HELLo,2019! WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! If you were here for New Year's Eve, or Silvestr as the Czechs call it, we hope you've survived the celebrations without too much of a hangover and little to no burn marks (Czechs love their fireworks, and there are virtually no laws limiting the use of them in the city.) We've been busy celebrating the holidays and talking with both veteran and newcomer performers to Prague's cultural scene. While the new biopic Bohemian Rhapsody encouraged a rush of renewed enthusiasm for Queen around the world, Prague has had another reason to love Queen for quite some time – Queenie. Bohemia's Rhapsody:
QUEENIE While the new biopic Bohemian Rhapsody encouraged a rush of renewed enthusiasm for Queen around the world, Prague has had another reason to love Queen for quite some time – Queenie. Branding themselves as concert theatre, Queenie looks and acts the part, with lead singer Michael Kluch sporting Freddie Mercury’s signature mustache and guitarist Rudy Neumann’s flowing Brian May-esque mane of hair, not to mention the musical talent each member possesses and the often handmade costumes. Lead singer Kluch, who is exactly forty years younger than Freddie Mercury, wasn’t always interested in music. In fact, growing up he was more interested in ice hockey. It wasn’t until middle school when a friend shared an album with him that Kluch discovered his love for music. “I remember having heard a greatest hits album for the first time and realizing that all the top hits I knew from the radio were from the same band,” says Kluch. “I was 12.” That band was Queen, who he had never heard of before that moment. After this moment, Kluch realized how brilliant Freddie Mercury was. “I found out that Freddie was a gifted singer,” says Kluch. “I knew it was not easy to sing his songs, but I did it. I have practically the same voice range.” This discovery led Kluch to the idea of performing as Freddie. However, learning his love for music did not deter Kluch from his studies. He had planned to study math and continued his schooling, ending up working at an insurance company and a bank before ever seeing Queenie as a viable hobby to pursue. “I have never thought of it as a career,” says Kluch. “I just did what I enjoyed and what I was the best at.” By 2006 Kluch formed Queenie with fellow students in Prague, including bassist/multiinstrumentalist Martin Binhack, guitarist Rudy Neumann, Petr Baláš on drums, keyboardist Michal David and sound engineer Martin Med. “It was a gradual process. In the beginning, we did not want to make a tribute band, but as we met for the first time (thanks to an ad on the Internet), we knew we all loved Queen and started playing their music,” says Kluch. “We’ve stayed there. Since then, however, the band has changed to its present form. Today it is a professional project, although we still enjoy it very much.” Their first show was a graduate party at Neumann’s school, quickly followed by their first open air public concert. The band has come a long way from that first performance, establishing themselves throughout Prague’s music scene. Neumann is a founding member of the Czech
alternative psycore metal band Dymytry, while Petr “Bali” Baláš founded the Czech pop-rock band LOLA. David has played the keys for various Czech bands and singers, and Med has worked for local venues including Chapeau Rouge and the Rock Café, arranging concerts for world-renowned bands such as KISS and Alice Cooper. He was also involved in Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Czech Republic. To the members, Queenie is a performance in which each must perfect an act as his respective band member. They realize that Queenie is “concert theatre,” not a cover band, and that “each member in his specific role represents the work of another artist.” They base their approaches to the project on “music authenticity and live performance” in order to keep every show as realistic, energetic and entertaining as possible, all while performing the music of Queen perfectly. “We practice our instruments every day,” says Kluch. “We also must understand the original artist in order to perform him on stage in accordance with the essence of his work.” This approach has made Queenie one of the most beloved and successful tribute bands in the world. They’ve sold out concerts not only in Prague but also in Barcelona and Stockholm. In Prague they have performed in all the top venues, from Lucerna and the National Theatre to the
Municipal House and the massive O2 Arena. “Our favorite venue in Prague is the O2 Arena of course,” says Kluch. “But from time to time we have concerts at the Kalich Theater, which we really love.” In 2008 they performed at the Freddie Mercury Memorial Day in Switzerland. The band was personally invited by Peter Freestone, Freddie Mercury’s personal assistant for over a decade. Although the band has not met Queen members in a working context, Kluch is the godfather of the Pirate Swing Band’s Queen cover album, which was endorsed by Brian May himself. “In the last year we’ve played about 150 performances in 20 countries around the world,” says Kluch. “Including an invitation to perform at Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday celebration.” This past year the band has also performed as the main role in the new musical novel, Freddie. Each member not only performs Queen’s music as they do in their solo shows, but also acts the part of each band member. “Even if only for a moment fans feel that they have met the energy that Queen music contains, the mission is fulfilled,” says Kluch. Catch Queenie on stage at the Kalich Theatre on January 28 and in the musical Freddie at Radek Brzobohatý’s Theatre on January 21 & 22.

