CHOPARD LOVES CINEMA OFFICIAL PARTNER OF THE RED SEA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
F
or the second time, Chopard is the official watch and jewellery partner to the Red Sea International Film Festival, which will take place between November 30th and December 9th, 2023 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As part of its enduring romance with cinema, Chopard is proud to once again announce its partnership with the Red Sea International Film Festival. Bringing the best in Arab and world cinema to Jeddah, the third edition will be held from November 30th to December 9th. As the Festival’s watch and jewellery partner, Chopard will have the honour of designing and crafting in its workshops the main award of the competition, the “Golden Yusr for Best Feature Film”: a beautiful rock crystal shell enhanced with 18-carat ethical gold. Always keen to support a new generation of talents, the Maison will also present the “Best Emerging Talent Award”.
6
As part of this collaboration, Chopard has the honour of crafting the “Golden Yusr for Best Feature Film” awarded by the Festival jury at the end of the competition. This award is beautifully crafted in the shape of a shell from crystal rock, with gold engravings, thanks to the unique expertise cultivated within the Maison’s workshops. In 2022, in line with its commitment to promoting young talents, Chopard created a special trophy entitled the “Best Emerging Talent Award”. In 2023, this distinction will once again be presented to an emerging actor or actress as part of the Festival Awards Ceremony, thus turning the spotlight on a new generation of talents. Commenting on the collaboration, Caroline Scheufele said, “Chopard shares a number of key values with cinema, including a strong focus on daring and creativity. Just like movie stories, our watches and jewellery are thus great sources of emotion and a vector for escapism: they provide a comforting bubble away from the world. Today, we are thrilled to be furthering our commitment to the seventh art through
our partnership with the Red Sea International Film Festival.” “Following the launch of the Only Watch unique piece presented in 2021, this new Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model marks the debut of precious bulk metallic glass into the collection. This first in the watchmaking sector bears witness to the ongoing research into innovative materials conducted by the Manufacture since its creation.” Lucas Raggi - Development Director Audemars Piguet Chopard Loves Cinema Since 1998, Chopard has been a loyal official partner to the Cannes Film Festival. Caroline Scheufele has thus forged unfailing ties with the numerous directors, artists, stylists, actresses and actors whose creations she admires, and on the silver screen, as evidenced by the Maison’s participation in films such as Rocketman (Dexter Fletcher, 2019), Aline (Valérie Lemercier, 2020) or No Time To Die (Cary Joji Fukunaga, 2020), while ensuring that Chopard’s magnificent Haute Joaillerie adds to the sparkle of actresses on the red carpet during the promotion of their films. The love affair between Chopard and cinema is also at the origin of the Trophée Chopard, awarded each year since 2001 to highlight a young actress and actor emerging onto the international scene.

PARMIGIANI FLEURIER PRESENTS FINAL MASTERPIECES IN LES ROSES CARRÉES SERIES
P
armigiani Fleurier has presented the last two creations in the Roses Carrées “Grand Feu” collection: Rosa Cosmica and Rosa Alba. Crafted in glittering, autumnal hues - a gold sand dial for Rosa Cosmica and warm yellow for Rosa Alba - they complete the series of five masterpieces. Rosa Cosmica, Rosa Celeste, Rosa Mundi, Rosa Alba and Rosa Mystica are a beautiful celebration of the art of watchmaking. Like their counterparts, Rosa Cosmica and Rosa Alba are unique pieces, representing the absolute pinnacle of Haute Horlogerie, and the height of Parmigiani’s immense savoir-faire. They are not just exquisitely crafted with the maison’s hallmark, intricate “Roses Carrées” motif, but are powered by a highly technical Minute Repeater movement, magnificently decorated. The oneoff timepieces are an ode to traditional artisanship, brimming with mechanical virtue.
8
Brilliant Bijoux Craftsmanship is at the heart of Parmigiani. The enamellers, engravers and dozens of other artists involved in their production are the “golden hands” of the maison, devoted to their artform and committed to perpetuating founder Michel Parmigiani’s vision of horological excellence. All Grand Feu enameling on the dial and casebacks is hand-polished to create a contrast between the volume and pattern, and hand engraving ensures that the Rose Carrée motif is perfectly aligned to create a striking play of light like shimmering diamonds. Adding to the aesthetic detailing, the beating heart of the novelties brings them to life. One of the noblest and most historic complications, the Minute Repeater is the movement that makes the Rosa Cosmica and Rosa Alba tick – all 392 components of it. Striking the hours, quarter hours and minutes is not enough for these rare timekeeping roses: the incredible tone produced is thanks to the gongs on which the sound is produced, cathedral gongs. Their exceptional length, spanning one and a half trips around the movement, brings a deeper, richer sound, a more sustained vibration and a deeper intensity, all further heightened by the carefully designed case shape. With the intricate Roses Carrées “Grand Feu” collection, Parmigiani Fleurier reaffirms its standing as a technical powerhouse, a maison founded on artisanship, and a watchmaking leader.

AUDEMARS PIGUET PRESENTS TWO FULLY SET VARIATIONS OF ITS ROYAL OAK “JUMBO” EXTRA-THIN
S
wiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet presents two new fully set limited editions of its 39 mm Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model. While the first timepiece is crafted in 18-carat white gold and decorated with 1,528 brilliant-cut diamonds, the second combines 18-carat yellow gold with brilliant-cut yellow sapphires. Both models are powered by the selfwinding Calibre 7121, the Manufacture’s most recent and sophisticated extra-thin selfwinding movement that was unveiled in 2022 for the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary. THE SPARKLE OF A FULL SETTING
These two variations are an evolution of the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin model, revealed in 2018. The 18-carat white gold timepiece is paved with 1,528 brilliant-cut diamonds for a total of ~8.3 carats, which adorn the case, the bezel, the dial and the bracelet. The same gemsetting can be found on the 18-carat yellow gold model, but this time, the timepiece is entirely covered with yellow sapphires for a total of ~10.4 carats. The Manufacture’s artisans have opted exclusively for brilliant-cut stones, 10
giving these two models perfect uniformity. The two timepieces are also the embodiment of “a river”, in the high jewellery world, flowing seamlessly through the entire timepiece. Each gemstone has been carefully selected and cut to meet Audemars Piguet’s highest standards in terms of its purity, cut and colour. The brilliance of the diamonds and sapphires is also enhanced by the mirror-polished chamfers outlining the bezel, the case and the individual links of the bracelet. A LUMINOUS DIAL The two gold dials offer subtle nuances of colour. Each of their 422 stones reflects against the gold bezel, applied hour-markers and hands, offering luminous contrasts. The resulting plays of light enhance the legibility of the hour and minute hands, while the “Audemars Piguet” signature and AP monogram have been discreetly printed onto the sapphire crystal. The background of the date window at 3 o’clock has been specially matched to the watches’ white or yellow gold hues. The same applies to the 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight, visible on the caseback side, which is either rhodium-toned or plated with yellow gold.
THE EXTRA-THIN CALIBRE 7121 The two new models are driven by Calibre 7121, which displays the hours, the minutes and the date. This selfwinding movement has been specially designed for the extra-thin case of the “Jumbo”, without altering any of its finesse. Produced by Audemars Piguet’s engineers and watchmakers, this movement, which is only 3.2 mm thick, took five years to develop. It delivers more energy than the
previous generation (Calibre 2121) thanks to its new construction that includes a larger barrel, thus giving it more power and increased precision. In keeping with Haute Horlogerie codes, Calibre 7121 is embellished with emblematic decorations such as Côtes de Genève, traits tirés and circular satin finishing, which can be admired through the sapphire caseback. These two fully set variations of the Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin are available exclusively in Audemars Piguet boutiques. 11

