PLATE 01
ASEANA MEDICAL ARTS BUILDING Located near the landmarks of Solaire Resort, Okada Manila, Marina Bay Homes, Mall of Asia, and Ayala Transpo Terminal, this project is an outpatient building for the soon to be General Hospital. This Medical Arts Building challenges the way we perceive hospital design as cold, terrifying, and muted.
The first step in my process was to zone the spaces required in the brief. I wanted to make sure that every room in the building, vegetation is seen. The plan circulates around the huge green space in the middle. The concept for this is placing the ‘Healing Space’ in the center of everything. I had one core for the visitors, doctors, and nurses and another core for the service and staff. Initially the parking space was to be in the second floor, but I made it in the ground floor so it would’nt be seen as well as it could be used for the general hospital The road network shows the yellow dash lines - service way, red dash lines- emergency way, pink dash lines- mab entrance.
EAST ELEVATION
The exterior is made of Concrete Louvers which are very convenient in the tropical archipelago like Philippines. The healing space is face by the highest point of sun path. The Southwest monsoon is blocked by trees and the Northeast monsoon is well received by the building. The building is in a corner lot by Aseana Ave. and Jose W. Diokno Blvd.

REFLECTION Im actually really glad I was able to finish this plate. I was able to ‘hide’ the parking ground area because I honestly think this is very unnecessary. Our country should ban Parking Requirements like what Toronto did, this is base on just government things and have no real data at all. What I did love about this plate is it somehow removed the hatred I had with hospitals. I was hospitilized during my high school with Dengue. I was there for 5 days and I really hated how the hospital looked like. Every day was just a suffering ngl. So creating this, with such a large healing space right at the center, it gave me this hope that for sure, the way we see and think of hospitals will change. I do hope that my fellow batchmates thought of changing the way we perceived the hospital. What I would have done in this project if I had more time was to focus more on the telehealth programs I place on the 8th floor. I wish I rearranged my layout more so it would seem like ever floor has the view of the healing space. I wish I was more creative in how I graphically expressed my plate. A collage would have been a great way to express this. I wish I had been more experimental, more creative, and more confident in challenging the brief. All my years in design class, we were taught to abide by the brief like it’s our holy bible. Design hasn’t been my favorite subject because it felt like a prison. The next plate however, was the best one I made.
PLATE 02
THE MOBILE HOSPITAL EXPORING MOBILITY AND TECHNOLOGY AS SOLUTIONS IN THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE AND HOSPITAL DESIGN “A hospital that goes to the people. A hospital that has no patients” The rising trend of mobility solutions adoption can be seen most prominently in the healthcare industry. Embracing these solutions have resulted in improved patient care and better experience. The future of healthcare relies on how well it can adopt these new mobile technologies. The future of the hospital is a network. This is our project.
On the first day of our consultation. We were told to search for a particular problem we see in the hospitals at the present. Jaycarl and I chose to look into how slow pace hospitals are to responses and lack in technology like telemedicine. Our solution to this problem is the root of our concept. We personally designed each of our vehicles. Initially we thought of trike ambulances, but its scale is a little too large. Our mobile jeepneys stemmed from traditional jeeps at first but people couldn’t stand inside it. Lastly, our mobile bus was replaced by just a mobile mini truck because the scale of a bus is too large and it’s one of the vehicles that congests traffic. In the facade, we finalized the material in the bubble to be etfe for a floating & luxurious feeling, and aluminum trusses on the general hospital for that industrial look.

The site is located in Pasay near the landmarks of City of Dreams and S&R. The site has access to Diosdado Macapagal Blvd. and Bradco Avenue and is near Aseana Avenue. The site is surrounded by minor roads. The traffic flow is relatively fast pace. PITX is located 2km away from the project site and will serve as the main connection for the vehicles to travel to Manila, Makati, Taguig, and Paranaque where there will be a sub-terminal for our vehicles to stay on duty.

The Bay Section shows how the etfe connects to the roof deck. According to our precent study in the Eden Project in UK where in their roof is also made out of etfe, they used ground anchors bolted by turnbuckles and anchor bolts. It’s also prominent that the docking area is shown and how the aluminum truss on the facade connects to the facade
REFLECTION Hands down this was the best plate I’ve ever done. This was also my first time doing a group plate, and I couldn’t have done this all without my partner, Jay Carl Estimo. What I loved about the second half of my first semester is I got to experience what real designing is. I learned to always think about everthing at once, how the section, elevation, floor plan, form, site analysis, and precedent studies should all come together and be rooted to our concept. I’ve always thought that doing design is like doing checking boxes but it’s trusting the process. I’ve been used to having the image of my building ahead of time because it was convenient and because I was terrified on how the form may come and I couldn’t do it on the software. This has changed my perspective on all of my deisgn plates and the design plates of my colleagues. We must always look for new ideas, innovation, and uniqueness to our plate. This plate isn’t simple innovative because of the telemed but how it creates a system. A system where people don’t have to go out of their houses and travel so far just to check up on themselves in the hospital. In terms of graphics, I’ve always pride myself for learning adobe photoshop, illustrator, and indesign and it was the first time a professor was open to different kinds of way of expressing our plates. Usually, profs would look for realism (plain render in lumion) and say it’s good. But our professor encourages us to be more creative. We are so luck to have such an open-minded and progressive professor. My love for design has renewed and I feel like I’m prepared for what may ome, especially on my thesis.
