Trinity Fellowship: A big church campus with love to spread around By John Lee
jclee@thepampanews.com Twitter: @jcl1987
Trinity Fellowship, located at 2225 N. Hobart Street, is one of eight campuses in the region stretching as far as Decatur and Lubbock. Campus pastor, Mike Borger, has been at Pampa’s location for four years after raising his family in Amarillo. “God blessed us and we could retire to do whatever we wanted to,” Borger said. “But we decided we wanted to do something that mattered. God opened the door for us to come to Pampa.” The Pampa location was at Trinity Fellowship
Church prior to becoming a part of the larger entity around seven years ago. “There’s three campuses in Amarillo, one in Decatur, one in Wellington, one in Wichita Falls, one in Pampa and they are about to open one in Lubbock,” Borger said. Borger added Trinity Fellowship is unique because they are open to what the Bible says. “We want to pursue whatever God’s word says and want to embrace it all,” Borger said. “We want to believe it all as 100 percent true. That involves understanding about God and understanding that Jesus came and paid for our sins so that we may have the Holy Spirit.” The first goal for those who attend Trinity Fel-
lowship is to first encounter God and then find community/friends to help fulfill their purpose in the Kingdom of God. “We encounter God through worship and the message we receive on a weekly basis,” Borger said. “To find community we have small groups and our Dream Team where you can serve on teams to do different things for the church like teach children’s classes, etc. In that Dream Team you find your purpose for God.” Trinity Fellowship runs an attendance of about 480 people across three services over the weekend. several ministries. One of the ministries is a back-toschool outreach that helps students with a new backpack, shoes (also help with a shoe outreach called Sneakers) or clothes. They also have a Thanksgiving outreach and help with the Harvest House. They also have an outreach for pre-school-aged children called HeroLand. “We have about 95 kids in that and it’s a Tuesday/Thursday program,” Borger said. “It’s a community outreach so they may not be necessarily coming to our church but some do come to our church so it’s a good thing.” The services at Trinity Fellowship are a combination of a satellitefeed and a message from Borger.
Trinity Fellowship has a 7 p.m. Thursday service, 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Borger said the worship music is styled similar to what is commonly played on Christian radio. “I’d say we’re on the cutting edge of Christian music,” Borger said. “Because of that we attract a younger demographic. This church is primarily made up of young families.” Some of the music is actually written by the worship team at Trinity Fellowship Church. There are five full-time employees and five part-time employees at Trinity Fellowship Church. FELLOWSHIP cont. on page 4 Trinity Fellowship has a hand in

“I do service-leading every week with some ministry, prayer and salvation call,” Borger said. “Most of the time we will have a message coming live from one of the other locations.” Trinity Fellowship’s Campus is rather large compared to many churches and has wings specifically for each age group of children. They have plenty of activities in the wings including pool, arcade, video games and more. There are youth services every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The junior high/high school program is called the Exchange and is hosting a conference with 100 kids from all over the Texas Panhandle. During the school year the youth pro-
gram has around 90 children. The fourth through sixth grade program, dubbed The Extreme, meets during the Thursday night service and Sunday 11 a.m. service. Ultimately, Borger wants everyone who attends Trinity Fellowship, whether be weekly attendees or oneoffs, to feel loved. “I hear this so often, people come in here and they feel so accepted, loved and not judged,” Borger said. “There isn’t a religious sphere here where one person considers themselves better than somebody else. Everyone feels loved. We have some people who have been really beat up by the enemy and they just feel loved.” For more information on Trinity Fellowship Church call 806-665-3255 or visit their website at www.tfc.org or their Facebook Page.

Plenty of ways to help through St. Vincent’s de Paul By John Lee
jclee@thepampanews.com Twitter: @jcl1987
Father Franciso Pérez has been at St. Vincent’s de Paul Parish, located at 810 W. 23rd Avenue in Pampa, since 2004. Pérez said St. Vincent’s de Paul belongs to the Catholic diocese of the Amarillo and is a hierarchical church similar to episcopalian churches. “We have all of the sacraments and doctrine whereas not all churches have all of the sacraments,” Pérez said. “We believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.” Pérez said many of the immigrants from south of the border are Catholic, which necessitates the church to have Spanishspeaking services. St. Vincent’s has three celebrations during the weekend, Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m., Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. and a Spanish mass at 12 p.m. During the week there is a Spanish mass at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesday service at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at 7 a.m. and Friday at 8:30 a.m. St. Vincent’s youth program meets on Wednesdays with prayer services, study and fun programs with a Catholic Foundation. The first semester sees around 20 students that falls to about 15 in the second semester. There are 40 students in Confirmation. St. Vincent’s de Paul has several ministries including Faith Formation, which has more than 300 kids who either come to First Communion, are Baptized as infants or may be started in confirmations or quinceñeras.