CAFÉ SOCIETY REVISITED
FIRST REPUBLIC ERA CAFÉS IN PRAGUE
CAFÉ LOUVRE Národní 22
This Vienna-style coffee house has been standing for over a century—since 1902. Their menu offers local favorites along with tastes from other European counties, and even America. Café Louvre has a cosmopolitan atmosphere, while still maintaining the specific charm of old school Prague. Its unique hospitality appealed to the likes of famous intellectuals from Franz Kafka to Albert Einstein. Get lost in time, and pay a visit to the Café Louvre.
There are seemingly thousands of cafés here in Prague—most of them with a new-age sense of chic that we know and love. But older establishments come with a particular charm that you just can’t get at a juice bar or vegan café. Here, famous socialites and intellectuals of the First Republic like Franz Kafka would go to sip cocktails, debate with friends or simply get their daily news. These cafés ultimately survived communism, two world wars, and three country names without losing their original turn-of-the-century style. Here’s six of the surviving traditional cafés that exist in Prague.
CAFÉ SAVOY Vítězná 5
Luminously modern with an old-school touch; Café Savoy will give you the best of both worlds. The cafe has been restored from its original opening in 1893.The showpiece in this café is the ceiling, which is remnant of Czech art nouveau-ist Alphons Mucha. Order anything from an elegant breakfast to hearty roast meats, and top it off with a sweet delicacy baked in-house. Walk through the corridor by the counter to find a window overlooking the bakers at work.

GRAND CAFÉ ORIENT Ovocný trh 19
Just a few blocks from Old Town Square is the only fully cubist café (down to the coat hooks) in Prague, and maybe even the world. It is located on the first floor of the House of the Black Madonna, a cubist structure created by renowned architect Josef Gočár. It maintains a sort of diner charm, with splashes of green to complement its cubist furnishings. It was originally established in 1912, but closed when cubism became unfashionable in the ‘20s. It reopened in 2005, and was renovated back to its original style. Stop in to dine from a classic café menu, and grab a seat on the balcony for a charming view of Celetná.
CAFÉ IMPERIAL Na Poříčí 15
Café Imperial is an art deco eatery with an upscale vibe and highend dishes. Its interior design is over-the-top in the best way; the ceiling and furnishings are a mosaic of ceramic tile and sculpted porcelain that complements its swanky 20th-century ambience. Enjoy breakfast all day at Café Imperial, and cocktails as the sun turns to moon. The cuisine is crafted by celebrity chef Zdeněk Pohlreich, so you’re guaranteed a next-level dining experience.

CAFÉ LUCERNA Štěpánská 61
Café Lucerna, or “Café Lantern” in English, is a 20th century eatery with dim lighting and a mysterious atmosphere that matches the building’s rustic appeal. Along with Lucerna Music Bar and Lucerna Cinema, Café Lucerna is part of Lucerna Palace, a complex built in the early 1900s in the late art nouveau style. Its floor to ceiling windows look out on to the Lucerna arcade, as well as David Černy’s famous sculpture of St. Wenceslas riding his horse upside down. For mellow feels and wacky views, try this café.
CAFÉ SLAVIA
Smetanovo nábřeží 2 Originally established in the 1920s, Café Slavia has more of a modern vibe than the other old-school café of Prague. It served as a well-known gathering place of the literary community of the 20th century; pupils include Franz Kafka and Rainer Maria Rilke. Dine and discuss art and politics with the locals, while enjoying a stunning riverside view.