On the Road
A ASTON MARTIN
ston Martin and British titanium bicycle leader J.Laverack have united to create a road bicycle without equal; the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R.
Developed with input from high-performance automotive designers, the .1R is the most bespoke, most advanced and most engineered bicycle ever created featuring a number of world firsts.
REVEALS THE WORLD’S MOST Synergising the shared values of the two high performance British brands, Aston Martin and J.Laverack BESPOKE, ADVANCED have applied truly innovative design and engineering processes to produce a fully integrated ‘visually boltdesign that possesses an aesthetic purity and obAND METICULOUSLY less’ session to detail beyond compare. ENGINEERED The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R uses a flawless fusion of parametrically designed, 3D printed titanium and sculpted carbon fibre tubes. This ensures a ROAD BICYCLE lugs frame that not only delivers an exceptional blend of
response and comfort, but also sets new standards of elegance and beauty on two wheels. The smooth unions of the lugs and tubes are truly innovative and
22
the herringboned weave of the carbon fibre on display is immaculate, despite the intricacy involved in manufacturing. Oliver Laverack, Co-founder of J.Laverack Bicycles, said: “Working with the team at Aston Martin has unlocked new ideas and innovations, the application of which has created a bicycle more advanced than anything currently available on the market. Working in collaboration with Aston Martin we have not only taken our titanium bicycles to new heights but have also unlocked true innovation within the cycling industry, creating a bicycle with unparalleled levels of craftsmanship and performance engineering. “Every component is designed to be part of the whole and to marry perfectly with the adjoining elements, achieving an unsurpassed degree of integration, which lays the foundation for the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R’s boltless design.” The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R features faultless clean lines, where bicycle owners would normally expect to find fixings at the stem or seat post. The integrated four piston brake calipers are clean sheet design and required the development of bespoke testing equipment. As a result, there is not a single exposed cable or hose visible on the whole bicycle. Applying innovations from outside the normal sphere of bicycles, everywhere you look on the .1R there are new solutions. Developed in collaboration with the most innovative designers from the high-performance automotive world, the .1R not only adopts design mastery from Aston Martin’s supercar and hypercar programmes but also benefits from the pinnacle of road bicycle engineering. Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin, said: “The J.Laverack
Aston Martin .1R is essentially a titanium hypercar on two wheels. The simple, clever genius is how we’ve fused the engineering advancements throughout the bike with a purity of performance design to deliver a viscerally exhilarating riding experience. The result is a distinctive form, born through tradition and technology and handcrafted using only the most advanced materials, befitting the pedigrees and forward-thinking natures of our two iconic British companies.” Each owner will be invited to Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon where a full fitting will take place with the founders of J.Laverack, providing limitless opportunity to customise their uniquely personal .1R. Customers can select the exact same colour palettes and trim choices available on Aston Martin’s cars, providing the opportunity to pair car and bike, should they wish to. Meanwhile, everyone will be able to specify their dream version of a .1R courtesy of the integration of the road bicycle into Aston Martin’s multi-award-winning online configurator. As well as the saddle and handlebar tape, this digital tool allows users to individually specify the colour of the tubes, lugs, forks, stem, seat post and handlebar drops.
23
If desired, the carbon fibre can of course be left bare in order to show off the beauty of the material. Accents such as the bottom bracket cups, brake calipers, and the brake disc centres have a special ceramic coating that can be picked out in bronze or muted in black. When a customer then takes delivery of their custom J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R, they will notice that each bike and its components such as hubs, cranks and frame are numbered, forever linking them as part of a whole. The bicycle will also be supplied with its own case, either in aluminium or carbon, which will double as both a travel solution and somewhere to display the .1R appropriately. Each .1R travel case will also include a track pump that matches the bike, featuring Alcantara or leather covered handles, and sits securely inside the protective cases. About the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is not a bicycle simply to be gazed at - it has been purposefully designed with performance and riding experience at the core. For example, the integrated brakes are not merely attractive, the use of four pistons as opposed to the usual two gives greater progression and feel through the levers. The .1R’s frame demonstrates a similar blend of form and function: By using a combination of Ti 6Al/4V titanium, which is known for its lively ride qualities, and carbon fibre to provide the requisite stiffness, the .1R 24
has a responsiveness that will delight everywhere from the rough cobbles of Flanders to the soaring climbs of the Pyrenees. Further evidence that the .1R has been designed for long, enjoyable days in the saddle is manifested in the unparalleled way in which each bike can be tailored to its owner. Although custom fitting isn’t new in the world of bicycles, it is usually more in the realm of made to measure, whereas the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is truly bespoke. Typifying this philosophy, each Sphyr stem - named after the hammerhead shark (Sphyrna) - will be 3D printed from titanium to each owner’s unique measurements. Reach and width can all be specified with absolute precision. Continuing in this vein, while crank lengths are generally only available in increments of 2.5mm, the owner of a .1R will be able to specify his or her crank length down to fractions of a millimetre. This is thanks to bespoke, 3D printed titanium tips on the carbon crank arms. The saddle height will be adjusted using a set of beautiful bespoke titanium collars that can be interchanged. Each bicycle will also be supplied with a unique set of tools, that will sit alongside the collars, inside a beautifully handmade wooden tool case. The phrase ‘badge engineering’ has often been associated with collaborative bicycle projects in the past, but
On the Road the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R brings a rather different meaning to the expression. Set under the lacquer, the metal badges on this bicycle have truly beautiful engineering behind them. Each one measures just 40 microns thin and employs the same process used on the Aston Martin Valkyrie’s badge, which was dubbed the lace wing. The hypercar’s wheel design can be glimpsed in miniature in the titanium piston caps of the brakes on the bike, while if you inspect the beautifully machined cups on the threaded bottom bracket of the .1R and you will notice parallels with the central wheel nuts on an Aston Martin Valkyrie. Other details include the pierced stem, which artfully mirrors the side strake on an Aston Martin DB12 yet still allows enough room for the internal routing of the brake hoses. The titanium thru axles are also a work of art, with a wall thickness of just 0.7mm in places. And, unlike other bicycles, the end of each axle is hidden on the non-drive side.
Blend the innovative with the traditional, the sublime beauty and precise functionality of the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is something extremely special. Handcrafted in the UK it is a true collaboration between two companies that are at the forefront of their fields. Aston Martin’s founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford were brought together through racing bicycles at London’s historic Bath Road Club and there is little doubt that the .1R, the world’s most bespoke, advanced and meticulously engineered bike, is something they would have been thrilled by. The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R will make its public debut at Rouleur Live in London on Thursday 2 November. A celebration of cycling culture, Rouleur Live is taking place at Truman Brewery, London from Thursday 2 November until Saturday 4 November. To find out more about the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R, please visit astonmartin.jlaverack.co.uk
Customers will be able to choose from any of the three 12-speed groupsets used by professionals in the UCI World Tour. Whether there is a preference for, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Campagnolo Super Record Wireless or SRAM RED eTap AXS, the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R can be built accordingly. The .1R’s bespoke chainrings are machined from aluminium and the sizes can be specified by each owner. The AERA Components Æ|55 wheels are also unique to the .1R, featuring 55mm deep carbon tubeless rims with an internal width of 22mm. They are laced with 28 Sapim CX-Ray spokes that continue a black colour scheme on the wheels, as do the hubs that have been designed specifically for the .1R and are machined to perfection from high strength aerospace aluminium before being finished in a custom brevet black colour way. Continental has even created a 30mm wide special stealth black version of its GP5000S TR tyres, which are the optimal width for the specially made carbon rims and offer a perfect blend of speed and comfort. The C13 saddle from British company Brooks has been specifically commissioned for the .1R. Each saddle can be trimmed in the owners choice of leather or Alcantara, and is finished with a single titanium rivet. The same material choice is available for the handlebar grips, with the full suite of Aston Martin colours on offer. 25

