THRIVING THROUGH THE PEN

Natashia Bobbitt, the owner of N C Bobbitt Productions, an entertainment company, focusing on family-friendly entertainment, is here to talk about how she tapped into screenwriting After opening her business in 2011 and writing stage plays for years, times began changing, and films became more convenient with timing and finances. In 2015, she began transitioning into the film arena and wrote her full-length screenplay

When she wrote the screenplay, she did not have a plan to produce it One day, her battery died in her truck, and her best friend was on the phone with her. She was in a new state and did not know anyone there Her best friend called his brother-in-law and asked if he could assist her with her battery As the young man was helping her with my battery, her best friend informed him that she wrote screenplays She was introduced to his film company, and her first short film, Intoxicant, was produced and is now streaming on Amazon Prime

What inspired your start in the film industry?

I have enjoyed creating stories and writing since I was 10 In elementary school, I would fill a notebook with paper and create stories As a child, I would always sit in my room and create stories It was enjoyable to create new worlds I never knew that writing would be a career for me I wrote because I loved it, and it was my passion I would write stories and stack them in boxes in my room.

When I became an adult, I was still writing, and one day a friend of mine was in my garage helping me move some stuff around, and she saw one of my notebooks with one of my stories and read it. She later asked me why I put my stories in a box instead of putting them out to the world I was a little upset with her for reading them because it was just a passion and an outlet for me

A few years later, I joined Urban Playwrights United and began to cultivate my gift and passion and learned the business side of writing In 2017, there was a 10-minute play competition, and I was still hesitant about displaying my work to the world, so my godsister and one of my friends encouraged me to enter

At the last minute, I decided to write a play and completed it within an hour When my play, The Words I Didn’t Say, was selected to be read, it was the first time hearing my work out loud I knew then I had stories I wanted to share with the world

What’s in the works for your writing journey?

I’m thrilled to have several projects in various stages of production We are also in the development stages of my feature film script with LUV Life Entertainment. I am the lead writer for Gdavis Productions and Films, which can be found on Roku TV, FireTV, and Apple TV There are several pre- and postproduction projects, and I am excited about that.

You’re wearing a lot of hats being the CEO of N.C. Bobbitt Productions, writing for other production companies, being a CEO of Legacy 7 Coaching and Consulting, Social Worker, Mother, and Grandmother. How are you able to balance all these different roles?

Everything is about timing, aligning, and planning. Everything we do should have a plan It gets a little rough sometimes because I am a single parent, but I have learned that when I have a plan on how to tackle things, I go into a mode with deadlines in my mind and timing. So, just like we have a work schedule, you should have a life schedule I have learned through the years that when you ’ re walking in your purpose, you can keep your torch burning and not get burned out as when you just doing things

What advice would you give a new person wanting to break out in the writing industry?

Do not give up on your dreams, and keep writing Do what feels best for you, and do not allow others to dictate your path I went to college and received a criminal justice degree I never used. I worked in law enforcement for nine years, but I didn’t need a degree for that

Even when I was doing that, I was writing in my downtime. I went back to school and received degrees in social work and psychology Now I use those, and I add the elements to my writing I say this to say go after what you want and not what the world wants for you.

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

A woman who goes after what she wants in life but also understands the balance between working hard to achieve her goals and getting proper rest and self-care to carry out her mission

Jackie is the founder of the Melanated Words Podcast and has built a well-respected platform for healing by educating and empowering her listeners who battle with depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges She is the author of Shattered Soul, a self-help guide that women all over the country have used as a resource to help them embrace their truth and live authentically.

She is scheduled to release two more game-changing books this year Jackie is a power player in the mental health space She has diligently grown her influence from a small podcast to a network of top-notch licensed clinicians, therapists, intervention specialists, and patient advocates who are committed to changing the way healing from past trauma and mental health challenges is perceived and facilitated Jackie Boyd is a champion for mental health awareness, an author, a podcast host, a certified doula, and a certified life coach

She is helping professional women break free from the shame of past trauma and mental health challenges so they can unleash the power of their voice and master success habits that help them unlock their dream life.

