THE NEWSVINE is published quarterly (first Sunday of January, April, July, October) by Revival Church, United Pentecostal Church, 825 7th Street, Modesto, CA 95354-3414. Any submitted articles to The Newsvine are subject to pastor’s approval and editing by The Newsvine staff.
A Word from the Editors happy 35 th anniversary, Newsvine Magazine!
WOW!
It was the fall of 1989 when The Newsvine ministry began as a one-sheet newsletter. Since then, our faithful staff has assisted these editors in bringing His story of blessing our church to the whole world. For three and one half decades, we have only touched the surface in stories and photos of all our Lord has done for us. None of this could have happened without our faithful church members creating spiritual events under the leadership of the pastoral staff. Pastor and Sister Johnson are to be commended for their spiritual and financial support of our ministry. We are all visionaries together for Christ's glory!

ALL CHRISTIANS NEED TO KNOW:
IF CHRISTIANITY WERE A CRIME, IS THERE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO CONVICT YOU?
It was a crime to be a Christian during the reign of the Roman Emperor Nero beginning in the year 64 AD when he accused Christians of starting The Great Fire of Rome that destroyed three fourths of the city. Many Christian families were arrested and brutally martyred in the Circus of Nero arena. They were fed to the lions and other wild beasts half starved for the spectacles. Others were burned at the stake or crucified. Evidence was quickly gathered to make the arrests - evidence that actually reflected a peaceful lifestyle of generosity, kindness and devout faith to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As the historian Will Durant said, "Caesar and Christ met in the arena, and Christ won!" Eventually the Roman Empire would succumb to Christianity and make it the state religion.
But what about all who say they believe in Christ and His gospel today? We are cautioned in James 2:19 (NKJV): "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!" The Apostle James said believing is a start to being saved. Just saying you believe does not distinguish you from others in the spirit world who are damned. He makes the anointed argument in this chapter that faith in Christ must display righteous works you perform that show you are justified by your faith. THAT is the evidence vital to your salvation.
We will present seven evidences that are essential to be gloriously convicted of being a Christian in the hypothetical worldly court of sin and evil. In John 15:19 (NKJV) Christ himself warns us: "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." Here are the evidences the reader can search his/her heart to identify being a Christian in this chaotic world:
EVIDENCE I
The Jesus Moment
When you followed the plan of salvation {revealed in a later evidence), and you were converted into Christianity, was it a profound moment where you felt changed, sometimes referred to as a born again experience? In 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) we read: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." Then in I Peter 1:8 (KJV) we read when you are saved: "ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory." It is what many new converts say today is "a Jesus moment" that definitely resonates in your innermost being, resulting in a life-changing experience. Your focus is now on God and His holy word, ready to serve Him by adhering to the full Gospel of Jesus Christ.
EVIDENCE II
True Repentance
At the time of your conversion, did you say you were sorry for your sins? Were you even specific in your confessions to God? This is a personal prayer to the Almighty, direct access to His mercy and grace. Hebrews 4:16 (KJV) says, "Let
"The Christian Martyrs' Last Prayer" by Jean-Leon Gerome, 1883
us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." You will have the desire in the spirit of true repentance not to be a slave to sin. You will be determined not to sin or perform evil acts as said in I John 3:9 (ESV) "No one who is born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed remains in them; they cannot keep on sinning, because they have been born of God." In Galatians 5:19-21 (NIV) we find sins to avoid: "19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." True repentance is not only saying you are sorry for your sins, but you will do your best to not subject your body and your soul to these works of the flesh. Betraying marriage vows, embezzling, lying, gossiping, revenge are examples that can jeopardize your salvation.
EVIDENCE III
Practice Righteousness
A Christian will profess his/her faith by living a life bearing the fruits of the spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV): "22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." A true Christian will bear these fruits daily through his/ her actions towards others, saved or unsaved. Christ gave us the Great Commandments mentioned in Matthew 22:35-40 (NIV): "35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” True Christians will make these two commandments their sacred duty to obey. Racism, hatred, deliberate
cruelty, selfishness, and hypocritical unbelief that God exists will forfeit your salvation. But the great blessing to practice righteousness is your prayers will be answered as said in James 5:16 (NIV): "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
EVIDENCE IV Church Attendance
" 24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching" Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV). This verse is bold and resolute; if you are to be seen in the eyes of the world as a Christian, YOU WILL ATTEND a church faithfully. As the early Christians did, you will have a pastor in your life weekly preaching the word of God to "spur" you on to practice love and good works. In America, there is a great falling away attending a house of worship. Too many say they are Christians and have never darkened a church door in years. No matter how much they say they believe, their children and grandchildren are coming up agnostics and even atheists. Families are destroyed when there is no moral compass for family members to follow. They are influenced by what they see on TV, movie films, popular music, and social media. Others become reclusive and avoid social contact outside their jobs. Suicides go up, divorce happens, and marriage is not an option for many in relationships and for those who have no prospect to marry. There is no fear or awareness that the Apocalypse is approaching and the spirit of antichrist is everywhere. The church will open your eyes by assembling with others of like faith who will envelope you with security and blessed assurance through prayer and spiritual support.
