ABU CRICKET & SPORTS HUB’S TOLERANCE OVAL
Awarded Day/Night ICC Accreditation
Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub’s (ADCSH) magnificent Tolerance Oval has been granted full International Cricket Council (ICC) accreditation as a day/ night venue, meaning the ven ue can host official T20 and One Day International cricket matches just two years after its opening.
The Tolerance Oval becomes the fourth of its kind in the country to gain this level of ICC accreditation, alongside Dubai International Stadium, Sharjah Cricket Stadium and its elder sibling Zayed Cricket Stadium.
As a result, ADCSH not only makes history as the first crick eting destination in the world to house two such day/night, fully ICC accredited ovals on the same facility, but the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) increases its group of facilities capable of hosting even more cricket of the highest level.
Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports
Hub CEO, Matt Boucher said: “Our vision for Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub is two-pronged; we want our incredible venue to host the highest calibre of international events while simultaneously catering for the 760,000 community sport ath letes that use our facility annu ally.
The Tolerance Oval is a prime example of this vision, having already hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up match es, teams from the 2021 Indian Premier League, 2021 Pakistan Super League, 2021 Abu Dhabi T10, as well as the inaugural T20 Abu Dhabi Community Cup final in the last 12 months.
We also wanted the Emirates Cricket Board to have a fourth international ground at their disposal to make Abu Dhabi even more capable of hosting major, multi-venue global com petitions and tournaments. By gaining ICC accreditation in such a short period of time, we have successfully managed to do just that, and we look forward to
more world-class cricket coming to the country, and Abu Dhabi, as a result.”
Emirates Cricket Board Gener al Secretary, Mubashir Usmani, added: “We applaud Abu Dhabi Cricket in adding yet another ICC accredited stadium to their ven ue and to the UAE’s world-class cricket offerings. It immediately bolsters the country’s cricketing product and further establishes the UAE as one of the best sporting destinations in the world, while increasing Emirates Cricket’s abili ty to host and deliver multi-venue ICC tournaments and the world’s best franchise competitions.”
The Tolerance Oval has a total of nine turf pitches and five broad cast-rigged grass wickets, with full LED floodlights and an array of training facilities that include 20 natural grass wickets in the near by international nets area.
These facilities were highly commended by the ECB’s inspectors, with the Tolerance Oval given the highest rating in 17 out of the 29 categories under the examination which was then ratified by the ICC. It ranked, among others, as very good for its pitch, outfield, practice areas, changing facilities, artificial lighting, and Anti-Cor ruption Unit requirements.
The England Men’s Test side will be one of the first major interna tional teams to utilise the facility after its accreditation. They arrive at Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub on Friday 18 November for a training-camp prior to this winter’s tour of Pakistan and will face their Lions counterparts in a three-day warm-up match at the Tol erance Oval from Wednesday 23 November 2022.
They say 40 is the new 30! As the years tick by it becomes much easier to invest in such an idea. Speaking from personal experience, I myself am a much fitter, leaner, healthi