DUCATI DIAVEL FOR BENTLEY: EXCLUSIVITY, PERFORMANCE AND CRAFTSMANSHIP IN A TRUE TWO-WHEELED WORK OF ART
D
ucati and Bentley are proud to jointly announce a new, limited-edition motorcycle that celebrates the best of both iconic brands: the Ducati Diavel for Bentley. Born from a collaboration between the two manufacturers, the project links Ducati and Bentley with a vision of performance, craftsmanship and exclusivity. The result is a striking synthesis of technology, style and performance capable of making enthusiasts dream. The bike will be revealed to the public tonight with a ‘fuorisalone’ event at Art Basel in Miami, the overseas edition of the most prestigious European contemporary art fair. On the sophisticated technical base of the high-performance and comfortable Diavel V4, Ducati has integrated characterising elements of the Bentley Batur – of which only 18 examples will be handcrafted by Bentley - to create a motorcycle unique in terms of elegance and design. The Diavel for Bentley will be created in a numbered series limited to 500 examples, plus an additional 50 even more special “Ducati Diavel for Bentley Mulliner” motorbikes. The latter are reserved for Bentley customers, and include the personalisation and individuality that is so intrinsic to the Batur on which the bikes are based. 26
The Inspriation – Bentley Batur Batur is Bentley’s most powerful production car ever, with a 740 PS twin-turbo W12 engine. More than that, the Batur combines benchmark Bentley craftsmanship with sculptured, muscular bodywork that defines a new design DNA for Bentley with previews a new design direction for the brand. The visual message communicates great power and elegance, without ostentation or excess. The 18 examples of the Batur are individually hand-crafted by Mulliner, the oldest coachbuilder in the world and Bentley’s in-house bespoke division.
Diavel for Bentley The Centro Stile Ducati, in collaboration with Bentley designers, created a new design for this special motorbike, drawing inspiration from the Batur from which it takes the lines of the side view. The Scarab Green colour, sophisticated and refined and rich in metallic shades comes from the Bentley Mulliner palette and is used throughout the bodywork. The decisive and aggressive lines of the Diavel V4 have also been profoundly revised through the technical components: many of the characteristic features of the Batur 27

are taken up in different parts of the bike. The forged rims, designed and created for this motorbike, recall the shapes of those of the car and are painted in Dark Titanium Satin, leaving some machined surfaces visible. The side air intakes reflect the twotone front grille, one of the most recognizable elements of the Batur. The triangular rear extractors refer to the corresponding elements of the car. The front mudguard, the fairing and the upper view of the tank recall the ribs on the front bonnet, while the single-seater tail, which can be replaced with a passenger seat, takes many styling cues from the rear of the Batur. Many of the bodywork components are made of high-quality carbon fibre (fenders, headlamp cover, engine, exhaust and radiator covers, radiator shrouds, side panels, tail piece). The rider’s seat, in black Alcantara, is inspired by the interior of the car, with precision workmanship that reveals the underlying red fabric
with the same to that of the Batur seats and with the Bentley logo embroidered on the rear pad. The dual outlet exhaust, with its cover, has been redesigned to harmonize with the refined lines of the bike. Diavel for Bentley Mulliner In addition to the 500 Diavel for Bentley examples, Ducati also offers a series of just 50 examples, called Diavel for Bentley Mulliner. The 50 Diavel for Bentley Mulliner motorbikea will be available exclusively to customers of Mulliner, who through direct collaboration with the designers of the Centro Stile Ducati, will be able to configure their Diavel for Bentley Mulliner with different colours for the saddle, front brake calipers, carbon fibre parts and rims. They will also be able to choose the same colour as their car for the bodywork parts or one of those from an exclusive palette selected by Mulliner’s designer for this special and highly exclusive series.
The Final Details The Diavel for Bentley, like all collectible Ducatis, is delivered with a certificate of authenticity, a passenger seat and a motorcycle cover. The name of the model and the production number of the unit are shown on a plate inserted in the carbon fibre cover of the vertical head, on the right side of the motorcycle. Both the dashboard, equipped as standard with turn-by-turn navigator, and the LED matrix of the rear light cluster offer a special animation at the keyon which makes the Diavel for Bentley even more unmistakable. Finally, each Diavel for Bentley will be delivered in an exclusive personalised wooden case. The collaboration between the two manufacturers has also led to the creation of a Capsule Collection, reserved for Diavel for Bentley owners, which allows customers to complete their look with a jet helmet and a technical jacket (available in both men’s and women’s versions) in a limited edition, characterized by a colour scheme that reflects that of the motorbike. The Diavel for Bentley adopts the 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo engine, a central element of its design and at the same time a highly refined technical choice. Powerful (168 hp), rich in torque but also extremely light and compact, it is at the same time fluid and usable right from the lowest revs. The Twin Pulse combustion order, together with the dedicated exhaust system, unmistakably characterize the timbre of the exhaust. This joint project stems from Ducati and Bentley both being part of the Volkswagen Group’s “Progressive Brand Group”, which also includes Audi and Lamborghini.

