4. Empathy in Parenting Showing empathy involves under Noel McDermott is a Psychotherapist

1. Listen to their opinions By asking your children questions you will teach them that their thoughts and voices are valued and that their opinion matters, meaning they are more likely to come to you if something is bothering them.

2. Identify emotions Children have a heap of emo tions floating around their heads which are often hard to process, and this can make them emo tional without knowing why, such as hunger, anger, sadness, jealousy, and tiredness. As a par ent you can make this easier by helping them identify how they are feeling and why this might be, this in turn will help them or ganise their thoughts and normal ise them.

3. Validate feelings Normalise your child’s emotions, all emotions are okay to have and the more we talk about them the more it validates this. It’s okay to feel sad and down, explain to your child that we all have moments when we feel we want to cry and that grown-ups cry too!

Growing up is hard at the best of times and the last few years have made it even more chal lenging for young people. Men tal health is just as important as physical health and one of a par ent’s key roles is to support their child’s mental wellbeing. Here psychotherapist Noel McDer mott offers the following top 10 tips on helping kids open up and improve communication.

standing what your child is going through and quite sim ply, life is easier for children if they are shown the kindness and compassion they deserve. Children who grow up with kind and loving parents will truly develop empathy them selves. So, make the time to check in with your child, open up the conversation and give them the chance to connect with you, this way if some thing is troubling them, they are more likely to talk to you.

9. PHSE learning at home What is PSHE covering at school, and can you take up some of the themes at home? The school your child attends have duties to their emotional health and wellbeing and the best way for any of us to learn is by repetition. So, look at what is being covered there regarding psy chological health and wellbeing and continue the conversation at home to enrich the message.

6. Open up real life serious conversations Look for opportunities to stimulate conversation based upon what is happening in the world around you as the UK and the world is going though significant challenges which could be weighing on your child’s mind such as the costof-living crisis, the Ukraine war, energy problems, travel woes, political turmoil. All these real-world issues provide great opportunities to put into practice psycho logical skills, they provoke stress responses and the bet ter we are at recognising and managing stress the better our lives will be globally.

5 Family circle time Form habits around setting aside time each week for the family to share feelings in a non-judgemental space. It’s often called ‘circle time’ and it doesn’t have to be a big stress. For example, once a week af ter a family meal spend 5 min utes going around the table giving each person some un interrupted time to check in with their feelings and share them with each other.

8. DOSE up your life Close on the heels of fun is healthy, is understanding how we can give ourselves positive hormonal boosts d-opamine (rewards prosocial activ ities improves motivation) o-xytocin makes you feel loved up after a cud dle, s-erotonin improves mood after getting some sun or having a walk in the park, endorphins make you feel great after strenuous activities such as a game of footie. Kids love getting this sort of knowledge and maybe if they are younger, you can do a hor mone treasure map for example showing how and where in home and the local area they can get their fix of each hormone.

The key to all health and well being is learning about it then doing it in real life, like if you go to the gym, learn how to use the equipment then use it reg ularly! It’s the same with psy chological fitness ‘equipment’, learn how to use the skills then drop them into family’s life and use them every day.

10. Learn mindfulness Mindfulness teaches kids emotional resilience and helps them find the strength to deal with their emo tions and manage them. Being mindful means greater well being, more positive emotion, and less anxiety and negative emotion. Teach your children simple breathing techniques, work with them to understand the simple power of taking long, slow, and deep breaths, a valuable self-management tool for Noellife.comments: “It’s impor tant we don’t try and do the emotional and psychological work for our kids but encourage them to develop the internal resources they need for life to manage psychological distress effectively and healthily. Teaching a core set of psycho logical skills will equip your kids better than if you solve their problems for them: active lis tening, emotional intelligence, validation and strong self-es teem, empathy with others, seeing the bigger picture by be ing mindful in life are a great set of skills to develop.”

7. Healthy is happy and happy is healthy Plan activities with your kids of course but also use it as an oppor tunity to show them how being psychologically healthy is the same as having fun! Wellbeing psycholog ically is no more complex than do ing stuff we enjoy such as having a run around the park, helping your kids understand this simple fact is a great gift.