its!
er, happier person in my 40s than I was in my 20s and 30s. Why is this? I can sum it up in 1 simple word; behaviour! I simply display better habits now than I did in any previous phase of my life. This is why I am enjoying the most fulfilling spell of my life so far at 43 years old. Over the last few years, I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of people in their 40s,50s and 60s make the same changes I did. Have a look at the fol lowing simple rules and start changing your habits today! You want to change your life, start by changing your hab
1. Exercise…. Try and add some form of ex ercise into your daily routine, 5- 6 days per week. Start with something between 2060 minutes per day. Choose something that is enjoyable! Fat loss and cardiovascular health is all about getting your heart beating faster. The method in which you do this is not important right now. NEVER pick something you don’t enjoy. Walking is a fantastic start for beginners. If I were to give an exception to this rule it would be to
post-menopausal women. I would strongly advise you in clude resistance/weight train ing into your startup plan if at all possible. There are lots of studies suggesting this kind of addition will improve fat burning capabilities, increase bone health alongside over whelming data suggesting a huge improvement in mental health. Get in that gym ladies! You don’t have to break world records, simply start on the lightest weight and nail the movement.
2. Food….
Try to eat 4-5 times a day. Have a protein source in every meal and try to keep your higher carbohydrate meals closest to your most active part of the day. If you are not exercising in the evening, try to avoid carbohydrates in your final meal. Look at carbohy drates as fuel. If you are not at a part of the day where you are overly active, theoretical ly you don’t really need fuel. Keep this in mind.
3. Treat meal….
If you have been good during the week, have a nice treat meal at the weekend plus a dessert. There is no such thing as bad food if eaten in moder ation. If you eat 27 junk food meals per week plus 1 salad, do you think the salad will have an impact on your body composition over the week?
The same goes the other way around. 1 cheat meal a week will satisfy cravings and have zero impact on fat gain over
the course of the week.
4. Have regular health checkups…
We are very fortunate to live in a time where most health conditions are controllable. These conditions are only controllable if we are aware they exist in the first place. A basic haemoglobin test will flag certain areas we could potentially improve by taking charge of our own nutrition and exercise. Things like HDL LDL, Thyroid, Blood Glucose levels and Blood Pressure can all be controlled without the use of medicine.
5. Weight Training….
As we approach our 40’s we start to lose a little muscle mass. Around 10% per dec ade is the general consensus. This can be addressed and re versed if we take action.
Assuming we consume an adequate amount of protein (around 2g per kg of body weight) we can grow muscle tissue through our 40s, 50s, 60s and even 70s depending on our training history. 45 minutes per day 3-5 days per week is more than enough to get this process started.
As exercises get easier we can add more repetitions or increase the weight or resist ance. As we get stronger our body creates a need for more food so we get to eat more and stay leaner. VERY FEW negatives here! Resistance training carries a plethora of additional benefits. Fat loss, increased bone density, im
proved insulin sensitivity and mental health to name but a few.
I have numerous customers approach me and ask if there is any point trying to start their fitness journey in their 40s or 50s. There is a stigma going around that we turn 40 and everything shuts down and it is impossible to get in shape all of a sudden. I am of the absolute opposite opin ion. I think it is miles easier to get in shape in your 40s than it was in your 20s.
As we get older we get smart er. We get more organized. Most of us are married with families so we have less social commitments. Some of us are lucky enough to have enough disposable income to help pay for higher quality food sources, trainers and coaches. Metabolism and hormones
are always on the top of the excuse list for people in their 40s and 50s when it comes to fat loss.
Metabolism is said to reduce 1% a year after you hit 20. If you are eating 2000 calories per day that is 20 calories a day of a disadvantage. Your hormones are not slowing you down, it is your behav iour. Take this on board, start designing your plan and watch your health and fitness sore to levels you never believed pos sible.

PROMOTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
As we begin a new term for football at Pinna cle Sports Al Ain, we would like to thank Kanad Hospital for sponsoring our players with a new kit. We appreciate this new partner ship as we look forward to a successful and exciting 2022 football program which will have recreational and player pathways with some possible camps, tours locally and inter nationally.
Representatives of Kanad Hospital Dr. Ralph Leo ( Kanad Hospital Board Chairman), Dr.Greg Neal - Kanad Hospital CEO and Dr. John Birky - family physician met Pinnacle Sports representatives Gilmore Saa iman and Rob Botes to hand over the kits.
Managing Director Gilmore Saaiman says the aim of the project is to contribute to the development of football in Al Ain whereby we will be de livering the social, health and community benefits that are well-recognized from com munity participation in sup port for sporting teams and competitions. We would like to unite local communities around the common interest and provide role models for young people to participate in exercise and organized team sports. Lastly to play the vital stage in the player pathway for talented junior footballers on their way to international representation and provide the opportunity for develop ment and promotion of wom en and youth.
Some of the benefits for sportsmen and women are:
Better Emotional Health
The nature of sports teachers’ children valuable lessons about struggling and triumph in the face of adversity.
Improved Physical Health, Con fidence and Self-Esteem
Through working hard, winning, and coming to know their own abilities and capabilities, confi dence and self-esteem in your child will soar.
Forges Social Bonds and Teach ers Teamwork
Football is a team sport and it teaches children how to work with their peers towards a com
mon goal. Working as part of a group and spending time with their peers will help them with making social connections that stay with them throughout their lives. Whether they play with the same group of teammates through out the program they’ll be learning how to contribute to a common goal, man age their time, take direc tion and commands from a team leader, and more.
An international football program can help children to form friendships and bonds that they may have otherwise never experi enced.
Builds Leadership Skills
Not only does participation in a youth sports activity teach the best way to fol low commands and take direction, it also provides players with the opportuni ty to demonstrate leader ship themselves.
Football produces play ers who are much more well-rounded and adapt able, able to think quickly on their feet and to devel op a plan of action.
It should go without say ing that these are very de sirable traits for players to bring with them in their lives, aiding and assisting them not only throughout their time as soccer players (boys & girls), but also in school, work, and their re lationships.