In January 2023, Jackie expanded her capacity to help women deal with depression by becoming a certified doula Her goal is to help women have positive and memorable experiences throughout their entire journey There are enough things to think about when preparing to birth a beautiful baby but passing down trauma through childbirth should NOT be one of them

Additionally, Jackie is dedicated to leveraging her gifts and expertise to make a difference in the opioid crisis by partnering with organiB

You hold many titles, can you share with us who Jackie Boyd is outside of entrepreneurship and the accolades?

I can befriend anyone and I enjoy being a resource to others but I am a person who is very fearful of talking in front of others I get major anxiety So after writing my book I decided I had to push through my fear and discontinue my “audio only podcast” and make it a live platform There had to be a face to the voice but because I struggled with imposter syndrome for many years I was so afraid; however I use Melanated Words Podcast to aid me in fear I will not say I am completely comfortable but I am better I love to laugh and make others laugh I want to learn to become a better skater and someday learn to swim and play tennis

What inspired the Brave Blueprint?

My entire brand ( Melanated Words) is based on ways to promote mental health awareness through communication and positive words of affirmation I felt the need to water this 6-month healing journey to help women break free from past trauma and boldly reclaim her voice so she can live abundantly and authentically Coaching is an outlet that allows us to discuss next steps in moving forward with our thoughts and set goals As a coach, I specialized in the areas of recovery and emotional trauma Although I never experience substance abuse, I chose this area because I want my clients to know we all fall short and need encouragement while starting over and restructuring. I want them to find comfort in processing their thoughts and emotions and not dwell on the past but to feel excited about all that life has to offer I also know that going through difficult times can be extremely hard so promoting positivity is a must.

What message do you hope women take away from your platform?

A message I would like women to take away from my podcast is it is okay to speak on your feelings, to not allow others to silence you or tell you how to feel I wanted them to feel encouraged and uplifted

You also hold a gift for helping women through your words, you released "Shattered Soul". Can you tell us about this body of work and what inspired it?

This was a book written on behalf of many broken little girls I struggled writing this book because some of the topics discussed resonated with me as well. It was inspired after I started to find more comfort in speaking on certain issues and saw how much my words began to allow other women to open up I began to get more invites to conferences and speaking engagements while doing the podcast This would be another component to communicating our feelings under the brand name of Melanated Words

Tell us about your new venture into becoming a certified doula, what has the process been like for you?

This venture is an exciting one. I have learned a lot about how important it is for birth parents to have emotional and physical support I enjoy advocating for my birth parents and being supportive while allowing them to speak assertively about the birth and well being of their unborn and newborn baby.

Where do you hope to see your brands in the next 3-5 years?

Can you tell us more about your Podcast

"Melanated Words?

Sure, Melanated Words started as a result of me journaling I eventually decided to birth Melanated Words during covid in the spring of 2020 I have always wanted to speak on my battle with childhood trauma, depression and anxiety challenges but was silenced and afraid I found the courage to not only speak on my challenges but I decided to create a podcast where I could share my thoughts and invite others to come on where they would be free to speak with no judgement

In three-five years I see my brands global and partnering with other entities on state and federal level. It is my hope that all women will be able to be funded through my programs for it will also be a non-profit 501c(3) business as well I will have 3 more books published as they have already been written today

What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

A pretty woman who hustles is a woman who strives to achieve with great intention She is driven and sees any barriers as motivation. Her goals are meaningful and will definitely be worth all the blood, sweat, and tears She is powerful on the inside and pretty on the outside because there was never a day when others saw her give up because she made it look so easy I am the definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles.

WHAT SHOULD NEW YEAR’S LOOK LIKE FOR

BUSINESSES?

