PUP San Juan Participates at the 3rd MBC Youth Broadcast Journalism Workshop at Tagaytay City!
Cristine Francel C. PimentelPolytechnic University of the Philippines San Juan Campus participated in the 3rd MBC Youth Broadcast Journalism Workshop held last May 26 to 28, 2018 at the Development Academy of the Philippines, Tagaytay City.
The workshop was organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company in training future journalist to be one of the best in the country. There is said to be over 1 60 participants from 36 different col leges and universities from Luzon has joined the workshop.
During the first day of the workshop, the first resource speaker was Senator Cynthia Villar , in which she tackled about “Connecting the Youth through Responsible Journalism”. Our second speak er was Mr. Efren that discussed about how and what we should know in terms of cyber-crimes, and how we could possibly avoid being hacked online. He also taught us about how to protect ourselves online and secure our accounts, but at the end of his lecture Mr. Efren said to us that we should be more respon sible on what we post online to avoid making mis takes which is very relevant in today’s time, where in just one click, your life could be ruined. And of course, the founder of Polytechnic University of the Philippines San Juan Campus, Senator Joseph Vic tor (JV) Gomez Ejercito was also invited to give a heart-warming speech, saying “One must be a good listener to be a good leader” . He said in his speech that the most precious resource is human resource in which he explained how much he values the educa tion of the citizens and that in San Juan City, there should be at least one college graduate in every fam ily.
Senator Kiko Pangilinan was also one of the speakers that day, he mainly discussed about the effects of social media, technology and how it is a critical key to social change. He gave a heartfelt speech about us, young journalists. The last speaker was Gema Mendoza , who tackled about fighting fake news especially today, where in social media in just one click, we can spread wrong information. Mendoza stated that “ Fake news if becomes the truth of the people, justifies wrong information”
On the 2nd day, Mr. Raymund Liboro was our first speaker for the day, he tackled about our right to privacy. He tackled many things such as 30 ways to love ourselves on social media. Mr. Michael Angelo , an actor from one of the biggest television companies here in the Philippines, he even empha sized that “ The real power of journalism is the truth” . The last speaker, one of the organizers, Dennis Antenor also gave us lessons on how to handle a journalism organization, whether in may be On-Air programs, online and On-ground.
On the 3rd day, the first speaker was Mr. Rudolph Ju larbal , who talked about Powerful Media and how broadcast is a pervasive and invasive medium. He also tackled about the respon sibilities that is attached to us young journalist. Mr. Jularbal emphasizes that “One rights ends where the rights of others begin” , in which he added that the freedom of the press, speech and expression is limited by the right of the state to survive, thus National Security is an inherent limitation on the constitu tional rights. “Highest freedom that no one can interfere is the freedom of thought” Jularbal added. The second speaker was Senator Nancy Binay about cyberbullying, in which she said she experienced personally. The talk of Ms. Binay had me think ing that us, Filipinos, as the saying goes, “THINK BEFORE WE CLICK” , because we might not know that we are hurting someone by making memes about the person, in which Ms. Binay added that those instances inspired her to be an advocate and partic ipate in the anti-cyberbullying. Senator Bam Aquino one of the speakers, gave us some few tips: “MAKE TRUTH JUCIER THAN GOSSIPS”
Senator Bam Aquino added that “Make healthy debate more exciting than name calling” and most especially, he gave us this one advice as future journalists to “Love the truth, excel lence and to love the Filipino people.”
It seems like yesterday when we arrived early at the Ma nila Broadcasting Company, when we were so shy and nervous to meet new people, though we will miss the people whom we worked with for 3 consecutive days, the friendship we made, the learn ings we acquired and the bond will always have a special place in our heart. And us, the PUPSJ young journalists, are proud to say that we are a DZRH certified Youthcaster!
Kapitbayan, A talk about our country’s history and culture and the rise of San Juan’s Center of Studies
-Arvin Gatoc-Last August 23- 25, KAPITBAYAN (KASAYSAYANG LOKAL ngTundo, Marikina at San Juan) hosted a talk about “KasaysayangPampook at PamanangKultural” at the PUP San Juan Multipurpose Hall. The talk lasted for three days which started on Wednesday( August 23 2018) and ended on August 25 2018.
