Enthusiasm and willingness to serve the organization is what theyneed. Theyneed someone who possesses a heart that is full of passion. Passion to serve the community and be part of the change and development in the future. Being a leader, you should start the change within yourself, be committed, be consistent and they should love what they are doing. That what it takes to become a leader for change.

Consolidated Senate Bill No. 2037 and House Bill No. 9023 also called as the National Polytechnic University (NPU) Bill that tends to strengthen the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in terms of status and its institutional and fiscal autonomy is a good catch because it would mean very real support for the university as a whole. However, President Rodrigo Duterte vetoed the said bill with the accompaniment of a letter stating his remarks on PUP’s reassessment in light with its current performance ranking among State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the country.
According to the latest data ranking of the leading state universities in the Philippines by UniRank this 2019, Polytechnic University of the Philippines ranked 6th among 231 Philippine higher education institutions. President Duterte’s vetoing of the said bill, therefore, implies only three things: either he is unaware of the university’s current ranking and performance, he intends to allocate the funds on more significant purposes, or he has any other valuable reasons as to not support the promotion, nurturing and protecting each Isko and Iska’s right to accessible quality education.
Through the years, PUP has been one of the leading state universities in the Philippines, alongside University of the Philippines (UP).
Unfortunately, with more than 70,000 students from different branches and campuses, PUP has lesser budget it needs to operate. According to General Appropriations Act of 2019, UP has an estimated budget of P 17 billion. Meanwhile, PUP only got a mere P1.5 billion. Compared to the number of students the 2 universities have, evidently PUP got more, as UP only have a rounded off 61,000 students. These figures should sink in to our President .
With this predicament, it was just underappreciated that PUP also snatched the 5th place on the latest CPA licensure examination, dominated the 2019 Civil Engineering Board Exam with three PUPians securing its’ top spots, tops the Psychometrician, Electrical Engineering and Electronics Technician board examinations, and surpasses national passing rate in the May 2019 Civil Engineering Licensure Examination a sign, or maybe even a valid fact that granting the school a privileged status will not lead to a fiscal disadvantage to the government in comparison to the claims of President Duterte.
The previously proposed Senate Bill No. 2037, regarding National Polytechnic University Bill has for its purpose the strengthening and developing professional courses and other technical programs of all PUP branches through the granting of NPU status and fiscal autonomy to the said university a community of financially challenged but deserving students. Whatever reason Duterte has for vetoing the said bill if it is considered reasonable at all only proves the administration’s inconsiderate priorities. This only proves the administration lack of foresight with regards to what matters most in prioritizing the progress of a Third World Country EDUCATION.

discriminating them as rebels with these actions, we should understand where are they coming from. However, when activisms gone mad, from shouting to vandalizing on the corners of the school and burning chairs or properties funded by the government, it is the time we could say that student activists are already hitting below the belt. These inappropriate acts shouldn’tbeestablished.
Today, student activisms are still prevalent, and attheend of theday, no one can hinder us from practicing our right to freedom of speech. Student activism is not a crime, we should be mindful of that. A ball of sunshine, that’s how Ella’s classmates would describe her. You would normally see her at school smiling from ear to ear and beaming with so much delight that lightens the mood. Just like any other person. She feels satisfied whenever she makes somebody else happy with her lame puns and facades. Yes, she is that epitome of happiness in everyone else’s eye, but little did they know, the glitter and gloss that she puts on her words, hides a shadow of how sad she is due to the reality at home that she has
The concept of a broken family is never new to us, it is safe to assume that we all know that it is hard to be in a situation where in your family isn't sticking together due to some reasons. I believe that people who grew up from a broken family don’t have it easy, it must be sad knowing that you have to wake up one day where the last person you have in mind to leave is slowly drifting away and that person who you expects to see you from the crowd as you achieve your milestones in life, is slowly making their way to the exit for they have to cheer for another. I am convinced that growing up from a broken family is paining, however every time I encounter that concept, another painful idea came into my mind and this question can explain it, “The family that raised you isn’t broken, but have you ever feel like your family is breaking you?”
I believe that a family is capable of breaking us either emotionally or physically, either that family member is conscious about it or not. They can hurt us in different ways and one of the most common methods of doing so is by comparing. It sucks every time a family member compares us to person who is doing well than us to the point that rather than being motivated to strive for the same achievement, you end up being more disheartened and feel worthless especially if you’re doing your best to achieve something, but they still see is as not enough because other people are doing it better. Second, they can sometimes a bit controlling especially in choosing for the career you’ll take. There are some instances wherein they hinder you from the career that you like for the career that they have in mind is different from your plans either because they don’t see the career that you like isn’t profitable for their liking, etc.
Family is the basic foundation of human society as what school taught us, they are the people who we can count on during those times that it seems like the world is falling apart and there is no glint of hope. Getting back from the short story on the beginning, Ella can’t hate her family for she’s one of the people who believe that despite the shortcomings of our respective families, it is hard to loathe them for we know that their approach might upset us sometimes, we know that they only want the best for us. Yes, it is hard to heal in the same place that wounded you and so it is hard to find happiness in the same place that you lost it but I believe that those are not applicable when it comes to family. At the end of the day, they are still the people that make us see the beauty and the darkness of the world. They have a special place in our hearts simply because they are our family and so they are irreplaceable.