EVIDENCE V Giving
The practice of giving back to God a portion of the financial blessings He gave individuals and families was common since Old Testament times.
Christ said it must continue along with charitable deeds to one another found in Matthew 23:23 (TLB): “Yes, woe upon you, Pharisees, and you other religious leaders—hypocrites! For you tithe down to the last mint leaf in your garden, but ignore the important things—justice and mercy and faith. YES, YOU SHOULD TITHE, but you shouldn’t leave the more important things undone." One tenth of what the Lord blesses you with should be given back to God as Jacob declared in Genesis 28:22 (TLB): "and I will give you back a tenth of everything you give me!” Too many are stingy with Christ and His church. They will spend lavishly at casinos and buying tickets for sports events and concerts. But when it comes to putting something in the offering plate or writing a check to charity, the excuse is "ministers always want money and giving anything will make me go broke." God is watching how generous we are with what he has blessed us. There is power in the verses found in Proverbs 11:25: "The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed" and in Acts 20:35 where the Apostle Paul says: "And I was a constant example to you in helping the poor; for I remembered the words of the Lord Jesus, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
EVIDENCE VI
The Plan of Salvation
The initial point of a Christian's conversion begins by simply obeying the Apostle Peter's command in fulfilling the Great Commission Christ said before He ascended back to heaven after His resurrection. The Lord said in Matthew 28:19 (KJV): "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" And what is that name? Peter said on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:38 the full plan of salvation while revealing the name: "Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Anyone who says there are three persons in the Godhead need to accept what the word person means. All English professors and high school English teachers know the origin of the
word is persona, which meant in the ancient Greek and Roman languages a theatrical term used in their ancient dramas for mask or role. ONE actor could put on several personas to play multiple roles. Any ancient text that mentioned God was three persons in one simply meant he was three roles or manifestations in ONE GOD. Unfortunately, what was lost in translation through the centuries was the original meaning of person that changed from mask or role to individual. This has caused much confusion to the Christian doctrines of many churches. But doing what Peter said to do will clear the matter up. There is no confusion or misinterpretation when the plan of salvation is to be taken literally and not subject to historical interpretations and traditional practices motivated by the word trinity - a word NEVER mentioned in the Bible.
EVIDENCE VII
The Holy Ghost Experience
Peter said in the Plan of Salvation "You shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." In all instances mentioned in the Book of Acts of repenting and being baptized in Jesus name, those converted spoke in tongues. EVERY TIME! In the latter days the world has witnessed a great outpouring of this experience with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Almost every nation has had a Pentecostal outreach with millions experiencing this supernatural touch of the divine. The biggest critics and those who don't believe are those who refuse to even ask God for the experience. Historical bias and rejection prevails among many denominations who have lost members who have been filled with this phenomenal experience. Once a person has spoken in tongues that person can truly say it is GENUINE! This experience opens the mind, heart, and soul of the Apostolic Christian to new profound possibilities of miracles, healings, and divine interventions. It is the full revelation of what being a Christian is all about.
The verdict is in. If you stand convicted of several and better yet, all evidences listed above, YOU ARE GUILTY and on your way to Heaven, a true disciple of Jesus Christ!

Faithful Servant of the Lord!
"She speaks with wisdom and teaches with kindness. She opens her mouth with discretion, and on her tongue is the law of kindness."
Proverbs 31:25-26
Sister Joyce Jones and her husband Willie
Editor's Note: The Newsvine staff chose to feature Sister Joyce Jones in this 35th issue as she is an outstanding example of an elder who, although in her seventies, is still busy working for the Lord. She is a a deeply loved mother, grandmother, and spiritual mother to many in our church. Although she is of retirement age, sitting on a pew is not for her. It seems everywhere you look, there she is with a huge smile on her face and energy galore. Despite a bout with breast cancer in 2013, she determined in her heart to trust the Lord. "If I die, I win; If I live I win," was her mantra. Many years later, she rejoices that she still remains cancer free after her radiation treatments. Through every mountaintop and deep valley experience, she has not wavered in her faithfulness and dedication to serve. How does she do it? It is a determination birthed within her many decades ago. The following is just a highlight of this precious saint’s life. May it be an inspiration to all, no matter one’s age.
When Sister Jones was a young child, she remembered her evangelist father visiting different churches to preach, bringing his family with him. She remembered at the age of seven or eight her father preaching at a Pentecostal church. Her mother, who was very keen on prayer, made them all go to the altar. Sister Jones’ brother received the Holy Ghost that night. “I remember my brother was speaking in tongues all the way home from church.” When she asked her father what was wrong with her brother he said, “It is a very special gift that some people get.” Despite the brush with the Pentecostal experience, her family stayed firmly attending St. Matthew’s Baptist Church. “We were steeped in the Baptist church so none of that was nurtured,” said Sister Jones. “All I knew was the Baptist church.” By the time she graduated, she admitted that she was merely on the fringes of the church.