It was a talk where various representative of research and history from the different regions of the Philippines. The three day talk tackled different topics per day, on the talk’s first day Mr. Romeo P. Pena, a professor and chief of Center for Social History, Insti tute for Culture and Language Studies in PUP Manila started the talk with his topic about the Biography making; ways , importance and the research about it. His talk mainly focused on biographical works and even highlighted biographical works of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal. And even left the audience a question about what’s real in Rizal’s biography. Right after Mr. Pena’s talk, even more speakers discussed in front each of them tackling the rich history of the three localities; Tundo, Marikina and San Juan.
The second day of the event marked the rise of the Center for San Juan Studies, which paved the way for wider and better con nections with other related institutions namely KAMAKASAMA and SAKATUNDO .The day was divided into two plenary. The first plenary was headed by Dr. Vicente C. Villan, a professor and head of the Department of History at the University of the Philippines Diliman, who intensified the importance of acknowledging local history. He stated that it may be to old fashioned for others but for those who truly appreciates one’s origin it will never be archaic. The second plenary emphasized on the diversity of the three localaties. And during the last day August 25, 2018, the talk ended was move to another venue which was at the “MuseongKatipunan- Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine” and the visitors were given a museum tour together as the giving of certificate to the participants. It was a successful event that made new bonds and strengthen the chains of it as well.
Filipino Language Also Can: Culminating Activity of Buwan ng Wika
In our Filipino lives, one thing is always true: We are giving much more importance in our fluency or competence to English language compared to our own Filipino language. It’s just alarming that we’re looking down to the abilities of our own language over foreign languages and this is now the most prominent intellectualization problem of our national language, Filipino. According to some researches, students nowadays are not really into doing thesesthat uses Filipino medium because most of their academical works and writings including theses are written in English. Filipinos are more used to English terminologies because it’s obvious that in our educational system English is the medium of instruction. Sadly, we are way more familiar to English vocabularies and more conscious to our English grammar than our Filipino grammar.
Last August 29, 2018, the culminating activity for the Buwan ng Wika in PUP San Juan which was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall paved its way to educate our fellow PUPians about the importance of using Filipino language to strengthen our nationalism for our country. In relevance to the theme of Buwan ng Wika 2018: “Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik (Language of Research)”, seminars were conducted by Pro fessor Dios Mabalos and Professor Axle Christien Tugano. They talked about the feasibility of our own language to be the medium used in researches and other academic writings in our country.
The first speaker, Prof. Mabalos focuses on the importance of writing researches about the local history of our country using the medium of our own language. We have known about the foreigners who wrote researches about our local history and received recognitions for doing so. If they are able to write about us, why can’t we? That’s the main point of Prof. Mabalos in his seminar, he mentioned that each local has unique history that is independent in our national history. By that, everyone is encouraged to write and research about it because this will reflect the way how Filipino live their lives in every corner of our nation.
He also quoted a statement from Dr. Marcelino Foronda, DLSU Professor: “In truth, we may never achieve a fuller understanding of the Philippines and of the Filipinos if we fail to study the history of our town and our provinces.”
Likewise, Prof. Tugano, last speaker of the event, talked about how to create a research about our local history and what are the struggles we are facing on creating one. He mentioned the lack of resources for local studies and the irony of having tons for foreign studies. Looking through that, we should be aware that we need to create more local researches in our coun try. Also, he discussed the methodologies to create a local research and shown examples of researches he made that is written in Filipino language. In that case, we realize that it is possible to use our own language to compete against other languages for intellectualization. It’s not only in English that we can write our academic writings but also in our national language Filipino.
Accordingly, the event helped to shape the students of PUP San Juan to know the importance of flourishing our own Filipino language through extensively writing local researches using our own language. This is a great step in order to give significance and develop Filipino in the next generation while keeping in pace with other languages.

