BOOK REVIEW ALWAYS OVERBOOKED

You got something to say, say it. Got an opinion? The world is waiting. It doesn’t do any good to mutter, sputter or whine when something’s bothering you. As in the new book, “Low-Hanging Fruit” by Randy Rainbow, take it to the complaint department.

Randy Rainbow has a lot to say, and he’s not afraid to say it.

For starters, he’s “resigning from trying to fix you, effective immediately.” Any boneheaded thing you want to do now, whatever. Nothing is his responsibility anymore. He has other issues to worry about.

“The truth is,” he says, “I have a lot of complaints about a lot of things.”

There are right ways of doing things, he says, and there are wrong ways, and we just all really need to know the difference –especially if you’re a “Karen.” Now, he’s compassionate, if you were born with that name, but not too much.

“I’m a flamboyant homosexual who’s lived my entire life with the name Randy Rainbow, so you’ll get little sympathy from me in this department.”

Other than that, you may wonder what Rainbow’s (ahem) “position” is: he’s actually thinking about running for President as a member of “a Rainbow coalition...” He doesn’t have much experience but, he says, if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past few years, that doesn’t matter at all. He stands on a green platform, but he can’t ban fluorocarbons because, you know, the hair thing and all.

Rainbow misses his twenties, old-school dating sites, hooking up., and his former attention span. He waxes nostalgic about the places he’s lived, including an apartment overlooking a “fruit market.” He wonders why teenagers are suddenly “successful lifestyle gurus.” He hates when “stars begin losing their luster” and he wishes again for actors like Hayworth and Garbo.

But, he says, “Diva-complaints aside... I really do thank God for all the opportunities I’m given.”

So, the Elephant in the Room right now might be one you’ll (never?) vote for, but you know that author Randy Rainbow will reliably skewer that political animal online, hilariously. The fun-poking continues in the most deliciously snarky way in “Low-Hanging Fruit.”

And yet, that’s not the only subject Rainbow tackles. Readers who love catching his posts and videos are treated here to a random string of observations, opinions, and rants-not-rants, with the signature sassy style they’ve come to expect. What you’ll read can

be spit-out-your-wine funny sometimes, and other times it touches a nerve with nods toward culture, new and old, that’ll make you nod with recognition. Nothing in Rainbow’s path goes without sharpedged comment, which is exactly what you want from his books. Unexpectedly, this one also includes a soft word or two and a few slight confessions that are gentle and that might even make you say, “Awwwwww.”

If you’re ready for something snide and cynical that’ll make you laugh, something that you’ll want to read aloud to a companion, “Low-Hanging Fruit” is what you need. Look for this book now and you’ll have no complaints.

“Low-Hanging Fruit: Sparkling Whines, Champagne Problems, and Pressing Issues from My Gay Agenda” by Randy Rainbow c.2024, St. Martin’s Press / $28.00 / 224 pages

Whine, whine, whine.

BOOK REVIEW

ALWAYS OVERBOOKED

the season.

The season to bundle up when going outside. To anticipate a holiday tune or two, to admire lights on your evening walk or to decorate your own windows. ‘Tis the season to start looking for recipes to wow your guests this year, so why not check out these great cookbooks...

Just gazing at the cover of “Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By” by Al Roker with Courtney Roker Laga (Legacy Lit, $35) is going to make you hungry. Just paging through it is going to make you confident because what’s in here are easy-to-make dishes that your family will want again. Check out the sandwich section for those leftovers.

You don’t have to be from Wisconsin to want “Extra! Extra! Eat All About It! by Jane Conway and Randi Julia Ramsden (Wisconsin Historical Society Press, $30). What you will need, though, is an adventurous spirit to try the old-time suggestions and a willingness to enjoy the articles that go with them. Tasty recipes plus tasty history equals a yummy book for the person who likes to read cookbooks and then actually use them.

Of course, you want to bring the kids into the kitchen so they can host you someday, right? So have “Kids Cook Everything” by Mark Bittman (HarperCollins Harvest, $35), a nice hefty book that’s meant for the budding cook in two nice ways: this cookbook is easy for the 10-and-up reader to follow, and the recipes in here are both kid favorites and kid-enticing. The sidebars and illustrations just make it better. Be aware that you’ll want to be around to lend a hand, but then... how could you not, with this fun book?