“Sport for me is key as a cat alyst for change. As a trans formational coach, I work with people that are stuck in a particular area of their life. I find using sport in these sit uations helps break through that barrier. Of course, I am not suggesting that everyone starts competing at a profes sional level, but it is the phys ical movement that is key in moving forward in your lifeliterally.”
“That is why I started the Ticket to Happiness program, to help people who feel stuck in their life find some direc tion. And then give them a sys tem to move forward. I work with a small group of ladies in a luxury setting here in UAE at one of the coastal hotels. We spend a weekend away doing activities and introspective ex ploration to figure out exactly what the course participants want out of life and how to get it. How to understand them selves, and who they want to be in the world.”
“I have developed a system called PPS - the Personal Posi tioning System. I take partic ipants step by step through a process whereby they under stand who they are and how they interact with the world. This helps them to know why they act the way they do and what they need to change in order to achieve their “ticket to happiness”.

LIFE AS A TEAM
How did you get together as a sporting group?
“We started as cousins and our other friends joined us”
Tell us about your experiences at the Gov Games. What was the highlight?
Gov games were one of our dream challenges. We nev er thought it would happen though as it was only for gov ernment employees. Under the vision of Sheikh Hamdan, there was a community cate gory added that we were eligi ble to compete in.
I can honestly say that we were not ready to compete at that level but we made it through the qualifiers and ended up finishing 14th overall at the actual games so it was an in credible achievement for us. Now that we know what to
expect we will train hard and we will be ready for next year.
Tell us about your experience at the recent Al Salam 109km Cycle Race through Dubai Desert.
Cycling was a challenge for me because I was new to the sport. To be ready in only a few months for a race that far was really tough. We prepared and trained very hard for it. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. The wind was so strong in places we could not even see the track there was so much sand but we made it and I finished in the top 20 as an individual and came 4th in the race as a team which was a very proud achievement for all of us.
Do you feel that you are role models for other girls to join sports?
I can say yes we are, as we inspiring many girls to join different kinds of sports. Es pecially when we post our achievements on social me dia. It is a way to make people know more about how you can add sports into your life.
What would you say to people that have never done sports before or don’t feel that they are sporty people and believe they can’t do it?
You are missing out. It may be hard in the beginning, but the effort is worth it. Not having sport in your life means miss ing out on a lot of happiness, a feeling of freedom. Sport be comes a kind of meditation to recharge your energy for the rest of the day.
The support you get from your team, always there for you, shouting, wanting you to be your best. It is a special feeling, a special community. I hope that as many people as possible will join us.
For other Emirati girls that want to start doing more sports - what would be your advice? Just start and do it - you will love it.
It is a challenge at the begin ning to continue, but you will be proud of yourself in the end. And you will find it is a kind of addiction that you can’t stop do ing it for the rest of your life.
What are the biggest challenges you have faced so far in sports?
Injuries. I injured my leg through over-training and had to stop doing what I loved for 6 months. That was my hardest challenge, to stop doing what I love to do every day.
But it made me seek out other kinds of sports so in hindsight it was a positive thing.
So my suggestion is always to listen to your body and give the
right rest and recovery. I was crazy to ignore the pain - I thought I would be fine but it only got worse. Love your body as much as you love the sports.
Do you think the Al Ain com munity is ready to have more Emirati women sporting he roes?
Sure we are all from Al Ain so if we can do it then anyone can do it.
INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS

My 109km cycling at Al Salam champion And my 21km RAK marathon

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of sports?
My speaking career takes up the remainder of my time. In spiring others to achieve their goals.

To achieve anything in life you need determination and per severance. It is no different in sport and I have both of those qualities. Once my mind is made up there is nothing I cannot achieve.

I get up at 6.00 am and run be tween 5 and 10km before work. Afternoon training is either cy cling or a gym workout. What time is left I devote to family and friends.

Running, cycling and volleyball will always be high on my list.
I also love cross fit as it has many movements and challenges that never end and does not have a fixed routine.