Oneness Pentecost came knocking on her door again when her younger sister, Virginia Walker, came home after visiting their brother in Vallejo. Virginia told Joyce that she wanted to show her something in the Bible. She showed her verses about baptism in Jesus’ name, explaining that the scriptures clearly indicate that everyone is to repent and be baptized in Jesus’ name. “I immediately saw it,” said Sister Jones. A week later she went to Elder Bill Yandris church in Merced, California, and got baptized. She did not tell her father about being baptized, fearing his disapproval. She started going to youth activities at Brother Yandris’ church while at the same time going to the family church. At this point she had not received the baptism of the Holy
Ghost yet with the evidence of speaking in tongues. After a while, however, she became busy working for Merced County and later the City of Merced and drifted away from church.
She met and fell in love with a young man named Willie Jones who worked for the post office. They were going to get married on a particular Saturday, but at the last minute, Willie got cold feet. The next day, he changed his mind and suggested they get married in Reno. Surprisingly, she said no. She told him, “We can’t. I have to go to church.” They ended up getting married that day by a friend of hers who was a hospital chaplain. He conducted the ceremony in the hospital room of one of her friends. Little did Willie, who was a secular man, know what he was getting himself into!
That very night, the newlywed couple attended services at Revival Church United Pentecostal Church in Modesto. Sister Jones prayed through after being backslidden for seven years. She remembered that the pastor, Randy Keyes, introduced himself and prayed for the newlyweds. “We postponed our honeymoon for God’s will,” she said. “I’ve never stopped going to church.”
Sister Jones immediately became involved in serving in the church. First off, she helped Brother Alvin Almond and his wife Paula, the church janitors, clean the church. Soon, she was a Sunday School teacher for the third grade girls under Brother Almond, the Sunday School Superintendent and later under Brother Gary Weems. Her experience as a teacher’s aide while working her way through college helped prepare her.
In 1996, she started teaching a combination class of 5th and 6th graders at Tuolumne Christian School in Modesto. “I was called by God,” she said about her vocation to teach. “I enjoyed it.” She demanded high standards from her students both in academics and behavior, always taking the education of her students very seriously. When the school later closed, she taught at a local Christian school.
Aside from teaching, her secular jobs included working for the Child’s Crisis Center in the office, being a group counselor at Sierra Vista Children’s Center, and later working for the E. Ross Clark Group Home as a group counselor which instilled in her a burden to minister to others. One of her opportunities to do so came by becoming a speaker at the county juvenile hall services led by Brother Michael Flores. Her impassioned words touched many a young heart.
For many years, Sister Jones used her musical talents singing in the choir, in duets and trios, and in a small women’s group. She recalls being part of an ensemble led by Sister Quigley, which Pastor Keyes would bring with him when he was asked to preach in nearby churches. In total, she sang under eight music directors since 1986.
Sister Jones was never one to be adverse to hard work, and so she spent many hours helping in various fundraisers for the church. From making and selling funnel cakes to assembling and gluing forms for Moore Business Forms, to hours working at Six Flags, she would faithfully volunteer. You could say that the desire to pitch in when needed was just part of the fabric of her life.
One of the unusual positions Sister Jones has filled in our church was that of usher. As usual, she saw a need for more ushers and approached Pastor Johnson for his permission. He probably was taken aback at first because the church had only male ushers; but knowing him, he must have been tickled to imagine people’s faces the first time she helped to pass the offering collection bag. It did not matter to Sister Jones, if something had not been done before - if there was a need, there she was.
Always one to jump in when there was a need, she started M&M’s (Maidens & Mentors), a ministry for young girls in the church. She noticed when they came back fired up from attending youth camp, they needed support to nurture their spiritual growth. She provided Biblical instruction, fun activities, and with a desire to teach them Christian service, Sister Jones brought them to minister in convalescent homes. She led this ministry for many years.
After faithfully visiting several of our seniors at Valley Comfort, a local retirement home, she was asked if she could start a weekly service there. After praying about it, she told the owners that she would do it. Since then she has ministered there every Saturday morning, and now sings and brings the Word to The Grove, their companion facility. She has been asked to conduct services now at a third convalescent home in Modesto, English Oaks.
Another area of service for Sister Jones is women’s ministries. It started several years ago when she was invited to join some senior ladies for lunch and their Bible study. She was later asked if she would take over scheduling their lunches. As more and more ladies joined the
group, Pastor Johnson asked her to drop the minimum age from 60 to 50. Thus the Mature Ladies grew and still continues to be an opportunity for these seasoned women to gather for monthly luncheons and an annual festive Christmas gathering. Her most recent endeavor is her involvement with S.I.S., Sisters In Seasons. She coordinates with Sisters Kim Johnson, Angela Warren, and Nancy Holston to host a series of Bible studies and special events at a spring ladies’ tea. And the list goes on and on. With all of these activities, one might wonder if her husband felt left out. Well, after nearly 40 years of her godly example and much prayer, Willie Jones became Brother Willie and has even followed her example, volunteering as a church usher with a broad smile that matches his matchless wife.