Labor Education Seminar for Graduating students
By: Mary Chile Q. PanisBeing a graduating student requires a lot of preparation and hard work to face the next journey of their lives, that’s why PUP San Juan Campus held a 3-Days Seminar about Personality Development for graduating students entitled “THE NEW ME: VERSION 2.0” in cooperation with DOLE, PESO San Juan Mngr. Divinia B. Monteagudo, PESO San Juan Angeline Ma. Zeta, our very own PUP San Juan Dir. Jaime Gutierrez and PUP San Juan Guidance Counselor, Donna Arellano. Led by the following guest speakers from RDZen Training and Consultancy Services, Coach Richard Liquete and Coach Dianne Leal, the said Seminar focuses on different advices and tips in looking for a job. They also discussed the proper attire for both women and men and the proper grooming. At the end of the seminar the guest speakers choose some of the students from different courses to act out an interview and practice their communication skills.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND TEAM BUILDING
They welcome the great day ahead with an opening prayer. Followed by a warm up exercise led by Mr. Jaime Delos Reyes to ready the body for some recreational activities waiting for students. After relinquishing the body, a brief speech is delivered by both Mr. Jaime Delos Reyes and Ma’am Donna Arellano, the guidance counsellor of PUP San Juanfilled the minds of the young leaders with motivation and passion, which helped understand the meaning of every task.
The young leaders were first asked to group themselves into 5 groups with 10 members each. Each group were asked to think of a name that represents their motives as a harmonized individual cooperating to finish a certain objective. The first activity is the “Flag and Tower” were in they needed to create the flag and the tower simultaneously, while protecting the treasure (egg), to avoid point deduction.
The chosen leaders were assigned to find materials in their venue, PUP-SJ ground, and used it to as building blocks for the said tower.Another challenging and fun game that tested the teamwork of the young leaders was the Sponge Relay, which had to fill a bottle with water from a basin using a spongze. The “water relay” also had the same mechanics with the previous one.
The “Balance Bin” challenged them to concentrate and focus on the instruction of their leader while balancing the basin filled with water. These outdoor activities tested the flexibility of the participants to adapt in different situations and calmly plan their actions. The calmness of the mind of each participant was seen in their teamwork.
The young leaders experienced some formidable walls for them to breakthrough and learn so much from the program. Their cooperationled their teams to rejoice stunningly for their victories. They might had felt fatigue but the igniting passion inside them was clearly seen in their eyes. The lit of fire inside their heart justifies the potential of everyone to become a “leader”. John Maxwell once said, “Leader becomes great, not because of their power but their ability to empower others”. Effective leaders have different personalities that leave impacts to their people. Indeed,Leaders were made that day.

Bachelor of Science in Education Major in English and Math Conducted Seminar Series at Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) San Juan Campus
-Joshua Keanu V. Sumague-Last October 8-12, 2018, BS in Education Major in English and Math conducted seminar series to spread awareness and information on various topics that affect the students.
This seminar series focuses on the Principles of Guidance and Values Education which aims to guide students on the right path. It intends to help the students understand themselves regarding to their strengths and limitations and the ability to direct themselves on solving problems and making their own decisions in life. Since the job of teachers do not stop on just imparting knowledge to students the education students of PUP wanted to help the other students on any possible way they can, they searched for different issues or topics that would somehow improve student’s emotional, mental, and physical condition, with the supervision of their professor Ms. Anna Madonna Arellano. Each topic was carefully chosen by the group of speakers and they were assigned to different programs/courses.
The topics on the seminar series are: (1) “Cyber Bullying: Stop, Look, Understand” which talked about the signs of cyber bullying, impacts of cyber bullying, ways how we should react on cyber bullies, the audience in this seminar was BSENT 1-1; (2) “Unveiling: What’s Behind the Mask” which talked about the ways how to develop personality and control emotions such as engaging fear, concealing hatred, and unleashing curiosities, the audience in this seminar was BSA 1-1; (3) “After the Rave: Drug Awareness Campaign” which talked about the physical and mental effects of illegal drugs to people and why we should avoid it, the audience in this seminar was BSHM 1-2; (4) “Self-Worth: Nakalimuntan Ko nang Kalimutan Ka” which talked about the ways how to gain your self-worth and its importance in your life, the audience in this seminar was BSA 1-2.
