Franklin Hill Vineyard is the oldest vineyard in the Lehigh Valley, They planted their first grapevines called Dechaunac in 1976 and officially opened their doors in 1982. It’s a regular spot for many locals, as well as a location customers travel to try. Elaine, the owner of this delicious establishment, takes great pride in her staff and all of the creative drinks and snack boards they create, making everyone feel so welcomed as soon as they walk in. They offer so many delicious drinks on the menu, from carbonated wine to frozen wine. Elaine and her team make sure everything they create at Franklin Hill is delicious and a new experience for all who come to visit. They recently celebrated their 40th anniversary and as a theme they brought the 80s back, where the customers came in 80s clothes, ate 80s inspired foods, and listening to 80s music, and even sold bottles of wine for five dollars to further make you feel like you were in the 80s. Elaine also offered tours to the customers who wanted to see and learn more about Franklin Hill. That's actually now a regular thing the customers can do if they would like, to tour this beautiful vineyard and relax and feel at home. Recently they ripped out the original Dechaunac vine that was planted 40 years ago and it was called a swan song, which means something ending. Elaine and her team started including non-alcoholic drinks for people to enjoy, as well as bringing back ciders and looking into creating new drinks. Franklin Hill makes everyone feel at home as soon as they walk in. They are making it a destination.

Smash Burgers with Special Burger Sauce

INGREDIENTS Burgers

By Kyle Naylor Rum Runnas/the indie Podcast

2 lbs* ground hamburger 1 lb bacon salt, pepper, garlic to taste American cheese 6 brioche hamburger buns pickles Burger Sauce 1/4 cup mayo

DIRECTIONS

SERVES 3-4

I think cheese and a hamburger would taste gouda together Burgers: Form your hamburger into loose roughly 1/4 lb balls. Place it between 2 sheets of parchment and flatten to about a 1/4" thick patties. (I use a heavy pan for this). Fry the bacon in

2 Tbs ketchup

a skillet, preferably cast iron, until desired crispiness. Reserve

1 Tbs dijon mustard

a small amount of the grease from the bacon to cook your

2 tsp pickle juice

patties. Get the pan smoking hot and place in your patties,

1 tsp smoked paprika

cook until a nice crust forms and the edges are nice and

1 tsp Tony Chachere seasoning salt & pepper to taste

crispy. Add cheese and cover 15 sec to melt. Butter your buns and toast in a skillet or under your broiler. Sauce: Mix all the ingredients well. Serve: Sauce the bottom of the bun, then place pickles, patty, bacon, then sauce top bun and crown your burger. *Makes 4 burgers

Pina Colada In a blender blend ice and pineapple. When mixed but still chunky, add the rest of your ingredients and blend until smooth. Serve in a poco grande glass or a hurricane glass with a pineapple wedge, a cherry, and an umbrella to garnish

1 ½ cups frozen pineapple 1 ½ cups ice 5 ounces aged rum 2 ounces cream of coconut 4 ounces pineapple juice 1 ounce lime juice

Makes 2 Servings

The oldest reference we have to something that resembles the Pina Colada, dates back to the 19th century Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí. It is said in an effort to boost his crew's morale he made them a beverage consisting of white rum, pineapple and coconut. Unfortunately we lost this pirate booty of a recipe with his death in 1825. This origin is highly debated by historians though. The accepted history is that in 1954 Ramón "Monchito" Marrero, a bartender at The Caribe Hilton Hotel, invented what we now know as the Pina Colada, and cemented its place as Puerto Rico's official cocktail.

Here’s an easy summer snack for kids to make! All you need is a jar, a couple of cucumbers, 2 teaspoons of salt, 1-2 tablespoons of fresh dill, 1 tablespoon pickling spices, and 1/4 cup of white vinegar.

Cooking With Kids

First, slice the cucumbers thinly and add to jar. Next, add the salt, dill, pickling spices, and pour in the white vinegar. Close the jar with a lid and give it a few shakes to help distribute the ingredients. Place it in the fridge for at least one or two hours, though they taste best after 6-8 hours. You can shake a few more times while waiting and are good for up to 3 weeks! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

2-3 thin sliced cucumber 2 tsp kosher salt 2 Tbs fresh dill 1/4 cup white vinegar 1 Tbs pickling spice