Revive Youth Week
Revive Youth Week is a concentrated focus on our junior and high school youth. Aside from the fun activities planned, they also ministered to some of our older members, visiting their homes to fellowship and pray for them. In addition to their Friday night Revive Service, they also participated in our midweek church service. Revive young people were in charge, including
the worship service and the teaching of God's word. We are thankful for the godly leadership of youth pastors Tim and Jeriann Montes. It has been a challenging year, but they have prayerfully and compassionately led our youth. May God continue to bless our youth as they hone their skills to become future leaders in the kingdom of God.

Heart of Worship clinicians and attendees gather for a group photo at Hope Church in Turlock.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Heart of Worship, it is "a worship conference for leaders, musicians, worshipers & the whole church." This year was one of their largest conferences, attended by Apostolics from across the nation. During the day, there were a variety of sessions at Hope Church in Turlock such as "Principles for Worship Leaders," "Worship Atmosphere and Content on Live Stream," and "Memorable Melodies & Strong Lyrics." There were also sessions in Spanish and a session on "Cultural Inclusion:
Expert Worship Sign Language Usage." In the evenings, there were powerful, anointed worship services at Revival Church in Modesto. Thank you to the HOW steering team of Sister Nancy Holston, Laura Payne, Kevin Howard, and Betsy Ruvalcaba-Christensen for bringing Heart of Worship to Modesto. What an informative, Holy Ghost anointed, and impactful conference! May this conference focus us all on the true heart of worship - exalting our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Young Adults Minister in Belize
In July, a number of our college and career young people traveled on a missions trip to the Central American country of Belize. There they met with missionaries Danny and Esther Becerra and their sons Luke and Levi. A special surprise for Sister Esther awaited her at the airport. She was thrilled to see her parents, Antonio and Gloria Gutierrez who are pastors of our Spanish-speaking services at Revival Church.
Our Young Adults got to work immediately. From making gift bags for a special children's service to painting the church in San Marcos to leading worship services to praying for those in the altar, they worked with unity and a determination to do their best for the Lord. In the week they were in Belize, they ministered in services in Bladen, Red Bank, Santa Rosa, Laguna, and Belize City. They are excited to report that during that week over 10 people received the Holy Ghost - six receiving this wonderful experience during the Friday night district youth service! Also, there was a tremendous attendance at the children's service in Bladen - over 80 children!
During a Wednesday night service after their return, several of our Young Adults were able to speak to the church about their experiences in Belize. Jada, deeply moved, said, "Belize is a country that captured my heart." Despite any challenges faced she emphasized
several times, "God still moved."
Next up was Lauren Hunt. She said that her experience in Belize, "gave me a new revelation of the worship ministry." She admitted that she is a perfectionist, and she learned that "the perfect worship set isn't what causes the Spirit to move."It is unity of mind and purpose and the prayer for God to touch everyone in the room.
The final Young Adult to speak was Noah Wells. He said that in any station of life, I know to praise God. "I live life with open hands. Whatever God places in my hands, it flows through."
Spanish pastor Antonio Gutierrez was the last to speak. "Unity is the key for the church," he said. "We all have to work together. Working together, we can accomplish many things."
Young Adults Pastors Chris and Lindsay Castro would like to thank all those who donated to make this trip possible and to all the local pastors and their families in Belize who showed such generous hospitality to our young adults. Thank you also, Missionaries Danny and Esther Becerra, for hosting and giving our Hyphens a taste for missions. God bless the Becerra family for their sacrifice and burden. Exclaims Brother Becerra, "There is an open door in Belize! It is harvest time!" AMEN!

Robert Martin
"The Other Things That Jesus Did"
He's sTill doing iT!
The church was truly blessed to welcome Evangelist Robert Martin back to minister. Using John 21:25 as his foundation, he highlighted that while approximately 40 miracles are recorded in the gospels, there were countless more that Jesus performed—so many, in fact, that the Apostle John wrote, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written."
But the miracles didn’t end with Jesus' death and resurrection. Brother Martin emphasized that the Acts of the Apostles could just as well be called the Acts of the Ministry of Jesus. “Jesus,” he declared, “is still at work through the Holy Ghost!” God continues His mighty work across the globe through His church. Since the Day of Pentecost, Jesus has always had a church—a vibrant, living witness somewhere on Earth.
Reflecting on the days when many churches held testimony services, Brother Martin noted how there isn’t enough time for everyone to share the miracles God has performed in their lives. “We all have a testimony of what God has done,” he said. “Everybody has one!” He then invited those in need of a miracle to come forward, declaring, “This is your time.” With arms raised and tearful faces, people filled the altar.
We are indeed blessed to serve a God who is still performing miracles today. He continues to heal the sick and deliver the bound.
Hallelujah!