EDUCATIONTheSource FAMILY16

As I look towards the new ac ademic year and my first full ac ademic year as Head Master of Brighton College Al Ain, I do so with much excitement and anticipation of what the new year will bring. As part of this exercise, I have been reflecting upon my first term in Al Ain and what it is that sets Brighton College Al Ain apart. Whilst, of course, there are many similarities between schools such as academic excellence, breadth of curriculum and extracurricu lar offerings, I wonder how many genuinely deliver on their promis es? I have worked in a number of schools around the world and have had the pleasure of being Head Master in three schools in the Unit ed Kingdom, each with a different approach to education, but with two common threads; academic excellence and community. Each school was academically aspira tional for every child and success ful in their aspiration as a result of its people – that being its commu nity of pupils, parents and staff. It is safe to say, when the school community is in tune and shares a common goal, so too do the children within that community. Schools with thriving commu nities feel different. They are a positive, happy and aspirational atmosphere filled with compas sionate problem solvers and risk takers, and Brighton College Al Ain certainly displays all of these traits. It came as no surprise to me on my arrival at the school earlier this year that I witnessed children achieving amazing things, both in side and outside the classroom, which I believe to be a result of the fantastic culture in which they learn and play. We could call this the Brighton College Al Ain culture but I prefer the word community. A community is somewhere that re spects and wishes to care for every one involved, it is something to which we all belong. A community laughs together and plays together – it isn’t tense or inhibited. Everything we do at Brighton Col lege Al Ain is so children can find their voices and so they can pos sess and express themselves with

confidence and support one another with joy. We also help children to understand that they are part of something larger, and never before in modern times has this been so vital. TS Eliot said, “What life have you, if you have not life together? There is no life that is not in com munity”, and I think he was right. It is a human need as old as time to want to be part of a community and to feel a sense of belonging. I have witnessed first-hand how our pupils have identified solu tions to the challenges they have most recently faced and demon strated a deep desire to make the most of every opportunity available. I am in no doubt that our pupils will enter life beyond Brighton College Al Ain having not only achieved academically but also with a deep desire to make a positive difference to others. The youngsters of today are often ma ligned in the media, and with lit tle justification, but I believe that if they could meet our young men and women they would see that our world is in safe hands. Central to the brilliance and won der of any community is its peo ple and Brighton College Al Ain is no different. From our staff to our pupils and parents, I am surround ed by passionate, thoughtful and creative people who are endlessly ambitious for this school. I am in credibly proud to be able to lead a team of teachers who so skil fully and passionately guide and support our pupils through the challenges that school can pres ent. To witness happy, confident, compassionate, hard-working pu pils around school demonstrates to me that my colleagues provide an environment and community in which our pupils feel safe to take risks, to challenge themselves and each other, and to fulfil their po tential in all areas of their learning. Looking ahead to the future of ed ucation, I believe that schools need to create a sense of community and teach pupils the importance of this, as well as the importance of love, friendship, kindness and compas sion and how these elements will help them find their way in the world, a world which will present different challenges from those you and I faced as young people. I’m delighted to have made the move to Al Ain with my family and I feel genuinely privileged to be given the opportunity to lead the Bright on College Al Ain community. I look forward to launching a number of exciting initiatives across the new academic year to further develop the educational experience offered to our pupils, and in doing so, having the chance to nurture and grow the community that has welcomed me.

