’s not the whole story. For us, luxury means offering a high-quality, unique experience that everyone can appreciate. It’s this balance that makes KAFD more than just a financial district – it’s a place for everyone. The pandemic has brought significant changes to the way we work and interact. How has KAFD adapted to these changes and what measures have been taken to ensure a safe and secure environment for both clients and employees? In the wake of the pandemic, we at KAFD have had to swiftly adjust our strategies and operations. Our top priority has always been, and continues to be, the health and safety of our community. The physical adaptations we’ve made are significant. We’ve reassessed our office spaces, ensuring they adhere to distancing guidelines without compromising on efficiency or comfort. We’ve also launched rigorous deep-cleaning protocols across all our facilities. We’ve recognized the shift towards remote work and have risen to the occasion. By enhancing our digital infrastructure, we’ve facilitated flexible work options without compromising productivity. This not only caters to the new normal but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability by reducing traffic and carbon emissions. Our responsibility doesn’t stop at physical health. We’ve launched initiatives to support the mental well-being of our community members. The pandemic has been a stressful time for everyone, and we believe in fostering an environment that supports not just professional growth, but personal health and wellness too. 25
We have also invested heavily in ensuring business robustness and resilience across the district’s operations for our tenants, community security and technology. This ensures that we are able to manage emergency situations, respond to, and recover from, threats and unforeseen incidents/events while minimizing disruptions to operations. Our priority will always be for the safety and wellbeing of all our tenants, residents, and visitors alike. KAFD is positioned as a prominent global financial center. Could you highlight some of the international collaborations and partnerships that KAFD has established to attract investors and businesses from around the world? Our mission is to make Riyadh a world-class hub for business and finance. A central part of this mission is establishing robust collaborations and partnerships that span across the globe. We’re actively engaging with global operators and
developers to broaden our range of services and offerings, ultimately delivering world-class facilities and experiences right here in Riyadh. KAFD already boasts a strategic global location in the heart of Riyadh, a city with excellent internal and international connectivity with access to over 40 of the fastest-growing markets within 4 hours, over 40% of the world’s GDP within 6 hours, and over half of the world’s population within 7 hours. With that, KAFD captures the interest of top-tier international businesses and organizations that are looking to have an impactful presence in the region. But besides giving their business an advantage, establishing their headquarters, regional offices, and business operations in Riyadh, KAFD is giving them a place they can call home, making KAFD an iconic business and lifestyle destination and the ideal space to live, work, and play. Within these parameters, KAFD is partnering with leading global operators and innovative developers
to expand the district’s services and venues to empower our vision to be the region’s most sought-after business and lifestyle hub. We have been joining forces with private investors, attracting substantial investments and driving economic growth. Our collaborations with experts in sustainable architecture, smart city technologies, and hospitality management have significantly enhanced the quality of our offerings. Partnerships are the cornerstone of all successful business. Earlier this year, we signed an agreement with Japanese conglomerate, Sumitomo, allowing us to use their eco-friendly coating solutions. These solutions will keep temperatures down that would otherwise be quite high, for the safety and improved living and working conditions for tenants, employees and residents. Luxury is not just about material possessions; it is also about experiences. What unique experiences and events does KAFD offer to its visitors that set it apart from other financial districts? Definitely, it’s all about the experiences that make you feel special and that stay with you long after they’re over. Here at KAFD, that’s precisely what we’re aiming to provide. Our architectural marvels create memories that are impossible to forget, offering unforgettable views that make KAFD an experience to relish and remember forever. We’ve got 95 stunning buildings, each a reflection of global design excellence. They’ve been designed by 25 different leading architectural firms, including Foster + Partners. But there’s more than just architecture. We offer a lifestyle. Our retail and dining spaces cover over 330,000 sqm and provide an eclectic