Children, Our Precious Treasure!
Before each school year begins, Pastor Johnson dedicates a special moment during Sunday service to pray for our students and educators, asking for God's physical and spiritual protection over them. These young lives represent the future of our church, and it is our responsibility to nurture and prepare them to withstand the world's influences and boldly uphold the gospel message that the apostles preached. How do we prepare them? It starts at home— by praying with them, teaching them the Bible, and modeling godliness in our own lives. Then, we ensure their involvement in church, from participating in KREW as children, to being engaged in REVIVE during their junior and senior high years, and as young adults, encouraging them to join Hyphen, our college- and career-age group, where they can continue to grow
in their faith.
Do everything within your power to protect your children’s hearts and minds from ungodly influences. Consider enrolling them in Bible quizzing, a valuable program that not only plants God's Word deep within their hearts but also fosters dedication, self-discipline, and resilience.
These young people are our treasure, a precious gift from God, and our responsibility. Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children" (Matthew 19:14, NLT). And Proverbs 22:6 (NLT) reminds us, "Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it."
May God bless our children, youth, and educators. Jesus, we entrust all of these precious ones into Your loving care.
Our Bible Quizzers
Article by RC Bible Quizzing Director Joshua Williams
The past Bible Quizzing year culminated in countless memories that will last our quizzers a lifetime. From countless hours spent learning and memorizing the Word of God, to practices on Sundays that challenged our grasp of the nuances and techniques of quizzing, to spending long days on Saturdays quizzing at tournaments throughout the quiz season. This year, our kids learned an important book in the Bible, the Book of Acts. A fundamental book that establishes foundational principles on who we are in Christ. Our Beginner quizzers learned 170 and our Juniors learned 265. This past July 20th-25th, our Junior team qualified
and represented not only the Western District of California, but Revival Church on a national stage at the North American Junior Bible Quizzing Tournament in Branson, Missouri. Our Junior team won 3 games and lost twice. Although our Junior team didn’t win it all, they left the tournament with memorable memories that will stick with them forever.
From the plane ride, quizzing against some of the best quizzers in the nation and Canada, to enjoying fun activities and food, the excitement on their faces tells the whole story.
From Pastor and Momma Johnson, Pastor Jon and Sister Ashley Quinones to the amazing coach-
Our Junior Bible Quizzing team of Jazzy D'Aquino, Naomi Salazar, and Melanie Walls pose with North America Junior Bible Quizzing Director Terry Marshall after competing in Nationals in Branson, Missouri.
Compete at Nationals!
es Jessica D’Aquino, Linda Salazar, and Mariela Walls: Jazzy, Naomi Melanie, Revival Church is so proud of your hard work, dedication, and commitment to God’s Word. Our forever settled prayer for you stems from Psalms 119:11: "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
We love you, we honor you, and we celebrate with you. Thank you to the coaches that sacrificed countless hours investing in our young people. You may not feel or get the recognition for the work you put in but just know you are making an eternal difference in the lives of our kids. Your investment and your sacrifice impacts the decisions and direction our kids go down. Thank you, coaches!
Along with all the excitement of competing against the best Bible Quizzing teams in the United States and Canada, there was still time to try out their skills at Laser Tag (above) and to visit WonderWorks (below), a special place that combines fun and education with over 100 hands-on exhibits.

Young Adults tAke over Midweek
On a Wednesday night in August, our Young Adults led by Chris and Lindsay Castro, took over the service from leading worship to bringing the Word. They ministered with passion and anointing. We are blessed at Revival Church to have such a dedicated group of college and career young adults who are actively involved. Many of them sing or play on our worship
team, use their skills supporting our media teams, serve on the greeting team, and in other areas as well. They are a vital part of our church, and we are so proud of them, not only for their church involvement, but also their sincere passion to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. May God continue to use them as they seek out God's will for their lives.
Our Young Adults worship ensemble leads the congregation in singing "I Will Bless the Lord" during a recent Midweek Service in which they took over the entire service.
Left: Young Adults pastor Chris Castro introduces the young adult speakers for the night: Ignacio Solis, Jayne Campbell, and Jocelyn Powell. Lindsay Castro prays with young people at the altar.
"Kill the Serpent"
Ignacio Solis was the first speaker of the evening. His topic was on killing the serpent when it attacks. "The devil," he said, "attacks you when you are at your lowest." Using Acts 28:1-5, he related the story of Paul who was shipwrecked after a terrific storm. While he was placing wood on the fire for warmth, he was bitten by a venomous snake. Just like Paul was attacked, the devil attacks us when we experience storms in our lives. There is a difference between storms and serpents. Storms affect the whole family; serpents, one person. He knows when we are vulnerable. We need to follow Paul's example and shake off the serpent when he attacks.