Most importantly, you would know that you are passionate about the career that you choose when it makes you happy. count if the people you love may show you that you can never make it. As John Maxwell once said, “an attitude is little more than a mood or predominant emotion sustained over time. Its roots are in ward but its fruit is outward. It is our best friend or our worst enemy”.
So, what does it mean? You should not be drowned by the negative things that may come on your way they’re just stepping stones to what you really want for!
What about the prejudice? Isn’t it that rumors come from certain things that are somehow true and somehow not? It doesn’t matter! As long as you know that what you’re doing is something that never hurts anyone, just keep going! You should realize that most of the time, people who tend to judge and mock others are those who cannot have the attention that they want. That’s why they focus on pulling down people who keep moving forward.
How are you going to unveil
this system anyway? First, think about the most important reason why you’re still trying to do things, why you keep on going, why you still strive: think
Then, reminisce the moments your most unforgettable days or even nights, may it be the best or the worst. Have you ever thought why you have to undergo those things? Because there will always be a reason behind it and only you can answer such.
Afterwards, ask yourself who are those people who keep on telling you that they’re always here for you? Then try to compare it with those who tell you that you can never improve. Isn’t it that the first type of people is more valuable, more important and closer to your heart? So why bother yourself by what others say?
More importantly, ask yourself the things that matter more. Instead of querying about what you have done wrong or what do you lack, why some people tend to pull me down or whatever, what about asking of what do you have and what you can do to achieve your goal through it?
Apparently, how do you feel when things go your way? What about the feeling when you’re almost there? Come to think of it. The only way to unveil prejudice is not just to prove them wrong, but through realizing within yourself that you are not just like that, because you can be more than that you just got to have to believe you can have that attitude of trying until you still can! Ask yourself the right questions and have the best answers right ahead!
As one of my favorite authors uttered, “The uncreative mind can spot wrong answers, but it takes a creative mind to spot wrong questions.”
Have you ever heard the line that “the ones who are updated are never out of style?” maybe yes for some reason. So what? The trend here is the knowledge itself. Since “knowledge is power”, discovering the importance of media literacy is also a great challenge and privilege to us as budding professionals of our generation the techie generation!

something more than that!
Don’t you know that technology started even before the word itself was being used? Yes, indeed! But what about today’s medium? They are almost invading our daily lives. Almost everything we do and wherever we go uses the technology and its advancements to make our lives easier, works faster and way of living better, yet our inter personal communication somehow worse. Aside fromthoseprosandcons, what do we really need to learn more about our techsavvyworld?
It’s being know ledgeable enough to make use of the advancements that we have to create or foster
an idea on how we can make an impact to our world! Since being information literate acquires critical thinking and a lot more, it’s the same thing with media literacy!
It’s more than just an update of the newest release of Apple’s gadget, thenewesttrend in Youtube or even knowing the best tips for an Instagramable post. It’sjustsomethingthatwe needtodiscover.

