| Editors Letter | Dear Morgan Knights, When we were kids we looked forward to the holidays. Thanksgiving for the table full of food and then running over to our friends houses and getting a plate of their food. Christmas for the gifts and seeing those cousins you don't get to see all year. New Years to see if the world is gonna end this year like the fake pastor said on that church channel. Now that we are older things seem different. Different things are important because our lives are going in different directions. Now we are the ones cooking on Thanksgiving and not sitting around wondering when the food is going to be ready. Now Christmas is more about giving than receiving and the New Years is about getting some sleep because you have to work in morning. But the one thing that hasn't changed and shouldn't change about the holidays is that its a time to share with your family. The time to visit those relatives you don't get to see all year because you are working, taking care of a family, traveling the world or just live a lot further away than you use to. Use the holidays as that extra time you wish you had in the day and spend it with your family, then when you had enough of them go see those friends that you are always saying "We need to hang out sometime and catch up." Enjoy the Holidays! Love,

The Morgan

Brick Squad Monopoly Artist Frenchie

Releases His New Single "I Do This for You" (featuring Chedda Da Connect) After unleashing his critically acclaimed Fukk Fame mixtape last year and his chart topping single "Ain't Goin Nowhere" featuring Atlanta's Hustle Gang representative, B.o.B and YMCMB signee Chanel West Coast. Greg “Frenchie” Hogan, an original member of Brick Squad Monopoly, Hip Hop Artist and label owner of Protekted Records releases his blazing new single "I Do It For You"(featuring Chedda Da Connect). To keep up with Frenchie on social media check out the links below: Twitter: @FrenchieBSM Instagram: @FrenchieBSM Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/ frenchiebsm About Frenchie From the gritty streets of South Jamaica Queens, to his critically acclaimed mixtapes like “Long Overdue”, “The Concrete Jungle” and his recently released EP “Fukk Fame”, Greg “Frenchie” Hogan, an original member of Brick Squad Monopoly, Hip Hop Artist and label owner of the recently

launched Protekted Records is a visionary who implements his amazing capacity for music in each and every masterpiece that he works on. A Queens native, and Atlanta transplant Frenchie, was exposed to the many hardships of his environment but was determined to succeed and not become a product of it. “To be honest, I grew up around a lot of ignorance. The older people that I looked up to, they were jackers; robbers. I was a part of it, too; but I always wanted more.” Frenchie displays a brutal honesty in describing his come up. Using music as a path to achievement, fourth-grade ciphers graduated to sixthgrade battles, and circumstantial yet pre-destined familial ties led to music as the only career option. “My family runs deep – my cousin Bimmy used to be an A&R at Def Jam, and DJ H u r r i c a n e – m y u n c l e – w a s the Beastie Boysʼ DJ.” Add that to the fact that Debra Antney is his aunt, and Waka Flocka is his blood cousin you see how Frenchie wasnʼt left with much

of a choice – succeed in music, or stay in the hood. A constant tour de force of videos, work, and tours, Frenchieʼs Internet presence is a sight to behold: a quick WorldStar search brings forth over forty self-produced music videos, and his YouTube presence includes videos spanning back several years, and millions of collective views. Showing no signs of slowing up, Frenchieʼs onslaught will continue with the release of his debut album, scheduled to drop this summer. The album will feature B.O.B, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Jerry Wonda, Migos, Yo Gotti and more. Having done features with a broad range of Southern stars (Juicy J, Project Pat, Yung Joc, Gorilla Zoe, Soulja Boy), family members (Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, Wooh Da Kid), and East Coast up-and-comers (French Montana, John Depp, Webstar, and t h e l a t e G . B a b y ) , F r e n c h i e ʼ s groundwork has laid a solid, universal foundation. Success is only a step away.

“Be excellent at what you do, the next step is winning” Written by: Denise Abrams Interview by: Fatiah Rebbekkah

She walked into Lumina 8 Studioʼs in Brooklyn, the essence of “easy breezy.” No pretense, a regular girl, and a true professional. Nicole Kulovany, Ms. New York, United States is the reigning Queen of New York, and she is a true New Yorker. She stands five feet six and is a natural beauty. Nicole was styled by our own Creative Director, Miss Fatiah Rebbekkah. It was no surprise when Nicole came on set in her first look (the white crop top and maxi skirt), she had easily transformed into an angelic beauty that made the

secession a breeze. We learned a few things about Nicole that day, one of which, she is not your typical “pageant girl.” Nicoleʼs background in modeling shinned through while she did the photo-shoot. We took a few minutes out to sit down with Nicole, to get to know her a little better. She was asked: Fatiah: What was it like participating in The Ms. New York United States Pageant? Nicole: The experience was awesome, it felt good, I got help from women I didnʼt know

very well, who were doing it longer. I never done it before.” Nicole would not however, recommend pageants to younger women. Nicole: I think you have to do it for the right reasons, I think a lot of times in pageantry they are doing it for their ego, and to prove something. That was disappointing...i think only if you have a good heart and want to do something good with it.

