PECK ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2021

With Gratitude DEAR PECK COMMUNITY, When we welcomed back students and faculty to campus in the fall of 2020, our goal was to keep our community safe and our doors open to deliver an exceptional education for every student at Peck. We were able to do just that with great thanks to the extraordinary partnership and generosity of our community. It was a record-breaking year for The Peck Fund, which shattered goals and set an alltime Peck high by exceeding $1.2 million. Each gift allowed us to invest in the health and safety measures necessary to keep our community together, and to allow our students to learn in person; for that, we are so grateful. You overwhelmingly answered our call for support on our Giving in Gratitude Day with 209 gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends, totaling $422,922—more than The Peck Fund has ever raised in a single day! With that support, in addition to the incredible $150,000 Trustee match, your generosity added up to $572,922 for our students and faculty, showing that when the Peck community comes together, we can achieve great things. Although gatherings, teaching, and learning looked different during the 2020-21 school year, parents, faculty, and staff alike committed to maintaining connections while providing a joyful experience for our students during those uncertain times. We are deeply indebted to our Parents Association for tirelessly coming up with creative, virtual ways that kept our community connected, and for their unwavering support of our faculty and staff. A strong culture of philanthropy and engagement is one of The Peck School’s hallmarks, and it was championed by former Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations Joan Smith Myers. Joan guided Peck through two capital campaigns, partnered with countless Parents Association volunteers, planned many memorable gatherings and reunions, forged meaningful connections with parents, alumni, grandparents, colleagues, and friends of Peck, and raised over $10 million for The Peck Fund during her tenure. We are deeply grateful for Joan’s 14 years of dedication and service, and we wish her all the best in her retirement. Please join me in welcoming Director of Advancement Sarah Quinn Clausen, a seasoned independent school professional with deep ties to the Morristown area. Sarah is eager to make connections within the community, and to build upon Peck’s strong foundation of philanthropy and community engagement. We are thrilled to have her leading Advancement, and we know even more fundraising success lies ahead for Peck with Sarah in this role. On behalf of all of Peck’s students, faculty, and staff, thank you for your continued spirit of generosity. With gratitude,

Andrew C. Delinsky Head of School

2020-2021 ANNUAL REPORT

From the Board President AFTER BEING ASSOCIATED with The Peck School for over a decade, I cannot be more proud of a community that is not only surviving this incredibly challenging time, but continuing to grow, strengthen, and re-invent itself to ensure the future success of this institution. Under the guidance of Andy Delinsky and Peck’s leadership, we revamped what excellence in education looks like while supporting our children, community, faculty, and administration. Your record-setting generosity, with over a million dollars donated to The Peck Fund for the first time in our history, is a testament to our strength and belief in a Peck education. COVID-19 touched every aspect of our lives including the way we shop, how we socialize, all aspects of work, and of course, our children’s education. Distance learning, masks, plexiglass, and lunch in the classroom were all changes that we faced. But the one thing that remained constant and consistent was knowing that The Peck School was doing everything in its power to deliver quality education grounded in values and character development. Like all schools, we faced adversity and challenges for which there were no previous strategies that could be utilized. However, guided by Andy, the Board, and the COVID Task Force, we navigated these questions to deliver in-person learning while keeping our community safe and healthy. The Peck School is defined by excellence in education guided by values, and a community that fills our lives with friendships and relationships that last a lifetime. This community is dependent on the work of the PA which allows us to connect, grow, and lean on each other. Virginia Cepeda (PA President 2020-2021) and the PA worked tirelessly to pivot and reimagine community events that have defined the Peck experience. Their work allowed us to stay connected, through which we found strength and joy. It truly amazes me to think about the philanthropic nature of our community. In her last year at Peck, Joan Myers and the Advancement team worked together to inspire our community’s generosity allowing us to elevate the Peck Fund to new levels. This willingness to support Peck lifts us all. I’m sure that under the leadership of Sarah Quinn Clausen, we will continue to make new advances that will allow Peck to further the mission of educating students capable of impacting the world. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” On behalf of The Peck School Board of Trustees, thank you for your willingness to support this goal, and for sharing this collective experience that shapes our families and our futures. Sincerely,

