With a 13-8 vote, ANAK Federation's former NCR representative, Rommel Gonzaga from PUP San Juan, obtained the Interim Student Regent (SR) position against current Finance President Jonero Dacula from PUP Sta. Mesa, last June 2021, then acquired 23 votes on the 22nd Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Konseho ng PUP (ANAK PUP) Federation ExeComm Election securing his spot last November 2021.

The Interim (SR) Election period ran for an estimated 26 hours, with 100% voter turnout from the General Assembly of ANAK PUP Federation.

Gonzaga got 13 votes, Dacula with eight, while six representatives abstained from voting on the Interim SR Election.

The former SR, Ms. Ellenor Joyce Bartolome, resigned from the said position last May 1, 2021.

Meanwhile, on the 22nd ANAK ExeComm Election, Gonzaga garnered 23 votes, clinching most of the PUP branches and campuses on November 21, 2021.

His contenders, Kassandra Abila from PUP College of Communication (COC)

Student Council (SC) President and Mark Vincent Fusilero from PUP College of Law SC President, got 11 and two votes, respectively.

The 22nd ANAK ExeComm Election pushed through despite motions regarding its unconstitutionality in the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), mostly colleges from the main campus; however, College of Education (COED) President Nicasio Masuela rejected the amendment, paving the way for the accelerated election

During the election, Masuela also rushed to close the nomination for SR despite other members still raising for other nominations; COMELEC head Yves Garcia pushed to complete the nomination

Among the platforms and advocacies of SR Gonzaga is the ITAPCUPE: Inclusivity,Transparency,Accountability, People’s Participation, Consistency, Unification, Progressive, and Empowerment

He is also calling out the attention of different organizations for their cooperation and unity, as the student regent is not a one-person team but of PUP’s student body that will promote the PUPians' rights.

Unchallenged SA Election Ensures Spot

A total of 51 attendees consisting of academic and non-academic organizations and class representatives, participated in the election through a Google form

The options given to the voters were to vote or to abstain

Amidst the accusations, the PUP Student Regent (SR), Rommel Gonzaga, denies the alleged manipulation of the PUP Interim and 22nd Student Regent Election, malversation, and other assumed political motives.

In a statement, he said it was black propaganda and he had nothing to do with the accusations thrown at him

"I would rather be involved in the elections in the PUP San Juan where I belong than in the PUP Main," said Gonzaga.

Even before the term of the new SR, there were lots of heavy accusations and personal attacks against him posted on the PUP Freedom Wall Facebook page

Other issues connected to SR Gonzaga were the IGNITE Fundraising Concert and his inside operations in the Office of the Student Regent (OSR)

Online Competency: A Success or Failure?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) established distance learning in the country It is preferable to have a system like this since face-to-face engagement is limited this time; it allows education to continue during the pandemic In this case, the students have three learning modality options: online, modular, and blended learning

Many state universities and colleges engaged in modular or online classes with synchronous or asynchronous sessions. These have stimulated the students to address the crisis and take a step forward for the Philippine Education System.

However, students are under pressure because of the changes in the education system. There are critical factors in this aspect, including no immediate notice, some may not have enough access to the internet, and more likely, there are no gadgets

Learning at home may also cause a student to concentrate less because of the chaos in the environment Online classes are ineffective for students' competency since this kind of setup exposes those with limited internet access and no gadgets Some students are also likely to multi-task to help with household chores because of class home setup

In a survey conducted wherein a majority of over 53 percent of the teachers and students doubted the competencies in distance learning refer to the development of cognition and skills. Another reason: there is less opportunity for the competencies in the online class as the students are pressured to answer the quiz or exams because of the time limit given to them, without considering the low internet access, and some students are just using data for accessing the exam or quizzes. Lastly, students' mental health resulted in an increase in anxiety and depression because of the online class setup

Hence, online class reduces the development of students. They are struggling a lot, and the teachers are also coping with the situation The student's academic performance decreases too, as this kind of setup brings less competency, and the activities impact the student’s mental health It is a call of action to understand

the crisis, especially its effect on students’ competency. It is less valuable because they are in an online class or distance learning setup

Being a student is not easy A way to cope is not to pressure yourself in this situation, and competency is where cooperation is needed.