They also have a Women’s Council who serve the needs of the church, Bible classes, the study of the faith doctrine, Knights of Columbus, civic and support parish and more. One of their ministries is RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), which is how adults inquire to become Catholics or come back to the church. In total, St. Vincent’s has around 50 ministries including prayer groups, marriage enrichment, Guadalupanas, ACTS Retreats, Cursillo Retreat, Spiritual Retreats, Ministry
to the Poor, Ministry to the Sick and the ProLife Ministry. Pérez said there are roughly 700 families in the parish. “Our ministry is to support people whether they are Catholic or not,” Pérez said. Adoration to the Sacraments are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays with confessions being on Saturdays. The role of bread in the sacrament of the Eucharist The sacrament of the Eucharist, sometimes referred to as “Holy Communion,” is steeped in tradition. One such tradition concerns the bread used during the administration of the sacrament. The bread used during the Eucharist may be referred to as “the host,” and not all denominations within the Christian Church use the same type of bread. For example, in the western Catholic Church, a thin, round wafer made of unleavened bread is used during the Eucharist, while the Orthodox Church and the Eastern-rite Roman Catholic churches use leavened bread. Protestant churches may use leavened or unleavened bread for their hosts. Only practicing Orthodox Christians in good standing with the Church may bake the bread used for the Eucharist within the Orthodox Church. Nuns, priests or
congregants once bore the responsibility of making the bread for the Eucharist in the Catholic Church, but many Catholic Churches now get their bread from bakeries. For Christians, the Eucharist is more than just bread. While denominations within the Christian Church may differ in regard to their beliefs, all Christians believe Christ is present in the Eucharist in one way or another. For example, Catholics believe in transubstantiation, the process before the administration of the Eucharist during which the bread and wine are transformed into Jesus Christ himself. The administration of the sacrament of the Eucharist is a special moment in the lives of Christians, and bread plays a significant role at this time for Christians of all denominations.

What is Communion? Some people, including young children preparing to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion, may be confused by what it is all about. Children may mistakenly think that receiving Holy Communion is a singular event. But First Holy Communion is only the beginning of a potential lifelong commitment to Jesus Christ.
What is Holy Communion?
Christians believe that Holy Communion is the receiving of Jesus Christ through the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is comprised of bread and wine, although some denominations believe that it is not necessary to receive the Lord’s body and blood in each, instead feeling that Christ is present fully in either the bread or wine. Catholics believe that through the process of transubstantiation the bread and wine before the priest becomes the body and blood of Christ. According to catechism and the liturgy, as soon as the Institution Narrative begins, the Lord is present in the elements of bread and wine. The institution of Holy Eucharist occurred during the Last Supper. As stated in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Jesus instructed His followers to use bread and wine to
remember the sacrifice He was going to make when He died on the cross for people’s sins.
A continuous act
While much fanfare is understandably afforded to First Holy Communion, Christians receive the Eucharist every day at church services all over the world. Receiving communion is not a singular act. People recognized that every time they gathered around a table to eat and drink, it provided an opportunity to recognize and thank Jesus. Adults can reinforce this concept to children by explaining that receiving Communion each week at Mass is just as special as receiving it that first time in spring.
Easter and when in danger of death. Holy Communion is an opportunity to enter into an intimate union with Jesus Christ, who Christians believe provides holiness and grace to all who are willing to receive Him.