"Faith-Dependency"
Our next speaker was Jayne Campbell who spoke on faith. "If it is not changing us," she said, "what's the purpose." A self-proclaimed WW2 history buff, she spoke of the faith in action of Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch citizen, whose efforts helped to save around 800 Jews. Although Corrie was a Christian, she and her family put their lives at risk to hide and help smuggle Jews to safety. Eventually, she was reported and the family was arrested. Corrie and her sister were sent to a concentration camp. While there, suffering unthinkable conditions, Corrie kept her faith and witnessed and prayed for the other internees until she was released. How was she able to do this: faith! "Faith is the glue that holds everything together," said Jayne. "Faith will be the anchor in your life."
"Chosen & Called"
The final speaker of the night was Jocelyn Powell. She shared a portion of her personal testimony. It was heart-breaking to hear her tell of her parents' divorce and the impact on her life. She thanked those who were sensitive and encouraged her as she struggled through her trauma. She said she made it through because of a "church family that was being what God called them to be - the hands and the feet of Jesus." She went on to say, "We are all called to love as He has loved us. We are all called to be vessels He can flow out of." She said it does not matter what season of life you are in, God is not done using you. "We are not called just to sit on a pew," she said. "God has given us each unique giftings and testimonies to reach the people around us."

Frankie Taylor "The Power of Present"
Frankie & Karina Taylor
We were excited to have the Taylors back with us at the end of August. They were featured church planters during our 2023 Missions Conference. Pastor Frankie Taylor and his wife, Karina, pastor Victory Life Church, a thriving congregation in Banning, California, and have recently been asked to pastor another church 40 miles away in Palm Desert.
"The Power of Present" was Brother Taylor's sermon topic. Using Hebrews 11:6, he began by speaking of God's faithfulness, and then focused in on his main point: you have to show up, to be present, when God is moving. "God's faithful nature," he said, "draws Him to faithful people." He said no matter what, we must be faithful. "When God is in the room," he said, "anything is possible!" He reminded the congregation that there does not need to be many people gathered, just two or
three, for God to show up. "God showed up," he said, "because you showed up."
Faithfulness is birthed out of desire, he said - a desire that Jesus equated with hunger in Matthew 5:6: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled." We are able to be faithful when we have a hunger, a thirst, for the presence of God.
After Jesus was crucified and Judas committed suicide, the disciples drew lots to choose a twelfth disciple. It was important to them that they chose someone who had been with Jesus since the beginning to be a witness of His resurrection; someone who had been present. God is not looking for perfect people. He is looking for people who are faithful, who are present. God help us to be ever faithful.
Prayer Workshop
"Four Lanes oF Prayer"
Reverend Joshua Aguilera speaks on the prayer lane of intercession during a recent workshop on prayer at Revival Church. He and the other members of the RC Prayer Committee encourages all to get "plugged in."
Near the end of August approximately 90 people attended the one-night workshop on the "Four Lanes of Prayer" presented by the RC Prayer Committee of Reverend Dana Le'Blanc, Elder Bob Evans, Barbara Seah, Ashton Espinoza, and Reverends Joshua and Jeannette Aguilera. They used the dynamic teachings on the topic by Raymond Woodward. Brother Woodward is the bishop and teaching pastor of Capital Community Church of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and has preached the Word of God worldwide. Also used as a resource was Verbal Bean's book on Prayer. Brother Bean, who was killed in an auto accident in 1977, was an Apostolic evangelist and preacher known for his deep devotion to prayer.
The evening started out with a time of light refreshments and fellowship, followed with a time of worship. Lessons were taught by Barbara Seah (Prayer), Jeannette Aguilera (Supplication), Joshua Aguilera (Intercession), and Bob Evans (The Giving of Thanks). "God wants us to know Him," said Brother Aguilera, "and to know how to approach Him."
The committee is currently working on another prayer workshop in the near future, and is encouraging all RC members to start the discipline of making Mondays about prayer. "Now is the time for us to come together for prayer more than ever," said Brother Aguilera. "Now is the time to see revival, but it starts with PRAYER!"
Reverend Jeannette Aguilera teaches on the prayer lane of supplication.
Reverend Bob Evans speaks on the importance of the giving of thanks.
Reverend Joshua Aguilera leads the group in a time of prayer.
Tim Gaddy "Supernatural Power of God"
"If there is an impossibility, we are worshiping and serving a God who laughs at impossibility."
"We receive miracles because we Ask and Believe."
"When God shows up on a Sunday morning and performs a miracle, it is not the suspension of natural order, but it is the restoration of the way God intended it to be when He created mankind."
"He can touch anybody. He can touch any mind. He can life any spirit. There is nobody like Jesus. He is a miracle working God!"
"Natural
laws do not stop the power of God. Diagnoses do not stop the power of God! A miracle goes beyond what the doctors say..."
