Traditional Beautiful Design
June in Prague We're sure you came to Prague to experience the sights and sounds that the city has to offer, but as we began putting together this month’s issue, we couldn’t help but notice not just the number of concerts happening, but the quality of the acts that are making their way through Prague in June. First off, there’s the Metronome Festival, which never fails to disappoint. This year we can’t wait to see the diverse roster of performers including Liam Gallagher and Morcheeba and Primal Scream. By the way, if you have Metronome tickets and you’d like to get the VIP experience, visit our Facebook page and sign up to win a pair of upgrades. Big name acts rolling through this month include Maroon 5 on June 5, and the almost original line-up of Smashing Pumpkins (minus bassist D’Arcy Wretzky) playing the next day on June 6. Later in the month on June 19, KISS performs in Prague on what they say is “the end of the road” (and your last chance to see them on tour). ZZ Top will be opening. Speaking of veteran acts, this month also brings the Beach Boys on June 19, Phil Collins on June 25, and Kool and the Gang on June 24. Backstreet Boys

Pro TIP:
play on June 22, and guitar legend and Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler plays on June 26. It’s also month of concerts for all the metal fans, starting off with Alice in Chains on June 3, Tool on June 4, Godsmack on June 10, and Slipknot on June 11. There’s also Def Leopard on June 17, Disturbed on June 24, Slayer on June 25 and everybody’s favorite drinkin’ and singin’ band Dropkick Murphys on June 11. We’d recommend getting a hearing test at the end of the month to make sure you didn’t damage anything. If the concerts leave your bank account high and dry, there’s also some great free things to do this month including Prague Museum Night on June 8, which give you free access to some of Prague’s best museums, and Czech Philharmonic’s Open Air Concert on June 19. Of course, it' s not all concerts in this month's issue. We also check out our favorite places to go with kids, and we've packed over 400 events and things to do in this months "Night and Day" section of our magazine. Enjoy, and don't forget to follow us on Facebook and like us on Instagram!
We suggest using your feet to get around Prague. When necessary, use our amazing and inexpensive transit system. But, If you feel the need to try a scooter or bikesharing, here’s our very biased opinion and the basics of your options...
Just No... Electric push scooters just aren’t cool, unless you’re a six year old. They’re also not efficient or much fun on cobblestone streets, which leads many riders to end up where they’re not supposed to be - on the sidewalk. Then people really hate you. We avoid. 25 CZK TO UNLOCK + 2 CZK / MINUTE

Chances are, your kids don’t have the same appreciation for history and some of Prague’s more sophisticated attractions. So, for their benefit, we’ve prepared 21 of our favorite places to let kids be kids. Enjoy!
PRAGUE ZOO
A day at the zoo has been a favorite family activity for generations and Prague Zoo is definitely on to remember. This world-famous zoo has 10km of routes to explore and has been frequented by the likes of the Jolie-Pitts (we miss you Brangelina). Just a little out of the center, the zoo is easily and cheaply accessible by public transport and offers a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children for 600czk (that’s under $30). There are over 150 different exhibitions where you can see animals from all over the world. While the exotic animals are just out of your reach, your kids can get up close and persona with domestic animals at the ‘children’s zoo’. If you get bored of that, the zoo has a huge play area to enjoy too. The Prague Zoological Garden U Trojskeho Zamku 120/3 171 00, Praha 7 www.zoopraha.cz