GOLDEN ERA, WHO?

Filipinos, especially victims of the late dictator and former president, have already embraced the fact that another Marcos would embark on the Philippines' history. It's a slap in the face to all the activists who sacrificed their lives for freedom, but for decency, we should at least give him the benefit of the doubt, right?

So President Marcos, with all due respect, how does it feel to be a fruit of another political dynasty in the morning and the life of the party at night?

I guess it's not that hard to see how our current government neglects social issues are since our so-called hero has sat in his position There are uncountable kidnappings, the skyrocketing prices of crops, the crashing state of the economy, the ongoing health crisis, and much

more

Furthermore, this is not the time to focus on partnering with big businesses when your local market is going down the drain. It is not also the time to plan a surprise party for your ‘oh-soNewYork wife’ when the price of a dollar is close to 60 PHP. While you are helicoptering to SONA, our public transport is hard to access. So, this is not the time to showcase your privilege when your fellow Filipino suffers.

I see the goal behind every action, but every action has a domino effect

As the president of this nation, you must lead and serve not only those who sit at the top of the food chain but also those who crawl under it

As urbanization and development become more prominent, access to communication, specifically mobile phones and their accessories, has become more common. It entails using a subscriber identity module or SIM card to facilitate communication and other transactions SIM cards are available at almost any retail store and even online

In the Philippines, anyone can buy as many SIM cards as they want as it is affordable, and no limits on their purchase This freedom then paved the way for the sudden increase of fraudulent activities such as sending spam messages to phish (illegally getting personal or bank information) and scamming random users through attached links or simple messages.

SIM Card Registration: For Better Or For Worse?

"Finally, meron na tayong magagawa (we can do something) aside from just ignoring, deleting, or blocking the numbers with fraudulent or spam messages," Poe said in her privilege speech. "We now have in our hands the means to unmask the criminals who have been hiding for so long under the protection of anonymity and to bring them to justice," she added (Philippine News Agency)

Recently, the House of Representatives and the Senate already passed the revised Sim Card Registration Act, which mandates the registration of sim cards to protect its users and reduce these phishing activities and the like, as it was then vetoed by the previous President Rodrigo Duterte due to the "inclusion of mandatory social media registration in the measure "

As The Diplomat restates what presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar said, “[He] was constrained to disagree with the inclusion of social media in the measure, without providing proper guidelines and definitions thereto, as the same may give rise to a situation of dangerous state intrusion and surveillance threatening many constitutionally protected rights."

Senate Bill 1310, or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Card Registration Act, was ratified last September 27, 2022, during the 25th Senate Session by all its attendees, with Senator Grace Poe thanking her colleagues for the approval.

Meanwhile, on September 28, 2022, amid budget deliberations, the House ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the disagreeing provisions of the Act.

Moreover, according to Privacy International, SIM card registration is “costly, intrusive” and has not proven effective in curbing crime The data to be collected will also be put on a centralized server that might target scammers to be used in the black market and the like. Thus, it might add up to the target of hackers through data breaches

Even before the previous President's veto, analyst Mary Grace Mirandilla-Santos said on February 2022 that "for cybersecurity policy, the bill, if passed into the law, may do more harm than good."

With this support from the legislators and continuous appeals against it, is this Act the solution to protect Filipino mobile phone users or be a new dilemma towards our data privacy and cybersecurity?

With the Act's goal to combat mobile phone-aided crimes, terrorism, text scams, bank fraud, and anonymous online defamation, will it reduce the number of fraudulent activities or just put the information and security of the whole country into a bigger problem?

As its provisions gave responsibility to the telecommunication companies and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to maintain the privacy of the details of the SIM card users, unprecedented moves of cyber attackers should still be kept in mind so as not to make the goal of the Act turn into a more alarming concern rather than a better move for everyone's security.

How about you? Are you in favor of this Act? Will you just let the lawmakers decide on this matter?