Whether you’re an

The vision of a federal form of governance for our country started from our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Since the start of his term, our President, Rodrigo Duterte wants a federalized government, and with his remaining 3 years in the position, it may not be feasible to push federalism anymore. However, a federal form of government, if enacted, will likely prove a bane rather than a boon for our
Federalism is a form of government where significant powers are shared between a federal or central governing authority and the regional or state governments. Under this type of government, Philippines, especially those incapable regions, may not be as geared up for autonomy as others.
According to the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), shifting to a federal government will entail billions of pesos. Cost will be in the range of P44 72 billion, not even considering changes in the judiciary. States will also have to spend for the elections of their officials.
Likewise, studies show that only few states are capable of raising enough taxes to suffice their own needs. In a shift to a federal government, states should have to keep pace with the changes. Poorer states would have to raise their taxes in order to adapt, but that wouldn’t be possible due to lack of natural resources and skilled labors, compared to the richer states. Richer states such as Metro Manila will have more advantage, hence, resulting to uneven development among states.
Division rather than unity is another thing. Regionalism is already challenging the sense of unity in the country. Federalism encourages competition, and it is alienating, leading to increased hostility between ethnic groups in the country, which will further divide the country rather than unite.
Federalism may seem to fit our country well. In reality, however, disadvantages of federalism outweigh its advantages. Compromising benefits such as economic independence, decongestion of Metro Manila, power over funds, and solution to Mindanao conflict come out as great but if we are to consider its establishment, more efforts should be done by our national government in order for the federalism to work. Government should work out first the proposed Equalization Fund which aims to dole out funds to help poorer states.
Rhythm of Our Ethnicity: Reviving Kalutang
Out of two pieces of wood that are strucked against each other, Kalutang was invented. Its sounds and melodies vary, which depends upon the woods' depth and length. Uniquely, these woods came from a very certain endemic tree of Kwatingan which was found at Marinduque. At first, prior to its classification as a cultural instrument, indigenous people of Marinduque used it as a tool to warn signals and leisure. However, it has been said that the first band who introduced this as their organ was the Tirso Band that gave birth to various music that is created using this piece of Kwatingan tree.
In commemoration with that, Professor Allan A. Navida decided to build the Office for Culture and Arts (OCA) in Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) San Juan. His aim was to introduce and strengthen the Culture and Arts which we have here in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the said exhibition for the culture and arts became inactive.
However, this recent month of August, Professor Jane Mendoza decided to revive and showcase the Kalutang instrument again in connection with the event that has a theme of “Wikang Katutubo: Tungo sa Isang Bansang Filipino.” She gathered students who have a skill for playing musical instruments. She made it possible as the students from Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Financial Management (BSBA FM) which are Daryl Clark Abor, Jansen Fortin, Ihsan Isah Zaman, and Dominic Shem Soliva performed various Filipino folk songs, with the use of the Kalutang as musical instrument.
Implicitly, their main objective is to show that our beloved school is not just sort for academics but also in a cultural holistic way. Its purpose was also to embody nationalism to students and give pride to fellow Filipinos and for our country.
Kalutang is a vital part of our culture and we, as a Filipino, have a role to spread its identity. So, for those students who wanted to learn and play indigenous instruments, the said group was still looking and always open to acquire members. To make it more persuading, Daryl one of their fellow members said that, “Dapat hindi natin ikahiya kung ano o sino tayo. Be whoyou are, be Filipino and enlighten it with actions.”
Evidently, our culture speaks not only to our various indigenous instruments but also to the Rhythm of our Ethnicity.

As by Wil Rogers, “Many people spend money they earned to buy things they don’t want just to impress people.” Don’t put something sentimental into something to keep you surviving.
Money circulates everything from your needs down to your wants. You should be wise when it comes to spending and be determined to save it. Be smart about money. Money is something serious and should be takenwellcareof. Learn the do’s and don’ts when it comes to spending your money. You should be wise when it comes to spending money and be determined when saving it. Spend it into something more important and save it for future purposes. It will reflect on how you will become as a future professional. Because according to Jonathan Swift, a wise person should have money in their head, but not in their heart, in short practicality. Because as a Financial Management student, we are already learning how to handle money, so why should we carelessly spend money if we are majors about taking care about this? We are one of those people who will be handling money in a way that others couldn’t, so we shouldbewise anddon’tspend it onto something unnecessary.