“Doc, I don’t eat sweets or chocolates and I brush my teeth after every meal, but still I form new cavities quite often, I am sick and tired of this.” Are you able to relate to this, if yes, continue to read Ion.hear this quite often from my patients and the frustra tion in their tone can be quite disturbing sometimes. I have always wanted to help them as much as I could and that’s the reason I chose to write on this topic this time. Lets get to the basics. Why do cavities form on teeth? I shall try to keep it simple without going into too much medical detail on the forma tion of dental caries (cavities). Cavities are formed by the continuous action of bacte ria that are typically present in our mouths. It’s common sense that if we get rid of these bacteria, we can get rid of cav ities. While it’s impossible to completely get rid of them, it is quite possible to weaken these Webacteria.can do this by cutting out the fuel that these bacteria feed off. If we reduce their source of energy, they will in turn become Whatweaker.is their source of energy? It’s the leftover food that you have consumed throughout the day. your tea, coffee, biscuits, chips, croissants, fruit juices etc. Sugary food remnants are highly conducive to the formation of cavities, but it does not mean that non-sug ary food does not cause tooth decay. Any food rem nant in the mouth can cause tooth decay. The solution? So how do you cut the fuel supply to the cavity-form ing bacteria? Make sure there is no food remnant in the mouth. ‘Anything you consume other than water, should be followed by heavy rinsing with water’. I call this water-brushing. When you have removed the food remnants with water, you have significantly reduced the supply of fuel to harmful bacteria, you have weakened them and taken control. I have had this habit of run ning my tongue along the surfaces of teeth after I eat something solid or sticky and I find that so much of food chunks are sometimes stuck onto the teeth even after wa ter-brushing, which I slowly and gradually remove with my tongue itself. Try it out and let me know if it helps. Second solution? How good is your brushing? Is there any way to find out if your brushing is right, and if your brush is actually reach ing all the surfaces of your teeth? Are you aware that every tooth has five surfaces to be cleaned? Dentists have always told you that you should brush your teeth well, I am not going to tell you the same stuff again but we all know it is true. There is a fan tastic way to evaluate your brushing – disclosing solu tion/tablets. This is how it works – first, you brush your teeth the normal way, then you take disclosing tablet, chew it well, swish it around your mouth and spit it out. The areas that are not yet cleaned take up the red stain from the tablet (a word of caution here – your tongue and cheeks could get stained, so do this when you are at home, after work). Now that you can actually visualize the areas that your toothbrush did not reach (even though you were thinking that you were doing a good brushing) all that you have to do is take your brush once again and brush those red-stained are as until the stain is gone. When you do this every day for about two weeks, you will find that almost the same areas of your teeth are get ting stained every day. Work on improving your brushing strokes to cover those are as, once you are confident of your progress, taper the use of disclosing solution to once in three days, then once a week, then once a month and so on. Third solution? A few of us are actually very prone to developing cavities in between the teeth, the area that’s almost inacces sible to a toothbrush. For those of you who fall into this category, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that even if you cor rect your brushing with dis closing solution as explained above, you might still contin ue to form cavities in between the teeth. But the good news is, you have Water Pik water flosser for your rescue. Yes, it will thrust a powerful jet of wa ter out of its tip and when po sitioned in between the teeth (both from the cheek side and tongue side) it can be almost as effective as manual floss. Remember this is not an alter native to brushing (I can hear some of you shouting with happiness “Ahhh, I can use only the Water Pik and stop brush ing altogether”), it’s a valuable adjunct to brushing. I hope it’s clear and you are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, I hope you have the confidence that you have the knowledge to avoid the forma tion of cavities.

Over time, everyday dirt and debris from the road can build up and block your engine’s cooling system, preventing it from managing internal temperatures. A coolant flush drains these contaminants from your engine, making it a crucial procedure for maintaining a healthy vehicle and avoiding radiator clogs, engine corrosion, leaks, thermostat damage, and water pump issues.

Overheating on the road In warm weather, engine temperatures can rocket from their normal range of 75 to 105°C to as high as 130°C (266°F), So, it’s no surprise that overheating can occur, causing mid-journey driving issues and potentially expensive or even irreparable damage. To avoid these difficulties, it’s firstly important to be able to spot the signs. Hints that your engine is overheating include burning smells, thumping noises, a temperature gauge in the red zone, and an excessively hot bonnet/hood. But what can we do to deal with these warnings once they present themselves? And how can we prevent them from occurring at all, so our summer road trips are as stress-free and pleasant as possible? Let’s take a look. Carry out a coolant flush

Your car or motorbike manufacturer’s manual should offer specialist advice on when and how to do a coolant flush for your model. But as a rule, you should try to carry out a flush every two years or every 40,000 miles—whichever comes first.