DINOPARK PRAHA
What kind of park is features reptilian giants from the Jurassic and Triassic Era? A JURASSIC PARK! DinoPark Praha is the closest we’re getting to the real thing. Located on the roof of the Harfa Shopping Centre, DinoPark features life-size models of various dinosaurs, a paleontological playground with a dinosaur skeleton to be excavated, and a 4D cinema. The price of admission is cheap enough when paying individually, and even cheaper when entering as a family. A family ticket for two adults and two children is just 400czk (about $20) and children under three can enter for free. The park is suitable for all ages and gives a ton of historical information. GUTOVKA
Gutovka is your ultimate tool for entertaining teenagers. This large outdoor recreation center is packed with facilities including a skate park, climbing wall, waterpark and even mini golf. Gutovka is out of the center but there’s easy metro access that will get you there in about 20 minutes so it’s definitely worth an adventure out of the historic center. With so much to do, you’ll keep older kids and teens well occupied and could earn yourself a few brownie points for an epic day out. It’s a seriously cool place but activities are charged separately so be sure to check the prices before promising your kids the world. DĚTSKÝ OSTROV
Dětský Ostrov literally translates as ‘children’s island’. This beautiful little urban oasis contains a playground that is completely fenced in to keep young children from falling in the water. If the kids do want to splash about, there’s a small pool for them to dip their feet and a drinking fountain if they’re thirsty. With plenty of shade, a water spraying mushroom and the cool breeze from the river, it’s a lovely place to spend time outdoors without having to worry about sun exposure and dehydration. If your kids are a bit older, they can venture to another section of the island where they’ll find volleyball and tennis courts, and basic skateboard jumps. This island truly is a paradise for kids of all ages. Dětský Ostrov, Prague-Smichov

Slovanský ostrov, 110 00 Prague 1
Who doesn’t love Lego? Prague boasts the Lego museum with the most exhibits in the entire world. There are over 2500 models in the 20 themed parts of the museum. If you can’t manage to see all of Prague on your trip, you can at least see it in miniature form with models including Prague Castle, the National Theatre, and Charles Bridge. Not only are the displays impressive and quite frankly, the coolest thing you’ll ever see, they also explore the history of Lego so you can bond with your kids and show them the toys of your own youth. It’s a great place to let your kids play with all the Lego they could dream of without fearing for your bare feet. Head to the central museum and mention Prague Visitor for 30% discount.
Undoubtedly the most popular thing to do on the Vltava is rent a pedalo. There are various points along the river bank to rent a vessel and head out onto the water. Designs vary from your standard pedalo to cars and swans, but if pedalos aren’t your cup of tea, most places also offer rowboats. There’s nothing better than drifting along near the national theatre and admiring Charles Bridge and Prague Castle on a sunny day. Prices and rental times vary depending on the rental place and the size or design of the boat. The average is around 200-300czk ($1015) an hour for a family of 4. A great place to rent a boat is on Slovanský Island which not only gives you perfect views of Prague but is also a great family spot and home of the Zofin Playground.

As a landlocked country, if there’s one thing the Czech Republic is not famous for, it’s beaches. However, the Zlute Lazne resort in Prague boasts an impressive manmade beach and is perfect for a family day out with its designated children’s corner. After an easy tram ride down the river from central Prague, children can safely play in pools and lagoons with plastic toys and paddle boats. In addition to their dedicated children’s area, Zlute Lazne often run a program of children’s events. The best thing about Zlute Lazne is the price. VOZOVNA – STROMOVKA

This delightful restaurant is situated in the heart of Stromovka park and has space to eat both indoors and outside. The park is enormous, with natural features, zip lines, playgrounds and even a water play area to explore. The park is close to the Výstaviště Holešovice exhibition site, with various other activities to enjoy including an aquarium, planetarium and seasonal funfair. What makes this restaurant so special is its personal Kastanek playground which is one of the best in the whole park. While Vozovna doesn’t have the most extensive children’s menu, it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a full day in the sun. Kralovska obora 2, Praha 7 Bubeneč www.vozovna-stromovka.cz

CZECH MICRO-BREWERY BEERS ON TAP
Nine years ago, in Prague, the capital of beer, only handful of Czech beers was being represented. We left the capital and spent time in the villages around the entire country, searching for the best regional craft beers. Our dream was to bring all these great breweries to Prague. Thus, we founded Prague Beer Museum, a place to bring the best beers we found.