Thereupon, these sole proprietors who become partners both tend to forsake things, events, and transactions that are unforeseen, appearing suddenly to the path they do not plan and consequently, creates unwanted casualties, loss and depreciation that unknowingly, builds new memories that will bind their bond.
Likewise, after earning its desired profit, the bond that was built on its long process suddenly goes unstable and disregarded. The essence of this asset that is constantly there who are willingly to be allocated just to fulfill the desired income of its partner will be neglected, unknowingly that in the end, this asset will turn to be an expense an unwanted expenditure that will be set aside after utilizing just to help gain income. Pursuing and settling to the things that we desire is not bad, but acknowledging its cost must always be merited and credited. The friend of yours is not an example of Opportunity cost that was just an option that you can easily trash by selecting alternative over another. Always do remember that proceeding to your next stepping stone is not possible if you do not merit the things that helped you push through. It is not always your goals that matter, sometimes, it is about the cost all the things or people who stayed to you until the end of your journey, matters most. Underestimating costs are evident and losing your investments in assets are inevitable if you will continue to do things your way. Learn to make your value increase before it all become worthless, because the people who helped you are your real income, your secured treasure.
Lastly, give importance in acknowledging the cost before this turned to be underestimated and those investments you struggled to have gone wrong.
Icon in Econ:
JP’s Principles
nce, there lived a man full of hopes and dreams for this country. And we are lucky we got to meet him, or better, some of us got the chance to hear these aspirations.
Prof. Jezreel M. Pattaguan, fondly called Sir JP by his students, teaches various Economics subjects in PUP SJ for almost two years now. He has been teaching for 10 years now. He started teaching at Cagayan State University (CSU) in Tuguegarao City, and began teaching in the campus in 2018. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines, and graduate degree in Public Administration. He is also a licensed Environmental Planner. Currently, he is a Senior Economic Development Specialist at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
When we asked him what he thinks about teaching in PUP SJ, he said he has high regards for the students of PUP. Personally, he thought it might be hard to teach the students who are among the intellectual elite, and that students will be a little liberal. In his two years of teaching, he realized that PUP SJ students are eager to learn and very teachable. They can understand lessons easily and they catch up with the lessons effortlessly. One thing he also loves about teaching in PUP SJ is the culture of generosity and thoughtfulness imbibed in the lifestyle of the students and the faculty.
We asked him what made him go to teaching with the numerous jobs he can actually venture on as an Economics graduate. Sir JP shared that he comes from a family of teachers his mom and dad are both teachers, and aunts and uncles, cousins and pamangkinsfrom both sides of his family are teachers. It didn’t even take long until he decided to go to teaching. He felt he has it within him to go to the noblest profession even after graduating from college.
When we asked him about his motto as a teacher, he shared that he believes not all of students
have the same capacity to comprehend. He sets his target to make sure that at the end of every period, his students learned something new. We also asked how he feels about being awarded one of the teachers with high student evaluation for the previous semester. He said student’s evaluation validates their commitment and hardwork as teachers. “Itfeelsreallygoodknowingthatstudentsappreciatehowweteach”, he said. But with or without validation, he continues to do what he thinks can be his contribution to his community; that is to teach well, and make sure to produce quality citizens that make impact to the community.
He thinks Economics as a subject is difficult to understand in general. And knowing that some of his students are hard up in understanding math and graph, he devices ways to make learning more fun. He believes teaching is a collaborative effort. As long as the teacher does his job well, and the student does his part to learn, then there will be no problem. Giving unoandsingkois normal for him. Anyone in his class who deserves it, gets it.
In the future, Sir JP wants to spend full time on being a teacher. He said it is what he always wanted to do. But for now he believes he has to beef up his experiences so he can be worthy to go back to full time teaching.
concluded.