Witnessing the unwavering commitment of Japanese hospitality professionals to anticipate and exceed guests’ needs has taught me the power of genuine care and
attentiveness in creating exceptional experiences. It emphasised servant leadership, leading by example and empowering team members. From both my international travels and living in so many different countries, I have also learned that cultural sensitivity and adaptability are crucial for personalised experiences. A thoughtful and empathetic leadership approach has a transformative impact, fostering a culture of genuine care and creating extraordinary guest experiences. Having lived in various countries, is there a particular place or experience from your personal life that holds a special significance for you and has left a lasting impact on your journey? INTERVIEW WITH FAY FOUAD The Saudi film industry has been gaining recognition internationally. How do you think this recognition is reshaping the perception of luxury in Saudi Arabia? It’s really exciting to see people from all over the world noticing Saudi films. It’s like we’re opening a window to our world that wasn’t there before. For a long time, when people thought of luxury in Saudi Arabia, they probably pictured expensive cars and shiny skyscrapers. But now, our movies are showing a different side of luxury. It’s in the stories we tell, the traditions we share, and the art we create. It feels like we’re saying, “Hey, there’s more to us than just the glitz.” Our real luxury is in our imagination, the tales passed down from our grandparents, and the beauty of our culture. It’s about what makes us unique and proud, not just the stuff we own. Luxury brands often seek to align themselves with cultural influencers. How do you envision your role in bridging the worlds of luxury and Saudi cinema?
As a prominent figure in the Saudi entertainment industry, how do you see Saudi cinema contributing to the country’s image of luxury and sophistication on the global stage? I’ve seen our Saudi film industry grow so much recently. It’s amazing to be part of it. Our movies are like windows into our world - they show our past, our culture, and what we dream for the future. People often think of Saudi Arabia as a place of wealth and luxury, but our films are about much more. We’re telling stories that are rich in ideas, full of new thinking, and show our nation’s drive to achieve great things. Through these stories, we’re inviting everyone to see the real beauty of our country - it’s not just about money or fancy buildings, but about the people, our dreams, and the heart of Saudi Arabia. 40
I’ve always seen a special connection between the glamour of luxury brands and the magic of movies. They both have a way of telling stories that touch our hearts. In my acting career, I feel like a storyteller, bringing tales to life on screen. When I work with luxury brands, it’s like we’re mixing two worlds – their beautiful, stylish vibe with the stories we tell in our films. It’s more than just making things look pretty; it’s about adding a layer of our culture and heritage to that shine. I love the idea of blending the richness of our traditions with the elegance of these brands. It’s like weaving a beautiful tapestry that speaks to our audience, connecting them to something deeper and more meaningful. Saudi Arabia has been making significant investments in its entertainment and cultural sectors. How do you believe this investment impacts the portrayal of luxury in your country’s film industry? As a young actress in Saudi Arabia, I’ve felt a real change in the air with all the new support for arts and
The Trendsetter
But what really struck me was the conversation I had with the designer sharing with me the vision behind each piece, how it had drawn inspiration from different cultures, and the meticulous craftsmanship that went into making them. It wasn’t just about looking glamorous; it was about wearing a story, a piece of someone’s heart and hard work. Wearing his creation on the red carpet, I felt a sense of pride and responsibility – it was more than just an outfit, it was a representation of art and culture. This even motivated me to play the role of a young Saudi fashion designer trying to create her bath in life and showing how hard it is to reach your goals, that was in “Mama Ghanima” early this year, and got nominated as favorite rising actress in the upcoming Joy Awards.
culture. It’s like we’ve been given a new set of colors to paint with. It’s not just about having more money to make movies; it’s about what this investment means for the stories we can tell and how we tell them. We’re moving away from just showing the shiny surface of luxury - the kind you can buy. Now, we’re exploring a deeper kind of luxury in our films. It’s about the richness of our history, the warmth of our traditions, and how they meet our modern dreams and ambitions. This new support is helping us weave these elements together, creating films that show a different, more thoughtful kind of luxury. It’s about capturing the spirit and heart of Saudi Arabia, not just its wealth. Can you share any personal experiences or anecdotes related to luxury collaborations or encounters within the entertainment industry? Absolutely, I’ve had some memorable experiences with luxury collaborations during my career. One that stands out was when I worked with a high-end fashion brand for a film premiere. The whole process felt like a glimpse into another world. I remember visiting their showroom, and it was like stepping into a dream. The dresses were like pieces of art, each telling its own story through designs and luxurious fabrics.
In your opinion, what unique aspects of Saudi culture and heritage can contribute to the luxurious aesthetics and storytelling within Saudi cinema? My journey as an actress in Saudi has been a real eye-opener in understanding the intersection of cinema and luxury. Each project I’ve been a part of, each role I’ve played, has been like a new chapter in a book, revealing a little more about the world of Saudi cinema and its unique relationship with luxury. In Saudi Arabia, luxury often conjures images of grandeur and opulence, but in our films, it’s depicted with more subtlety and depth. It’s not just about displaying wealth or lavish lifestyles. Instead, it’s about showcasing the richness of our culture, the depth of our storytelling, and the elegance of our traditions. It’s a more nuanced kind of luxury – one that’s woven into the fabric of our stories, whether it’s through the depiction of our beautiful landscapes, the intricate details of our traditional costumes, or the sophisticated portrayal of our customs. Outside of your acting career, what are your personal interests and hobbies? How do you unwind and recharge? Family and friends… cooking, reading, sports and travel. 41
Can you share a memorable moment from your life that had a profound impact on your journey as an actress? I’ll never forget this one night, early in my acting career, after a local theater show. The play was about a young Saudi woman, a character a lot like me, trying to find her way between old traditions and new dreams. It was the last show, and I was feeling all sorts of emotions. Then this lady came up to me, her eyes brimming with tears. She told me how my character’s journey spoke to her, how it felt like her story too, and how it gave her a bit of courage to deal with her own life. That moment really hit me deep. It was like a light switched on, showing me how powerful stories can be, how they can touch someone’s heart and maybe even change a bit of their world. It made me see acting differently. From then on, it wasn’t just about being on stage or screen. It was about reaching out, sharing stories that might give someone else a bit of strength, a bit of hope. I started picking my roles with this in mind, hoping to be a voice for those stories that don’t always get heard. It’s like a promise I made to myself, to keep finding those stories that need to be told, those that might light up someone else’s world, even if it’s just for a moment. As someone who’s achieved success at a young age, what advice would you give to other young individuals aspiring to excel in their chosen fields? For anyone stepping into the world of acting, or any field really, I’ve learned that finding your passion is like finding a guiding star. It’s that deep love for what you do that makes the long, exhausting days and the setbacks seem worth it. In this industry, it’s so important to hold on to who you really are. Your unique voice, your perspective – that’s your magic. And the world around us, it’s always changing, so keeping up with new methods, technologies, and trends keeps you sharp and in tune with the times. But let me tell you, resilience is your best friend in this journey. There will be times when doors close, when you face criticism, and it’s in these moments that you need to find strength in yourself, to rise again even stronger. Having a circle of support – family, friends, mentors – they’re your safe haven, the 42

ones who’ll hold you steady when the waves get rough. And remember, every small victory, every little step forward is worth celebrating. It’s these small wins that add up and keep you going. But through it all, staying humble keeps you grounded. The glitz and glamour are part of the journey, but they’re not the journey itself. Never forget where you started, the people who stood by you, and the lessons you’ve learned along the way. That’s what keeps you true to yourself and true to the art you love so much. Being a role model for many, how do you handle the pressures and responsibilities that come with fame and success? Being in the spotlight and knowing that people, especially young fans, look up to me, comes with its own set of pressures and responsibilities. It’s something I think about a lot. There are days when the weight of being a role model feels heavy, when every choice I make, every word I say, seems to carry extra significance. What I’ve learned is to take it one day at a time and stay true to myself. I try to be mindful of my actions and their impact, but I also remind myself that I’m human – I make mistakes, I learn, and I grow. It’s important for me to show that it’s okay not to be perfect, that it’s
okay to have flaws and to work through them. I think there’s something powerful in being real with people, in showing that success doesn’t mean having all the answers or doing everything right. Can you tell us about any upcoming personal or professional milestones or goals you’re excited about in the near future? Working on several projects, between acting and developing. My passion to storytelling goes beyond acting, I love to be part of the story. Lastly, what’s a fun fact or hidden talent about you that your fans might not be aware of? Here’s a little secret: I find cooking incredibly therapeutic. After a long day of shooting or rehearsals, there’s nothing more relaxing than coming home and losing myself in the rhythm of chopping, stirring, and sautéing. It’s a world away from acting and a side of me that not many see the home chef who finds joy in the simple pleasure of making a meal. Maybe one day, I’ll share some of my special recipes with the world!