The Source FAMILY22

Fausto Lupone, Automotive Sector Expert at PETRONAS Lubricants International

Imagine going for a run on a hot summer’s day. It’s tougher than usual, right? We huff, we puff, and we often struggle to reach distances we’d otherwise find easy. Don’t worry—even elite marathon runners suffer a drop-off during warmer weather. Now, imagine that same run on that same hot day, but this time you’re encased in scorching metal, and surrounded by gases, sparks, and steam. And the worst part? You’re carrying an unwitting group of excitable passengers on your worn-out Welcomeback. to the life of your car or motorcycle’s engine.

5 tips for keeping your engine cool on a summer road trip

begin slowly moving again, try to avoid riding your brakes—brake drag further increases the load on your engine. Instead, let a larger gap open up between you and the vehicle in front before you move forward. If none of these steps help, and your engine temperature is climbing out of control, pull over to the side of the road. Then, open your car or motorbike’s hood or bonnet to let heat directly escape out of the engine bay. However, under no circumstances should you then touch any internal components, particularly the engine or radiator. A vehicle’s water and coolant mix is pressurised when hot, and opening the radiator cap can cause the coolant to spray out and cause serious skin burns. If you must open it, wait until your engine has completely cooled. Call a garage or mechanic

While these tips and quick fixes can make a difference, when overheating persists your engine may be suffering from a deeper problem that requires specialist Ifhelp.you spot your engine gauge spending most of its time in the red zone, pull over and call a mechanic. You can use trusted international workshop locator tools to find your nearest engine repair and service expert, even if you’re far from home. Then, depending on your vehicle’s condition, drive to the workshop or request a tow truck to protect your engine from any further damage. The mechanic will be able to diagnose the issue and hopefully get you back on the road ASAP. And they should be able to advise you on preventative oil measures, too. Choose a enginequalityoil

Modern engines operate at higher temperatures and with more moving parts than ever before. To function properly, these moving parts need to be lubricated to reduce friction, while dissipating heat to protect the engine’s Aperformance.high-quality

Regular coolant flushing should help your radiator regulate engine temperatures and nip overheating in the bud. However, we can’t always be this prepared or proactive. So, what’s should we do if we face an overheating vehicle mid-journey? Turn off the air and switch on the heat (cars only) It sounds crazy, but it’s true: to cool your car’s engine, you may need to pump warm air into your passenger compartments. This process begins by turning off your air conditioning. It may feel a little more uncomfortable, especially when driving in the summer heat, but using the AC puts extra strain on your engine and harms its ability to cool. In turn, switching on your heating and blowers actually transfers heat away from the engine. It also opens up your heater core, a smaller version of the radiator that sits towards the front of your car, giving your engine the chance to draw in fresher, cooler air and operate at a safer temperature. Rev your engine or pull over If your journey involves regular stops and starts due to traffic or stoplights, it’s a good idea to rev your engine while stationary. Revving helps to pump water through the radiator and speed up the fan (if controlled by the engine), cooling internal Buttemperatures.onceyou

engine oil for both cars and motorcycles can help to fight excessive engine temperature by regulating and absorbing heat, defending critical components from damage, and reducing fuel consumption. This is particularly important during summer—engines require a thicker, heavier-weight oil during the warmer months as heat can thin the oil out.

Fortunately, multi-viscosity oils can adapt to year-round temperatures by flowing well in the winter, and then thickening up and protecting in the summer. For instance, a 10W40 oil has a viscosity grade of 10 in lower temperatures and 40 in higher Remember:ones. you must choose the correct oil and viscosity for your model to avoid further vehicle issues. Before you buy, use tools such as a lubricant recommender to find a product that keeps your engine safe and running smoothly. Stay cool throughout the summer Ultimately, the engine is the heart of your vehicle. So, just like when we run, we must treat it with great care and attention. Regular overheating can limit its lifespan and major repairs can even exceed its entire value, resulting in an insurance writeoff. As the famous saying goes, ‘prevention is better than cure’. While you might not expect your engine to overheat, and feel you can fix it even if it does, this may not always be the case. Instead, it’s best to carry out regular coolant flushes and invest in high-quality engine oils, regardless of how well your engine seems to be running. It might just save you stacks of time and cash—and help keep your big summer road trip as pleasant as you’d planned.