The Story of Obesity is Complex
The worrying unknowns of obesity
Dr. Rita Nawar, Medical Director, WEMA HealthObesity knows no bor ders” were the words ut tered by Dr. Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Eu rope. Although referring to the rate of obesity that’s reaching ep idemic proportions in the Europe an region, no sentiment rings tru er than this, especially with the UAE ranking among the top 40 countries in the world for a high prevalence of obesity.
Obesity and the relationship be tween having a healthy weight and the body’s proper function ality have long been studied by scholars, scientists, and health care practitioners all over the world. It’s no secret that this chronic condition affects the quality and quantity of a person’s life, impacting everything from respiratory and reproductive function to brain activities such as memory and mood. Most in terestingly, the complexity of the disease means that the causal factors cannot simply be limited to an unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
I explain to my patients that obe sity is a chronic relapsing complex with multi-factorial intricacies. The disease of obesity arises as a result of an interaction between a genetic and epigenetic back ground with a person’s environ ment, stressors, and sociocultural
factors resulting in behavior of inadequate dietary intake leading to elevated weight. This has been widely documented. But often missed, and not considered, are metabolic health and hormonal influences. When it comes to weight management or weight loss, I have since discovered that success does not boil down to a lack of willpower, but instead, is a metabolic issue which requires a holistic approach. Metabolic health involves not only the food we eat but also our energy and stress levels, emotional health and sleeping patterns. All these aspects play an important role and need to be taken care of when a person is living with obesity and is looking to regain health.
Furthermore, fat tissue is not an inert depot. Its presence is impor tant as it supplies the body with energy, aids nutrient absorption, immune response, maintenance of body temperature and regu lating insulin sensitivity. However, its dysfunction, at any level, may have negative metabolic and car diovascular consequences such as decreased insulin sensitivity, hypertension, etc. Thus it is im portant to focus on maintaining healthy adipose tissue and aim at overall health improvement.
With all this in mind, and the cur rent approximate 35% obesity rate in the UAE, it’s time to look
into the holistic medical solutions that are needed to combat this epidemic effectively and for the long term. The crux of the issue is that obesity can affect multi ple parts of a person’s body and health. To combat such a complex disease, multidimensional solu tions such as the WEMA Health program, which I helped co-de velop with some of the top med ical experts in Europe, must be used in order to change people’s lives and their health. At the core of WEMA Health is a virtual-first, medicated, end-to-end obesity program that helps members lose up to 20% of their body weight, connecting them with endocrine specialists through its innovative, state-of-the-art app, with a focus on diet, exercise and psycho-so cial support.
With metabolic health playing a vital role in a person’s weight loss success, the program also makes available to users the modern and clinically documented weight loss medicine, GLP-1, which is pre scribed in tandem with profes sional and personalized cognitive behavioral coaching, empowering members to make lasting lifestyle changes.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
“changed my life” says stroke victim
months ago Keren Tra belsi was rushed to the hospi tal. The 45-year-old mother of two had suffered an ischemic stroke that had paralysed the left side of her body. After a three-hour oper ation, doctors gave their verdict. “The prognosis was not good,” said Trabelsi.
Thirteen
Facing Trabelsi were a series of po tential obstacles: physical dysfunc tion, loss of voluntary motor skills or paralysis, speech difficulties, and cognitive dysfunction such as memory loss, lack of attention or a decline in information processing speed.
But, thanks to a friendship with one of the world’s leading experts in hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), Trabelsi found a treatment program that had the potential to put her on a path to recovery.
Professor Shai Efrati is the founder and director of the Sagol Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Research at Shamir Medical Center in Israel and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board at Aviv Clinics in Dubai.
HBOT sees patients breathe pure ox
ygen in chambers over the course of numerous treatment sessions in an effort to rejuvenate nonfunctional neurons and tissues. This hyperox ygenation has shown the ability to generate new synaptic connections and new blood vessels that can im prove mitochondrial function and cerebral metabolism, reduce inflam mation, regenerate axonal white matter, stimulate axonal growth, and promote blood-brain barrier in tegrity.
Clinical studies on patients suffering from stroke, diabetic wounds, and post-traumatic brain injury have demonstrated that a unique proto col of a repeated HBOT sessions can increase proliferation and circulat ing stem cells in correlation with the clinical improvements. Several stud ies performed at the Sagol Center focused on the ability of Aviv’s HBOT protocols to restore brain function in post-stroke patients in the chronic stage of recovery, as well as in trau matic brain injury patients.
In the UAE, stroke is the second leading cause of disability after road accidents and annually anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 people in the country suffer from strokes. That
equates to one person in the UAE having a stroke every hour with up to 50% of stroke survivors suffering from some form of motor disfunc tion or brain impairment.
Under the supervision of Efrati and his team at Aviv, Trabelsi be gan HBOT and saw rapid results. “My physiotherapist couldn’t be lieve how fast I was improving,” she smiles. “It changed my life.”
Efrati explains, “Cases like Keren Trabelsi show how HBOT has the potential to dramatically alter the course of recovery for stroke vic tims. Through this treatment, Ker en has made significant progress in both her brain performance as well as her physical capabilities, resulting in increased independence and a tremendous impact on her personal confidence.”
ADSC Active Hub attracts