I wouldn’t call it education but more of community awareness and that came as being part of the community & a mother that seeked behavior change in both young and not so young generations. The Guinness world record attempt was a tool to grab attention.. and it worked. We had around 1.2 million beneficiaries from all walks of life and over 200 girls & boys volunteer ,supervised by 6 renowned Saudi artists it was a massive collective effort with a global achievement breaking the world record of the largest environmentally friendly hand printed canvas in the world (10.235m2). Im proud to say it’s the only Guinness world record under the name of “the people of Saudi Arabia” and was gifted to King Abdullah peace be upon him on the Saudi national day 23 September 2013 How do you see the role of mentorship in your career, either as a mentee or mentor? I consider it a day to day aspect that should be a default to any true leader.
How do you unwind or find balance outside of your professional commitments? Any hobbies or activities that provide you with a sense of relaxation or inspiration? Nature to me is a sanctuary where I cleanse my eyes, mind and soul, greenery & water soothes me. Watching all kinds of wild life around me,I tend to focus on tasbeeh and how Allah has created unique beauty in everything. As activities I enjoy all kinds of water sports including scuba diving. And like to listen to different genres of music. I get inspired by traveling to new places & thrive on new adventures & experiences. As a speaker and moderator at global forums, what has been the most memorable moment or interaction that stands out in your mind? I had a good share of both good and bad experiences and interactions, but what always gave me pride was when attendees would come to me after a panel or presentation in surprise and awe of me being a Saudi woman AND in this domain which gave me the opportunity to flaunt my country’s leadership, culture &potentials.I’ve been called a dual ambassador..one of Saudi woman and of Saudi environmental sustainability and I love to keep that momentum going.
I’m extremely proud of what we as a country achieved and of what we aspire to achieve in the near and far future. In your journey, you’ve received numerous awards and accolades. Is there a specific recognition that holds a special place in your heart, and why? Yes they were many alhamdulilah but the special one in my heart is the Guinness world record, the reason is that before the kick off of the project my beloved father passed away, I was devastated and felt crippled and numb till my team very softly and politely asked me if we were going to commence with it or not. So I pushed myself very hard to get up and move and it was the best thing I could have done .. I put all my focus into it and each day the feeling of happiness was getting stronger with every remark or comment or gratitude I heard and felt from volunteers and beneficiaries , I made a sojood to Allah end of every day praying for my father and wishing for him to be proud of me, also it was an immense opportunity to do alot of philanthropy in his name. Alhamdulilah may Allah accept all our good deads. Looking ahead, what aspirations or goals do you have for the future, both professionally and personally? Our kingdom’s vision 2030 and 2060 net zero goals are an aspiration and my goal is to greatly support various sectors in achieving the sustainable development targets while ensuring the economical growth and prosperity of Saudi. I’m very confident of CEC’s team & proud that we are the chosen
partnersby public & private entities to achieve their respective goals. We work beyond the borders and aspire to be the global leader in sustainability & circular economy service providers. On a personal level I wish to know that my grandchildren’s kids will live a healthy high quality life. How do you believe the luxury industry can effectively integrate sustainability and circular economy principles without compromising the exclusivity and prestige traditionally associated with luxury brands? Integrating sustainability and circular economy into the luxury industry is a chance to redefine exclusivity with eco-consciousness.
Adopting innovative, sustainable materials and processes is crucial, as shown by Gucci and Stella McCartney, who’ve enhanced their prestige while attracting eco-aware customers. Storytelling is key, allowing brands to forge deeper connections by embedding sustainability into their narrative. In this scenario, the luxury market battle is not only economic and financial (e.g., market share, sale, and profit) but also involves sustainable initiatives to acquire new customers because sustainability allows firms to differentiate their offerings. Transparency is also vital, as evidenced by Dolce & Gabbana’s criticism for their opaque sustainability efforts, highlighting the need for brands to be open and engage consumers in their sustainability journey. Collaborations and personalized, 45
sustainable products further enrich the luxury experience. I believe that true luxury in today’s world is not just about opulence and rarity, but also about responsible and ethical production. Given your role as a sustainability advisor, what strategies do you recommend for luxury brands to incorporate environmental considerations into their manufacturing processes and supply chains? The concepts of luxury and sustainability are related to the production of certain luxury items that entail the use of precious, unique, and high-quality materials Beyond the opportunity to differentiate itself from competition sustainability has become a fundamental pillar in the business of luxury industry. A key strategy is the implementation of sustainable supply chain practices. Companies must rethink their value chain structures, reconceive governance mechanisms, and innovate business models. Moreover, it requires that firms to design and manage a sustainable supply chain practices according to the circular business models and strategies to tackle environmental, financial, and social issues. Training plays a pivotal role at CEC in supporting luxury brands to harmonize their manufacturing processes with environmental objectives. We offer extensive training programs designed to guide these brands towards more sustainable practices. A prime example of our effective approach is our work in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, with the sustainable tourism sector. There, we implemented a program for identifying gaps and building capacity 46
around sustainable sourcing and waste reduction. These efforts are a testament to our commitment to embed eco-friendly practices in the luxury industry, proving that luxury and sustainability can coexist and even enhance each other. In your experience, how can luxury brands leverage their influence to drive positive environmental and social change, both within the industry and on a global scale? In 2023, the value of the personal luxury goods market worldwide was estimated to be 353 billion euros. I believe in ethical luxury and the power (and means) that luxury brands have to make a difference. That’s why my company, CEC, recently launched what we believe to be a measurable action not just an initiative “The Sustainable Champions Story”: Where we work together with companies including the luxury industries from co-capturing, analyzing, leveraging, capitalizing and advancing their ESG matrix and practices.
Moreover, recognizing them as champions and sharing their best practices is a clear driver for others to join the call to action and learn from the best. Luxury brands, like Lucid, have a unique opportunity to lead by example. By adopting sustainable practices, they not only contribute to environmental preservation but also influence consumer and industry behaviors globally. For instance, Lucid’s advancements in electric vehicle technology demonstrate how luxury and sustainability can coexist, encouraging others in the sector to follow suit. As the chairwoman of “CEC Circular Economy co.” how has the company contributed to providing economical environmental solutions to the luxury sector, and what unique challenges does this sector pose? As the chairwoman of CEC Circular Economy Co., I recognize the unique position the luxury sector holds in terms of environmental impact and the potential for meaningful
The Trendsetter
change. Our company has been instrumental in facilitating economical environmental solutions tailored specifically to the luxury industry. We understand that sustainability is not a destination but a continuous journey of improvement and innovation. In collaboration with our clients, we offer a comprehensive approach, encompassing consulting, training, and strategy development to seamlessly integrate sustainability into their core values and mission. Our initiatives range from co-creating bespoke solutions to unique sustainability challenges, to leveraging our collective influence in advocating for environmentally friendly policies and practices industry-wide. A notable challenge in the luxury sector is maintaining the balance between exclusivity and eco-consciousness. We tackle this by helping brands navigate the delicate interplay of upholding their prestige while transitioning to more sustainable practices, ensuring that luxury and sustainability are not seen as mutually exclusive but as harmonious and essential complements to each other. “Circular Economy Co.” focuses on sustainability and circular economy innovations. Can you elaborate on how these innovations can be tailored to align with the values and expectations of luxury consumers? At CEC, we recognize that digital technology and sustainability create a virtuous cycle. We’re connecting data things and people in innovative and sustainable ways by
using sustainable technologies for better business performance and a competitive edge. We prioritize investment in technologies that will deliver two-for-one benefits to achieve organization’s financial and sustainability goals. Luxury brands like LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton are investing in AI to research and develop new sustainable materials. AI helps in simulating and testing the properties of new materials, speeding up the innovation process while ensuring that these materials meet the high standards expected by luxury consumers. Another example is AI-driven inventory management systems are being adopted by brands like Prada. These systems predict demand more accurately, reducing overproduction and waste. They also help in identifying the most efficient routes for transportation, reducing carbon footprint. Being a part of the Saudi Leaders Majlis, How do you see the role of luxury brands in contributing to the overall economic and sustainable development goals of Saudi Arabia? Luxury brands can help diversify the Saudi economy beyond its traditional reliance on oil. By investing in the luxury retail sector, these brands can create jobs, stimulate growth in related industries like tourism and hospitality, and contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Saudi Arabia’s foray into luxury markets is multifaceted, exemplified by initiatives like Red Sea Global Tourism, which is transforming the Red Sea coast into a hub for luxury tourism, aiming to
diversify the economy beyond oil while creating jobs and aligning with sustainability goals. AlUla is being developed as a luxury tourist destination, combining its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage with high-end accommodations to both preserve its history and boost the local economy. The investment in Lucid Motors aligns the country with the luxury electric vehicle market, contributing to economic diversification and environmental sustainability, while positioning Saudi Arabia at the forefront of green technology. Furthermore, the promotion of Saudi luxury brands in fashion and jewellery showcases local craftsmanship and design on a global stage, helping to preserve and promote traditional arts and crafts and carving a unique identity for Saudi luxury goods internationally. Your involvement in the B20 Saudi Arabia “Energy, Sustainability & Climate Taskforce” suggests a broader perspective on sustainability. How can luxury brands actively engage in global sustainability initiatives and contribute meaningfully? I am convinced that sustainability creates value is part of my strategic vision for Luxury vertical. Sustainability can – and must – give rise to new, highly ambitious business models and become a lever of competitiveness for luxury brand globally. Luxury and sustainability are two words you may not particularly expect to find in the same sentence; However, Positive luxury isn’t as far away as we may think. Those who want products of the highest quality do not have to compromise on ethics — that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. 47

