Thousands flocked to Placencia Village during the Easter holidays. Tipsy Tuna led the festivities with their 13th annual Easter Fest, which attracted the majority of Easter breakers with crazy and exciting games like watermelon eating, balloon popping, hot dog eating, and beer drinking contests, as well as the Big Belly Man Competition. “Mr. Nick”, One of Placencia’s Oldest Residents, Passes at 91 — Bob Nicolait, better known as Mr. Nick to generations of Placencians, passed away on April 1 while visiting relatives in the United States. The following is a short biography compiled by his family.

In 1949, Robert married Joyce McClintock and had two children from that union, a son, Lander, now of Santa Barbara, CA, and a daughter, Eva, now of San Francisco, CA. The first marriage ended in divorce in 1970.
Robert Nicolait was born in the U.S. state of New Jersey on March 31, 1922, but grew up on Long Island, New York, near the sea. He built his first boat at age 12 in which he explored the marshes and inlets of the marine landscape. His love of the sea and boats never left him. NICOLAIT FAMILY

Robert Nicolait began his professional life as a food technologist and for 15 years was the quality control supervisor for the world’s largest door-to-door bakery in Los Angeles. After leaving Los Angeles, he owned and operated a soft drink bottling plant in Santa Barbara, CA, which he sold before moving to Belize. In 1973, Robert, at the age of 51, married Lou Goza, became the father of her 3 year old Please see “Mr. Nick” on page 3.