When people think of the New Year, they think of celebrating and creating New Year Resolutions. They are not thinking about the importance of what the New Year will bring for their businesses and organizations As a business mentor and consultant, I like to shine a light on all of the funding opportunities in the new year! There are so many opportunities being that we have ventured into a brand-new fiscal year

This means a business and/or organization should have worked to establish its mission, vision, target market, and goals the previous year A business plan should have already been created, and new goals should have been documented while leading into the new year As we enter a new year, a business needs to have a strategy in place. Knowing which direction you wish to go in during this new year in business will help you more than it will hurt you Having a game plan and being able to evaluate that plan will increase your overall performance and productivity

Understand and assess your new target audience during this new year. Relaunch your business and/or organization if you are unsatisfied with past business ventures Reassess your niche and add to it

Plan to hire a salesperson or add more members to your board of directors. Create fundraising strategies along with establishing partnerships with surrounding businesses When the new year comes around, businesses should take every opportunity to grow and thrive in their industry There’s never any time to waste when you own and work on your business and/or organization Each day should be a lesson, and you should achieve a new goal each month.

Planning for this new year in business will help you stay on track. Maximizing your resources and knowledge will also keep your business and/or organization afloat. Hiring a business mentor and consultant will provide you with the proper tools and training to continue your ongoing success Lastly, finding time to take off from your business throughout the new year will allow your mind to rejuvenate, and your creative juice will never go dull! Understand what you want from your business and jump into the new year by following, focusing, and forming everything around those ideas

Success doesn’t just happen. You must manifest it.

Outside of Entrepreneurship, who is Kimberly Lawson in five words?

Mother, friend, philanthropist, creative, and cheerleader

You began writing at the age of six. Can you remember who fostered your love for writing and sharing stories?

My love of stories came from my grandfather, Joseph Morgan, Sr , who was a master storyteller! He could tell you the exact same story a hundred times, and each time you would enjoy it like it was the first time you ever heard the story Plus, I loved reading! As soon as I learned to read, I would devour books! My grandmother, Rowena Morgan, and mother, Lottie Powell, were both avid readers So combine all of this with my desperation for an outlet to express myself in a safe space, and you get a 6-year-old playwright and storyteller

You became an Amazon Best Selling Author within days of your release. What would you say was the secret to making this happen?

I contribute my success with Amazon to my passion for writing, understanding who my target is, and strategic marketing Success doesn’t just happen You must manifest it

Tell us about your publishing company, Sherrelle Ink, LLC?

Sherrelle Ink, LLC is a boutique publishing company that was founded in 2009 when I published my first book, Silent Tears: The Trials and Tribulations of Kimberly Sherrelle In high school, I submitted my poetry book for publication I received a letter from the publishing company stating they would love to publish my book if I would change most of the poems Well, I did not like that; poetry is purposeful writing So at Sherrelle Ink, LLC, we do not try to change the creative vision of the author Most of the books I’ve published have become Amazon Best Sellers

What message do you hope readers take away from your work?

I hope my work inspires That is always my goal and my hope for each reader

What advice do you have for upcoming Authors looking to get their start?

Just start writing! The thing you never birth can never breathe

What inspired the Women of Influence Summit?

You are a proud Mompreneur. How do you balance the daily demand of entrepreneurship while being present for your family?

I schedule and plan almost everything, honestly. This helps me prioritize tasks. I make it very clear before scheduling anything work-related that my kids come first, so I need to be able to pick my kids up from school at least a few days a week. I only travel heavily during one quarter of the year, and when I am away, I FaceTime my kids so I can see their faces and hear their voices I do not accept invitations to events that happen on major holidays or my kids’ birthdays Also, I cut work off at 6pm like my life depends on it unless I am attending an event I also have family nights with kids a couple times a week It is important that my kids feel loved and be seen by me Love is an action verb, so I make sure my actions reflect my love for my kids

So I attend probably 10 conferences a year Some of them are really good, and some of them are quite disappointing. Women of Influence Summit is collectively the good, the bad, and the ugly of my experiences. Things that did not go well with past experiences, I’ve improved with my own conference. Things that were done right with past conferences I’ve attended I have expounded on.

What can attendees expect when attending?