Although the inspection took place back in November, schools were told that they would not get their reports until June of 2022. Meanwhile, being as con fident as he was, Thomas called in a team of inspectors from the British government to inspect the school under British Ofsted standards. Thomas said, “Back in April we called for this British Schools Overseas inspection and again, we were confident we would secure this award due to the hardworking and dedicated staff that the school has”.

In November 2021, the Executive Principal, Andrew Thomas, was one of only a handful of schools that asked ADEK to inspect the school with their Irtiqa’a team. Thomas said, “Most people thought we were mad. We had just seen many rule changes oc cur over the summer holiday of 2021 that needed implement ing from August onwards, but a small core of dedicated staff, stayed behind last summer and worked through, to prepare the school. My rule of thumb is that the school should always be inspection ready and indeed, the inspection should just be a by-product of what we do on a day to day basis for the chil dren; so I was confident we were ready”.

How to protect yourself from Financial Scams

How can I protect myself? Scammers are becoming more so phisticated in their tactics. Gone are the days in which a scam com prised of a message from a ‘Prince’ claiming to be gifting you millions in exchange for your bank details. Some scams look more like this one. It’s 5.30pm and Rashid is finishing a busy day at work. He receives a call from his bank informing him that their records are out of date, and he needs to provide some details to ensure his bank account is not frozen. He is wary, but the caller knows some of his personal details, so he thinks it’s legitimate. Pro ceeding, he reveals his account de tails, and the caller instructs him to relay the OTP (one time password) from his phone. By the time he reaches home, all his money has been wiped from his account. As soon as Rashid realises, he contacts the bank and the po lice, but all evidence of the attacker has disappeared, and he struggles to reclaim his money as he willing ly gave his personal details and the OTP. This is a fictional story, but a common occurrence, nonetheless. However, there are ways to protect yourself from falling victim:

call, text, or email you, pretend ing to represent that company. You may be asked for personal details under the guise of up dating records or sent emails containing malicious links. Al ternatively, they could offer you ‘great deals’ or ‘lucrative invest ment opportunities.’ Clicking the links or handing over your details could result in financial loss or identity theft if the hacker gains access to your device.

Lottery scams

The fraudster will create a fake charity and ask you to donate money, manipulating you by making you feel guilty or sympa thetic to the cause. They could email or call you to promote the charity, but the money will not go towards any charitable cause. These types of swindles became common during the Covid-19 pandemic when people began donating large amounts of mon ey to people affected by the vi rus. Depending on where a char ity is located, the organisation will likely have to register on an official database which reports legitimacy checks. In the UAE, you can check the Government website for registered charities.

If you have received a call or text congratulating you on winning a large sum of money from an un known source, it may have been a lottery scam. This type of fraud involves you giving bank details to receive your winnings, when in reality, the scammer then pro ceeds to empty your account. Al ways check the company claim ing to be offering you a prize before relaying any of your bank details. eCommerce scams This involves a fake email or mes sage on a social media platform informing you of a recent pur chase either from a bogus com pany or from an established on line shopping merchant. There is usually a link to a form to fill in to avail a refund which the victim dutifully completes, only to have their money stolen. Alternatively, the scammers ask for payment to deliver a package, which is nev er delivered. Ensure you contact the company directly and don’t hand over any money if you nev er purchased anything.

Charity scams

Have you ever seen a listing on a popular site such as Airbnb and wondered whether it’s too good to be true? It may have been an advance fee scam, whereby the customer pays upfront for a service or product which turns out to be fake. These scammers design professional-looking cop ycat websites to trick people into parting with their money. Check the website URL carefully as there are usually minor spell ing errors such as double letters that at first glance may not be noticed. Employment scams Particularly relevant to people working overseas, these scam mers pose as recruiters or em ployers and create fake adver tisements and opportunities. Once they ‘recruit’ you, they will ask for money upfront to cover visa, insurance, or other paper work costs. When you send the money, you will likely never hear from them again. Red flags of this type of scam include inflat ed salary or package deals and recruitment without any type of interview. Personal scams Perhaps the most intrusive form of scam, this fraudster imperson ates a friend or relative in dis tress and asks for a money trans fer to help them out. To avoid being detected, the criminal may pretend to be a child or friend of your relative. Always contact your friend or relative before transfer ring any money, even if the situa tion seems urgent.

