HELLO FROM THE NEW BOARD

Hey Beavers! I cannot believe that the next service year has already begun! Over the past service year, I have experienced what it is like to be a club PRESIDENT and have learned so much in the process. I aspire to utilize this knowledge to serve you all in the new service year! I look forward to being continuously inspired by the joy and passion you all express when at events and meetings! Yours truly, Daniel Clarke

My name is Esther Lee and as some of you may know, I was your past editor for the 2018-2019 service year and I’m so excited to now be your VICE PRESIDENT for the 2019-2020 service year! I am so excited to see what new things we can accomplish this year. As many of you have already heard, Key Club IS more than just a club. It is literally a community where a bunch of motivated teens with a heart to serve can do just that! It is amazing what one driven individual can accomplish, so imagine what a whole club combining as an international community can do to change the world. It is essential for everyone to work together and try to solve the issues prevalent in our society today, from the water crisis to mental health, and through your membership attendance at our various events, we can be the change we see in the world. Here’s to everything we can and will achieve in 2019-2020!

09

My name is Abby Borshchenko. I am currently the TREASURER of Midwood high school and the EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT to our LTG of division 9. This is my second year being an officer of Key club. Last year I loved being the treasurer. However, there were some things that I would want to do better such as, having more fundraiser to donate to more causes and have more members participate in events. My main goal is to make sure everyone from members to the officers have a great time and an amazing year. Because this is my second year as an officer I have more confidence and courage to make this club the greatest it can be.

Hello! My name is Shabraiz Malik and I'm your COSECRETARY 1 for the upcoming service year. One of my goals for the service year is to interact with as many members as I can. Before Key Club, I didn't really talk to anyone. But, as I attended more and more Key Club events, the previous Officers went out of their way to get to know me and it helped me a lot. Now, I want to do the same thing with all of you! I look forward to working with and getting to know you all this year!

Hello! I’m Alice, your CO-SECRETARY 2. I’ll be working with Shabraiz in the new service year to make your key club experience more fun, efficient and enjoyable. As secretary, I hope to be organized in completing all my duties. In addition to paperwork, I want to get to know more about you guys, the Key Clubbers, the ones who make Key Club possible in our school. Key Club allowed me to grow and develop the love for service and I hope this inspires as well. One little act of kindness can change the world and you can be the one to do that!

10

HELLO FROM THE NEW BOARD Hey Sharks! I’m Victor Zheng and I am your 2019-2020 WEBMASTER. I’m very excited not only in seeing what’s going to happen next, but also in seeing everything you guys will do this service year. As many of you already know, members are the the most vital part of Key Club. Without you all here participating in our events, there would be no Key Club. Last year I also served as Webmaster and I loved every second of it. However, I strive to make this year even better. I hope to be one of the ways you all have access to information for Key Club. I hope to actively update you all throughout the weeks to come and to hopefully do it in a way that’s fun and engaging. Just a random fact: I love listening to music, and I listen to a very diverse range of genres, such as Rap, Hip Hop, K-Pop, Lofi-Chillhop, Alternative, and Vaporwave. On another note, please don’t hesitate if you have any questions or concerns, even if it’s not related to Key Club. Keep in mind that I’m human, and although I might look scary to talk to, I’m up for a conversation about literally anything. Also keep in mind that while I may not be perfect (again, I’m human), on the inside, I try my best. I really can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us! Hi! My name is Yesenia Peregrina and I am honored to say that I’ll be your 2019-2020 EDITOR. First, I’d like to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication to Key Club. As your editor, I want to continue to inform each and every one of you on all the events that the club has taken part in. As a result, you’ll be able to see that Key Club has a large impact on many people throughout the community. You are the difference in the world and Key Club is just the start!

11

Hey guys! Im Yonnah and I’ll be the HEAD OF THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE for this service year. I am very excited and I can’t wait to take in the service year with all of you. This year I want to recruit new members with innovative ways that can really show people what key club is really about. We aren’t just any other club. We are a service club who love to give back to the community and help others any way we can. I can’t wait to take on the service year with you all.

My name is Yannah Rejouis and it is my honor to serve you as the HEAD OF SCRAPBOOK for this service year. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. This year I want to capture new memories and see you guys grow and develop over the next year. There is no better feeling than to help those in need and I can’t wait to share those experiences with you.

Hello Key clubbers, I’m Meghan and I am going to be the HEAD OF THE MEDIA COMMITTEE. I look forward to this year together and hope we create fun and memorable moments. I especially hope that we can share our experience not only with our club but with other students in our school.

Valentines Day Fundraiser FEBRUARY 13, 2019

15

I really enjoyed participating in the Valentine's Day Fundraiser. We sold cards, goodie bags, and homemade flowers! In terms of what took the longest, it was easily the flowers. First, I had to try to find the right sort of paper for the petals. Once I had those, then I had to look for nice stems that would go along with the petals. Once I had the materials, I began to fold the paper. Then, with the help of some of the officers, we unfolded all the papers and attached the stems. Finally, when the day arrived, I was a little nervous approaching people to the table to purchase what we were selling. However, I soon got the hang of it and by the end of the day, we sold everything! Afterward, we had a few deliveries, which I loved doing because of the drastic change the classes' atmosphere would change when I'd walk in. All in all, I really loved the event, even if it did take a lot of time and work to do.