Attendees of the summit can expect to be transformed during the summit. Attendees will leave with new knowledge as well as new opportunities to collaborate with others

What message do you hope women take away from this event?

That as women, we are our MOST POWERFUL when we work together!

I would define a pretty woman who hustles as a lady who is a goal digger with beautiful energy!

Can you share the importance of entrepreneurs having a business strategist?

Entrepreneurs need a sounding board and unbiased individual to run their business ideas by and get honest, effective feedback Additionally, a business strategist and Fractional COO helps business owners stay on track and align with their business goals, mission, and vision All of these services create a pipeline to revenue

What can readers expect from Kimberly Lawson in 2023?

Readers can expect a “plot twist” in 2023! I am maturing as a writer, so readers will see a new side of my creativity in 2023 I also will be releasing the third book in The Amazing Adventures of Kimmie series

Tell us about your entrepreneurial background. How did you get your start as a Fractional COO & Business Strategist?

I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart! I would pay my older brother to clean my room, then supervise his work. At the age of 13, I started a grocery shopping business for elderly family members and friends. In 2019 when Lawson Learning Academy, LLC was officially formed, I was unclear about what my niche would be, but I knew I liked helping small business owners. In 2020 the market became heavily saturated with “coaches,” and I discovered that individuals struggled to pay for “coaching,” so I would lose money when someone quit my Coaching Academy However, established businesses understand the value of the services I provide, and their business has a budget to pay for them So in 2021, I pivoted my business to only working with established businesses and only helping with very specific tasks as a Fractional COO and Business Strategist

Create a challenge that includes a set number of items to throw away, donate, and recycle This can help you to clear out items quickly

Focusing on the end results of decluttering can be daunting, but once it is complete you will be relieved and have positive results. The clarity you may gain can be lifechanging, so consider decluttering today.

You are known as a serial entrepreneur Can you share what that means for those who don’t know?

Me coming where I came from, I have no other choice I’m a single mom, and I know one income is just not enough for the life I chose to live What I mean by that is I want to break the generational curse in my family Seeing my mom work two jobs, especially overnight, I knew I didn’t want to go down that route I knew I had to do something to break that programmed mindset

You have experienced several obstacles that should have delayed your success. Can you share what inspired you to keep pushing forward?

I’m pushing forward because I have children watching me, especially my daughter I want her to know there is no limit to her life and what she wants to do Let one teach one, and I want to be the one to teach others because no one taught me about financial literacy, credit, business, or being self-sufficient

ENTREPRENEUR SPOTLIGHT

OCTAVIA WALKER

She is a single mom that carries that title very well, a serial business woman, and a college student at Georgia State University studying for her master’s degree in Psychology while obtaining her certification to become a motivational speaker and life coach for women through David PowerTalk

She overcame many storms, overcoming physical, verbal, mental, and emotional abuse She set out to reach many women who are going through depression “‘We are all under construction ’ I love that term because we all need healing from past trauma or something holding us back from being the best version of ourselves Everyone is unique in some way Someone needed to break the generational curse, and I had to be the one who did it ”

She has learned so much about herself on this new journey Octavia is in her calling and living in her God-given purpose

“I tell everyone that has dreams and goals to never give up even when things seem foggy and out of place; that means God is up to something ”

Your audience speaks directly to women around the world. What message do you hope women take away from your platform?

You don’t give up on yourself just because someone gives up on you You set the tone for how you want to live and how you want to be treated We, as women, have a gift of discernment and intuition Use it wisely We make our own reality and have the resources to live the life we want We are what we attract If the same things keep happening and the same patterns keep repeating, that means there is some healing to do

What has been your greatest lesson thus far?

My greatest lesson is taking responsibility for my actions Everyone is not the problem or was the problem I am loving the new me and letting fear know that it can’t knock on my door anymore

'What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

A Pretty Woman Who Hustles is a woman who stands in her purpose and divine feminine energy and knows that she is a force to be reckoned with She built herself up from the stones thrown at her and built a foundation