For littler kids who need a little-kid-friendly first cookbook, find “Look and Cook Breakfast” by Valorie Fisher (Astra Young Readers, $19.99). Step-by-step pictures make this book perfect for the smallest kitchen helper, ages five to eight.

So, your shelves are full of cookbooks, thank you very much, but you still want to read something new about food? Then look for “Cold Kitchen: A Year of Culinary Journeys” by Caroline Eden

(Bloomsbury, $27.99) and take a trip through Eastern Europe and Central Asia with Eden, a Scottish writer who’s happy to have you along. You won’t find recipes in this book, but you’ll find plenty of inspiration.

Likewise, there are no recipes inside “Wild Chocolate: Across the Americas in Sarch of Cacao’s Soul” by Rowan Jacobsen (Bloomsbury, $28.99) but chocolate. Chocolate in its most raw form, in its most hard-to-reach form, and how its fervent fans are working to ensure that the wild cacao doesn’t disappear. It’s a tale of adventure, perfect for reading between meals and with a big bar of, well, you know...

And if these great cookbooks aren’t enough for your hosting pleasure or your kitchen counter, then head to your favorite bookstore or library and ask to see the cookbook section. Better yet, ask if your favorite bookseller or librarian has some favorite dishes and where they got them. Because ‘tis the season for (r)eating.

FEATURE DRAG ICON IS SPREADING LIGHT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Logan Hardcore was a celebrated drag performer, renowned for her biting humor, outrageous performances and her close relationship with Bianca Del Rio. In September 2022, the performer shocked fans on Instagram, announcing that she was hanging up her heels to pursue other endeavors.

This month, the artist - who now goes by the name Logan Joseph and uses he/him pronouns - is finally ready to reveal his bright new plans! He is creating a different kind of light—one that fills homes with warmth and memories through unique, hand-crafted candles. And much like Joseph’s former drag performances, each candle tells its own unique story.

The idea for Radiant Light Candle Co. came to Joseph during a transformative period in his life. “Radiant Light came about two years after I got sober,” he explains. “I was beginning to pull myself out of nightlife and preparing to have my daughter. I needed a slower pace that allowed me to be creative. Part of my love for drag was knowing I made an impact on people, and I needed to figure out a way to do that with a physical product.” With a love for candles and frustration over the lack of affordable, aesthetically pleasing options, Joseph saw an opportunity. “One night, I couldn’t sleep, and the next day, I began researching what would become Radiant Light.”

LOGAN JOSEPH AND HUSBAND TODD

As the fall and winter seasons approach, Joseph feels it’s the perfect time to spotlight his candles. “Everyone loves a candle during the colder months,” he says. “It’s a great time to play with scent. There’s a lot to work with, and people already have favorite fragrances associated with the holidays.” His best-selling holiday candle, “Festive,” takes a traditional Christmas tree scent and

elevates it with hints of berries, setting Radiant Light apart from mass-market options. “I never want to have a scent you can just get in a store. I always want it to be unique.”

“For fall, I enjoy using more nature-focused notes, playing with the balance of masculine and feminine scents,” he explains. One of his notable candles is called ‘F*ck It, I’m Buying a Cabin.’ “It’s a Christmas cabin in candle form,” Logan Joseph explains. “Together, the name and scent create a full experience.”

Radiant Light’s candles, with their distinctive scents and designs, aren’t just products—they’re conversation starters and thoughtful gifts that stand out.

One of Joseph’s first candles, “Mary,” is a deeply personal tribute to his late mother. “It’s white sage and lavender—her favorite scent. Creating that candle was my way of honoring her.” Another candle, “Cowboy,” was designed with his father during his battle with cancer. “He was a real-life cowboy, and we created the scent together. The crackling wood wick reminds me of the fires he would sit by on ranches.”

LOGAN JOSEPH WITH HUSBAND TODD AND DAUGHTER CHLOE

FEATURE

The holidays are especially meaningful for Joseph, who fondly remembers his father’s love for Christmas. He aims to create that same magic for his daughter Chloé.

“Nothing prepares you for becoming a parent,” Logan Joseph reflects. “It’s hard managing everything—I’m a one-man show. In addition to candle making, I work full-time as an Accounts Payable Specialist, and I’m a stay-at-home dad. But my daughter, Chloé, comes first.”

Though Joseph’s drag career has taken a backseat, he has considered incorporating candles into a drag show one day down the line. He envisions it like how drag personality Dixie Longate sells Tupperware during her performances. He’s taking his time, though, for now concentrating on creating candles for popular NYC gay pubs Hardware and Pieces.