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS

FEB. 16, 2019

17

TRUTHFULLY, MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EVENTS I HAVE EVER PARTICIPATED IN WITH KEY CLUB. AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE AT THE DOORS OF THE MANHATTAN CHURCH OF CHRIST, YOU ARE GREETED BY SOME MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH THAT YOU WILL BE SERVING LATER ON. ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE VOLUNTEER CHECK-IN AND ARE GREETED BY MR. GARRISON, YOU HAVE THE CHOICE OF HELPING PREPARE THE MAIN COURSE, SERVING COFFEE AND SNACKS FOR THE MEMBERS WATCHING A MOVIE, OR DECORATING THE DINING ROOM! NO MATTER HOW YOU CHOSE TO HELP, YOU WILL BE TRANSFORMED BY THE HEARTWARMING ENVIRONMENT CREATED BY THE CHURCH STAFF AND MEMBERS. DANIEL CLARKE

CLIMB TO THE TOP MARCH 3, 2019

Climb to the top NYC was an amazing event, where we got the opportunity to cheer on those who had walked up 1,215 stairs to advocate for people who are affected by Multiple Sclerosis! We were given Pom-poms and bells by the coordinators, as well as an orange shirt to demonstrate our spirit at this event. The event was short, and lasted for about an hour and a half. However, witnessing children, teenagers, and adults ascend a great amount of steps was inspiring, as it showed me that you can make a difference at any age, place, or event. Overall, this event was amazing, and I intend to be in attendance next year!

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS

MARCH 16, 2019

21

ALTHOUGH I’VE HELPED OUT FOR THE MANHATTAN CHURCH OF CHRIST MULTIPLE TIMES DURING OTHER MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS EVENTS, THIS ONE WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED. DURING THIS EVENT IN PARTICULAR, I HAD A MEANINGFUL ENCOUNTER WITH SOMEONE WHO HAD GRADUATED FROM OUR VERY OWN SCHOOL, MIDWOOD. WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS AND REMINISCE NOT ONLY ABOUT HER HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE EXPERIENCE BUT ALSO ABOUT LIVING IN THE MOMENT AND ENJOYING EVERY PART OF LIFE. THIS EVENT WASN’T AMAZING JUST BECAUSE OF HOW HANDS-ON IT WAS IN TERMS OF SERVING FOOD TO THE LESS FORTUNATE, BUT ALSO BECAUSE I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO HAS STRIVED TO BETTER THE COMMUNITY (AND PASSING IT ON TO HER SON), WHILE ALSO LEARNING SOME VALUABLE LIFE LESSONS. MARCH DIVISIONAL MARCH 26, 2019

As a member and club officer, the March Divisional was my first ever Divisional. Seeing everyone your age share the same passion and love for service as you do is very heartwarming and touching. At this month’s divisional, our main focus was to talk about the last details of the Leadership Training Conference since it was a few days away. Everyone was very excited to go. Besides discussing LTC, we got to see the people in our division who were attending LTC. This way, we knew who we were going with and who we will be sharing the bus with. This was also our Former Lieutenant Governor, Flora Tsui’s last divisional. Even though I have not been to the divisionals, I know it has been a great service year with her. She has done so much for our club and the rest of the division. However, we were introduced to our new LTG, Jaden Thomas who will bring even more service, care, and joy for our community.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING CONFERENCE MARCH 29-31, 2019

Leadership Training Conference, or LTC, is an annual gathering of Key Clubbers from all over New York to celebrate a successful service year and the beginning of a new one. This year's 71st Annual Leadership Training Conference was be held at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY.

24

LEADERSHIP TRAINING CONFERENCE

LTC WAS A REALLY FUN AND EDUCATING EVENT. I WAS ABLE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE. IT ALSO ALLOWED ME TO BREAK OUT OF MY SHELL AND BE MORE OUTGOING. DURING THIS I WAS ABLE TO LEARN SKILLS THAT WOULD BE APPLICABLE IN MY KEY CLUB CAREER AND LIFE IN GENERAL. ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTIVITIES WAS FOR BETTER COMMUNICATION WHICH BLINDFOLDED PEOPLE AND THEY HAD TO TRUST EACH OTHER TO BE GUIDED THROUGH DIFFERENT OBSTACLES. OVERALL, LTC WAS AMAZING AND I CAN’T WAIT TO GO NEXT YEAR.

MEGHAN STERN

BEING ABLE TO ATTEND LTC THIS YEAR HAS BEEN AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE. NEVER HAVE I EVER EXPECTED TO GO TO A LEADERSHIP TRAINING EVENT WITH FRIENDS. AT THE EVENT I TOOK PART IN COLLABORATIVE ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS DESIGNED TO SPUR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. FURTHERMORE, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BOND WITH PEOPLE THAT I OTHERWISE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO AT MIDWOOD BECAUSE OF SCHEDULE DIFFERENCES. ALTHOUGH THE WEEKEND WENT BY QUICKLY, IT WAS THE FUN NIGHTS AND EDUCATIONAL DAYS THAT MADE THIS EVENT ONE TO REMEMBER. ONE SPECIFIC ASPECT OF THE LEADERSHIP EVENT THAT MAKES IT UNIQUE WAS THE FACT THAT IT WAS ATTENDED BY ALL KEY CLUBS IN NEW YORK. ALSO, I'D BE CRAZY NOT TO RECALL THE TIME PLAYED THE MOST INTENSE GAME OF MAFIA I HAVE EVER TAKEN PART IN. I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND NEXT YEAR.