Located in NEOM and steeped in history and mythology, Leyja starts from the Gulf of Aqaba coast and its alluring waters in the west, then winds inland to form a magnificent natural valley carved between 400m-high mountains that have been crafted over long centuries by the power of nature and water.
56
Leyja builds on NEOM’s ongoing commitment to becoming a multi-faceted destination and supports the Kingdom’s efforts to build a strong and sustainable tourism industry under Saudi Vision 2030. DR. MAJED GAROUB
S
ocial responsibility, from a legal perspective, is the obligation of companies to allocate a specific portion of their profits to support projects that serve the community in medical, educational, sports, or cultural aspects, thereby enhancing sustainable development. Industrial, commercial, and professional entities, including law firms, can engage in social responsibility programs. An example is the Takamul initiative, which provides a million hours of free legal and judicial services to charities and individuals unable to afford legal fees in labor and family cases, with the help of 1000 preselected and trained members, for free, by our office and also through our affiliated training center. The sports community, with its stars, clubs, and significant media presence in over 1000 major games including team sports like football and cricket, and elite sports like motorsports, equestrian, tennis, golf, and water sports. All of which is required to serve the nation, people, and fans through innovative programs and events to spread knowledge and culture, denounce violence and intolerance, and promote sports as a message of peace and development. These entities should initiate programs and ideas beyond traditional activities like visiting patients and injured people in hospitals to more impactful and profound programs for sports fans and enthusiasts. The private sector has great and important opportunities to support social responsibility programs through engagement with the Special Olympics Federation, and the Paralympic Committee, and by supporting and empowering women’s sports. This can be an important and necessary motivator to achieve the Vision 2030 goals towards a vibrant society that achieves quality of life objectives in sports, entertainment, culture, and tourism.

THE GREEN VANGUARD: FOSTERING SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP IN THE KINGDOM DR. DINA AL NAHDY
I
n the dynamic realm of global business, Saudi Arabia is making a significant mark with its commitment to sustainable finance and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting. This commitment is deeply intertwined with the Kingdom’s transformative Vision 2030, which signifies a major leap in embedding ESG factors into the core of its business philosophy. Companies in the Kingdom are increasingly aligning with national sustainability targets and recognizing the impact of these factors on their operations. This shift towards a proactive approach, which involves robust ESG reporting mechanisms, transcends mere compliance; it opens doors to new opportunities, risk mitigation, and a meaningful contribution to a sustainable future, thus enhancing the long-term value and global competitiveness of these companies. The Kingdom’s pledge to sustainability and ESG principles is reflected in its recent history, marked by strategic initiatives and developments. The launch of Vision 2030 in 2016 set a clear direction for the Kingdom’s sustainable journey. This was followed by key initiatives like the King Salman Renewable Energy Initiative in 2017, the National Environment Strategy in 2018, and the establishment
72
of National Environmental Centres in 2019. The creation of the Special Forces for Environmental Security and the Environmental Fund in 2020, along with the launch of the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives in 2021, underscored the seriousness with which the Kingdom approached environmental protection and sustainability. The year 2021 also saw the setting of a national goal to reach net zero by 2060, and Tadawul’s introduction of sustainability disclosure guidelines for listed companies. The Public Investment Fund’s completion of a US$ 3 billion inaugural green bond in 2022 and the Corporate Governance Regulations issued by the CMA addressed critical ESG areas. Furthermore, the events of 2023, including Tadawul’s signing of a MoU with the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the CMA to implement an ESG framework, the PIF’s completion of a US$ 5.5 billion green bond issuance, and the CMA’s Corporate Governance Code, all highlight the Kingdom’s continued commitment to sustainable practices. Despite these strides, a 2023 PwC survey in the MENA region indicates gaps in the integration of ESG and sustainability. While 64% of respondents have adopted a formal ESG strategy, and 66% desire more
CEO and Board attention on ESG issues, the integration of ESG within risk management frameworks, especially in the banking sector, is lagging, with only 60% of banks claiming to integrate ESG into risk management and just 40% having a formal ESG policy. In terms of economic growth, Saudi Arabia has made significant progress towards its Vision 2030 goals. The non-oil GDP grew by 4.8% in 2022, driven by robust private consumption and non-oil private investment. However, achieving the goal of a 65% private sector contribution by 2030 remains ambitious. With about 1.23 million SMEs in the Kingdom, there’s a clear pathway to increasing this sector’s contribution to the GDP by aligning with sustainability goals, which can improve financial performance and access to diverse funding sources. Saudi Arabia has been making significant strides in developing sustainability leadership through various initiatives and programs. Key efforts include the Misk Global Forum, which fosters leadership and innovation among youth, including
sustainability issues. The King Khalid Foundation has also been instrumental in providing trainings and resources focused on sustainable development and social responsibility. Additionally, university institutes across the Kingdom offer specialized programs and research in sustainability, equipping future leaders with the knowledge and skills needed in this field. These institutions are playing a pivotal role in advancing understanding and implementation of sustainable practices, aligning academic research with the Kingdom’s sustainability goals under Vision 2030. The Saudi government has introduced stimulus packages valued at up to SR200 billion ($53 billion) under the Fiscal Balance Program. These packages are designed to empower the private sector, including SMEs, fostering their growth and participation in the national economy. The focus on strengthening the private sector is also evident through initiatives like the national industrial development program and the emphasis
on boosting local content across various sectors. Digital systems, such as the new government procurement and competition system, are designed to give priority to local content and SMEs, mandating a certain proportion of contract value. The Etimad digital financial platform further augments SMEs’ ability to participate in competition and procurement, thereby increasing transparency and consolidating procedures, as highlighted by Zawya. However, a notable gap remains in the awareness and understanding of sustainability and circular economy concepts in the Kingdom. To effectively craft a sustainability leadership cadre within the Kingdom, a multi-faceted approach is necessary, one that considers the unique landscape and ambitious goals of Vision 2030. This approach encompasses various segments: C-Suite Leadership: Vision 2030 acts as a guiding star for top executives in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing environmental sustainability as a strategic priority. This vision is
exemplified by ambitious projects like the Saudi Green Initiative and NEOM. The Saudi Green Initiative, launched in 2021, focuses on combating climate change and improving quality of life while aiming for net-zero emissions by 2060. It involves various projects such as reducing carbon emissions, planting billions of trees, and protecting a significant portion of the country’s land and sea areas. Similarly, NEOM, a futuristic city initiative launched in 2017, is set to transform the Red Sea coast into a sustainable urban development, powered entirely by renewable energy and prioritizing community health and environmental protection. These initiatives represent significant long-term economic opportunities, leveraging Saudi Arabia’s potential as a renewable energy powerhouse and enhancing the global reputation of Saudi companies. Sustainability Managers: Professionals in sustainability management are crucial in tackling environmental challenges like water scarcity and desertification in Saudi Arabia. Their role is critical in 73
The Trendsetter
driving sustainable initiatives across the Kingdom, leveraging local ecosystems and community engagement. Initiatives under the Saudi Green Initiative, such as planting trees and rehabilitating land, demonstrate the practical application of these professionals’ skills in enhancing the country’s environmental health and sustainability. Women Leadership in Sustainability: The development of women’s leadership in sustainability is crucial for Saudi Arabia, especially under Vision 2030. This vision not only emphasizes economic diversification and technological advancement but also underscores the importance of inclusivity and gender equality in driving sustainable growth. Developing women leaders in sustainability fields is essential to harness diverse perspectives and skills vital for innovative and effective solutions to environmental challenges. Empowering women in leadership roles can foster a more inclusive approach to sustainability, ensuring that environmental policies and initiatives consider the needs and insights of all segments of society. This focus on women’s leadership development aligns with the Kingdom’s broader goals of enhancing women’s participation in the workforce and their contribution to the national economy. On-the-Job Training: Tailoring training programs to the specific needs of the Saudi workforce, including courses in desert agriculture, green construction techniques, and sustainable industry practices, is vital. Establishing a national hub for sustainability training can ensure a steady stream of 74
qualified professionals. For instance, The Red Sea Project, a luxury regenerative tourism destination, aims to diversify the Saudi economy away from oil-dependence, create about 70,000 jobs by 2030, and contribute $5.3bn annually to the Saudi economy from 2030. In this project, a significant number of jobs are being created, necessitating specialized skills in hospitality, environmental management, and sustainable construction. The training provided as part of these projects not only supports the immediate needs of the projects but also aligns with the long-term vision of creating a skilled workforce capable of sustaining and expanding Saudi Arabia’s tourism and hospitality sectors. SME Growth and Sustainability: In Saudi Arabia, adapting systems like the Kafala to encourage sustainable practices among SMEs, integrating sustainability criteria into government procurement, and establishing dedicated funding mechanisms for green SMEs are pivotal for the nation’s economic transformation under Vision 2030. This approach is complemented by several key initiatives and support systems. Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) acts as a crucial source of project finance and credit, especially in the industrial sector. It has been significantly supporting SMEs, with a large portion of its loans aimed at smaller projects. This effort
enhances access to credit for SMEs, enabling their growth and sustainability. The fund’s Kafalah loan guarantee scheme is another vital tool that has facilitated numerous SMEs, particularly in the manufacturing sector, to secure necessary financing. Collaboration is key in this endeavor. Facilitating partnerships between businesses, government, and academia is crucial for regional circular economy collaboration. The OECD recommends supporting capacity development within local administrations and businesses, focusing on innovation, partnerships, and financing. There is a need to provide practical, industry-relevant skills training, cultivating partnerships with industry and government, encouraging international collaboration, and aligning its efforts with Vision 2030’s targets. The establishment of an educational academy offering a range of courses and training programs is imperative. This academy would play a crucial role in increasing ecological literacy and supporting the transition to a circular economy model. In conclusion, by addressing these gaps and establishing a comprehensive sustainability leadership cadre, Saudi Arabia can not only meet its ambitious Vision 2030 goals but also position itself as a global leader in sustainable development and circular economy practices. This concerted effort toward sustainability represents not just a commitment to a greener future but also a strategic move towards a more prosperous and environmentally responsible Saudi Arabia.

