Masks have a longstanding history, reaching further than simply carnivals or theatre. They represent metamorphosis, the transformation of one’s appearance to match the continuous change that governs what’s been created. It is no coincidence that during this particular moment in time, artists have been producing masks in multiform, and in Niki de Saint Phalle’s Giardino dei Tarocchi, located in Garavicchio, Maremma, is hosting an exhibition tracing the genesis of the French artist’s monumental work.