Boudoir Talk Billy Rayner is a singer who could not care less if you actually listen to him sing. “People have a lot more fun when there’s no pressure,” says Rayner. “I just want everyone to relax and have a good time in a pleasant, theatrelounge setting.” Whether you’re looking for an entertaining performance or a cozy spot to hangout, Rayner’s show, Royal Boudoir, is the perfect Saturday night scene. “This is one of the only places in Prague where you can hear quality live music with a charismatic showman,” says Rayner. “I want people to say, ‘Let’s go hang out with Billy,’ not ‘Let’s go watch his show.’” Half lounge-style singing, half stand-up comedy and playful banter, the show is nostalgic for past eras of showmanship while still seeped in decadence and modern humor. This all began just one year ago, when Rayner started working as a backstage helper for the popular Prague Burlesque show. Quickly advancing from a behind the scenes aid to choreographer and dancer, Rayner found a mentor and theatrical partner in David Jahn, a.k.a. Sonny Vargas, founder of Prague Burlesque. “We teamed up and were a good match, really bumped up the show,” says Rayner. “He has the vision and I’m his glasses. I sharpen his vision.” Rayner was a lounge singer in his spare time and realized the genre was missing in Prague’s nightlife. With the support of the theatre and Jahn, Rayner brought Boudoir to life to fill this void. “I’d like to bring that performance back where you can watch if you want to or just let it be pleasant background music,” says Rayner. “I think lounge music is very much dead right now.” Rayner’s love for lounge music has been an ever-present part of his life. Growing up in Queens he dedicated his life to theater early on, attending the renowned LaGuardia High School (the arts school the movie Fame is based on). “I’ve always had a penchant for older times,” says Rayner. “Because of the honesty and charisma of the performers. I can’t stand modern music

and entertainment, with performers just flippantly showing up in t-shirts and DJs playing for themselves in corners.” Dressed in a vest and tie for our afternoon drink at Bullerbyn, Rayner certainly looks the part, emanating a modern-day Frank Sinatra. “It’s a step back to a simpler time when every place had a band and a singer who’s connected with the crowd,” says Rayner. “I like to be very ironic, have some fun with it – I’ve got my bottle of tequila next to me, I’ll drink with the audience, saunter through the crowd, sit on their laps and play with their hair.” To Rayner, the show is an intimate, personal and comedically entertaining interaction with the audience. He tailors his jokes to current events and people in the crowd, addressing them directly. “I want them to feel the performer cares about them,” says Rayner. “I give everything to my audience, making every show unique and personal. Everyone leaves with a cheers and a little chuckle.” Rayner and his partner, pianist Robin Finesilver, not only cover classics but also rock songs from artists like Guns N’ Roses, Radiohead and even Cher. “[Finesilver] definitely has my back,”
says Rayner. “I throw him a lot of weird requests. He’s amazingly versatile, always changing keys for me. He loves playing Blues and Hard Rock but I have him doing Liza Minnelli and Bette Midler.” Their relationship is a big part of the show as well. They banter back and forth, taking sad songs, like the Eagles’ “Desperado,” and turning them into comedy gold. “I choose the songs and set the tone, but without him doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes I would be a total mess,” says Rayner. The historical ambience of the theatre lends itself perfectly to this nostalgia for a past era and “deserves quality vintage entertainment” according to Rayner. Founded in 1929 and known at the time as one of the largest and most modern cinemas in Prague, the Royal Theatre and Club Chic is a portal into Czechoslovakia’s most iconic time, the First Republic era. Much of the theatre’s original furnishings and architecture still remain, including the stained-glass windows, elaborate lighting fixtures and marble-detailed stairs. Even the original woodwork from the 1920s remains, lining the balconies and walls. .In 2014 Frenchman JeanChristophe Gramont took over the theatre, helping the space to regain
its original popularity – it was recently named as one of the top six bars in the Czech Republic by Elle magazine. Besides Prague Burlesque on Fridays and Royal Boudoir on Saturdays, the theatre also hosts concerts, film screenings and art exhibitions. Gramont, who is a writer, director and film enthusiast himself, is incredibly supportive of the Royal’s shows and performers. “What I love about the Royal is they’re really ambitious,” says Rayner. “They’ve given us full reign and assurance that the budget will grow with the show. I’d like to bring in comedians and other quality performers, we’re really blessed to have the support to do that.” Although the song selections change every week, Rayner always ends the show with Sinatra’s “One for My Baby (and One More for the Road),” an ode to the stories he’s shared and created with each audience member. “We’re drinking my friend, To the end, of a brief episode. So make it one for my baby, And one more for the road.” Catch Royal Boudoir every Saturday at the Royal Theatre in Vinohrady, Vinohradská 48, Prague 2. Doors open at 9PM, music starts at 10PM.