#MaJoHa

History is not gossip; it is about facts that allow disciplines like science and analysis to draw on points. Ambeth Ocampo said, "Don't mix history and gossip. Although history may be partial, it is grounded on reality rather than on opinion. The subject of true history is the truth, not falsehoods or fabrications of any kind.” After that, trolls insulted him by calling him an idiot and a "yellow" historian.

Everyone should learn history It is the study and recording of our story "What happened" and "what happened because of it" are critical questions Learning "when it happened" is a bonus The dates should serve as bookmarks to a chapter, and we should read them to gain a deeper perspective of the world around us today Historical sources are essential to our investigation of the past and significantly affect how well we perform on the history examinations We must have a solid understanding of historical sources and the many forms and categories they can take.

#MaJoHa was one of the controversy of the absurd housemate from the PBB reality TV show "Pinoy Big Brother" (PBB) when asked about the three Filipino martyrs of the Spanish colonization Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora One of the housemates, taking a cue from the first names of the priests, said, "Marjo!" Her adversary was ready to retort, saying, "MaJoHa!" The answer is, of course, Gomburza.

Sources are documents and artifacts that supply this information. It may include doing something as simple as reading a book, visiting a website, or trying to decipher the meaning of ancient relics. It is essential to spread awareness about history as a matter of knowing the truth from the past In some instances, the truth will always prevail because there is continuous evidence from primary and secondary sources and analyzing content

RED vs. PINK

Indeed, there is so much danger in the future of our country and the next generation of Filipino people We are in great peril because the degree of democracy continuously weakens as well as increasing direct attacks on civil liberties and human rights. The 2022 National Elections was a muchawaited and defining moment in the history of our country. Again, we were in chaos. People were divided based on the color of the candidate they supported, especially the presidential candidate.

Were they for red (BBM or Bongbong Marcos)? Or for pink (Leni Robredo)? That was the reason for the rivalry between Filipinos before the election since most Filipinos were either BBM or Leni The results could be a huge turning point for the Filipino people or another baneful consequence

Rivalry is understandable since we need to select a leader who is skilled at both speaking and acting what he/she says; a leader who works hard to find solutions to problems rather than complain; a leader who has room for agricultural sectors to help the farmers and fishermen of our country; a leader who will use public funds to decrease poverty; a leader who builds schools for youths who do not have access to quality education; a leader who opens hospitals and health care facilities for the poor.

Moreover, we need a leader who serves and gives justice to oppressed people rather than kill innocent people; a leader who does not practice corruption and abuse; a leader who is true to the work of improving the services of all government sectors; and a leader who can speak, act, and think on behalf of a nation, people, and country. A leader of our country must always be proFilipino, whatever it takes, and must have the dignity to protect the country and the Filipino people and bravely face those leaders of other countries who are bullying our nation

In the recent elections, another Marcos won his way to the presidential position That doesn’t stop the Red vs Pink rivalry because both supporters look for flaws That’s all right if they rely on facts and not just their emotions We are powerful enough, so we should use our voices accordingly Love our nation, not the candidate.

Ultimately, we must restore the government to return it to our people. Our nation must prevail to hear the voices of our fellow Filipinos. And whether it is red or pink, it should be for the common good.

Replacing the mode of learning has played a big part in the well-being of learners The students in the primary sector who were used to interacting with their classmates, meeting random people, and making friends are now drowning in online activities and stuck at home. Many high school and college students who were more aware of their surroundings suffer from mental health issues and worry about their futures. Online class is a big challenge for every student to keep on track academically while many things are happening.

With that, the government has disappointed us by making poor choices in the education system of our country Since the government is too incompetent to resolve the health crisis, the effects of the pandemic have been prolonged, including the students finishing a whole school year with this “tiring” online learning mode. Many were left behind because of the expense of buying essentials like gadgets and a stable internet connection. We all know that the government's funding in the education system is still not enough to make all students afford online classes. Hence, it is insulting to see corruption issues in different government sectors. The money could help many students return to their classes and support the

health unit to combat the virus

Department of Education (DepEd) adapted to this new normal by implementing a distance learning approach with printed modules available However, there are various issues related to this approach where there are grammatical errors And according to Senator Ralph Recto, 93 6 billion pages of learning modules are required for millions of public school students for one academic year.