T
he Kingdom of Saudi Arabia unveiled the master plan for Riyadh Expo 2030 during an official reception organized by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City in Paris, France on Monday, June 19, in the presence of delegates of 179 member states of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The plan aims to create an exceptional global experience in the history of Expos as it reflects the importance of Riyadh Expo 2030 and its positive role and embodies the exhibition’s central theme: “Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.” The Riyadh Expo 2030 will be held near King Salman International Airport, which is currently being developed, making it easily accessible for visitors arriving there. They can reach the exhibition site within
minutes by using the “Riyadh Metro” network, covering all parts of Riyadh city and connecting to one of the three exhibition entrances and the modern road network. The exhibition pavilions, estimated to be 226, were designed in a spherical shape, with an equator line running through them. This visual approach aligns with the exhibition’s vision, ensuring equal opportunities for all participants. The exhibition’s design reflects the ancient urban style, history, culture, and nature of Riyadh city. It also showcases the Kingdom’s shared concern with the rest of the world for the climate and its ambition to foresee a future full of potential. The pavilions’ locations for participating countries at the exhibition
will be flexibly determined based on their longitudes. Such design will bring together countries from the north and south of the globe side by side, symbolizing the Kingdom’s important role in facilitating global cooperation. This will facilitate visitors’ journeys and ensure easy movement between pavilions, public squares, cultural and innovation facilities, food services, rest, and waiting areas in a smooth and flexible manner while covering very short distances. Moreover, visitors to the exhibition will enjoy strolling through fully shaded corridors with designs inspired by Riyadh’s architectural heritage. In addition, visitors can stroll through a modern green oasis located within one of the tributaries of Wadi As-Sulai, which passes through the exhibition site. This demonstrates the Kingdom and Riyadh’s commitment to preserving and sustainably developing nature. In the same context, a prominent landmark will be built at the heart of the main plan for Riyadh Expo 2030, symbolizing “Responsibility for Protecting the Planet.” It will be based on 195 columns representing the number of countries participating in the exhibition. Surrounding this landmark will be three pavilions,
76
each representing the exhibition’s sub-themes of “Prosperity for All,” “Climate Action.” and “A Different Tomorrow.” The exhibition will also feature the Collaborative Change Corner (C3), an area that will drive innovation and creativity during the seven-year journey leading up to and beyond Riyadh Expo 2030. The C3 aims to showcase how collaboration among the smartest minds in scientific, social, and intellectual innovations can accelerate the changes that will shape our future. A member of the blueprint team for the Riyadh Expo 2030, Lamia Bint Abdulaziz, told BIE members, “The blueprint will work on developing a version of the Expo that is the most flexible when it comes to visitors’ movement at the site; and the most interactive, collaborative, and sustainable ever, and we will make sure to provide an exceptional experience for visitors to the exhibition. The exhibition will include international restaurants from around the world and live music performances,” she said.

She also said that the exhibition will include rich technical opportunities for cultural and professional development, adding, “We are planning to launch a participating laboratory in Osaka Expo 2025 and it will continue to help countries deal with recurring challenges in the preparatory period for Riyadh Expo 2030.”
The Kingdom has announced that it aims to make the Riyadh Expo 2030 the most sustainable and influential Expo ever, in line with its climate commitments to achieving carbon neutrality, a goal that is clearly reflected in the master plan for the exhibition that is linked to international standards of sustainability, including urban afforestation, the use of treated water, and the provision of new energy sources.
For her part, Expo blueprint team member Eng. Nouf Bint Majid AlMuneef said, “Our goal in the Kingdom is to organize the first environmentally friendly exhibition that achieves a zero level of carbon emissions. The Riyadh Expo 2030

GENESIS LIGHTS UP DUBAI STAGE WITH VISION FOR PERSONALIZATION & PERFORMANCE
Genesis announced its vision for the Middle Eastern region with its personalization and performance projects at the “Distinctly Yours” event, held Wednesday in Dubai. The event marked a significant milestone for the brand in the region, demonstrating its strong commitment to delivering a hyper-personalized and unparalleled luxury experience for its discerning clientele. Under the creative vision of Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer, attendees experienced the unveiling of two One of One cars, marking the first public showcase of the brand’s bespoke program. In addition to the exclusive One of One models, Donckerwolke also revealed three performance-based projects: the GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Performance, and X Gran Berlinetta Concept. These cars embody the fusion of emotion and dynamics, each representing varying iterations of the brand’s design philosophy of “Athletic Elegance.” The event brought together Genesis’ partners, VIPs, and media under the concept of “Distinctly Yours,” providing an immersive experience highlighting the brand’s dedication to the region while presenting its direction for personalization and performance. One of One’s Potential Realized in the Middle East The “One of One” name originates from the art scene, which refers to art pieces and collectibles issued as a single, unique edition. These pieces attract a higher value because they are one-of-a-kind editions with no reproductions. Genesis applies the same concept, making each One of One car an original piece that can be perceived as the most prestigious representation of Genesis. Genesis first developed the program concept as part of its progression to design authentic and original experiences for its customers, aiming to create a hyper-personalized service that customers could experience beyond the car. Guided by these goals, Genesis introduced the program to VIP customers with a private showcase in the Middle East in 2021. The brand’s careful yet focused approach served as an opportunity to inform the overall direction and potential of

