lights campaign. Last year, our once wonderful, glowing, energy-sapping, just-about-visible-from-space seasonal decorations all but came to an end. Following criticism about the amount of money spent on
Christmas lights during an economic crisis, the council swiped its budget for festive fancies to just £14,450, from more than £70,000. It was a little like swapping a pre-decorated Harrods Christmas tree with a twig in a
pot. There is, however, something to cheer this year. It won’t be quite what we’ve seen before, but traders in the privately-owned Piries Place