Dlouhá 33, Prague 1 www.roxy.cz
Meet Factory 6*
Ke Sklárně 15, Prague 5 www.meetfactory.cz
The Roxy is one of Prague’s oldest and bestknown clubs. The venue was a popular theatre and ballroom in the 1920’s, but now you’ll find drum and bass, house, techno, and other modern styles on the dancefloor. When the club isn’t hosting a live DJ, it’s the spot for concerts and music festivals.
This music club, art gallery, theater and cinema

Revoluční 3, Prague 1 www.epicprague.com Newcomer to the club scene, Epic has made a name for itself as one of the hottest new clubs in the city. This modern electronic club has three levels that each make you feel like you are at an EDM concert. Truly a full audio-visual experience, the performances at the main stage alone make this spot one of the best choices for a night out. Vibe: Over the top expansive club vibes that make you party ‘til the break of dawn.

M1 Lounge 6(
Masná 1, Prague 1 www.m1lounge.com M1 Lounge is a favorite of locals, expats and even passing-through celebrities, and it’s not hard to see why. The club’s well-known team of skilled DJs keep the place pumping with a mixture of R&B, hip-hop, electro and dance music until the wee hours of morning, and the upscale, luxurious atmosphere makes every night feel like a celebration. Vibe: Upscale, Miami style club
Lucerna 6^
Vodičkova 36, Prague 1 www.musicbar.cz One of the largest and most popular music clubs in Prague, Lucerna is known for its weekly concerts and events. It's most popular on Friday and Saturday nights, when the club’s huge projection screens come alive with 80’s and 90’s music videos. Partygoers of every age and all walks of life can be seen here, getting down to oldie hits from Blondie to Nirvana. Vibe: Like being at your favorite throwback concert, except this time you can get on the stage and dance.
Cross Club 6&
Plynární 23, Prague 7 www.crossclub.cz Cross Club is a labyrinth of small bars and dancefloors pumping music from dubstep and techno to reggae and hip-hop. The club’s psychedelic, industrial décor is a sight to see in itself—every piece of the building from the walls to the ceiling is constructed to move and pulsate with the music, some of it you can even interact with. It’s one of the most unique experiences you’ll have with nightlife in Prague. Cross Club is a bit out of the city center, but worth the trek. Check the website to see what kind of music will be pulsating through the multi-level space. Vibe: Euphoric and alternative, definitely in a category of it’s own.
Vibe: EDM to the extreme every night.