Cover Story mix of experiences - from high-end boutiques to diverse culinary delights. It’s not just about grabbing a quick meal; it’s about immersing yourself in an unforgettable gastronomic journey. This month we are hosting the country’s first fashion week – Riyadh Fashion Week, catering to local and international designers and celebrities. We’ve also integrated over 67,000 sqm of parks and public spaces into KAFD. These spaces provide a place for relaxation, social interactions, and even outdoor fitness activities amidst the urban landscape. Our events calendar is buzzing with activities, from art exhibitions and musical performances to business summits and tech expos. There’s always something happening here at KAFD. But the most important thing that sets us apart from other business districts is the community offering for our tenants with key flagship events that address their needs and support growth. Our exclusive calendar includes a Leadership Conference, the KAFD Dialogue series which are a private quarterly dinner series designed to drive forward global discussions on the critical challenges we face, and a Spotlight series - which serve as a platform to showcase partnerships, recent and upcoming developments, and thought leadership. As a leader, mentorship and empowering others are often important aspects. Have there been any individuals who have had a significant impact on your career journey? If so, what valuable lessons did you learn from them? As the CEO of KAFD, I’ve had the privilege of learning from many remarkable individuals throughout my career. While it’s hard to single
out just a few, there are some key principles that have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership and strategy. Leading by example has inspired me to be a hands-on leader, which ultimately fosters trust within our team and empowers confident, informed strategic decisions. Another vital lesson has been the power of continuous learning and adaptation. This has influenced KAFD’s direction, encouraging us to innovate and seek growth opportunities. We are unafraid of change, and that boldness is what propels us forward in an ever-shifting econom-
ic landscape. And then there’s the power of diversity and inclusion, which has shaped KAFD’s culture. Balancing personal and professional life can be challenging, especially in a demanding role like yours. How do you manage to maintain a healthy work-life balance? You know, when you think about work-life balance, it’s not just about personal well-being, it’s also a reflection of the organization you’re a part of. FORMULA 1® INTENSIFIES DEVELOPMENT OF ASTON MARTIN VALHALLA SUPERCAR 36
A
ston Martin Valhalla, the ultra-luxury brand’s first series production mid-engine supercar, is reaping the benefits of the world’s fastest laboratory, Formula 1®. Technological development in F1® is accelerated by the need for speed, reliability and performance. Race proven methodologies, expertise and technologies used by the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One® team (AMF1) are being adopted by Aston Martin to intensify the development of future models. Marco Mattiacci, Global Chief Brand and Commercial Officer of Aston Martin said: “Aston Martin’s vision is to build a range of exceptional, class-leading driver focused cars, crucial in the expansion of our core product line-up. As such our first series production mid-engine supercar will be transformational for this ultra-luxury
performance brand as well as for the mid-engine segment. Valhalla represents Aston Martin’s first joint development integration between our road car engineers and Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One® team’s F1® engineering capabilities through Aston Martin Performance Technologies and demonstrates Aston Martin’s breadth of capabilities with the technical support and expertise of Formula 1®.” The technical crossover between Aston Martin and its eponymous Formula 1® team, which currently sits in fourth place in the FIA Formula One World Constructors’ ChampionshipTM, is facilitated by the consulting arm of the team, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT). AMPT is directly assisting Aston Martin’s performance engineering team in three key areas of development - dynamics, aerodynamics and materials. 37
Claudio Santoni, Aston Martin Performance Technologies Engineering Director, said: “It is a great advantage for a car manufacturer to have access to the unique skills and knowledge of a Formula 1® team. F1® engineers are constantly pushing the boundaries in the pursuit of performance and have developed rapid problem-solving tools. With this knowledge ‘in house’ we can seamlessly bring F1® expertise to road car development.” Driving Dynamics
38
The cockpit ergonomics of Valhalla has also benefited by taking direct cues from Formula 1®, in that the driving position has been optimised with support from AMPT to provide the driver with race car level control in order to maximise the pleasure of driving. The driver’s heels are raised by a false floor, which also contains electronic modules, and the unique carbon fibre bucket seat can be reclined to a greater angle to achieve a seating position more closely aligned to the AMR23 race car, whilst still offering road car comfort. This aids in keeping a low roofline and ensures the driver feels truly connected to the car.