Celebration not an obligation
Although the Church advises all Christians to receive communion when free from mortal sin and with the right intentions, Holy Communion should not seem like an obligation. Rather, individuals can view it as a celebration and an opportunity to reconnect with Jesus each time they receive the host. Make the process more exciting for children by explaining that Holy Communion is a party and a happy endeavor. According to the religious resource CatholicCity, the only time people are obligated to receive Holy Communion is during

Faith Bible Church continues to serve the community after 15 years By John Lee
jclee@thepampanews.com Twitter: @jcl1987
Faith Bible Church started as a fellowship in 2004 in the homes of various congregation members. Before long, the fellowship grew and is now held in downtown Pampa at 110 W. Kingsmill. Faith Bible Church has three distinctive qualities in being a Bible church. The first being that they believe in the understanding and inspiration of scripture. “We are very chapter by chapter, verse by verse,” pastor Dylan Hill said. “We are very invested in the literacy and helping people understand the
word of God so they can know God in the word better.” Hill said the second distinction is Faith Bible Church is how God has operated across time with the distinction of Israel and the church. The third major distinction is everything is focused on the glory of God. “Of those three we are very committed to the careful teaching of scriptures so people understand the word of God better and therefore better glorify him,” Hill said. As a result of the teaching, Faith Bible Church hopes members are better transformed to be more like Christ and better serve communities to glorify God. Faith Bible Church has about 75 members with about 30-50 people attending church on a week-to-week basis. Hill has been at Faith Bible Church since January and leads a congregation of mostly older members with 13 children and a handful of younger families. “The big bulk of our composition is 50 to 92 years old,” Hill said. Faith Bible Church ranges in traditional hymns to somewhat contemporary worship. They meets on Wednesday nights for teaching from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Moms in Prayer International meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. during the school year, Women’s Prayer Group meets at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and the Men’s Prayer Group meets at 7 a.m. on Fridays. The last Friday of the month the church holds a Men’s Night with a meal and fellowship. There are two Sunday school groups that meet at 9 a.m. A mixed men/ women and a women’s group during the school year. There is also a children’s Sunday school group. Being on the smaller side, Faith Bible Church doesn’t have any major community ministries outside of the four walls of the church, but they do support missionaries from the church. Hill is the lone paid staff member as Faith Bible Church is a very elderled church. “All of our elders technically serve as pastors,” Hill said. “We have a ministry of leaders as well.” Faith Bible Church has a Facebook page at “Faith Bible Church Pampa” and a website www.faithpampa.org. Full Armor Fellowship continues to see growth By John Lee
jclee@thepampanews.com Twitter: @jcl1987
In October 2018, The Pampa News told you about Full Armor Fellowship, a young church in Pampa located at 1733 N. Banks, on the cusp of its one-year anniversary. Six months later, pastor Mike Carlisle and the church continues to see growth and changes. “It’s awesome how God has really been on the move,” Carlisle said. “We’ve achieved everything and our growth is now in the triple digits. We’re still averaging between 15-20 percent attendance growth on a weekly basis.” Full Armor Fellowship now runs Celebrate Recovery on Friday evenings and Bible Studies with discipleship training on Wednesdays and, of course, service on Sundays. Some of the women in the congregation have undertaken Operate Backpack, which supplies the homeless, addicted and others struggling in the community with backpacks. “We’ve participated in several community events including the City Lights and we are still on the move with great things going on and growing,” Carlisle said. Within the four walls of the building, the bathrooms have been expanded and remodeled, they have increased their seating capacity and Carlisle and his wife, Amy, will be moving one block from the church, which will help with church availability. “Our intentions are to have the church open five to six days a week,” Carlisle said. The church staff has seen a growth with the addition of musicians, a secretary and more pastoral leaders. Most of the growth has come as a result of becoming more visible in the community. “We’ve become very intentional about reaching the lost,” Carlisle said. “Part of our mission statement early on was to bring people to a place of redemption, restoration and relationship. That’s kind of what we’ve worked on. We started the process through Celebrate Recovery and Bible study, community, word-of-mouth and reaching the people.” Family relationships have been restored through the outreach which has helped with the growth. “We’ve seen estranged fathers and sons who hadn’t talked to each other in years and are now attending church together,” Carlisle said. “The community has really supported us. I recognized that early on. They’ve helped us just as much as anyone has.” In the very near future, Carlisle would like to “get in the ditches” and
really start reaching more people in the community. “I want the church to be a light to the community,” Carlisle said. “I want to continue to grow the programs. I really want to increase our efforts in the jails and prisons around here and try to do a little more with that.” The average age of congregation members are 35-40 years old and are blue-collar workers. “We are casual dress but are open to suits and ties, none of that is off the table, but that just seems to be who we are, casual dressed,” Carlisle said. Full Armor Fellowship will feature Sunday pick-ups and now has an app available on iTunes under “FAF Pampa.” They also have a website at www.fafpampa.com and a Facebook page. Ahead of Sunday service there is a gathering time at 10:30 a.m. before 11 a.m. service, Bible Study at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (gathering time 6:30 p.m.) and Celebrate Recovery at 6:45 p.m. on Fridays. For more information visit their Facebook page. “We just appreciate the community’s continued support,” Carlisle said. “We appreciate their efforts in supporting our work and would just like them to be patient with us as we continue to grow.”