Lastly, school closures have resulted in lower physical activity, bad diets, increased anxiety and self-harm, and exposure to domestic violence. The government must have a concrete plan to end the spread of the COVID-19 virus because students cannot afford to lose another school year to an antipoor idea of online classes And if it would not cost us much, we should be a little kinder to everyone because we have no idea what burden a person carries

Comparison of the Two Online Class Essentials Strengths Strengths

As of September 2022, Google Classroom has been rated an average of 3 3 stars by 1.8 million users in Google Play Store. The following are the strengths of this platform, enabling them to garner such ratings:

Convenience - Google Classroom is easy to use and accessible across various devices ranging from standard phones to computers since this can be downloaded as an app and accessed through a browser. It is also integrated with other google productivity apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, allowing the Teachers and Participants to create output without using other third-party apps

Ease of distribution - Announcements, assignments, documents, and other learning materials that participants can share in a classroom have gotten more accessible since you can access them in the dashboard

Ease of tracking - Instructors can track who submitted a specific assignment and give feedback immediately since it has a great commenting system, allowing more excellent student support

Clean and user-friendly interface - Google Classroom has a standard layout that is simple and easy to navigate

Weaknesses

Despite the strengths posed, there are still some shortcomings that the Google Classroom poses:

Limited Integration Options - Even though Google Classroom is connected to other productivity google products If, in any case, that material is in a Word Document file or any google product counterpart, the said document has to be converted first to Google Docs before it can be edited Thus sometimes, it distorts the layout and format of the conversion process

Editing Problems - Once a document and learning material is shared, students may accidentally delete a part since the ownership is transferred to them, which can sometimes cause problems

Google Account is mandatory - A requirement to join a classroom is a Google Account. So, users must create it if they don’t have one.

Microsoft Teams is another household name for online collaboration, increasing usage during online classes. Just like Google Classroom, it has its strengths, and these are the following:

Personalized Teams - Users can create a team from scratch or choose among the variety of templates that they have which is applicable depending on the type of group, project, and outcome that a group of people is working on, which makes accomplishing a task easier since a Team is already designed based on the purpose Anyone in a Team can also create channels and add a smaller portion of the participants to discuss things that are good for collaborative learning

It has integrated tools - With Teams, participants can video conference, audio call, and work on files without leaving the app since those can be done on the application interface

Ease of navigation of files - Participants may search for a file seamlessly since it has its file storage On top of that, even if the channel is deleted, the files are stored in a SharePoint site which serves as a backup

hich can help accomplish

Weaknesses

Some people may still struggle in using Microsoft Teams despite its wide range of functions, and these are the following:

Too many options - Teams offers a wide variety of tools, which may confuse users, specifically students since it can be complicated and similar. Thus, determining which tool to use in a particular problem can be a problem

Storage Problems - Microsoft Teams can take up the storage because they create teams within the teams themselves.

Security Risk - Given that members of a specific team may create groups among themselves, the security risk also increases since students, for example, may upload malicious files to those channels

FINALVERDICT

With the pros and cons of the two renowned online classes apps, we can say that choosing the best online learning platform depends on the class’ intent to use it. Google Classroom is a more practical choice. Google's G Suite for Education is arguably the best place to start if the class wants to integrate technology into their classroom to boost productivity and cooperation. Its simplicity may be most advantageous to younger students like those in lower education. On the other hand, Microsoft Teams is a multipurpose tool that brings people together for greater real-time collaboration and interaction. Although it can be challenging to understand and requires the capacity to download numerous programs initially, Microsoft Teams for Education can have the additional capability with associated apps and programs. Students in higher education or older grade school students with access to the Office software suite may benefit more from this platform.