Subhadra Shah, MD

President of the Board of Trustees

ALUMNI CLASS REPS We hope you will join our Class Rep team! The Class Rep’s main responsibility is to help us gather and maintain current alumni contact information. We want to fill the pages of the Peck News with class notes and pictures, send Downy or Redhead baby bibs to new parents, and invite our alums to Peck events! As a class rep, we hope you will enjoy reminiscing and reconnecting with your Peck classmates. In the future we hope to build on this program, creating an alumni council to help us define and implement a more robust alumni program. Just call our offices at (973) 5398660, ext. 113, or email alumni@peckschool.org to tell us you’re in. We would truly love to have you get involved!

HONOR ROLL OF DONORS

Invest in Peck: The Sutphen Society Charitable giving can be an important part of your estate planning. Bequests, gift annuities, and charitable trusts are vehicles through which you can provide valuable financial support to The Peck School. They also can provide significant financial benefits for you and your loved ones. We encourage you to seek advice from a tax professional about including Peck in your estate planning. There are several ways you can support an institution such as Peck. The following are among the most popular choices for making a charitable gift:

The Sutphen Society Founded in 1998, The Sutphen Society recognizes the generosity of alumni, parents, and other members of the Peck family who establish a planned giving arrangement with The Peck School. Membership in the Sutphen Society demonstrates a commitment to elementary education and perpetuates your relationship with The Peck School. Planned gifts include bequests, life income trusts, and other deferred giving arrangements. A bequest of any size qualifies a donor for membership in the Sutphen Society. Donors are advised to consult their financial advisors who are experienced in the area of estate planning. Unrestricted planned gifts are usually designated to the school’s endowment. Donors wishing to restrict the purpose of their gift or establish a named fund should discuss their intentions with representatives from the school to ensure that their wishes can be met. Remembering Peck in this special way establishes a tradition of philanthropy so important to The Peck School.

Bequests You may make a gift to The Peck School by designating the school as a beneficiary in your will. A bequest can be made for a specific amount or as a percentage of the total estate. Bequests can be unrestricted or used to establish named gift funds (e.g. scholarship fund) or memorial funds. Bequests of any size will help to secure the strength of the school for future generations.

Gift Annuities Under a gift annuity agreement, you make a gift to Peck in return for the school’s promise to make an annual payment to you of a specified dollar amount for as long as you live. The amount of the annual payment depends upon your age and is based on a fixed percentage of the initial fair market value of your gift. A portion of your gift is tax-deductible.

Charitable Remainder Trust A charitable remainder trust may be designed to provide you with income throughout your lifetime as well as support to The Peck School upon your death. The trust may be established with a gift of cash or appreciated stock. A trust can be structured in one of two ways–either as an annuity trust or unitrust. The important difference between the two options involves the way distributions are handled.

Charitable Lead Trusts With a charitable lead trust you essentially “lend” a charity your assets for a set period of time. At the end of the gift period, the property you placed in the trust either returns to you, or is passed on to named individuals. Charitable giving is important to the growth of the school’s endowment. Income from the endowment fund helps Peck remain a leader in elementary education by providing a stimulating environment for learning, scholarship funds, augmenting faculty salaries, and supporting programs and curriculum needs. Our staff welcomes the opportunity to meet with you and your advisors to discuss how you can include Peck in your estate plan. Discussions are confidential and are held without obligation. Questions and inquiries should be addressed to:

PECK ANNUAL REPORT 2020-2021

Giving in Gratitude 2021: A One-Day Celebration of The Peck Fund ONE ASK. ONE GIFT. $572,992 FOR THE PECK FUND.

In October 2020, our Giving in Gratitude day was record-shattering. In an unprecedented year, without many of our typical fundraising opportunities, we saw our annual Day of Giving as one chance to support The Peck Fund unlike ever before. We asked the Peck community to answer the call, and they did, as the Peck community never wavers, stands steadfast in the face of adversity, and welcomes a challenge. They showed up with 209 gifts and $422,922—more than The Peck Fund has ever raised in a single day, by far! With that support, plus our incredible $150,000 Trustee match, answering the call added up to $572,922 for our school. For our students. For our future. Our community made that one day count—and our gratitude is unending. | 31