“People told me

every reason why

I should not enter the competition

“I’ve been winning stuff” I grew up in a college town... with a diverse mixture of people Like Sandra Bullock, in “Ms Congeniality,” Nicole is a girl that never did pageants before and she won! We are not surprised she is the complete package. Beautiful, smart and a people person, who has a lot of jewels to share. Although she never won a pageant before Nicole has won quite a few modeling competitions. Nicole: Iʼve been winning stuff She states with a big laugh. Fatiah: Whats next for Nicole Kulovany? Nicole: Acting!

Sheʼs not opposed to reality. We think motivational speaking, she has a lot to say, Nicole will like to do that as well, but not for just girls, she does not want to leave guys out she wants to encourage everyone. Nicole believes in hard work, she spoke about having friends who started businesses and how she encourages them to stay with what they have started. Nicole: Put your full effort forth in whatever youʼre working on, that matters to you. Be excellent at what you do. The next step is winning.”

Nicoleʼs father had just died when she won the Mercedes Benz Modeling Competition, Nicole: It was a triumph to win the Mercedes Benz, my father had just died, I was going through a lot of personal things. she recalls Nicole: I was told every reason why I should not do it, like my height, and my age. Fatiah: So whats next for Nicole Kulovany? Nicole: T.V. of course and sheʼs not opposed to Reality T.V. We think sheʼs got the look!

I’m not a “Pageant Girl” I’ve never done it before!

Celebrate the World!

Right now we in the good old United States of America are getting ready to celebrate three major holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. It made me wonder what is going on with people around the world.

Diwali

Chanukah

Los Posadas

Eid al adha

Kwanza

Someone on instagram posted a beautiful image of an Indian girl who was celebratinga Hindu holiday called Diwali. It sparked my natural curiosusity what else is being celebrated around the world. So, what is Dieali? ( Or, Deepawali, the festival of lights) jthe festival Spiritually signifies the victory of good over evil. Thecelebration is for five days. The festival is never complete without exchange of gifts.

So many of us are celebrating Chanulah this holiday is celebrated for eight days it is a Jewish hliday. Hanukkah (a different spelling) rituals include the lighting of the Menorah which consist of nine candles, on candle lit each night. The center candle is used for the lighting of the others.

This holiday origin is in Spain. This is a nine day celebration. Mostly celebrated in Mexico, Guatemala and parts of the southwestern United States. During this celebration a procession goes from house to house with a candle stopping at each house to pray. Ending at Church.

Also called the Feast of the Sacrifice. It honors the willingness of the prophet Abraham to ascrrifice his first born, Ishmael on God始s command. Families dress in their finiest clothes to pray at Mosque they aacrifice their best halal domestic animals as a symbol of Abraham始s sarifice. Everyone participates and partake in the holiday feast.

A week long celebration. Created by Maulana Karenga in 1966. From December 25th to January 1st ends with a feast and exchange of gifts. There are seven core principals. Unity, selfdetermination, collective work and cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. There is a candle-lighting ceremony with a Kinara.

While we are here in our homes with our family and frinds opening gifts on Christmas Morning or Christmas Eve, around the world Christmas is being celebrated in many different ways and on different days. Christmas in Spain includes, eating 12 grapes with the strokes of the clock at Midnight eaxh grape for a month of the coming year. In the Ukraine Christmas is celebrated ont he 7ht of January the use the Old Julian Calendar for their church festivals. Christmas in Egypt. Santa is called Baba Noel meaning (Father Christmas). For the 43 days before Christmas from November 25th to January 6th Coptic Orthodox Christians have a special fast they only eat a vegan diet. So enjoy your holiday and celebrations no matter where you may be in the world.

Manifesting the Abstract

One day, it all just hit me. I was sitting in my personal sanctuary with the fragrance of a fresh magnolia blossom candle burning. A cool breeze from the ceiling fan brushed my skin. As nature music filled my room, I felt like I was in a daze or vivid daydream. “What is the meaning of life?” I asked myself. Over and over, that question echoed in my mind. All of the cliché words of wisdom Iʼve heard from elders raced through my thoughts. Things like, “do WHAT you can, WHILE you can”, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”, and even “The distance between reality and your

dreams is actions and discipline”. Maybe there was a reason their advice overlapped. Maybe there was a reason I saw the same guiding principles in books and inspirational documentaries. I knew what they said made sense, but what did it mean to me?

those who discover their way as they go. I was the latter.