Aston Martin Valhalla is a truly driver-focused mid-engine supercar and the vehicle dynamics group in close conjunction with AMPT is working full throttle to deliver the pinpoint dynamics that will provide unprecedented driver engagement. F1® design relies heavily on simulation tools and the methods used to ensure that every moment spent in the simulator brings progress has been put in place for Valhalla. In fact, 90% of the dynamic characteristics and vehicle set-up has been completed in the simulator, with the final development phase completed in the real world, on the road and track.
The joint expertise of both AMPT and Aston Martin’s aerodynamicists in both road cars and Formula 1® provides the brand with an opportunity to create addictive road cars, with the perfect blend of luxury and performance. A quick look at the underbody of the AMR23 and the underbody of Valhalla, where most of its downforce is generated, illustrates how much F1® technology has gone into the new supercar.
Valuable input from the AMF1 drivers add a new intensity to the calibration of Valhalla. The elite level skills and knowledge of drivers like Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso can take vehicle dynamics to a new level as they continue to push the car to the extreme edge of its performance capabilities.
The aerodynamic approach to Valhalla starts in a similar way to an F1® car, by using all elements of the body shape to generate downforce and minimise drag. However, Valhalla is not restricted by F1® regulations so it can benefit from fully active aerodynamic systems at both the front and rear of the car which will generate over 600kg
Aerodynamics
On the Road
of downforce at 240km/h. This enables Valhalla to constantly adapt front and rear downforce to maximise grip, balance and consistency, or reduce drag depending on the situation and the driving mode selected. This enables drivers to extract the very best from Valhalla’s chassis and tyres, across the full performance range of the car. Like the AMR23 race car, Valhalla features-multi element wings front and rear, though the front wing is largely hidden from view. The front wing can lie flat in a DRS position to reduce drag or can be angled up to generate huge downforce directly ahead of the front wheels. Behind the front splitter the under-floor surface is concave, creating a low-pressure area that generates downforce. Again, this feature can be controlled as part of the full vehicle active control algorithms on the car. The multi element rear wing lies flat to create the beautiful clean lines of the car, whilst generating a baseline level of downforce with minimal drag. However, in track mode the wing is raised high into the airflow to maximise its effectiveness. The car then actively manages the angle of attack of the wing to continually balance between maximum downforce and DRS, to maximise performance. Inspired by F1® vortex generators and aero features, small slotted louvers on the sill, just ahead of the rear wheel, act as mini diffusers to pull airflow out and upwards from under the car, increasing
downforce. A roof-mounted snorkel feeds both the engine intake, as it does in F1®, but also serves to feed cooling ducts for turbo intercoolers and to cool the engine’s Hot-V turbo configuration. The vast knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing in F1® together with AMPT has been of huge benefit to the road car engineers. The same aerodynamic tooling techniques used to create the AMR23 race car have been used to develop the aerodynamics for Valhalla. The Valhalla engineering team working directly with AMPT utilised the same CFD software as the AMF1 team, including learnings on model set-up. As in Formula 1®, Valhalla has used a scale model and moving road wind tunnel to develop the car, studying the same processes including ride height sensitivity, the effects of yaw, roll and pitch, steering and so on. Materials AMPT and the AMF1 team have been building cars from carbon fibre for many years so there is very little they don’t understand about materials, although the idea of building 999 carbon fibre monocoques will be a novelty to a team used to building just a handful of cars per season. The AMPT carbon technologies team works on developing ideas that evolved in F1® and applying the same approach to Valhalla. This has been of great 39
On the Road
benefit when it comes to areas such as the simulation of stiffness and crash worthiness testing where great gains can be made by identifying any vulnerabilities before the destructive process of crash testing begins. The structure at the heart of Valhalla is crafted to maximise stiffness with minimal weight, guaranteeing maximum control with millimetric precision. Designed and engineered by AMPT, which applies their highly specialised F1® expertise and technical capabilities beyond the pinnacle of motorsport, Valhalla’s structure is the product of cutting-edge composite technology. A complex and exquisite blend of carbon fibre materials, Valhalla’s carbon structure has been created using a novel and proprietary technology developed for Aston Martin. The upper and lower sections of the structure are moulded from carbon fibre using a combination of Resin-Transfer-Moulding 40
process (RTM) and F1® derived autoclave technology. The result is a singular, immensely stiff, strong and light passenger cell which delivers best-inclass dynamic structural attributes and outstanding safety, without compromising driver and passenger ergonomics. Valhalla is at the forefront of Aston Martin’s transition from internal combustion to hybrid to full electrification. Much has been learned within the engine management group to optimise performance and maximise efficiencies of Valhalla’s bespoke twin-turbo flat-plane V8 engine, which is the most advanced, responsive and highest-performing V8 engine ever fitted to an Aston Martin and, when mated with three e-motors, creates a 1,012 PS hybrid all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. Twin electric motors on the front axle enables Valhalla to not only feature four-wheel drive, but also allow the engineers full independent control
