A Word from Your Co-Historian: Theodora Winter Hello everyone, from your fellow Co-Historian! I’m so proud of everyone for such a great start to the season! We already have state qualifiers and NIECTOC qualifiers! This team has really grown over the past couple of months. I also wanted to give a special shout out to all of the novices who have really put in work. Just be patient and you will see the changes in your performance! It can be really tough competing your first year, so I commend all of your efforts. Hopefully everyone has gotten adjusted for competition season, it’ll be over right before you know it so cherish these moments on the team and set goals to achieve for your partners and you! I am confident that all of us will continue to have a great season. Debate Workshop December 5th
Ready for Creekview On Friday December 5th, the Garland Varsity Speech and Debate Team had a workshop to prepare for Creekview the next day. We first started out the workshop by forming our newly made teams (Shout out to team victory!) and worked on getting everyone ready for the next day. It’s always great to get a fresh pair of eyes on a performance, even if a debater is watching a D.I. and an interper watches an extempt round. We may not be the most qualified to help each other, but each critique counts. (Plus there have been many times where C.X. judeges judge D.I. rounds for some uncanny reason so I like to think that we prepare everyone for all types of people). Afterwards, we made awesome team chants for each team. Although Team Victory clearly had the best chant , the other teams were also pretty creative, not gonna lie. I hope everyone enjoys being on their teams and engaging in a little healthy competition (remember, we’re still a family, we’re just now a family that wants to beat each other.) I hope that you guys take that competitive spirit to earn the most points for your team and apply it to your competitors at actual tournaments! We finished off the night with fun interp games, which are always fun to watch. My personal favorite is “Yes, let’s” because I’ve seen all kinds of weird scenarios acted out like going into labor, acting as a double agent, acting like a worm that’s getting fried, etc. Even though these games may seem a bit whack, it’s always nice to know that you can act like a complete fool around your team mates and we won’t judge you cause we’re that awesome. I hope all of you remember that you can let loose and do weird stuff around me whenever you want because we’re family and that’s what we’re here for! I hope everyone had fun at the workshop, I definitely did! Be sure not to cry too much when Team Victory beats all of you guys and remember to take that same competitive drive into rounds! It was fun, let’s do it again some time! Till next time,

Michael has discovered a new way to capture H.I. judges’ attention. They definitely won’t forget him.
Because are you really African if you don’t have your face plastered onto a lion?

Non-Denominational Holiday Party Starting of Winter Break with the greatest people!
Non-Denominational Holiday Party Our holiday party is something I always look forward too, and this year it didn’t disappoint! Everyone always brings great food and even greater entertainment. Seriously though guys, if you don’t go for anything else, go for the food. Sarah, Wynston, Liam and Michael’s mom’s cooking along is enough motivation to attend. Their food always gives me the feels. So be sure to go next year if you can. Although we usually play mafia as a tradition, Liam’s brother introduced us to a new game that his colleagues and him made called “Two Rooms and a Boom” and it was even cooler than Mafia! The great thing about such a large team is that we can play lots of great games together that you can’t do at home by yourself while watching Netflix. I think the best part was surprising Mrs. Martens with gifts for the new baby! We definitely pulled off a memorable White Elephant!
We love you Mrs. Martens and we’ll miss you very much!