Travellers preparing for longhaul flights or for those who don’t like to unpack when they get to their destination should place dryer sheets in their lug gage. This will keep everything smelling fresh. Prevent spillages To avoid any liquids spilling all over your case, unscrew the lid of your bottles and place a small piece of cling film over the opening and screw the lid back on. Alternatively, pack all liquids in a plastic bag. Packing chargers Avoid wires getting tangled amongst your belongings by wrapping up all chargers and electricals and packing them together in a small bag or pack ing cube. Outfit packing Before packing, arrange your items of clothing into outfits rather than individual items. This will encourage you to think more strategically about the clothes you need and will help to stop temptations for over packing. Jewellery Getting on holiday to find all of your necklaces have tangled in your bag is frustrating. To pre vent this, pop your necklaces into reusable straws. Roll up Rather than folding all of your clothes, try rolling them up to take up less space and avoid lots of creases. Bulky clothes Wear heavy clothes and shoes at the airport rather than stuff ing them into your case. Layer up with jumpers and jackets and wear your heaviest shoes. Wrap up shoes Cotton bags are great for hold ing shoes inside a suitcase as they can be washed as soon as you’re home. Alternatively, shower caps are great for hold ing muddy or dirty shoes and means you can keep them away from your clean clothes.

Fragile items Avoid breakages of glass per fume and aftershave bottles by putting them inside your packed shoes or in a sock for extra padding. Group-IB, one of the global leaders in cybersecurity, has identified a widescale phishing campaign targeting users in the Middle East by impersonating well-known postal services from Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Since as early as 2020, the Group-IB Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-GIB) analysts have detected over 270 domains making use of the regional de livery and postal service brands. Thereafter, phishing schemes exploiting the delivery topic became one of the highest ROI activities for fraudsters. As such, globally, CERT-GIB iden tified more than 400 domains impersonating postal brands as part of this phishing campaign, with more than a half of them (276) intended for the users in the Middle East. Attackers have been spotted employing over 30 brands of post services and rele vant delivery organizations from over 20 countries worldwide to target their victims. In the Middle East specifically, scam mers have impersonated over 13 different delivery brands, postal operators, and public companies from at least eight different countries, including Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Most of the 276 websites iden tified were inactive at the time of the analysis. These domains are short-lived by design to complicate detection and in stead, new websites are reg ularly created. According to Group-IB, the latest resource impersonating a Middle East ern postal brand appeared on July 14, 2022. In line with the responsible dis closure protocol, GroupIB always does its best to mitigate these threats. In this case, CERT-GIB alert ed the regional Comput er Emergency Response teams of the active phishing domains and continues to monitor the infrastructure for the appearance of new ma licious resources exploit ing the delivery theme. • Users are advised to stay vigilant when clicking on the links from emails or SMS, regardless of the sender. To avoid falling prey to such scams, users should only use official websites to track their packages, where they can also include the contact details of customer sup port teams. Usually, legitimate delivery companies do not send payment requests by SMS or via email.

Attackers utilize distinct phishing kits for specific brands. Howev er, they all have certain similar characteristics, namely, the use of a script that validates the number of a banking card, so that the users do not enter in valid or non-existing cards. In addition, the scripts that process input data have unconventional naming patterns: jeddah.php, riyadh.php, dammam.php, etcdepending on the location of the brand that the phishing page is trying to mimic. This and the con nections between the identified phishing domains suggest that the campaign targeting users in the Middle East is like ly to have been orches trated by the same group of cybercriminals.

