ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WEDDING SIGNAGE

by Adrienne Garcia photography by Beatbox Portraits

Wedding signage—what does that mean exactly? It goes way beyond just the beautiful invitation suite you’ve designed and personalized. In fact, it entails everything from your welcome sign to programs to cocktail menus and seating charts. Plus, it acts as a guide for your wedding guests. There are so many facets and so many options that come with it, that it can be a bit overwhelming.

If you’re wondering where to start, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with this easy guide to signage basics thanks to the expertise of Ragan Mladenovic, Owner and Calligrapher of Ragan Hope Calligraphy.

Use this list as your foundation, but by no means do you have to stop here. Flex your creative muscles! Signs are “another way to express you and your fiancé’s personality,” says Mladenovic. Think about incorporating a bar sign with specialty cocktail names. Love to travel? “Use places you’ve visited as table names and display it on a seating chart.” You can even display a large-scale sign with a favorite verse or quote as a photo op for your guests. The sky is the limit!

While having so much creative freedom could seem stressful, it also plays to your advantage. There are display styles for every budget, and your stationer or calligrapher can lead you to the right choices. In need of a little inspiration to get started? We’ve got plenty right this way.

The list begins here

5 SignS every wedding needS

According to Mladenovic

1. .Welcome Sign

Let your guests know they’ve made it to the right place! “You’ve been to the venue, your guests haven’t! Put them at ease and let them know they found the right spot.” It’s the first greeting they’ll see, so invite them into your wedding with something personal.

2. Directional Signage

We love a venue that caters to both the ceremony and reception, but you have to let your guests know which way to go first. Having signage that guides them to the ceremony takes out the guesswork and give them time to sign the guestbook.

3. Cards and Gifts Sign

“This sign is often forgotten, but it’s necessary,” states Mladenovic. Some of your attendees might bring along gifts, and while they could find someone to ask, a small sign lets them know instantly where to place them.

4. Order of Events

Mladenovic notes a traditional program makes a wonderful keepsake, or you might opt for something oversized. Show your unique style and vision with your order of events displayed on a vintage mirror, acrylic, or even a chalk board. Whichever you choose, it lets your guests know when to hit the dance floor or take a break for cake.

5 . Hashtag Sign

You’ll have the professional photos, of course, but you don’t want to miss the pictures your friends and family will snap too. Leave hashtag signs around at cocktail hour so your guests know what to tag on social media. It’s an extra fun way to reminisce about the night when you wake up the next morning.