The other topics on the seminar series are: (5) “What do you MEME? – Self Awareness on Multimedia and Entertainment”; (6) “Reaching the Star in Finishing College”; (7) “The Day After Depression”; (8) “Hugot pa rin ba, o Totoo na? Ang Solusyon Sa Mga Hugot ni Ate at Kuyang Marupok”; (9) “Divergent: Reading Others, Writing Yourself”; (10) “The Hows of Asks: Life is not about how you survive the storm, it’s about how you dance in the rain”.
This seminar series became successful because the speakers had put their effort in researching information that would totally help the students to understand and assess themselves. Of course this won’t be possible without the supervision of Prof. Anna Madonna Arellano who pro vided all the needs of the speakers. Prof. Arellano gave certificates to the speakers as an appreciation for their effort in imparting awareness and information on students.
Pulang Laso: HIV Awareness
HIV awareness Seminar was conducted to freshmen students of PUP San Juan Campus last January 31, 2019. This is a project of Rotary and Rotaract Club of Greenhills in partnership with City of San Juan Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, Local Youth Club Development Council, City of San Juan Social Hygiene Clinic, JCI San Juan Katipuneros and Polytechnic University of the Philippines -San Juan Campus.
PASSIONATE DULCE
Raised from a cultured Spanish family, the 59 year old English Professor Maria Dulce V. Aristorenas was awarded as one of this year’s outstanding professors.
Growing up in a disciplined family, she described herself as the naughtiest among her five siblings. She was usually the one who broke the rules. Her mother is a disciplinarian but not that overly strict, she worked as a teacher in an exclusive school. Her father was among the top 10 bar exam passers along with the late former President Marcos who topped it. Marcos remembered his father and even offered him a seat in his cabinet, but his father turned it down. The healthy relationship of their parents made them love each other as brothers and sis ters. “I grew up in a household where there is peace in the entire family. It was a happy family,” Dulce reminisced.
Brilliant Dulce graduated as a summa cum laude at St. Joseph’s College with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. Fresh from college, she hosted two television shows, one in the morning called “Good Morning Manila”and at noon time called “Noon Time Special”.
While hosting, she had theatre on the side. Dulce loves theatre so much that she invested a huge amount of money in watching Les Miserables. “It was so beautiful –it touches your heart and it’s done by singing. When they act and their bodies move, they are so professional. Their bodies move so well and the facial expressions are excel lent. But more than that, the songs are excellent,” Dulce said. Aside from watching live theatre performances, she was a theatre performer herself.
She worked with Reperrtory Philippines in Maka ti. She was one of the three performers who played in “The Vagina Monologues” that got featured in CNN. they also performedin Hongkong and Singapore. She recalled that they were afraid in the beginning that that nobody would watch it, but the theatre on the first day was filled. They had full houses and standing ovations the following days. “They were so filled with it, and sometimes they would recite a line on one of the monologues. We felt fulfilled,” Dulce remembers11
Dulce then made a career shift to advertising where she worked as a producer. As a producer, she was in-charge of the television and radio commer cials. She remembered handling commercial projects with Coca Cola and Proctor & Gamble products in the 70’s.
“You know when you are assigned to a company like Coca Cola, you are assigned to the highest client and they trust you very much in order for you to work with the Coca Cola ac count,” Dulce said. After post-production, their commercial ad was sent to the main branch abroad to get their opinion. Fortunately, Dulce’s team always got thumbs ups.
Dulce recalled her experience, “It’s stressful because you have to always manage time and the time given to you to work are very short times. And when you’re given a project, your time is just hanging by your head. Like me when I produced commercials, I would always be 24 hours awake for 3 straight days and my only break is to go home to take a shower.”
Dulce proudly claims that her son is her greatest achievement and happiness. “As a mother, I may have been strict, but with him I gave him leeway so he would enjoy his life. I just didn’t really embrace the strictness of the past work I had,” she added. In spiteof the fact that some of her jobs didn’t pay well and being a single parent at the same time, she managed to send her son to college who just finished a degree in photography. After spending years in media, she followed the footsteps of her mother and started teaching. She handled classes inMass Communication and Theatre in colleges like St. Joseph’s College, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University. Current ly, she worksas one of the faculty members at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines SanJuan Campus.