of the torque applied at the each of the front wheels – a technique known as torque vectoring. Torque Vectoring enables a more positive steering response at turn-in, stronger grip through the corner and improved traction on corner exit. Enhancing the driving experience and performance through all phases of the corner. The front e-motors also provide the reverse function, enabling a weight saving on the rear transmission. A third e-motor is integrated into the transmission, providing additional power to the rear wheels as well as acting as the starter/generator for the ICE engine. Carlo Della Casa, Aston Martin Product Development Director said: “The knowledge and experience of the AMF1 team personnel at Aston Martin Performance Technologies combined with the skills and know how of our road car development teams has enabled us to bring direct F1® learnings to sportscar development. Our target
for Valhalla is to produce a supercar that will set best-in-class standards for performance, dynamics and driving pleasure. Valhalla will use active technologies to reduce the gap between the “Gentlemen driver” and the professional one on track. Having open access to the knowledge within the AMF1® team has been a huge advantage for us as we develop this incredible car.” The first running prototype will take to the road later this year, with Valhalla set to enter production in 2024. 41

ENTREPRENEUR AND LIFESTYLE INFLUENCER BAYAN LINJAWI INTERVIEW
Can you tell us about your journey as an entrepreneur and how you ventured into the world of luxury lifestyle? Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, I got to observe and learn all the basic things about entrepreneurship. I first learned my strengths and weaknesses when I was in school, I noticed that I’m a good public speaker and I worked hard on improving my skills. 9 years ago, when I first graduated from the University, my goal was to become a TV presenter/ host which drove me to seek opportunities in that field and eventually led me to my career in social media. In the beginning it was mostly a platform for me to express myself and practice my long-awaited dream job but then with time and after I’ve had my first paid ad, I realized that this is perhaps not just a stepping stone. Can you tell us more about your online retail business, 31Store? What inspired you to start it, and what kind of products do you offer to your customers? 31store is an online concept store. I started this business during lockdown when I saw the potential in the online business sector. I got the idea when I was helping out homegrown businesses accelerate by offering them advertisement. I thought to myself, how can I combine all these businesses under one umbrella. And this is how 31store started. As I was working with these businesses and the realizing the impact my advertisement had on their sales, word of mouth started to spread on how effective my ads were. Hence, more home small businesses contacted me. I thought of 31store as a win win situation. It was planned to be an actual store at first but with the pandemic I decided to shift my business to an online store. In regards to products, I offered trendy outfits, customized belts and handbags and cosmetics. also, I offer blogs on how to travel light, pick the right outfit etc. 51

With 650,000 subscribers on Snapchat, your content clearly resonates with a wide audience. What do you believe sets your content apart and has contributed to your social media success? I’m truly grateful for all my followers and their continuous support and encouragement for me throughout my journey in the social media. In terms of my content, I mostly focus on lifestyle, daily stuff. I stay truthful to my own self and to others, I try to be humble, credible and honest and I believe that these are rare qualities nowadays. You’re originally from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Can you share how your cultural background and experiences in Saudi Arabia have influenced your approach to lifestyle and motherhood content? We are the summation of all our experiences I guess. Everything that I was raised on in my beautiful city, all the kindness and caring for one another has made a lasting influence on me, makes me feel proud which I try to portray in my content, from supporting local businesses and promoting Saudi brands, celebrating national holidays, visiting the cultural areas in Saudi, and attending events. Our culture is also present in our food, in our 52
habits and life tricks that we learn from generation to generation which I always like to share in my content. Motherhood is a significant part of your content. How do you balance the demands of being a mother with your career as an entrepreneur and influencer? What advice do you have for other working mothers? My Family is the most important thing in my life. Having said that, it is important to have a certain balance. I believe in each stage in life perhaps your focus shifts but not entirely to one thing especially if it’s too small and needs nurturing and care until it is grown and can stand on its own whether it was a baby or a business. I guess my advice would be that Its good to have balance and seek help when you need it. Any new mother might struggle at first but I would tell her don’t underestimate yourself, we can multitask and stay focused and excel in all fields. And every now and then, its ok to do mistakes, that is how we learn.