Know Your Worth

Regardless

You are worthy no matter what Nothing and no one could define your worth Hence, knowing your worth is the first step toward selflove

Recognize What You Deserve

Do not settle for less and bare minimum efforts You deserve the same intensity and consistency of love and care you give to others. So, give that love and care to yourself first

Heal from Your Past Traumas

There’s this saying, “If you don’t heal what hurts you, you’ll bleed on people who didn’t cut you.” Projecting your pain onto someone isn’t the best way to heal from a broken heart It’s detrimental, especially when you trigger someone’s insecurities. You will hurt them and yourself more Also, remember that healing is

Seven Seconds is All it Takes

According to research from Stony Brook University, you can detect whether someone likes you unconsciously or consciously in just seven seconds Additionally, they maintain that it had little to nothing to do with appearance On all points, the majority of teenagers would probably disagree

The Baader Meinhof Phenomenon

Regarding frequency bias, this is an intriguing discovery from cognitive psychology It says that if you see something fascinating, you start to notice it more often So, for instance, you will hear your crush's name a lot more after you learn it

different from avoiding your pain Face it and heal from it In return, it will give you peace and happy life.

Exercise Healthy Communication

Healthy and mature communication with yourself and others is also a form of self-love. Say what you mean, and mean what you say without hurting yourself and others Learn to say “No” sometimes and set boundaries

Lower Your Ego/Pride

Sometimes, your ego/pride hinders you from being happy It damages relationships, friendships, and careers. When you put your ego/pride aside, it builds effective communication to resolve misunderstandings

Unlearn Your Unhealthy Traits

We all have unhealthy traits that we should unlearn to maintain healthy relationships with others I swear, it is rewarding and satisfying

Let Go

Some things are out of your control You might say it is unfair, but you do not have the right to demand them Let go and trust that more extraordinary things are meant for you

Leave Past Behind

You cannot go back in time, but you can still build your future To do that, leave your past behind and work on your present Carpe diem! Live in the moment!

Practice Forgiveness

Forgiveness brings healing and peace So, forgive yourself and others for the hurtful things you/they did It will help you move on in life

Be Patient With Yourself

You are a work in progress You might still hurt yourself or others But, always be mindful and learn from them Be patient with yourself because you are not perfect.

Perception Bias

There are several reasons why we fall in love with one person over another, and psychologists found some intriguing results For example, when we gaze at someone we find attractive, our brains tend to interpret their visuals to make them seem even more appealing It’s expectation vs reality

Proximity Bias

You're more likely to be in love with someone you genuinely know well and engage with frequently “Attraction helps humans bond and reproduce, but it’s infatuation and attachment that helps humans stay together,” said Dr Sandra Langeslag, Professor, of behavioral neuroscience at the University of Missouri

Triangular Theory of Love

According to Robert Sternberg's triangular theory of love, intimacy, passion, and commitment are the three elements of love Feelings of attachment, proximity, connection, and kinship are all included in intimacy The term "passion" covers impulses related to lust and limerance Lastly, commitment includes deciding to stay with someone, and in the long run, it consists of shared goals and ambitions

Commencement of the First Batch

K-12 Curriculu d

Constancy is the state of being all that holds great importance As human beings, we pride ourselves on unchanging, steadfast, and loyal Sometimes to stagnancy, but in our eyes, it’s an everlasting brand of who we are Yet, it’s the most common misconception about life As human beings, we are prone to change It is inevitable. To change means adapting new ideals, fresh beliefs, and a newfound faith in ourselves

However, the journey may be long and arduous. Like a caterpillar on its path to becoming a butterfly We often take the appearance of caterpillars as inferior to their final form without considering that it’s a vital stage in its life before emerging to its colorful byproduct And like humans, we have our own metamorphosis Each stage is as important as the other, whether it may be as a larva or as a butterfly

The introduction of the K-12 program in the Philippines was brought to enhance the country’s education system to match the global standard in the year 2016 by the late President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, more widely known as “PNoy”

The K-12 program includes education starting from Kindergarten, the original Basic Education, plus an additional two years of education that we now know as Senior High School. These new levels of secondary education introduced the strands as we know them Each strand is catered to the skills and interests of students, offering them additional years of preparation for their chosen program in college One way of looking at it is that it also added a way for students to assess what they really want to do in the future. After all, choosing programs and aspirations impacts our whole lives, thus we must decide carefully

The implementation of the K-12 program included two more years that rendered both positive and negative views with the public

On a positive note, the K-12 program allows graduates to be able to pursue either post-graduate employment, higher education, or entrepreneurship. The new system promises students who are unable or uninterested in pursuing higher education to find jobs appropriate to the skills they have and enhance thru SHS and/or establish their own businesses Studies say that it’s also easier for Filipinos to attain jobs now overseas as the program matches international standards.