When asked about why she chose PUP, she answered “I love teaching so when the time came I grabbed it. It is something that doesn’t pay well, but then it’s your passion that brings you into teaching.”
Ma’am Dulce as her students call her, teach es with passion and hopes that her class will make an effort to be the best that they can be.“When you love teaching, you’d teach no matter what. Salary doesn’t matter to me. Sometimes I work and I don’t know much I’m earning. I just receive my salary. I don’t even bother to count,”Dulce said.
When asked if she has plansof retiring, she swiftly answered“No”. Age for her doesn’t matter. “I’m not saying I’m goingto stop at 65. Well my health is not in top shape but I am able to overcome that with my spirit,” Dulce said.
A few years ago, Dulce had an open heart surgery. She was operated for her pacemaker which regulates the beating of her heart. For a while, she was “hinay-hinay” but after that she went back to her old pace. She pride herself for never being afraid of her pacemaker. She would just do what she wanted to do without thinking if she’s exerting too much.
She decided that since she already has a pacemaker, no one will stop her.“I’m not scared if this pacemaker breaks down. If it’s time for me to go then that’s okay. I’ve abused it so much but yet it hasn’t stopped.”Dulce doesn’t even mind going upstairs just to be on her classes.“You just go over your physical limitations and you get your dreams,” she added.
Dulce takes pride of PUP, that students really work in their classroom and that the teachers are very well dedicated. “So you can’t say that PUP is a pub lic school because it is not just a public school, it is a disciplined learning center,” she commended. Her advice to students is to have passion for learning. “Without passion for learning, you will not learn the entire class. You should want to study, you should want to do excellently, you should want to make sure that your parents are happy about the way you are,” she said.
She also left her fellow teachers an advice –“They should not to lose their passion for teaching. Because if they lose, then what they’re doing is just playing teaching – and that’s not good.” - (Myron Danielle L. Montefalcon)
Another Milestone for PUP San Juan: The Signing of MOA
A dream of the former mayor JV Ejercito, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in San Juan became one of his achievements as it became the only community college of the locality. It was established in 2008. Now, on its 11th founding anniversary, after years of service and dedication to equip students the necessary skills they need for progress, Mayor Guia Gomez, together with the San Juan Government officials and the PUP Main Campus officials, signed the MOA or the Memorandum of Agreement for Renewal granting PUP San Juan for another 12 years to provide free, but quality education to the deserving and qualified Filipino.
The event took place during the Testimonial 2019, where the passers of CPA and BLEPT testified their success as products of PUP San Juan, at the PUP San Juan Main Lobby. It was attended by students of BSA (Bachelor of Science in Accountancy), BSED EN and MT (Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English and Mathematics), the PUP San Juan Campus officials and academes, the San Juan Government officials, distinguished guest, and CPA & BLEPT passers. An inspirational message from Ms. Anna Madonna M. Arellano, Office of the Student Service Head, and Mr. Jaime P. Gutierrez Jr., PUP San Director shared the triumphs of the “Sintang Paaralan ng San Juan”.
After the signing of the MOA, a tribute was given to the “Ina ng PUP San Juan” Mayor Guia P. Gomez. A video presentation showed her life and her commitment to treat PUP San Juan like her own sons and daughters. A graceful smile, then let her remind the PUP San Juan community that even though she would step down as mayor of San Juan she will still be the mother of our beloved PUP San Juan.
(Joaquin Lugay)PUPSJ Accepting Differences -Jaime Yahen-
Crown, killer high heels, flaunted wigs, hot bodies and over the top evening gowns, these are the things that covered the last 11th founding anniversary of Polytechnic University of the Philippines San Juan Campus, held at the PUP San Juan Grounds last February 23, 2019. Mr. and Ms. PUP-San Juan is annually celebrated during the foundation week of the campus. Every year new surprises are being added in the said pageantry. Mr. and Ms. PUP-San Juan 2019 themed “Beyond Beauty and Spectacle” embraces a new image and accepted the LGBTQ community as part of the pageant. They added the Queens to participate and showcase beauty, talent and spectacle.