Cocktail guide & wine bar guide
The best cocktail bars in Prague (like the ones listed here) get pretty busy, even during the week. It's always good to make a reservation just to make sure you get a seat (even at the bar).
Le Valmont 9)
Uhelný trh 9, Prague 1 levalmont.cz The Michael Van Cleef Ault concept was inspired by the Miloš Forman movie of the same name, and is decorated in 18th-century French fashion with aubusson carpets, antique sofas, and massive crystal chandeliers. Reservations are all but required, since the 100-capacity lounge fills up fairly quickly. +420 224 267 266 for Reservations.
Schody Home Bar 7^
Zámecké schody 8, Prague 1 Recently opened bespoke cocktail bar and sister to one of our favorite cocktail places, Parlour. Located right on the stairs (schody) leading to the Prague Castle, it's hard to find but well worth the search. Once you're inside, tell the mixologist what flavors you like and he'll fix up your dream cocktail. No website, no number - it's a cozy hidden secret and they're trying to keep it that way.
Black Angel's 8#
Staroměstské náměstí 29, Prague 1 blackangels.cz Nestled in a cozy cellar just across from the Old Town astronomical clock, Black Angel’s will put you in sensory overload. With high cellar ceilings, chandeliers, and ornate decor, it’s a lot to take in. +420 224 213 807 for Reservations.
Bar and Books 8%
Mánesova 64, Prague 2 and Týnská 19, Prague 1 barandbooks.cz Bar & Books is the first overseas extension of the famous New York family of bars, with two locations in Prague (the casual hangout in Mánesova and slightly more formal experience in Týnská). Like its New York counterpart, the bar evokes the feeling of a gentleman’s library. Dim lighting, heavy woods, ornately framed paintings, and of course books (mostly for visual aesthetics). Reservations online.
L'Fleur 9$
V kolkovně 5, Prague 1 lfleur.cz L’Fleur is just a few doors down from Tretter’s. Even before our first drink, we fell in love with the 1920’s feel of the interior, complete with a Mucha-inspired stained glass window towards the back of the bar. If you’re feeling a bit more bubbly, try a selection from L’Fleur’s expansive champagne list. +420 734 255 665 for Reservations
Parlour 8$
Hemingway Bar 9!
parlour.cz Maybe Parlour doesn’t want to be found – and that’s fine with us. The tiny little bar at the top of Wenceslas Square near the National Museum has a delightful speakeasy vibe to it, though it’s quickly becoming a popular secret. hemingwaybar.cz Chances are, if you’ve asked around, Hemingway's Bar has already been recommended. The Old Town hotspot just made the “World’s Top 50 Bars” for the third time, and with good reason. Metronome Festival 2019
Prague's favorite music festival returns with over 40 amazing shows in two days. Prague is one of the world’s great tourist destinations with countless historic sights and landmarks. But during one weekend each summer, one of the world’s most beautiful cities also plays home to a large music festival featuring global stars and up-and-coming progressive acts. The fourth-annual Metronome Festival Prague will take place on June 21-22 this year at the Výstavištěexhibition grounds with headliners Liam Gallagher, Kraftwerk, Primal Scream, and Morcheeba. Metronome Festival Prague is the first large pop/ rock festival to take place in the Czech capital. It strives to provide a cross-section of various genres and musical epochs, focusing on the hottest new sounds and the best of the past. But the organizers don’t just provide an eclectic line-up that attracts a wide range of concert-goers, but also an exceptional level of comfort at the open-air and covered stages with sufficient seating; a broad selection of refreshments; high-capacity Wi-Fi; and a cashless payment system that offers secure transactions, shorter lines, and faster service. In the past, Metronome Festival Prague has featured stars such as Iggy Pop, Foals, Sting, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Fighters, Kasabian, John Cale, David Byrne, and Massive Attack, with over 17,000 people attending last year’s edition. Prague’s Výstaviště exhibition ground and its ornate art deco Průmyslový palác (Industrial Palace) is part of the extended heart of the city. The festival grounds are close to the National Gallery, famous for its modern art collection; as well as the vast Prague Zoo with its near-century of history. The grounds themselves border Stromovka (the Royal Game Preserve), which happens to be the largest park in the Czech capital. It’s only a few minutes by public transportation to Prague’s most famous landmarks, including Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Wenceslas and Old Town
Squares, the art deco Vltava embankment, or the city’s world-famous modern architecture. The area just outside Prague offers a number of attractions as well, including the medieval castles of Karlštejn and Křivoklát; or Konopiště, the residence of the assassinated heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. There are four headliners of this year’s Metronome Festival Prague, and each will present an extra-long setlist specifically selected for the event. British singer Liam Gallagher, the former frontman of 1990s Britpop phenomenon Oasis, will present his greatest hits along with songs from his newest release. German electronica legends Kraftwerk will perform their extraordinarily successful 3D multimedia show. In order to ensure the best possible viewing experience, all guests will receive special 3D glasses for this performance. Primal Scream and Morcheeba are set to offer a selection of their biggest hits from their illustrious careers tailored especially for Metronome Festival Prague. Besides the headliners, musicians from more alternative genres will also perform, including virtuoso guitarist, singer, and songwriter Anna Calvi; dance music giant Danny Howard; Iceland’s top female guerrilla hip-hop group Reykjavíkurdætur; and Birtish neo-soul group Jungle. The domestic music scene will also be well-represented. Pražský výběr, a new wave legends and one of the most popular Czech bands in history, will perform. One of the Metronome Festival Prague’s highlights will be a cross-generational concert by Czech female singers dubbed Hlasy svobody (Voices of Freedom), which will a commemoration of the 30 years since the Velvet Revolution and the fall of communism. This momentous anniversary will be a thread throughout Metronome Festival Prague’s program this year.