However, the reform to the education system of the country means that the physical and educational facilities of schools are being tested. According to Gammill and Melican of the Inquirer, in 2015, there were 2 3 million students that were not able to attend school due to poverty Yet, despite the high number of students out of school, classrooms are still congested and very overcrowded

In PUP San Juan, the number of caterpillars that accomplished their journey in metamorphosis is a whopping 284 and went off to the Conferral of their Degrees on September 16 The last few steps of their journey are scheduled on November 7 for their Graduation Rites at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan

They are one of the first batch of K12 graduates in the Academic Year 2021-2022; 32 from BSA; 79 from BSBA FM; 32 from BSENT; 71 from BSHM; 52 from BSIT, and; 18 from BSED EN as per the University Registrar

There is still no concrete data on whether or not this graduating batch is deemed “competent” for the real world But it isn’t to say that they aren’t Let’s not forget that the K-12 program was implemented to be on par with the international standard of education and this program has been present way before we even considered it for our country

What do we usually feel when a chapter ends? Excited? Afraid? Nervous? Upset? Whether it be an end of a school year, a relationship breaking, or even goals fleeting, aside from the emotions we might feel, are the challenges of the next season we have to face from any of these: transition It was and will never be easy From childhood to adulthood, from schooling to working, from heartbeats to heartbreaks, and many more Peer pressure and the like will always be a part of these Yet, one thing's certain; we have to bid goodbye to whatever season we had and say hello to the new chapter

So, what's next with endings and goodbyes? Especially now that the goal we just used to have a few years ago is almost here: finishing tertiary education Bidding goodbye to college life might seem the most awaited season for most of us Yet, also one of the most challenging transitions we could ever face It is the season when most of the people we know might seem to be expecting a lot from us Maybe a greater opportunity or a "finally you can help us" thought instead? Beyond these external factors that lie ahead, the reality is that as we enter the gates of this University, one day, when we get out of it, the real world follows Thought about employment or business? Indeed, the pandemic made it more flexible for most of us to juggle working or doing business while studying Yet, we sometimes think, are we ready to be the persons we thought we should be?

Folks, life doesn't stop at getting that degree or being hired at that dream job or salary grade, and it's neither doing your best to please everyone nor earning much money The real question is: is it worth living? Have we enjoyed this season or just taken it for granted?

The phrase we used to grow at goes, "Study hard so that you can have a bright future ahead" or "a good word in the future," but what does that bright future really mean? If most of us lived under that pressure and fear over almost 18 years of studying? For some, it was just a requirement For others, it might be their greatest dream But no matter what pushes us to do our best in everything we do, what does life after college really offer?

Come to think of it Our country, on average, expects 1 6 million graduating college students per year Some of our friends might earn at least P240,000 per year, while some are still at the minimum These are good numbers, for now, maybe a view of that "good future" idea or sustainable somehow But how about your other self?

Basically, we might've grown a lot mentally and physically through schooling or being working students or business owners But how about our emotional and spiritual selves? Are these portions of us ready for the changing season? Transitioning from a different season in life requires a lot of emotional and spiritual support Ever heard about people who used to excel at school or work but ended up taking their lives?

We differ in the way we accept reality Some might have learned it early, while others may not know how to handle such quickly So, what's your purpose? Is it earning a lot of money or acquiring things to post on social media? Is it doing what others expected you to or just going on with the flow? No matter what stage we are stepping up right now, may we always turn back to our reasons why we started and never forget to keep things balanced- for being sane is still of great importance

Now that another chapter is almost ending, as emotions and changes are continuously going, are you really prepared to take the next step or move backward and start all over again?