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi Covering 37 acres Yas Waterworld has over 40 rides and attractions to choose from. Dedicated areas for younger children, and very young children (dedicated shaded areas and pools), mean that the whole family is cared for and entertained. As with all the Yas Island Parks, once inside nearly all activities are free with the exception of the pearl diving experience. Pearl Diving experiences start from AED 85-00 pp and include a pearl that is presented in a lovely suede bag. The instructor spends about 30 minutes training participants and getting them ready to dive the 15m freehold tank to retrieve their oyster. Once on the surface, the shell is opened and the prize pearl is removed, cleaned and presented to the diver. For AED100-00pp the experience is the same but also in cludes a special edition Yas Water Park souvenir towel. There are multiple reasonably priced food options available. We found the burger portions too big for one person so you will definitely not be going hungry. No snacks or outside food is allowed into park. Free lockers are located in the shower and changing areas. For your own comfort, be sure to take your own towels as this is some times overlooked by visitors. Park timings: Operating hours during August Sunday to Thursday from 1 - 27: from 10:00am - 8:00pm Sunday to Thursday from 28 - 31 August: from 10:00am - 7:00pm Fridays: the park is open to the public from 9:00am - 4:00pm, then operates for Ladies Night from 5:00pm - 11:00pm Saturdays : for Neon Nights from 10:00amhttps://www.yaswaterworld.com/9:00pm

Entry Requirements: To enter the Park, guests are required to show a “green pass” status on AL HOSN mobile app or by providing proof of being fully vaccinated along with a negative PCR test result with in the last 14 days. Non-vaccinated guests can enter the Park by providing a negative PCR test result within 48 hours prior to entry.

The top attractions according to our junior review team (8 and 10 years old) have got to be the Bedrock river adventure which is a Flintstones-themed log ride which is sure to make a splash. The fast and furry-ous rollercoast er will keep you moving like the Roadrunner. Join this fast, fur ry-ous race around coyote coun try, high above dunes, over hills and around tight turns as Wile E. Coyote does his best to catch Roadrunner, this ride is wild. There are a fair amount of attrac tions that are also “thrill-free” which are great if you have older people in the family not wanting to get their adrenaline pumping. Would highly recommend the Ani-Mayhem factory ride to see who’s gonna be ACME’s Employ ee of The Month? Grab your bar code scanner, hop in your delivery vehicle and take up the challenge to see who gets the most points! For those looking for a more intense thrill, our two top recom mendations are: Riddler Revolution: It’s puzzling, it’s tricky… are you ready to take on the fiendish conundrums of The Riddler? Rock, spin and twist your way through this thrilling coaster ride in Gotham City. Scarecrow Scare-Raid Diabolically dizzying, fearfully fright ful. Scarecrow is known for bringing his victims’ worst fears to life. Has he got yours in his sights on this wild, in teractive ride? Spinning and twisting even upside down, this ride is certain ly not for the faint-hearted. When you need a break - head to Starlight Plaza restaurant for some mouthwatering delights. Linen table cloths, character meet and greets and gourmet food options are the order of the day. Not to be missed, this expe rience will take your visit to the next level.

Warner Bros Abu Dhabi Definitely a top choice for fam ilies with younger kids, Warner Bros Abu Dhabi island is another brilliant indoor destination that is easy on the pocket and an ideal way to “get out” while still being in a comfortable airconditioned Theenvironment.majorityof the rides are suit able for younger children along with a soft play maze area (ACME FACTORY) situated close to sever al dining options so parents can relax while the little ones play.

Park Map Another top tip is to download the park map before you go. That way you can keep track of all the rides you have visited and be sure not to miss any thing on your visit. Available on the WB website or see next page for copy. Park Timings for August: 1 - 28 August From 11:00am - 8:00pm 29 - 31 August From 12:00pm - 8:00pm Opening hours are subject to change, please keep an eye out for https://www.wbworldabudhabi.com/updates. The Shakotan Peninsula is the only place offering boat dives in winter, and while it may be cold, the re wards for those who brave the low tem peratures are many. Traversing a distance of more than 3,000 kilometres north to south, the island nation of Japan is surrounded by vast tracts of sea, ranging from icy cold currents in the far north, to subtropi cal waters in the south. With so much water around, it’s only natural that the country should offer exceptional diving. This is not div ing for beginners – it’s easy to get bumped into by the sharks which, although harmless, can knock di vers’ masks and regulators off. Divers without intermediate skills should not embark on this adven ture. ENVIRONMENTOnthe International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems EAD Reflects on Mangrove Restoration Efforts Undertaken in Abu Dhabi The Source FAMILY82