The Mr. and Ms. PUP San Juan seven lovely pairs stand tall and proudly represented their courses. But as the night ends, only two remain standing in front of the stage, crowned and ready to rule the PUP-San Juan campus. Mr. Michael Angelo P. Amparo from Bachelor of Science in Accountancy was crowned Mr. PUP San Juan 2019, and Ms. Alyssa Katrine D. San Andres from Bachelor of Science in hospitality management stand as the Ms. PUP San Juan 2019. Both walked their ways towards the crown and gave their best looks and smiles to wards the crowd and captured the judges’ hearts.
For the highlight of the night, five stunning queens raised and walked their way towards the crown. With their amazing talents, cat walks, photoshoot, avant-garde and intelligence they surprised us and showed us what a true queen can do. “What’s a queen without her king? A queen of course”. But as we all know, castles are only ruled by a single queen. In the end only one stand tall and crowned as the first ever Queen of PUP-San Juan, Jerome Batallones form Bachelor of Science in hospitality management. With her stunning hair and Georges mermaid cut dress, she captured, not only the judges’ heart but also the audience’s heart with her inspiring answer during the question and answer portion.
Crowned and proud, Mr., Ms., and Queen of PUP-San Juan 2019 roamed the campus and showed that being crowned does not mean you are a head of the other students, but for these three, they roamed the campus and shared their experiences, knowledge and humbleness towards other students and inspired aspiring Mr., Ms., and Queen of PUP-San Juan 2020.

PUPSANJUANSHSVICTORY!
Last November 26, 2018 the Anti-Drug Summit was held at San Juan Gymnasium. The said event focuses on the message “Listen First: Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.” San Juan City held its very first Short Film Competition for the Anti–Drug Campaign. Different schools, barangays and organizations in San Juan were invited to participate. The Senior High School students of PUP San Juan Campus came up with the story of a police father, and his son, Paul. The theme of the story is the Extra Judicial Killing situation here in the Philippines. Paul is thirsty for the love and attention from his father who is always busy at his work. The five minutes short film captured the audience’s attention and give huge impact to the audience. Among all of the participants, the entry of PUP SHS entitled, NASAAN KA?” got the victory. It is both pleasure and honor for the team to win the first ever San Juan Anti–Drug Campaign Short–Film Competition. PUP San Juan Senior High School’s isko and iska proved that Kabataan is still the Pag-asa ng bayan.
S. Mostrado-Online Games as Means of Online Harassment
By: Francesca Louise MangarinIn our generation more and more gadgets and technolo-gies are rising and being developed around the globe. To-gether with these technologies are online games. Online games are played around the country, especially be the youth. Preschool, high school, and even college students are in to online games. Online games like Dota 2, League of Legends, and other RPG games are very popular in many players, not only men but also women.
This comes when women are being harassed in game. Yes. Some female gamers are being harassed by others may not be sexually but verbally. This may be normal for other gamers but for some this is a big issue. One case has been filed in Japan where a student has been stalked through an online game. The man send malicious messages to the girl like “I want to have s*x with you right now”. This has been filed as an online sexual harassment. It was re-ported that the man had been traced and been imprisoned already. But may this be a reminder for women to always be careful and aware of such scenarios.
Seesaw’s Image
by: Francesca Louise MangarinUp, down, up and down, that’s what we are. Sometimes were balanced, sometimes were not-but still together. I didn’t intend to tell you I’ve fallen for you, it just happened, don’t know why. My heart beats like a million stereos when you started courting me. May be this is the time that I will give myself to you “Yes”- one week, one month, and one year. Up, down, up and down, that is what we are. Ups and downs, sugar and spice, we fight, we cuddle, perfectly imperfect. You found another girl, sweeter than sugar when I heard you talking on your phone- I remember our first call, sweeter than now. Sharing “I love you”, sharing arguments. But this time that is not me, but her. She can be me, but I’ll never be you “I’ll fetch you after dismissal” “okay, see you”. Up, down, up and down. I found another boy, sweeter than sugar when I first met him- I remember our first meeting, sweeter than ever, holding hands, making space. But this time this is not you, but him. He can’t be you, but you can be him “will you be my 4girlfriend?” “Yes!” I hated you, you hated me. Up, down, up and down. Were back! Still together, saying sorry, giving I love you, one year, six months, and two years, full of love, bit of arguments. “I’ll never let you go” “I’ll never let you go more than you can”. More matured, more childish. Added faithfulness, lessen the bad things, three years, four years. Up, down, up and down. Here we are, standing still, holding on, and not letting each other go. Well, this is what we are, going ups and downs, different but at once, as children in the playground we go up and down like an image of a seesaw.