Somehow, you might feel left behind for others might have achieved their goals faster than you do It's just okay Your season might not be the same for others, and so! Your feelings might seem different from the crowd, and it is valid Each phase of life definitely makes us feel bothered or unstable, but our reasons speak for it If it feels like some are making it harder for you when they cheer you up by saying you can do it, be reminded that it's alright to take a break and ask for help instead It's just fine that you can't do everything and take a pause to internalize the changes At the end of the day, it will always be you who knows yourself and can help you decide on your own Don't be too hard on yourself; everything happens at the perfect time

Despite all these ups and downs of our changing seasons, may we all find the best circle to support us and lead us to the real purpose of living- not to please people but to praise the one who made us all, no matter what stage we are transitioning to right now. Is it worth living? Have we really enjoyed this season or just taken it for granted? As we bid goodbye to college life, we hope we will leave this season with not just good topics and great memories but incredible life lessons that we will always be proud of that we had such on our stay on this Campus

Financial Literacy Lessons Financial Literacy Lessons

Squid Game It used to be a simple game that Korean Kids like to play However, as the movie came out, it became a whole different meaning to the world. It is not your ordinary movie where every game just symbolizes a game The movie symbolizes money, it presents the word finance. How does this movie, an action, and thrilling movie, provide a lot of moral lessons when it comes to financing?

1. Red Light, Green Light: SelfManagement is the Key

In life, there are courses where you know how to go, and you know how to stop. Apply that to your financial management as well As the game signifies, go and stop You must know when to spend your money, and you must know when to stop spending your money and start saving it If you learned the Red Light and Green Light, you will be able to become wise in spending and value every peso you have

2. Dalgona: Don't Just Work Hard, Work Smart!

Working hard may bring more damage. Do not ever settle wherein you will only look at the base of the work and risk more of your money because you did not try to look within, to study in-depth. Working hard may bring good to you, but working smart will provide efficiency and less drainage to you

4. Marbles: Don't Put Yourself on Money Scams

Sincerely Zea

3. Tug of War: Financial Planning Works

It’s either you lose your money or pull it together to receive your desired financial goal A tug of war symbolizes tugging or pulling the rope to win In finance, effective planning makes you win more than lose more. Without financial planning, your goal will not turn out as you have planned

Either you learn how to properly look at an investment or you will suffer financially In the marbles, you have a partner and must find a way to protect your marbles until you reach the end of the game, or else if you are left with no marbles, you risk your survival In finance, it applies to money scams, if you do not look for ways and learn how to protect your investment or money, then you will suffer from having money to no money at all

5 Glass Stepping Stones: Invest Wisely

Just like the game, if you step on the wrong glass, you fall Applying it to our financial behavior, you can’t just be deceived in an investment that you think it’s a good investment without adequately studying it, you will fall and suffer if you choose the wrong one

6

. Squid Game: Insurance Protection is a Must

It’s either you play offense or defense in an investment This game gives you the lesson that you can be an offense to place risk in one investment, but a lesson to become more of a defense to protect yourself Having insurance protection gives you the ability to be protected by any potential losses, it is something everyone must highly consider

The movie ‘Squid Game’ already signified the word financial from its participants who needed financial help, however financial moral lessons do not stop with the participants of the game but the game itself In the financial world, it is either you understand the game and be the game or be the victim of the game Choose wisely! Decide wisely!

"Kung nasa Kalagitnaan ka, may hihintayin ka pa ba?" (If you are at The Middle, is there someone you still want to wait for?)