Abide MJC Campus Ministry
R eaching
WORecently,
Young Adults Pastors Chris and Lindsay Castro asked Sister Chloe Espinoza to head up a campus ministry at Modesto Junior College. The UPCI has a ministry called Campus Ministry International that provides resources to local churches to support them to outreach to local college and university students. With the help of many of the other young adults, Chloe kicked off Abide, with their first campus social, complete with pizza and coffee, and a fierce game of vol-
leyball! Around 150 students stopped by, with 25 signing up for this exciting new campus ministry. Weekly meetings on Monday nights will feature Bible studies, worship, and special events and activities. Like to help? See Sister Chloe to volunteer of your time and finance. May God richly bless Chloe's efforts as she offers spiritual support to MJC students, who face many questions and challenges as they prepare for their adult lives.
Feed the Body, Feed the Soul Bible Study
Pizza, homemade macaroni and cheese, spicy chicken, and warm peach cobbler were just a few of the yummy dishes at the September home Bible study at the home of Leo and Virginia Aguilera Brother Aguilera came up with the new name for the group when it switched to monthly themed potlucks, in addition to diving deep into the Word of God. Above the group enjoys their feast before moving inside for the Bible study. Member Sister Hilda Rochester sent a text to the Aguileras afterward to say: "Thank you so much for opening up your beautiful home and sharing your wisdom/knowledge with us. It's always intriguing and the food and fellowship is also a treat!"
Mature Ladies italian repast
Our Mature Ladies Life Group, led by Sister Joyce Jones, enjoyed a time of fellowship at Olive Garden in Modesto. It was a wonderful time just delighting in each other's company and the delicious Italian food. We appreciate Sister Jones organizing these monthly gatherings, each time at a different restaurant. Not only do the ladies get to try different cuisines, they share laughter and words of encouragement. You are never too old to celebrate in the blessings of sisterhood.
BUFF men say 'take me out to the ballpark!'
Our BUFF men, led by Herb Jenkins, had a great time in August watching the Modesto Nuts baseball team play at John Thurman Field in Modesto. Approximately 30 men attended and feasted on BBQ shredded chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, pasta salad and all you can drink water and sodas. Veronica, the general manager, brought them all churros to encourage them all to come back next year. "We got to watch the Nuts win," said Brother Jenkins, "and go on a run to win back-to-back league titles! A great evening of food and fellowship!"
KREW KIDS
We love our RC kids! It is our desire to plant the Word of God deep within their hearts, and we are thankful to our KREW and guest teachers who volunteer their time and energy to this vital ministry of our church. Pictured on the previous page (top), Sister Eleanor Lira poses with our RC kids, (below) Sister Rene Vargas is with the older KREW kids. On this page, Sister Hailey Torres teaches a lesson and energizes the children with a fun Bible-based activity. Thank you, KREW Director Sujey Diaz, and all our wonderful teachers.
Heartquake
Brian was striding through the school cafeteria, trying to snag a seat next to a girl he wanted to impress, when he slipped on a wet spot and landed right in his tray of food. The entire cafeteria started clapping and catcalling. Red-faced, Brian quickly limped from the building, leaving the food mess where it lay.
Years later, Brian's wife never understood why her husband refused to eat in a cafeteria and became angry when she suggested it. Shame and mortification had seeped into his heart: tiny crevices that ran deep, like fault lines that form a fracture inside the earth's crust.
Fault lines result in displacement and loss of continuity of the rocks on either side of it. Sometimes stress and pressure build up, causing the rocks to slip and slide along the fault, and an earthquake results. Hidden hurtful fractures in our hearts threaten our stability and peace of mind the same way.
Fault lines can change the way we look at ourselves. Many of us speak internally to ourselves in cruel ways that we would never dream of uttering aloud to another person. "I'm not good enough." "I'm stupid and useless." "Nobody likes me." Often our self-talk mirrors words spoken to us carelessly years ago by siblings or classmates.
Jesus told us to love our neighbor as ourselves. But many of us hate ourselves and then wonder why we struggle to love others, even after receiving the Holy Ghost. When we make a mistake and fail, we refuse to forgive ourselves long after God has forgiven us. Then we wonder where are the peace and joy that God promised would be so abundant.
God wants to transform our splintered and broken hearts and bring us into wholeness and harmony with ourselves. The first step is to get gut-level honest with God about what's going on inside. Bare all before Him, and let Him sort it out. His love is enough to fill the cracks and crevices deep inside and stop our hearts from quaking.
The Potter
(written by Andrae Crouch)
The Potter saw a vessel broken by the wind and the rain. And he sought it with so much compassion to make it whole again.
Oh, I was that vessel that no one thought was good, I cried, "Lord, You're the Potter, and I am the clay. Make me over again today."
Then God picked up the pieces of my broken heart, that day. And made me a new vessel, And revived my soul again.
Rally Night
How do you help to motivate, energize, and unite a diverse group of volunteers in order to achieve the vision of RC of love, grow, serve, and generosity? Well, you have a quarterly Rally Night, of course. Led by Pastor Jon Quinones, each ministry is represented including Music, Media, Sound, , Creatives, Fundraising, Youth Adults, Revive, and many more departments. Department heads submit a Ministry Recap form quarterly, detailing event attendance numbers including guests, W's (wins), and things to improve. An example of a W for the last Rally Night was the start of a new campus ministry at Modesto Junior College. A summary is presented on rally night and the group celebrates the wins together and improvements are discussed. Rally Nights have been a great tool to help ministries feel valued and supported.