From an optimistic stand point, that left my journey open to adventure and creativity. I challenged myself to step outside my comfort zone completely. I put no limits on where I would go as long as it pushed me to At that time, I was at a turning realize my goals. I called this, point. I was a student at Salem “manifesting the abstract.” College. But when this road ended, what would my next step I started my road to discovery be? Some people find their by asking myself what I love chosen path early. You hear and do often. Travel! With that them say as kids, “I know what I being want to be when I grow up” and said, my abstract was living and they stick with it. But then there experiencing life outside my are native country, the United States of America. 27

MORGANCORNER NOV-DEC

By Chelsea Cherry

It has always been a dream to live overseas. When I decided to research how I could support myself financially while abroad, the path to achieving this dream became real. With the Internet, possibility is literally at your finger tips. The only thing that makes a desire abstract is not putting in the effort, grit, and tenacity to turn your vision into reality. I started by creating a vision board. The idea came from a Netflix documentary titled, ʻThe Secretʼ, which is also available in written form by Rhonda Byrne. As I searched through magazines for things that caught my interest, I cut out every item I wanted to accomplish no matter how bizarre it seemed. It was sort of like a visual bucket list with no boundaries. If an idea of what I wanted came to my mind and there was no picture for it, I would print one from the internet and post it. I placed this board in an area where I could view it everyday. This served as a constant reminder that subconsciously reinforced my goals. In the mean time, I researched information about the items on my vision board. Through this process, I came up with a more concrete plan. After making a few meaningful connections, along with being adamant about applying for all possibilities, options began to fall into place. Followed by a year long application process, inclusive of gathering major governmental documents for a position to teach english in Spain, I was left torn. I landed two great opportunities, but just had four weeks to make my choice. It was either off to Los Angeles to grow as a young business professional, or uproot and move to the completely unfamiliar in Europe. I had worked so hard spending endless hours, and sleepless nights striving after these goals. I was overjoyed that I was in this position, but i felt the pressure too. I wanted to make the very best decision for my future. Upon graduation, I made the decision to accept the international teaching position that waited for me in Spain. Arriving in this foreign country where I traveled to all alone seemed surreal. Just a few weeks before, I was viewing pictures of Europe on my vision board. Now, here I was absorbing the breath-taking architecture and scenic views first-hand. I was in awe of manifesting my dream, “my abstract.” But culture shock began to overwhelm me. Every day, I woke up and had to think in a foreign language. I learned that personal space

is an American concept (and nonexistent elsewhere). I faced bold questions such as “What is your salary?” and “How much money do you have saved?” The list of cultural differences and adjustments were vast. So what was my perspective of it all? Having the opportunity to experience life as a foreigner was amazing. I was able to note major differences and reevaluate life as I once knew it. I truly believe that there is a benefit to everyone experiencing what it is like being the minority in a situation. By minority I am referring to being the only one of difference within a group. This could be based on things like gender, race, age, language, and culture. Being the minority forces you to think from a different point of view as well as helps you empathize with others. While standing out every day as the “foreign lady,” I took it upon myself to adapt the best way I knew how, and that was through asking LOTS of questions along with making very close observations of everything around me. Fresh fruits and vegetables are made affordable for all in Spain. Theyʼre not over-priced to create the environmental racism that exists in the U.S. Dressing in exquisite clothing and eating as a family is a cultural must in Spain. Saving every bit of energy possible by cherishing the daylight and fresh air was the “go to” way to avoid using lights and dryers unnecessarily. Many of the day-today routines that were typical of a Spaniard really resonated with me. I experienced a full range of emotions during my summer living alone overseas. I proved to myself just how powerful the traits of ambition and determination are. That motivates me to move toward my next dream of being in a meaningful position; one that is inspiring, innovative, and influential. It doesnʼt seem as impossible as I once thought it was. Once you successfully manage things that are beyond what you could have ever imagined, you feel a sense of unstoppable success. I learned that the meaning of oneʼs life is what he or she makes of it. Everyone is designed with a special craft, talent, and gift. As I reflect on the advice Iʼve heard over the years and my experiences, I realize that if we don't use our gifts, we lose the opportunity to reach our full potential. I feel like Iʼm the one with words of wisdom now. That being said, put yourself outside your comfort zone, create a plan, work hard, believe you are able and manifest your abstract!

DEARLISA J

@DearLisaJ

Dear Lisa J, I have a friend that has a boyfriend whom she says she loves. Lately sheʼs been “talking” to an old friend that has been sponsoring her endeavors, she wants me to believe sheʼs not doing him. Please! Is this in any way a fact? --- Confused and Alone

Well Hello Confused and Alone, I see why youʼre alone. Maybe if you werenʼt minding your friendʼs business you would have the time to find your own man. Mind your business, if your friend says that they are not doing anything then believe her, thats all you can do. Itʼs her life, her body, and her relationships. There is nothing you can do, but mind your business. It reminds me of a situation I had with a friend of mine... I was dating this guy and I gained a new guy friend during our relationship, lets call that guy friend Bob. Bob and I had so much in common, made each other laugh and could talk about anything and we spoke every day. We also made sure to hang out once a week like clock work. Now my friend, she knew about all my guy friends and exactly what type of relationship I had with them, we told each other everything so I didnt understand why she did not believe me when I said that Bob and I were just friends, it was innocent. It made me not want to talk to her about certain things because she probably wouldnt believe me anyway. Look Confused and Alone, be there for your friend, donʼt judge and assume anything is more than she says it is, the last thing you want to do is change your friendship over an assumption of what is true. Just friends can sometimes be just friends. Just friends doesnt always last long but girl that is a whole other conversation. ---Lisa J