The Rights of Marriage
Marriage is considered to be a sacred ritual for a couple who loves each other so much. During the past we know that marriage only occurs between a man and a woman. But nowadays we have this LGBT community or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community that fight for the right to marry the person you love.
Marriage is not just for a man and a woman, but for two people who love each other. For many if not most people, moreover, marriage is not a trivial matter. It is a key to the pursuit of happiness, some-thing people aspire to—and keep aspiring to, again and again, even when their experience has been far from happy. We say that marriage should not be based with its gender, because in our generation love does not remain between a man and a woman. Marriage can be considered a key to the pursuit of happiness, if you are happy with the person you love without thinking what other people might say about you, and your partner.
How Can I Prepare Myself in Adulthood?
One of the greatest struggles of students is to face adulthood. In fact, I have seen a lot of memes on Facebook about it such as “don’t grow up, it’s a trap”. Others can’t even decide what they will do after they finish college which is a big dilemma because planning should always be a part of our life. It seems like most students experience quarter-life crisis at an early age. Since graduation is near and a lot of students will now face the real battlefield of life I like to give some tips that may help you to prepare yourself for the struggles of adulthood.
1.Improve your critical thinking
Learning to think critically is the best weapon we could possibly have in the world. Everyday we are fac ing various situations which require us to decide. Some of those are simple but others are too serious that will have great impact in our lives, such as which company should I apply or will amending our constitution improve our country? To make better decisions, we have to apply critical thinking that will allow us to rely on reasons and information rather than on emotional appeal or deceitful results. Moreover, critical thinking will help us to discern bias and manipulation that we often see in social media.
2.Take full responsibility in your life
Just like what Winston Churchill stated, “The price of greatness is responsibility”. Reminding ourselves that we are the only ones responsible in our actions and decisions will allow us to seek what is the best for us. Taking full responsibility in our lives will drive us to push ourselves and improve everytime. It will encourage us to wake up every single day even though we are so tired so that we can continue to work for our dreams.
3.Manage your time wisely
Each one of us has only 24 hours to consume every day. Let’s assume that we spend 9 hours every day for our studies and 8 hours for sleep. Now, the important question to ask is, what are you doing in the remaining 7 hours? Do you use it to check your notifications on facebook if someone likes your post? Or do you use it to exercise and search for new knowledge that you cannot learn in school which will help you to attain your goals faster? Ask your self! Only you can answer that.
4.Take risks
Sometimes we face situations where we have to make decisions that will either immensely improve or drastically de stroy our lives. The important thing we have to learn is when we should take risks. Before we take risks we have to consider the possible implications. Imagine the situation where you already had made your decision and ask yourself questions such as “Is the result more valuable than the risk? Or Does it really worth it?”
5.Believe in yourself
Sometimes the only thing that separates us to our dreams is self-doubt. Maybe because we listen more to what other people say than to focus on what we can actually do. If you know that you are willing to give your all and sacrifice every thing, then, go ahead achieve your passion, have some confi dence, and ignore the noise. Whether you want to be a successful entrepreneur, a certified public account, a great web developer, or a brilliant teacher you have to believe first that it is possible for you to achieve that. Don’t ever allow anyone to say that you can’t do something because you lack the ability. The time is moving, so believe in yourself and prove your naysayers wrong. Of all the things I have written here there is one easy technique to evaluate your own progress towards becoming a real adult. That is, to look on your daily habits and routines. I know that it is not easy, in fact, I felt guilty when I had writ ten this article because I know that I also lack in most of these. However, that’s the reason why we are alive to ensure that we will work hard every day to improve ourselves and to get what we deserve. Always remember that being an adult isn’t about having a luxurious cars, enormous mansion, fancy clothes or getting a lot of money. Being an adult is all about taking full responsibility of your life and pushes yourself beyond limits.