The initiative, which provides public access to sports facili ties in 20 public schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi after official school hours has seen heavy footfall resulting in en hancement to the level of com munity members practicing

47.3% of the total participants were aged 19 years and over, 20.8% were between 6 and 9 years, 18.3% were 10-13 years, and 13.6% between 14 and 18 years. UAE nationals were the highest number of participants followed by Egyptian, Syrian, Jordanian, Yemeni, Palestinian, Sudanese, Indian, Moroccan
and Omani nationals. Al Jahili School in Al Ain has attracted the largest number partici pants from the launch of the initiative to date.
Commenting on this mile stone, Talal Al Hashemi, Ex ecutive Director of Sports Development Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “The great footfall that Active Hub has witnessed empha sizes the importance of this initiative in encouraging indi viduals to practice sports, thus helping to build a healthy and active society and enhancing
people’s quality of life in Abu Dhabi through various events and activities.”
Al Hashemi added, “We aim to provide a comprehensive sports environment that con tributes to raising awareness of the importance of practicing sports while providing easy ac cess to diverse activities that appeal to all age groups, as well as providing the services of specialized experts to im prove the skills of participants and ensure that the correct exercises and practices are fol lowed in all sports provided
under the initiative.”
Active Hub reflects the keen ness of the Abu Dhabi gov ernment to encourage the participation of individuals in group activities that con tribute to building an inclu sive community through sports.
The initiative also strength ens the bonds between
community members as indi viduals and their families get to spend quality time with their friends and neighbours, which is a true reflection of Abu Dhabi’s plans and vision to establish a positive culture for sports and build a cohe sive society.

ASICS has launched the new GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 sneaker. Emitting just 1.95kg CO2e across its life cycle, significantly lighter than the lowest CO2e sneakers cur rently available on the market, it represents a significant leap forward by ASICS in its commit ment to achieve net-zero emis sions by 2050.
The GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 is the result of over 10 years of research and development by ASICS, beginning when ASICS first partnered with the Massa chusetts Institute of Technolo gy (MIT) back in 2010 to find a better way to accurately meas ure the CO2e impact across the entire life cycle of a product.
In continuing to finetune its research and reapply the find ings, ASICS has been able to make hundreds of incremental gains across the four key stages of the product life cycle (Mate rials & Manufacturing, Trans portation, Use and End-of-life), identifying all the small differ ences that combine to make a big impact. The result is the GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 - achiev ing new levels of sustainabil ity without compromising on quality.
Among the sneaker’s series of innovations is a new carbon negative foam, which features as part of its midsole and sock liner. Made from a fusion of bio-based polymers3 derived partly from sugarcane, these combine to deliver high-level comfort and quality in a sus tainable way.
Other key design details in the
shoe include the use of recy cled and solution dyed polyes ter in the main upper material and the sockliner mesh, re flecting ASICS’ target of sourc ing 100% of its polyester from recycled sources by 2030. The shoe features a new structure utilizing tape that enables less material usage, and 100% re newable energy used through out the manufacturing phase.
The result of all these inno vations and changes coming together is the GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95. The ground-breaking new sneaker is a milestone in ASICS’ long-term ambition of achieving net-zero emissions as a business by 2050, helping conserve the ability of future generations to continue expe riencing the uplifting power of sport on the mind.
Minako Yoshikawa, Senior Gen eral Manager, ASICS Sustain ability Division said: “At ASICS we have long been committed to exploring and testing more sustainable methods through our value chain to reduce our impact on the planet. While the GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 is a hugely significant milestone on this journey, this is only the beginning. Our ambition now is to continue applying the learn ings and build on the blueprint of this shoe in a way that can be rolled out on an even bigger scale in the future.
Yasuhito Hirota, ASICS CEO said: “ASICS has long believed in the powerful intrinsic link between sport and the mind. That’s why we’re so commit ted to doing our part to ensure the long-term viability of our
planet. That way we can en sure that future generations can continue to experience the uplifting impact of sport on the mind. To achieve a sound mind in a sound body, you need a sound earth to move on, after all. The road ahead maybe long but the GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 is our latest statement of in tent on this journey. We hope it can help inspire real positive change in the sports industry on the way to achieving net-ze ro emissions by 2050.”
The GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 sneaker will be widely availa ble to buy instore and online at asics.com from AW 2023.