Could you share a few key principles or values that guide both your personal and professional life, which you believe have contributed to your success? Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that your audience can look forward to in the near future? My principle is to stay truthful, caring, and live the now, ask questions and learn from others experiences, be socially smart. My main focus currently is on my family as I’m expecting another baby. The family-run Hinduja Group, at the helm of the redevelopment, has been passionately committed to the revival of its heritage features. With the help of hundreds of artisans, historic interior elements have been restored, including delicate hand-laid mosaic floors, oak panelling, glittering chandeliers, and a magnificent marble staircase. The iconic centrepiece of this landmark transformation is Raffles London at The OWO,

MOLTON BROWN LAUNCHES NEWEST COLLECTION: WILD MINT & LAVANDIN A FRESH AROMATIQUE COLLECTION WHERE THE WILD MEETS THE REFINED
C
reated by Senior Perfumer Nathalie Koobus, British fragrance-makers newest collection Wild Mint & Lavandin is a modern take on a classic fougère. Instantly stimulating yet soothing, it imagines an exploration of a cool forest. The rush of a crystal-clear stream and shady banks of shrubs, stalks and bushes. The Eau de Toilette rushes in with a reviving hit of wild mint and basil while distinctive lavandin – a more powerful, greener variety of lavender – brings the unique Molton Brown twist. Unexpected and contemporary, sensuous orris root intrigues against the grounding influence of rich sandalwood and tonka bean. For the Eau de Parfum, Nathalie picked creamy nutmeg as the signature note. A warm balance to tonic mint, it leaves a dry down that’s addictive, takes hold and leaves a naturally sophisticated impression.
82
Nature First Molton Brown uses the highest quality ingredients while treading more lightly on the planet – this means you can be kinder to the earth without compromising the luxury you love. The brand sustainably sources their lavandin oil from Provence, France, where a collective of local farmers use innovative technology to
harvest the plant in a way that benefits long-term land biodiversity, reduces water usage and improves the welfare of the community. And like all their products, this collection is cruelty free and created in their own carbon neutral factory in Hertfordshire. To help lower waste, almost all Molton Brown’s bottles are made from 50% recycled plastic.
“I wanted to capture the forest walks in my home of Provence, where nature’s invigorating air of verdant herbaceous shrubs is edged by purple fields of lavandin.” Nathalie Koobus, Senior Perfumer

3 REASONS TO START DRINKING GOLD COLLAGEN EVERYDAY The ultimate beauty hack to achieving flawless beauty
C
ollagen is a vital protein found in our bodies that helps maintain the elasticity and firmness of our skin. Therefore, it is crucial to safeguard the collagen in your skin from a young age. The award-winning, liquid collagen supplement, Gold Collagen offers one of the easiest ways to improve skin health and achieve glowing and youthful skin. Supports Gut Health Your gut plays a significant role in skin health and a healthy gut can lead to a healthier skin. A key feature that sets Gold Collagen apart from others in the market is its availability in liquid form, which is most easily absorbed by the body, ensuring maximum benefits. Collagen drinks improve gut health as well as overall health and well-being. For best results, take Gold Collagen on an empty stomach in the morning and avoid eating for 30 minutes afterwards. Use it especially if you’re in menopause Just because you didn’t start a collagen supplement in your 20’s, doesn’t mean it’s too late to start. Menopause brings about changes in your entire body, including skin tone, texture, age spots etc. Gold Collagen Forte is enhanced with 2X more moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid compared to the Pure Gold Collagen formula and when taken during menopause it provides the body with the key building blocks to produce collagen naturally and counteract the appearance of ageing. Taking inspiration from Japanese beauty rituals that include a blend of collagen, antioxidants, and active ingredients, Gold Collagen will enhance your skin’s elasticity and natural collagen production. Created without sugar or preservatives, they are also suitable for Halal and Kosher diets. The range is available for purchase via www.beautyethic.com and leading pharmacies in the region. 85

SPORTS DIPLOMACY MAJED GAROUB
T
he concept of “Sports Diplomacy” is a new form of diplomacy, especially within the people and not just governments, in utilizing sports.