the One of One program in one of the fastest-growing luxury markets in the world. At the event, Genesis reaffirmed its dedication to delivering the pinnacle of luxury to Middle Eastern customers through the One of One program’s dual-offering approach. The first option allows for a fully personalized vehicle, meticulously tailored to individual preferences. The second option is the special edition offering, where each edition is exclusively crafted to embody the brand’s philosophy as derived from various sources of inspiration—such as specific regions, artists, and events. These special editions represent the brand’s reinterpretation of specific themes while ensuring a harmonious blend of external influence with Genesis designs. The First One of One Model The first car revealed at the event was the brand’s initial One of One model, designed to demonstrate the program and scope. A G90 LONG WHEEL BASE with a two-tone exterior body in black and white, the car comes in a pearlescent paint finish that provides a
unique sheen. Meanwhile, its deep black paint coating features red metallic flakes to subtly match the red hue of the interior under sunlight. Red was selected as the interior color to symbolize the impassioned nature of Middle Eastern customers. The G90’s interior customizations were made based on both design and function to exhibit the range of possibilities Genesis can offer One of One customers. For the trim, a special type of white stone was used to set itself apart from the standard Genesis lineup. The rear seats featured built-in analog watches that display three separate time zones for the executive traveler. It also comes with a cooler along with a crystal carafe and glasses in the rear console. On the right rear passenger seat, there is a metallic plate that features the signature of Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke, who led the design of this specific G90. The One of One marking also extends to the headrest cushions and treadplates, which are revealed on the door sills—all of which can be replaced with the customer’s name or signature upon request. The First Special Edition The second car revealed was the GV80 Twilight Special Edition by Genesis One of One, the first special edition introduced by the bespoke program. Drawing inspiration from the mesmerizing hues and textures of Middle Eastern deserts, the term ‘Twilight’ symbolizes the convergence of two lights—as the sun sets and the moon rises—similar to the meeting of two cultures, the Middle East and Korea. 97
In addition, the brushed pattern perfected by Genesis’ proprietary painting technique is also designed to convey the undulating and sandy texture that express the traces of wind on desert sand. The car unveiled at the event came in a twotone gold and black exterior; the gold embodies the golden sand of the desert while the orange interior color depicts the orange-colored sky during sunset. Genesis designed another variant of the Twilight Special Edition that comes in blue and black—the blue represents the Arabian skies right after sunset. The GV80 Twilight Special Edition by Genesis One of One was created exclusively for the Middle East region and will be available in both colors, limited to 20 cars. Omar Al-Zubaidi, Chief Executive Officer, Genesis Middle East & Africa, expressed enthusiasm for the launch, stating, “The Genesis One of One Program represents a pivotal moment for us, aligning with our vision to deliver unparalleled luxury experiences. With the launch of our exclusive bespoke cars, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of luxury automotive design.” Athletic Elegance Driven by Performance Immediately following the unveiling of the One of One models, Donckerwolke switched gears to the three performance-based projects—all of which were in the energetic Magma color to denote the brand’s vibrant theme. All three models were marked with “Designed by Genesis” to signify the brand’s pride in introducing its high-performance vision. First unveiled in New York last April, the four-passenger GV80 Coupe Concept made waves by introducing a new facet to the Genesis brand by combining the practicality of a lifestyle-oriented SUV with the dynamism of a sports car. At the time, Donckerwolke had promised to “inject more adrenaline and fun into the brand.” 98
Referencing this promise, Donckerwolke presented the G80 Performance for the first time. He referred to the car as “the thoroughbred of the G80 family” and mentioned that everything from the design to the

aerodynamics and suspension were modified to enhance the athletic component of the car. Genesis partnered with companies known for their competencies
in increasing the performance capabilities of cars to achieve this. Donckerwolke underlined that the G80 Performance is “Designed by Genesis” and that the brand will release details on production, pricing, timing, and technical specs at a later date. The G80 Performance will be a limited series of up to 20 models and will be available in the Middle East with various options for customers to further personalize it to their needs and tastes. The final reveal for the evening was the X Gran Berlinetta Concept that was first introduced in Barcelona on Dec. 2 at the 2023 Gran Turismo World Series Finals. The concept car was created as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series and will be available to race in the game starting January 2024. As a concept born from a design study demonstrating Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series, the car perfectly embodies Genesis’ characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. On the unveiling of the three cars, Donckerwolke stated, “We wanted to showcase our commitment to delivering a driving experience that is both emotionally charged and dynamically vibrant. These cars embody the perfect synergy of performance and passion, providing a glimpse into the exciting direction that Genesis is exploring.” 99

The bold new look features a sweeping cockpit window design, with the indigo signature theme contrasted beautifully against a light unique iridescent fuselage that reflects purity and the future-focused vision of Saudi Arabia.

With a vision to shape the future of air travel, Riyadh Air unveiled its first livery at the Paris Airshow in June this year having previously received its IATA Airline Designator Code (RX) as well as signing a major deal for 90 GEnx engines to power its fleet following a significant order of up to 72 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners made in March. The super-sophisticated second livery will see Riyadh Air aircraft adorned in a lavender and indigo paint featuring a feather-like design near the rear of the fuselage, and ‘Riyadh Air’ written in English and Arabic and the airline’s trademark logo on the tail, engines, and aircraft underbelly. The second livery reflects Saudi Arabia’s forward-thinking ambitions using iridescent
color to add a modern twist to the innovative design, which along with intricate bold text, makes Riyadh Air instantly recognizable, whether on the ground or in the skies. Launched in March 2023 by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) Riyadh Air aims to become the world’s most forward-thinking carrier embracing the best sustainability practices, elevating air travel and setting a new standard for reliability, comfort, and hospitality. As a catalyst for the National Transport and Logistics Strategy playing a key role in contributing to Saudi Arabia’s wider economic diversification and jobs creation, toward realizing Vision 2030 goals, Riyadh Air is set to fly to more than 100 destinations, contribute to KSA non-oil GDP growth by USD 20 billion and directly and indirectly creating over 200,000 new jobs globally and locally. Tony Douglas, CEO, Riyadh Air, said the second livery is another statement of intent from the new airline, “As the largest start-up in commercial aviation in decades we are delighted to unveil to the world Riyadh Air’s second livery which will be unmistakable when it takes to the skies in 2025 as we become one of the first international carriers to have permanent dual-liveries on an active fleet.” “Following our initial launch in March we have had exceptional progress hitting a number of major milestones for the brand through an obsessive eye for detail, digital-native mindset and commitment to embracing the industry’s sustainability best practices. We revealed our first livery reveal to global acclaim, announced fleet orders for our wide body aircraft and signed several ground-breaking new partnerships. This iconic second livery is the latest milestone for Riyadh Air as we shape and disrupt the future of air travel and aviation, with many more things to come,” he added.
Alongside the much-anticipated unveiling of the latest livery design, Riyadh Air will be hosting guests, partners, stakeholders and VIPs at its 350sqm pavilion at Dubai Airshow. The digital-first experience will showcase more about Riyadh Air’s ambitions and future plans as it ushers in a new era for the travel and aviation industry, unlocking KSA’s most beautiful cultural and natural attractions and positioning KSA as a world-class logistics and travel hub. Additional highlights at Riyadh Air’s Dubai Airshow presence include: • With a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Riyadh Air and Lucid Motors at the Dubai Airshow, marking the first innovative partnership between luxury EV manufacturer Lucid Group and Riyadh Air aligned to a shared vision for the future of sustainable transportation exploring the collaboration across co-marketing, commercial and operational streams for targeted guests and travellers. • At the Riyadh Air pavilion, two Lucid Air cars are wrapped in the unique Riyadh Air livery while three mobilized Lucid Air cars will transport visitors to and from the Dubai Airshow.