James Dean 7)
V kolkovně 1, Prague 1 www.jamesdean.cz Okay, we admit that this one’s kind of kitschy— but only in the best way. Named for the iconic rebel and actor, the bar has a classic 1950’s American diner feel turned late-night club. Vibe: Modern twist on a classic time, all ages and all sorts of feels.
Harley’s 7(
Dlouhá 18, Prague 1 www.harleys.cz Harley's is described as the coolest hell on earth. This American-style biker bar opens late and is always rockin’ and rollin’ with live DJs and music acts. It’s also in a perfect location, just a two-minute walk from Old Town Square. Vibe: If bikers were European 25-year-olds screaming Nirvana at the top of their lungs.
Retro 7%
Francouzská 4, Prague 2 www.retropraha.cz One for the curious, bored or brave. Retro has become the Czech home of hard house. Their club nights are full to the rafters until the small hours while go-go dancers whip the energetic clubbers into a house driven frenzy. STORM CLUB 7@
Tachovské náměstí 5, Prague 3 www.stormclub.eu Multi-genre club with two stages featuring electronic music on the weekends and concerts throughout the week. La Loca r
Odborů 4, Prague 2 www.laloca.cz Chic, fashionable and a whole lotta fun! One of the very first smoke-free establishments in Prague entertains the crowds all day every day. At night, international vibes mixed with a scrumptious selection of sizzling drinks guarantee a big night-out. Add a carefully selected music program - karaoke, 80s & 90s retro parties, DJ performances, live concerts and rooftop gatherings in the summer - and you can rest assured knowing you’re bound to have fun. Bělehradská 120, Prague 2 www.radostfx.cz First opened in the early ‘90s just a few years after the Velvet Revolution, Radost FX is open Thursday to Saturday and offers the best of house, R&B and hip hop music—Rihanna even filmed one of her music videos there. V kolkovně 6, Prague 1 www.cafe80.cz You can’t go wrong with 80’s music. Whether you’re nostaligic or just appreciative of all things “totally awesome”, the two-story venue features an 80’s themed café restaurant on the first floor. But the real story here is the basement. A nicely sized music club with an illuminated dance floor, plus a large bar and VIP lounge make it a night worthy of the MTV generation. Chapeau Rouge is a bar and music club that ranks among the biggest in Prague with 3 floors, 4 bars & 3 stages. PRAGUE
Cocktail guide & wine bar guide
The best cocktail bars in Prague (like the ones listed here) get pretty busy, even during the week. It's always good to make a reservation just to make sure you get a seat (even at the bar).
Le Valmont 9)
Uhelný trh 9, Prague 1 levalmont.cz The Michael Van Cleef Ault concept was inspired by the Miloš Forman movie of the same name, and is decorated in 18th-century French fashion with aubusson carpets, antique sofas, and massive crystal chandeliers. Reservations are all but required, since the 100-capacity lounge fills up fairly quickly. +420 224 267 266 for Reservations.
Schody Home Bar 7^
Zámecké schody 8, Prague 1 Recently opened bespoke cocktail bar and sister to one of our favorite cocktail places, Parlour. Located right on the stairs (schody) leading to the Prague Castle, it's hard to find but well worth the search. Once you're inside, tell the mixologist what flavors you like and he'll fix up your dream cocktail. No website, no number - it's a cozy hidden secret and they're trying to keep it that way.
Black Angel's 8#
Staroměstské náměstí 29, Prague 1 blackangels.cz Nestled in a cozy cellar just across from the Old Town astronomical clock, Black Angel’s will put you in sensory overload. With high cellar ceilings, chandeliers, and ornate decor, it’s a lot to take in. +420 224 213 807 for Reservations.
Bar and Books 8%
Mánesova 64, Prague 2 and Týnská 19, Prague 1 barandbooks.cz Bar & Books is the first overseas extension of the famous New York family of bars, with two locations in Prague (the casual hangout in Mánesova and slightly more formal experience in Týnská). Like its New York counterpart, the bar evokes the feeling of a gentleman’s library. Dim lighting, heavy woods, ornately framed paintings, and of course books (mostly for visual aesthetics). Reservations online.
L'Fleur 9$
V kolkovně 5, Prague 1 lfleur.cz L’Fleur is just a few doors down from Tretter’s. Even before our first drink, we fell in love with the 1920’s feel of the interior, complete with a Mucha-inspired stained glass window towards the back of the bar. The signature drinks all come with their own history, which the bartender is always happy to explain. If you’re feeling a bit more bubbly, try a selection from L’Fleur’s expansive champagne list. +420 734 255 665 for Reservations
Parlour 8$
Hemingway Bar 9!
parlour.cz Maybe Parlour doesn’t want to be found – and that’s fine with us. The tiny little bar at the top of Wenceslas Square near the National Museum has a delightful speakeasy vibe to it, though it’s quickly becoming a popular secret. If you should luck out and discover the nearly unmarked entry, inside you’ll find an intimate, dimly lit bar with old jazz and R&B records playing and amazing craft cocktails served in antique glassware. +420 777 200 015 for Reservations.
hemingwaybar.cz Chances are, if you’ve asked around, Hemingway's Bar has already been recommended. The Old Town hotspot just made the “World’s Top 50 Bars” for the third time, and with good reason. The bar’s philosophy is that every customer must have a seat, so you won’t feel overcrowded here. Reservations are highly recommended. +420 773 974 764 for Reservations.
Krakovská 15, Prague 1
Crazy Daisy 9(
Václavské náměstí 4, Prague 1 crazydaisy.cz Somewhat hidden at the bottom of Wenceslas Square, this one of our favourite new hotspots. First Republic style interior, bar staff dressed the part and videomapping on the walls that pushes reality - it feels like you're in The Great Gatsby. +420 273 130 486 for Reservations.
Bugsy's 9%
Pařížská 10, Prague 1 bugsysbar.cz Bugsy’s is another bar with a great history, popping up just after the Velvet Revolution. Their one constant has been attention to detail and passion for good cocktails. Bugsy’s also loves their bubbly, and boasts over 130 brands of champagne and prosecco, as well as over 90 single malt whiskeys and 100 types of rum. +420 224 810 287 for Reservations.
Tretter's 8@
V kolkovně 3, Prague 1 tretters.cz The Tretter family has been in the bar business for more than 90 years, so it’s no wonder this place feels like walking into a 1930’s Paris or New York cocktail bar. With soft lighting, classic decor and bartenders dressed the part in vintage cocktail jackets, the bar has become an institution. +420 224 811 165 for Reservations.
AnonymouS Bar 9# Michalská 12, Prague 1
anonymousbar.cz It’s nearly impossible to go into the AnonymouS Bar and not smile, the bar is clever at every turn. You can tell the bartender your likes and they’ll make suggestions, or choose from the secret drink menu printed in UV ink and read with a small blacklight. Reservations are taken only until 9pm. +420 608 280 069 for Reservations.
Alchemist Bar 9*
Provaznická 1, Prague 1 thealchemistbar.cz A relative newcomer on the scene, Alchemist is turning out quality prohibition style drinks in their ornate classically decorated location at the bottom of Wenceslas Square. +420 251 510 940 for Reservations.
Karolíny Světlé 26, Prague 1
Cash Only Bar 8( Liliová 3, Prague 1
Vinograf 8(
Senovážné náměstí 23, Prague 1 Míšeňská 8, Prague 1 vinograf.cz Vinograf Wine Bar stays up-to-date to ensure they only serve the very best. The everchanging wine selection is on an easy to use digital tablet – you’re guaranteed to find the perfect glass for you! There are two convenient locations to choose from, each with their own distinct personality, but both cozy and comfortable. This is our personal favorite when it comes to wine. +420 214 214 681 for Reservations.
cashonlybar.cz Just around the corner from its older sibling Hemingway’s, this little gem is making its own name with cocktails like Pin-Up Martini, made with passion fruit, vanilla and champagne. It’s an intimate bar, and they don’t take reservations. There’s also no smoking and, you guessed it—the bar doesn’t take credit cards. Oh, and by the way, they do serve amazing hot dogs.