PATAWAD
Love is A Responsibility
By: Ma. Franz Vernice A. PardianDo you think love is a responsibility? F or me, yes, why? As I can see, when you choose to love some one, you also choose responsibility. Love is not a game to play but a responsibility to take. We all know that love is an intense feeling of deep affection. Love can be pleasurable. Love can be pure pain. Love is without judgment. Love trust and believes all things. Love will end its own life for the one being loved and love wants only what is best for the one being loved.
But what is the real meaning of love is a responsibility?
Love is a responsibility, neither privilege nor a reward, pleasure or pain. Love is a beautiful set of contradictions often misinterpreted or taken for granted. Love can radiate the warmth of life or cast the looming shadows of reality. It is a responsibility we all commonly share and gladly burden ourselves with, just so we will be loved as well. It is an endless amiable cycle made by mankind to move forward as one. Love is who are, what we are, and what we will be.
Love is likewise a wonderful feeling. It makes you smile, laugh, giggle and strong. It makes your life complete. Love does not lose hope but makes you believe and gives you hope. Love is full of sacrifices for the sake of your love. Love is not selfish. It is forgiving and forgetful. Love turns your fake smile into a real one. Love is accepting ones’ flaws and imperfections. Love does not judge, doubt and hate, it is forgiving and un derstanding. Love is everything that matters because in every pain, sacrifices, loneliness and tears you have, it will become a scar in your heart and at the same time it will become meaningful in your life.
EDITORIAL
Under appreciated Authority Sheldaine N. HabawelTeachers are used to being on the sharp end of public criticism. Whether students fail an exam, not being able to pass the subject or complete the requirements needed, the finger ALWAYS points at teachers for not doing their job. No wonder most teachers feel their profession is under- appreciated by society despite of their time and efforts in the field.
We do not only expect our teachers to educate learners, we also demand that they make up for students failure, parenting deficiencies and society’s problems. Sure! There’s no perfection in life, we might find our teachers giving too much school works, having high expectation towards his/her students, assigning difficult activities, scolding us of our failures and a lot more, causing students to feel frustrated, upset, annoyed, discouraged and even feel angry towards their teacher.
The question is, “How much do you know about them as their student?” Perhaps we should start by recognizing the difficulty of the task teachers face for us to stop blaming them for everything. Students should be aware that teach ers can’t do their job on their own; we cannot expect them to solve our problems or fix our own future. If their job is to teach and act as a guide for us to learn, we also have our job to learn and do our responsibilities as students.
Teachers have a unique job, for the future generation lies on their hands. They shape the minds of the children that will one day have big dreams that might change the world. But in order for that to happen, they have to use their own money and resources to provide the class with tools and materials needed for the students to learn effectively, they need to have patience and understand ing for everyone to learn, they have to prepare their lessons everyday and to spend most of their time at school. They have a huge impact to the children and to all learners, so why are they still underpaid and under - appreciated?
Aside from the issues about teachers not being the country’s priority. Most students in today’s generation do not see the struggles of they teachers. All they think about is passing the needed requirements, and they’re done! Not thinking there is someone who helped them and led them towards their success. Others think that they never learn from them, without realizing the fact that their teachers provide them topics and information for them to learn. In most cases, there are students who feel angry, frustrated, discouraged and upset because of their teacher; they are only looking at the negative side rather than what they can learn and will achieve in the future by the help of the lessons, hardships and experiences they had during their time with their instructor.
It’s so disappointing that most learners who are always in front of their teacher are also the ones who are downgrading them. If teaching is constantly under-appreciated then many dedicated teachers will eventually decide to be cold-hearted towards teaching. Most teachers love their job but feel under-ap preciated, unsupported and unrecognized. They deserve to be acknowledged and recognized for all their sacrifices and efforts for the students and communi ty. Nobody would be where they are now without their teachers.
The Latest Batch Of Licensed Teachers!
Sheldaine N. HabawelLicensure tests are usually one of the several criteria necessary to qualify an entry into the teaching profession. High percentage of passers in the Licen sure Examination for Teachers (LET) indicates the competence of the Teacher Education Program (TEP) graduates of State Colleges and Universities.