The powerful impact of sports media in conveying matches in most major popular sports, such as Football, Motorsports and Equestrian makes their matches the primary target for soft diplomacy. Golf, Tennis and Watersports are among the most important sports for the economic and social elite, who have become an integral part of the fusion of politics, diplomacy, media and sports. Heritage, antiquities, fashion and cinema are increasingly intertwined with sports and soft diplomacy. For three decades, the United States of America has adopted sports diplomacy in Cricket to approach the people of key countries immersed in the sport, such as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia. Saudi Arabia today, in the sports field and its diplomacy, despite the large sports investments in elite games such as Golf, Motorsports, Equestrian and E-Sports, has not achieved the media, social and public interaction at the international level as it has in Football, specifically by attracting star players. Bringing in top-tier players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Karim Benzema and others from the biggest clubs in the world have turned the attention of their 2 billion fans to the Kingdom and not just to the Saudi Football League itself. Soft sports diplomacy has a significant impact on the sports, culture, entertainment and tourism sectors. It serves as a pivotal tool for reinforcing international relationships and promoting peace, unity and mutual appreciation. The warm reception by countries, not just by the clubs and sports federations, for Saudi teams, especially Al-Nasr in the AFC Asian Cup match, is the best example of the new reality brought about by Saudi sports diplomacy. HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s interview on Fox News clearly expresses the impact of Sports and Football on a global scale.

That can only be achieved by a proper application of clinical governance. Clinical governance is a new term that integrates healthcare guidelines, leadership and operational management to form a well-structured healthcare operational excellence.
92
Also, establishing a comprehensive framework that helps organizations maintain high standards of care, including various elements such as clinical effectiveness, risk management, patient involvement and incidence reporting and analysis. It is very crucial that healthcare practitioners become more involved and knowledgeable of these concepts, since they are first responders to the patients, In order to change the mentality to a more customer based service providing behavior. In conclusion, privatization plays a big role in achieving high standards, by improving the practice of leadership through correlating the outcomes with different styles of management and the application of clinical governance.

RED SEA GLOBAL BUILDS LARGEST OFF-GRID EV CHARGING NETWORK IN SAUDI ARABIA 96
R
ed Sea Global (RSG), the multi-project developer behind the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism destinations, Amaala and The Red Sea, has completed installation of the largest off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Saudi Arabia. The network includes more than 150 charging stations spread across phase one of The Red Sea destination area. The stations are strategically placed to keep RSG’s initial fleet of 80 electric Lucid and Mercedes vehicles charged and on the road. “Our ambition to combine sustainability and luxury like never before takes a new form as we drive The Red Sea into the future of next-gen, smart mobility, fully powered by sunlight.” said John Pagano, Group CEO of RSG. “Our electric transport fleet and charging network not only elevates our environmental credibility with yet another global benchmark in carbon-neutral operations but does so in a way that matches our guests’ expectations for high-end style and comfort.” He added.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air vehicles are for the exclusive use of guest transport during their stay at The Red Sea. Whether arriving to, departing from, or travelling between the destination’s airport, its various resorts and facilities, guests can use the luxury electric fleet through advanced bookings or on-demand. The infrastructure required to service, maintain, and operate the fleet is also now in place ready for the arrival of the first guests to the destination. This includes a mobility hub that is expected to create 1,500 new jobs such as chauffeurs, hub managers, skilled technicians, and EV charging specialists. These roles will contribute to enhancing the Kingdom’s pioneering role in the field of future mobility while reaffirming RSG’s commitment to empowering young Saudis, particularly in local communities, with opportunities to thrive in industries of the future. As