Can the world exist without action? The most demanding, impossible to perform, complex – in two parts to boot ... A play as the uppermost challenge placed before us by Goethe, as well as the dramatic tradition spanning centuries and including numerous adaptations of the myth about trespassing human limits. We raise the question of what makes Faust our contemporary, what temptations he would have to face today. And how much of the classical opus can actually be transferred to the stage at the beginning of the 21st century. A brand-new treatment, a brand-new _Faust_.

19:00 @ Estates Theatre Her Majesty Elizabeth II is the lead character of Peter Morgan’s play, centred on her weekly audiences given to Prime Ministers. It is in a way a fairy tale about monarchy in the modern world and even though it presents the major British premiers, from Winston Churchill to David Cameron, it is theatre about politicians and everyday politics and all its attendant gimmicks, juxtaposed with a certain timeless archaic principle of control over the democratic government. Choderlos de Laclos was a French army officer unable to satisfy his military ambitions. Hence, he began devoting to literature. He wrote a number of poems and librettos but is best known for the novel _Les Liaisons dangereuses_ (1782), composed entirely of letters by the various characters to one other. The veracity of its action makes it the greatest work of its ilk. Almost 200 letters depict the relationship between two rakes who deform the noble ideas of philosophical libertinism into moral perversion. For the sake of their amusement, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont interfere in other people’s lives and hatch schemes that ultimately bring about their downfall. Libretto, Ballet

Faust
19:00 @ Estates Theatre
Ovocny trh 1
Can the world exist without action? The most demanding, impossible to perform, complex – in two parts to boot ... A play as the uppermost challenge placed before us by Goethe, as well as the dramatic tradition spanning centuries and including numerous adaptations of the myth about trespassing human limits. We raise the question of what makes Faust our contemporary, what temptations he would have to face today. And how much of the classical opus can actually be transferred to the stage at the beginning of the 21st century. A brand-new treatment, a brand-new _Faust_. Myth, World, Action

BY Bektash Musa Mission Impossible (1996) The first of what is now a six-movie series spanning twenty-two years, produced and starred in by American actor and stunt-man Tom Cruise. The series focuses on a highly specialized security team called the Impossible Missions Force. In the first installment, an American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty and the murder of the rest of his team, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization – and the 38
adventures begin. This scene was shot at Platnéřská street which boasts a breathtaking view of the Prague Castle from across the Vltava River in Old Town. Nearby you can check out the Municipal Library and the beautiful Clementinum Library. The Municipal Library is not only the oldest public library in Prague, it is also home to a surreal mind-bending book sculpture and an art gallery upstairs. The library of the Clementinum complex is a Baroque masterpiece, regarded as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. This library dating back

to the 18th century is filled with floor-to-ceiling books, giant antique globes and an overload of Baroque architecture – well worth a visit! Turkish photographer Bektash Musa fell in love with Prague at first sight. A fan of media, Musa also wanted to show the world the beauty of the city through the eyes of directors who filmed here, pairing photos of actual places with scenes from movies, television shows, documentaries and music video where they were originally shot.