Antonín Dvořák’s two most successful operas, “The Devil and Kate”, and “Rusalka”, are based on fairy-tale motifs. Blending folk and humor with lyrical and fantasy elements is one of the typical (and still very popular) traits of Czech dramatic creation. “Our restaurant descends from an era when celebration of life, culture, luxury, open mindedness, hospitality and happiness all put together were a must. We the two brothers at K have designed the décor of the restaurant in the spirit of what Kapurthala , a European holiday retreat could have looked like. K’s modernity is expressed through its ambience, music and fashionable spirit.”

BY Bektash Musa Kafka (1991) "Kafka" is a 1991 French-American mystery thriller film directed by Steven Soderbergh. Ostensibly a biopic, based on the life of Franz Kafka, the film blurs the lines between fact and Kafka's fiction (most notably The Castle and The Trial), creating a Kafkaesque atmosphere. It was written by Lem Dobbs, and stars Jeremy Irons in the title role, with Theresa Russell, Ian Holm, Jeroen KrabbĂŠ, Joel Grey, Armin Mueller-Stahl, and Alec Guinness. 38
THE PRAGUE VISITOR | June 2019
Released after Soderbergh's critically acclaimed debut Sex, Lies, and Videotape it was the first of what would be a series of low-budget box-office disappointments. It has since become a cult film, being compared to Terry Gilliam's Brazil and David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch. Set in the city of Prague in 1919, Kafka tells the tale of an insurance clerk who gets involved with an underground group after one of his co-workers is murdered. The underground group, responsible for bombings all over town, attempts to thwart a secret organization that controls the major events
in society. He eventually penetrates the secret organization in order to confront them. In a 2013 interview with Vulture, Soderbergh stated that the rights to the film had reverted to him and executive producer Paul Rassam, and that work had begun on a "completely different" version of the movie.[2] Soderbergh reported that he and Lem Dobbs did some rewriting, inserts were shot during the making of Side Effects, and he plans to dub the film into German and release both the original and new version together.