PAUL RETURNS AS TEAM
ABU DHABI HEAD COACH
Paul Farbrace will return as Team Abu Dhabi head coach for this year’s Abu Dhabi T10, which takes place from 22 November to 4 December at Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub.
Farbrace spent five years in the England men’s setup before joining Warwickshire as their head of sport and led Team Abu Dhabi to a third-place finish in the 2021 edition.
He will now be back in the home franchise dugout at the Zayed Cricket Stadium for season six of the Abu Dhabi T10, as will former England international Sarah Taylor.
Taylor moved the needle for female coach es in the men’s professional game when she joined the Team Abu Dhabi coaching staff last year and she will serve as Far brace’s assistant.
Ottis Gibson, who has previously worked with the likes of West Indies, England, Bangladesh and South Africa, will head up the bowling department, while former Zimbabwe international Grant Flower has signed on as batting coach.
“I thought it was a brilliant tournament,” said Farbrace of his Abu Dhabi T10 debut last term. “I was looking forward to it and it proved to be a fantastic tournament. You get some of the best players in the
world, some of the best coaches, and it makes for a great combination.
“Sarah did a brilliant job last year and I thought her passion and her energy around the team was outstanding. I’m looking forward to seeing her expand on what she did last year, and I think she’ll bring even more innovation and have an even greater impact on the team this year.
“We’ve also got in Ottis and Grant, who have worked at the very top of the game, have huge amounts of experience and they also have an infectious passion for the sport. I think between all of us as a coaching group, we’ve managed to put to gether a world-class setup that every play er can tap into.”
Team Abu Dhabi general manager Shane Anderson added: “I’m thrilled to have Paul back with us again for the upcoming tournament. We share a similar philoso phy on the way the T10 format should be approached, and the type of player and personality required to go all the way. It’s an exciting start to the new campaign and I’m confident we have the right people on board to ensure we’re in the mix at the business end of the tournament.”
Farbrace’s side won seven out of 10 matches in the league stage of the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10, but defeats in both the
second qualifier, and eliminator, saw them miss out on a place in the final.
Team Abu Dhabi eventually se cured third-place and, in a bid to go all the way this time around, have already strengthened their squad by signing the hard-hit ting duo of Australia’s Chris Lynn and West Indian Fabian Allen.
England internationals Phil Salt and Jamie Overton have been retained, as has Afghanistan ace Naveen-ul-Haq.
Team Abu Dhabi’s think tank will complete the squad at the Official Player Draft on Monday 26 September and Farbrace al ready has his sights on leading the tournament’s host franchise to their first title.
“I’m desperate to win it,” said Farbrace. “I want to win, I love winning, I hate losing. And I think we’ve got a group of peo ple that share that sentiment.”
He added: “Chris Lynn is a super star in terms of the shorter form of the game. I’m really excited by him, and he’s a destroyer of bowlers. He will be a real leader for us. He’s someone that knows his game, is highly experienced and clear in how he wants to play the game. All I’ll be saying to him is: ‘Mate, go and enter tain us. Show us how you play this game!’
“I’m also really pleased that we’ve managed to retain Phil Salt, Jamie Overton and Naveenul-Haq, because they’re all high quality, fantastic cricketers. They’ve got a winning mentality and expectation to win is some thing we’ll be talking about from day one, with all our players. If you’re going to win tourna ments like this, you need that high level of expectation, so I’m really excited by it.”
Full Team Abu Dhabi coach ing staff: Paul Farbrace (head coach), Sarah Taylor (assistant coach), Ottis Gibson (bowling coach), Grant Flower (batting coach), Oscar Nauhaus (skills coach), Hassan Cheema (ana lyst), Ajantha Wattagama (phys io)