Danielle Germina Hospitality Management (HM) SocietyMs. Germina is the new elected President of the Hospitality Management (HM) Society. Obedient, patient and a good listener, that is how she described herself as a leader. She said, “Being a leader, you must also be a good follower. You must lead them in each of their tasks, don’t let them feel like they are obliged to do it. Always bring them under your wings, lend your ears to listen, and be there for them, always.” and that’s what a leader should be. Based on her, she is not an achiever, however, on her current college year, being on the Dean’s List is already her accomplishment. As a leader, gaining experiences and friends are the real achievements for her. Having a lot of friends, will also bring a lot of experiences that will lead to various realizations in life. Creating interactions, enabling and opening up herself to listen to her friends’ sentiments about life, supported her to improve and to move along with them. Her chosen project to propose is to have a monthly activity for every organizations, for the students to get to know each other. Her advise to the future leaders is to enjoy their studies, and to always remember that there is no shortcut in reaching their dreams.
“A lot of struggle may be encountered, but always remember that the hardships will be all worth it. Keep on fighting for your dreams.”
Joseph Mattew Pada Governing League of Information Technology Challengers (GLITCH)ou are in that position for a purpose, which is to serve your organization and school. Make the school proud, be the catalyst,” GLITCH President stated as he encourages the future leaders to make use of their power to help people. Mr. Pada described himself as an accessible, fair and
fun kind of leader. “Noblesse Oblige”, is a French expression, which means to act honorably and generously towards others, and that is his vision as leader. He can’t say that he already achieved something unless his term is officially done. Surpassing the first semester, he said “I think I managed to govern my organization (GLITCH) properly and even managed to make my success sor proud due to my activeness.” Mr. Pada and his organization are planning to propound a project that will be beneficial for the school, organizations and even to the city of San Juan. Nevertheless, he cannot tell it yet for it is still on the planning stage. He is also trying to keep some projects open as possible.
Carmelyn Racca Young Educators’ Society (YES) and RotaractShe was the Vice President Internal of the Young Educators’ Society (YES) last academic year, and now she is the newly elected President of YES. Ms.Racca is also the new President of the Rotaract Club of PUP San Juan College of Education. For her, she is an authoritative, responsible and an empowering leader. As a leader, she perceives that “Leadership is growing a new leader.” She considered her greatest achievements are the successful events and programs conducted by their organization, with the help of her co officers and members. If she’ll be given a chance, she wants to pursue a sanitary project, focusing on the health awareness of the students, as well as Eco projects. Her message to the future aspiring student leaders of the school, “Be responsible enough, because leadership is about service altruistic, dedicated and humble service. We are being elected into office, not to be served, but to serve our constituents.”
Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO)Supportive, trustworthy and selfless, are the three suitable words to describe himself as a leader.
Mr. Culala admitted that he didn’t have enough background about leadership, even as a class officer, he has never experienced it before. This is his first academic year as an organization’s president. His first motto in life is “If you can do it, I can do it better.” However, the time he was elected to be the president of the organization, he changed it into “If they can do it, then give it to them.” Since as a president, he said he should be the one to guide what his fellow students or members will going to do, and he should be the one who must tell his officers the right thing to do. He reflects his position as the father of the family, for he learned to become a man in the situation, he needed to be strong as a leader in order to guide his officers. His greatest achievement by now is having himself as a leader, and realizing that he can do much more than just being a follower or a member. He wants to present an Honesty Store as his chosen project. He said his aim is to develop the goodness in the students of PUP San Juan. To wrap it up, he left a message for the future leaders of the school, “Don't think about your famousness just because you're the leader. Think about your community, on what good you can provide in every PUPSJ Student that's the real essence of leadership! Treat people as the ends themselves and never as means for your fame and success.”
Rommel Gonzaga Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX) & Student Assembly (SA)Mr. Gonzaga is on his first term as the newly elected president for the JFINEX and Student Assembly (SA). He is a jolly, adaptable and approachable type of leader. His vision in leading his fellow students to achieve the changes that they’ve been aiming for, was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, which is “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” According to him, some of his achievements are “Being one of the Top 40 outstanding young leaders of ARCYL, and being the NCR Cluster Representative of the PUP system.” The Project entitled “Project: Tulong Estudyante,” aims to assist students not only in academic advancement or tutorial, however, to engage them to the extra curricular activites, that will help them appreciate and share their talents to the university.
This is Mr. Gonzaga’s message for the aspiring leaders of the university, “To my fellow Leaders, I am only here to show you how glorious PUP San Juan was. Glorious days are the years that PUP SJ receives awards not only academically but as well as in extracurricular activities. I know everyone was shocked on how I managed the Student Assembly. Student Assembly is composed not only by the elected officers but the student itself. Being the president of JFINEX and the SA is a hard job to which we need to set priorities which is our academe.” Furthermore, he suggested that, “We need to focus in our studies since that is the main goal that you enrolled in a university, but don’t forget that you need to enjoy and show that you can share your talent and skills through extracurricular activities. Just always remember, know your priorities.”