The UAE is always looking ahead, and as a nation it has developed strategic initiatives and plans up to 2050 and beyond. The vision for the UAE was inspired by its Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, who, with one eye on the future, saw beyond the present and the past. He is also known as the First Environmentalist and pioneered most of our environmental conservation efforts. The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is consistently walking in his footsteps because he paved the way for of the nation’s environmental efforts. During COP26 last year in Glasgow, the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, announced a nationwide plan to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030. Additionally, in February of this year, Abu Dhabi set out ambitious plans to establish the emirate as a global hub for research and innovation in support of conservation through the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative. This was announced during HRH Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge’s landmark visit to the UAE. This initiative is an extension of the Blue Carbon project, focusing on the importance of mangroves and their role in combatting climate change through carbon sequestration. The Agency plays multiple roles in the drive to combat climate change, and aims to improve its data collection process through the use of technology, artificial intelligence and spatial techniques, providing data on greenhouse gas emissions, and carbon dioxide in Anotherparticular.Agency goal is to clarify mitigation measures that will minimise environmental impact from different sectors, including health, water and infrastructure, in addition to developing ways to reduce the impact on species and ecosystems.

Moreover, the Abu Dhabi Blue Carbon Demonstration Project was implemented and led by the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), together with EAD – as Abu Dhabi was the ideal setting for such a project due to its innovative concepts and commitment to environmentallyresponsible development.

The project found that, overall, Blue Carbon ecosystems in Abu Dhabi are calculated to store within the soil and biomass more than an estimated 41 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. To put this into context, it accounted for more than the emirate’s annual emissions from the oil and gas (26.4 million tonnes) or water and electricity (30.9 million tonnes) sectors at that time. The success of the project led to Phase II, known as the National Blue Carbon Project in 2015, which extended the understanding and valuation aspects of coastal Blue Carbon ecosystem services throughout the AbuUAE.Dhabi has the oldest known mangrove restoration and afforestation initiatives anywhere in the world, with some stands in the emirate being nearly 100 years old. In 2015, mangroves occupied an estimated 14,117 hectares in scattered locations throughout the emirate. During the past 10 years, at least 15 million young mangroves have been planted along the coast of Abu Dhabi.

EAD continues to take the lead for mangrove restoration in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and its future plan involves developing cost effective, technology and innovation led mangrove restoration programmes, restore lost, degraded and potential mangrove areas with the best international practices and to engage stakeholder and involve public and private entities in mangrove conservation and restoration initiatives. The

In February of 2022, in partnership with Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, EAD launched the Etihad Mangrove Forest to provide guests, corporate accounts and partners the ability to adopt mangroves in Abu Dhabi to help reduce their carbon footprint.

The Etihad Mangrove Forest is the culmination of multiple joint programmes between Etihad, EAD, Jubail Island, The Storey Group, and other partners to support UAE mangrove conservation projects, and develop new carbon sinks and natural resources to absorb carbon from the atmosphere following the principle of: “Abu Dhabi for the TheWorld”.Environment Agency –Abu Dhabi also announced the successful completion of its Blue Carbon Environmental and Social Responsibility Project, which aims to protect mangroves in the emirate. The project was implemented in collaboration with ENGIE – the low carbon emission service providerand in partnership with Distant Imagery, which specializes in drone engineering and restoring blue carbon, and involved striving to plant more than 35,000 mangrove seeds in the Mirfa Lagoon in Abu Dhabi, using highly innovative drone planting technology. The success rate exceeded 35%.

In addition to their climaterelated benefits, Blue Carbon ecosystems are valuable to coastal communities like Abu Dhabi. They protect shorelines, improve water quality, and provide nursery grounds for a wide range of terrestrial and aquatic species. They also support responsible coastal tourism and have important cultural and social Thevalue.UAE was one of the first countries to recognise the importance of coastal habitats, and mangrove restoration, and conservation efforts have been in place since the 1970s.