What does a Rally Night look like? It starts with a fun ice breaker to well, break the ice. It is followed by
a short leadership talk by Pastor Quinones. Then the wins for each ministry are celebrated, followed by areas of improvement. For example during the last Rally Night, new security procedures were discussed. Next, important dates for the upcoming quarter are shared and explained. To cap each Rally Night, there is a time of fellowship and refreshments. Love those root beer floats and ice cream sundaes! I almost forgot, each Rally Night usually has a dress-up theme. This past Rally's theme was "Favorite Character." Crazy Fun! There are LOTS of opportunities to serve at Revival Church for all sorts of skill levels, so let's all get involved somewhere. When the Lord comes back, may He find us all busy in His kingdom. Amen!

Sneaker Sunday"It's Gotta Be the Shoes!"
In July, Modesto was hit with a two-week heat wave with temperatures above 100 degrees. It was on one of those days that Pastor Johnson decided to do something a little different to help us cope: Sneaker Sunday. Members were encouraged to wear whatever church T-shirts they had in addition to a pair of their favorite sneakers to service. Talk about popular! From the youngest to the oldest, all were delighted to wear comfy
shoes to church. The church also had a drawing for two visitors to win a gift certificate for a pair of sneakers. To top off the day, the church had an ice cream truck out in the parking lot, which on the steaming hot day it was, proved to be a big hit. Below, Pastor Johnson commends Elders Jerry and Andrea Powell for getting in on the fun. "Church should be fun!," exclaimed Pastor Johnson.
What Does the Bible Say About BAPTISM?
Note - The Book of Acts is a record of the practices of the disciples and the Early Church. The books after it are letters written to believers who were already baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Is Baptism Even Necessary? Isn’t it enough to believe or accept Jesus as my Savior?
Acts 2:38 (ESV): “... repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins....”
Mark 16:16 (ESV): “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
1 Peter 3:21 (ESV): “Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience....”
Why should I be baptized by submersion? Can’t I just be sprinkled?
Colossians 2:12(ESV): “... having been buried with him in baptism...”
Romans 6:4 (ESV): “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death....”
Note - The Greek word for baptize (baptizo) means to fully immerse. The two verses above compare baptism to burial, which means to fully cover--not sprinkle.
I was baptized in the names Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. What’s the big deal about being baptized in Jesus’ name?
Acts 2:38 (ESV): “... repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins....”
Acts 4:12 (ESV): “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Matthew 28:19 (ESV): “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit....” Note: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are titles, not names!
Colossians 3:17 (ESV): “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus....”
What are some examples in the Bible of people being baptized?
Acts 2:41 (ESV): “So those who received his word were baptized...” (The 3,000 who were baptized on the Day of Pentecost)
Acts 8:12,13,16 (ESV): The Samaritans were baptized after hearing Philip preach.
Acts 8:36-38, Ethiopian eunuch baptized
Acts 9:18 & Acts 22:16 - Baptism of Paul
Acts 10:48 - Cornelius, a Roman centurion was baptized.
Acts 16:33 - Jailor of Paul and Silas baptized
Acts 18:8 - Corinthians were baptized
Acts 19:5 - Ephesians believers baptized
Matthew 3:15 Jesus’ baptism
As the eunuch asks Philip, “What prevents me from being baptized?” (Acts 8:36 ESV)
Baptized in His Name!
They all started out as Lamberts when they were young siblings raised by godly parents, and today Sister Taylor, Sister Winter, and Brother Lambert are still living for God, all baptized in Jesus' name according to the doctrine on this page. May the young person in the above photo being baptized also enjoy a long Apostolic life.

WUPCI General Conference 2024!
ith incredible preaching and worship, this year's UPCI General Conference took place in Long Beach, California. It is estimated that approximately 14,000 Apostolics across the world attended the fourday conference. It began with the Global Missions Service Tuesday night preached by Rev. Adam Hunley, general director of UPCI Global Missions. North American Missions was the focus of Wednesday night with speakers David McGovern, Donny Willis, and Art Wilson. On Thursday night our General Superintendent David K. Bernard (above) preached an inspiring message stressing that signs, wonders, and miracles should accompany the preaching of God's word. Fri-
day night culminated with the theme "Signs, Wonders, Miracles, Gifts of Holy Ghost." Speakers were Doug Klinedinst, Daniel Ramos, and Joel Urshan. During each day there were a myriad of sessions, including this year's' election of officers. Also a baptism tank was available throughout for anyone who chose to be baptized (above). Overall, it was a tremendous gathering, celebrating what Jesus Christ has been doing around the world in the past year, and instilling excitement and faith for the future. We commend Elder Bernard, his staff, and the General Board, and all who were involved in the planning and administration of this great event. Jesus Christ is alive and His kingdom is on the move!