:
“Isang daan at kalahati…”
Waiting
The refreshing sunny day below the cloud.
A touch of sunlight that makes you proud.
The grooming silent away from the crowd.
A good day indeed, sitting with a fishing rod.
The gaze to the sky has too much appeal. The sweet breeze makes me drool for my meal.
As I saw a stray cat
awaiting for a steal. And I'm here waiting for a fish for our meal.
Hayahay! The time goes by.
The sun will set and say bye bye.
The empty basket is still too dry.
And I'm here waiting for fish to fry.
The rod began to resist, and it really hurts my wrist.
The time I pull it out, I know for sure I caught a fish.
I went home immediately to insist a frying dish.
As I smell the aroma of a delicious kind of feast.
I open my eyes and saw myself under the trees.
Oh! it was a dream!
A really tasty dream! I slept the whole afternoon as I watch the water stream.
I hurried home and I thought I will eat a bunch of fish.
But what I saw was a task to wash a mountain of dish.

When I can’t tell what I’m thinking When I want to call for help
When I lose battling with myself
I’d write
Because there’s no great listener than a blank paper
Equipped with its pureness as white. Mute but indeed a great savior.
Because nothing is mightier than a pen Ready to shed its ink blood, and be emptied
To heal thy wounds that doesn’t bleed. Hiding every secret in the darkest den.
In the end of everything
There’s no better escape than writing
An aid for the grieving That could stop me from leaving.
So many Poems left unsaid.
So many lives so dead.
I don’t think I can let go of my dread.
I will rise up instead.
UNunsaid. They will rise up from the dead! There is nothing to dread. My words are kind when they are said Unsaid Means the door is locked The Darkness blocks No answers to: Knock, Knock!
This time the poetry is recited. The heart jumps! It is excited!
Let me take you Anew. Hold my hand, I promise you We’ll always be together No matter the view.
Long live words
There are things left unsaid
But to you, I speak them instead.

Sports, we all know that this is one of the most trending aspect of every youth during their academic years.Asportisalso helpful for students because it makes us physicallyfitand active. But let us not forget that there are also students who excel at sports, these are who we call student athletes. They trainandcompete, for their name and the school. But, what does it takes to become an athlete?Whatdoesan athlete have to experience to become an “Ath lete”? For those who wanted to know, there are things to consider becoming an athlete.
The first thing that youmusthave is the passion for the sport. You cannotbeanathleteif you do not like the sportyouarein.Itis like you wanted to go fishing but you are in asoccerstadium, kickingaball. You must also be physically
fit and active because you cannot be a competitive athlete if you cannot excel in your sport because of your physical condition. So, folks, try to change your lifestyle if you want tobeanathlete!
The next thing you must have before you become an athlete is discipline. You must have discipline because a real athlete does not have pride. They are willing to learn from their mistakes, accept criticism and strive for their own development and improvement. A real athlete also never gives up on every failure. As a matter of fact, a real athlete will takethatasanopportunity for improvement, as a tool for their successinthefuture.
The last thing to have what it takes to become an athlete is that you are able to balance your academics with games, trainings and drills. Athletes who give their best
from day one until the end of their careers commonly have a good athletic career. It is because they are enthusiastic on what they are doing. They love the sport, and they connect it to their lives, withoutruining the other aspect.
As you can see, there are student athletes who focus too much on their sports and ends up forgetting their academic courses That is a big NoNo for an athlete because if you cannot balance your academic life in to your athletic life, you cannot be an athleteatall.
That’sit! There arestill manythings to consider to become an athlete but here are the essential ones. Always remember that an athlete never backs down to a single defeat, always striving for success and most of all, giving everything they got to win.