part of wider goals to become carbon neutral when fully operational, The Red Sea will be the world’s largest destination to run solely on renewable energy. Five solar farms with 760,000 photovoltaic panels have already been built to power phase one of the destination, including its EV fleet and charging network. Andreas Flourou, Group Head of Mobility at Red Sea Global, said: “Red Sea Global heralds a new era of cutting-edge mobility with Saudi Arabia’s premier luxury EV fleet marking a milestone in sustainable transportation. The addition of Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Airs, powered by our solar grid, reinforces our commitment to regenerative tourism. Our carbon-neutral operations provide guests with a seamless and stylish travel experience, while creating new jobs and empowering young Saudis.” The announcement follows plans to deploy Saudi Arabia’s first-ever fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses at The Red Sea for staff transport. Similar sustainable transport solutions are being explored across e-bikes, vans, trucks, yachts and ferries, boats, maintenance vehicles, airside vehicles and even off-road leisure pursuit vehicles. The Red Sea is welcoming its first guests this year. The Red Sea International Airport is now operational, receiving its first flights last month, and the first two hotels are taking bookings. Upon full completion in 2030, the destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, F&B, and leisure facilities. 97
MESTARIA GALLERY PRESENTS “DKHOUN” BY FATIMAH AL NEMER
S
audi artist Fatimah Al Nemer will be unveiling her latest exhibition, “Dkhoun”. This captivating exhibition invites us to explore the profound journey of a female protagonist, portrayed through the blend of modern techniques and traditional symbolic elements deeply rooted in Saudi culture. With a stroke of uniqueness, Fatimah Al Nemer breathes life into a powerful narrative, celebrating the strength and resilience of women.
98
Portraying the protagonist’s journey through carefully chosen symbols deeply ingrained in Saudi culture, narrating the character’s progression from silence and oppression to intuition and self-expression. Dkhoun: “Dkhoun” literally translates to “the most precious types of incense,” however, it elevates in meaning here to symbolise goodness, purity, sustenance, and provision—an essence felt through our senses. When we encounter

a scent, we instinctively close our eyes, immersing ourselves in the emotions it stirs. Naming the gallery collection “Dkhoun” signifies that it transcends senses; and embodies a woman’s intuition, nobility, and sublime essence, akin to the most precious incense. Throughout her art pieces other symbolic uses converge with the protagonist’s journey. The pomegranate symbolises a woman’s warmth and beauty, while the flower represents life itself. Another artwork uses, “Al Rababa,” - a traditional musical stringed instrument- which signifies the character’s sorrow and the transitional phase in life, while the dove signifies inner peace during life’s journey. Together, Fatimah’s unique blend of textiles and various materials, aims to seamlessly connect the past and culture with the present. Highlighting the character’s beauty, strength, and intelligence, striving to enlighten foreigners about the region’s authenticity. Each piece narrates a woman’s remarkable story, creating a beautiful window for viewers to live with the character’s journey from silence to self-discovery and inner peace, to expressing one’s true self. The exhibition features eight tapestry pieces meticulously crafted, each intricately woven using various silk materials, processed and merged into four layers on canvas. Acrylic colors are then added, resulting in a symphony of color and texture that mirrors the depth and richness of Saudi culture. “Art is a way of life” says Fatimah, where her inspiration is rooted in personal experiences and the struggle for self-expression. Fatimah
sees her art as a portal to evoke emotions and connect beyond the senses, conveying a message that reaches the depths of the human soul. Drawing became her tool for empowerment, building her confidence and character. Art began as a “childhood sanctuary,” a refuge for unspoken words as she was an extremely shy and timid personality. Through art’s gentle strokes, she found her voice and confidence, which led her to the realisation—”why not lend this expressive power to others, especially women?” Thus began her journey of embodying diverse characters, painting the strength and women’s worth, blending reality with
imagination. Her art became an emotional canvas, a lifelike translation of dreams and sentiments, intertwining tradition with a contemporary talent that resonates with a higher sense of purpose.