Juan Miguel Severo who is known as a multi-hyphenate artist became viral and prominent in public for his remarkable Spoken Poetries Apart from that, he is also a writer, a screenwriter, a playwright, and an actor In 2018, he finally made one of his masterpieces into the big screen under QCinema films A Philippine romantic slice-of-life drama film that was directed by Dan Villegas and adapted from the one-act play of none other than Juan Miguel Severo: "Hintayan ng Langit" (Heaven's Waiting)

According to Severo in his interview, the word "Kalagitnaan" is what people usually call "Purgatory" (The Middle)this place exists between heaven and hell This film follows the story of Lisang (Gina Pareño) and Manolo (Eddie Garcia); Lisang is well-known in the "Kalagitnaan" (The Middle/Purgatory) as a blatant and temperamental soul, the reason for her overstay in the said place Manolo entered the scene as a recently deceased newcomer to the "Kalagitnaan " Due to the surplus on "Kalagitnaan" , the two of them must share a room. What makes it more interesting is that once upon a time, Lisang was Manolo's apple of the eye Yes, they were past lovers when they were still on the ground

As they get along together again, flashbacks of their previous lives on the ground start to appear. Manolo left Lisang for two years due to personal reasons, and as soon as he came back to Lisang, he found out that she was bearing the child of another man Lisang committed and got married to another man because thought Manolo left her for another woman and will never come back for her To cut it short, they made wrong decisions that led them to live their livesthey married and had kids with other people

In the part wherein they started to have a conversation about their past again, Manolo said this line to Lisang "Maybe you never really loved me, if you found it that easy to give up " Referring to Lisang who didn't wait for him and gave up their relationship Lisang replied, "Maybe you never really loved me either if you find it this hard to forgive "

From there, a bunch of what if's popped into my mind; what would happen if Lisang didn't give up on Manolo? What if Manolo forgave Lisang? What would be the kind of life they would have if they ended up with each other?

As the movie goes on, Manolo asked Lisang why isn't she still going to heaven, then Lisang said this line to Manolo "Dahil ayokong sabihin mong hindi na naman kita hinintay kasi sabi mo hintayin kita kaya hinintay kita, dito!" (Because I don't want you to think that I didn't wait for you again…. you told me to wait for you that's why I waited for you, here!) I can feel my tears running down my cheeks as I recalled the instances wherein Lisang kept messing up other souls and caretakers around the "Kalagitnaan'' then I got it All this time she was doing it all for a purposedelaying her departure to heaven just to wait for Manolo

This whole movie rebuked me as a human It is not that I believe in Purgatory or such, but the notion that there will be a lot to lose if we don't know how to forgive and when to give up while we are still alive We never know when that time will come, we never know the chances we have lost and we will lose because of pride, impatience, anger, and sadness.

Maybe you are Manolo, who wants to forgive and wants someone to patiently wait for you somewhere, sometime Otherwise, you are Lisang, still waiting for someone and longing to be forgiven

I remember the Mayor's line, one of the souls waiting to go to heaven, as if she was reading my mind: "People always say, 'I want to leave a mark on this world but what matters is the void that we leave behind "

I bet once in your life you just wanted to disappear and get lost somewhere or at the worst end of your life that you have But I believe, you also imagined how your loved ones would feel when that time comes, and that's so disheartening They will feel devastated not because you left a mark on their lives, but because of the massive space, you have left in their hearts. Life is a one-way ticket only, so as long as you are breathing you still have a lot of chances, that is either to change something in your life to grow or lose it all

When Severo was asked, "May mga pinagsisisihan ka ba sa buhay mo?" (Do you have any regrets about your life?) He confidently answered, "Panghihinayang meron, pagsisisi wala " (I do have repentance, but there are no regrets)

An interesting difference between "pagsisisi" (regrets) and "panghihinayang" (repentance): Regret is feeling bad or guilty for the things that you have done, while repentance is a positive emotion such as using the mistakes you have made or the chances you have lost as a lesson to learn

There's nothing wrong with making mistakes, we don't make mistakes because we are failures, remember we make mistakes because we are trying to become better Nonetheless, I still hope that we don't have to feel either regret or repentance I hope we will find the fulfillment, genuine happiness, growth, and forgiveness that we truly deserve Forgiveness to others, and yourself

"Upang hindi mo na kailangan pang maghintay sa Kalagitnaan para lamang humingi ng kapatawaran " (So that you don't have to wait in the Middle just to ask for forgiveness)