As Radiant Light Candle Co. looks toward the future, Joseph is hopeful for continued growth. “I want to reach more people, partner with more LGBTQIA+ and sober communities, and continue spreading light—both literally and figuratively,” he says.

NYE HIGHLIGHTS DAP HEALTH UPDATE

5 STEPS ON THE PATH TO ZERO NEW INFECTIONS

On World AIDS Day 2024, DAP Health reaffirms its commitment to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. We have all the tools we need.

As we near the fifth decade of battling HIV/AIDS, we at DAP Health know that eliminating new infections is achievable, but that it will demand a multifaceted approach combining continuing education about options, efforts to dismantle stigma, and the ensuring of equity and access.

To us, it has always been about everyone knowing their status. That’s why every new patient who comes through DAP Health’s doors is tested for HIV — and why our three sexual wellness clinics (in Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Indio) offer free HIV testing by appointment, or via a self-test discreetly mailed to a patient’s home.

“In honor of World AIDS Day 2024, DAP Health is commencing an enhanced clinical workflow to support its clinicians in screening all of their patients for HIV,” says Director of Specialty Programs Dr. Jason Halperin. “Our commitment is to notify a patient within 24 hours of their positive test result. A member of our incredible team of Early Intervention Services (EIS) patient navigators then enrolls that patient in our Rapid StART program, which includes an initial specialist visit alongside starting immediately on antiretroviral treatment.”

This standard also applies to those who may have fallen out of HIV/AIDS treatment. Those who test negative and are deemed at risk are informed about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent against the virus, which can be accessed through a member of our PrEP navigation team.

Deeply committed to the eradication of the virus, all of us at DAP Health are firm believers in the following five steps that comprise the path toward zero new HIV infections.

1. Expand Comprehensive Sex Education

Knowledge is one of the most potent weapons in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Unfortunately, misconceptions about HIV transmission and prevention persist, particularly in communities with limited access to sexual health education. Comprehensive sexual education that includes information on HIV transmission, safer sex practices, and preventive measures like PrEP and PEP can empower people to make safer choices. This education should start early, ensuring young people understand the realities of HIV and the resources available to protect themselves. Remember, HIV does not discriminate.

Sexual health education should also address issues like substance use, mental health, and healthy relationships to tackle

the broader risk factors associated with HIV. Studies have shown that when individuals understand their options, they’re more likely to engage in preventive behaviors, reducing their risk of infection.

2. Break Down Stigma, Eradicate Shame, and Address Social Inequality

Stigma and discrimination against those affected by HIV remain major obstacles in the fight to end the epidemic. Stigma drives fear and isolation, discouraging people from seeking testing, discussing prevention, or accessing treatment. This is particularly harmful for populations most affected by HIV, including the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, and marginalized groups who already face systemic barriers in accessing health care.

Ending stigma requires a cultural shift supported by public awareness campaigns, inclusive policies, and protections against discrimination. This can be achieved through media representation, educational efforts, and leadership from governments and communities. By fostering an environment of understanding and empathy, we can dismantle the fear that prevents people from taking steps toward prevention and treatment.

There should be no shame in taking care of oneself, including seeking ways to ward off HIV.

3. Provide Routine and Accessible HIV Testing

Regular HIV testing facilitates early detection and treatment, ultimately reducing transmission. People who know their HIV status are empowered to protect both their health and the health of others, especially if they’re aware of effective treatment options. However, HIV testing remains underutilized due to stigma, shame, fear, and logistical challenges in accessing health care.

Integrating routine HIV testing into standard health care practices, including annual checkups and community health screenings — two areas DAP Health actively participates in — can normalize testing and make it more accessible. Additionally, rapid and self-testing options allow individuals to learn their status privately, increasing the likelihood that they’ll get tested. Health care providers, including primary care physicians, must promote a nonjudgmental environment where testing is seen as a routine part of self-care. At DAP Health, we want you to be tested for HIV, and pride ourselves on providing a shame- and stigma-free environment at every one of our 25 locations.

4. Make PrEP and PEP Available to All Who Want It

One of the most effective tools in preventing HIV infection is PrEP. Taken daily orally (as a single pill), or bimonthly by injection in a clinical setting, PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of infection by up to 99%.

PEP — a 28-day course of antiretroviral medications (prescribed for 30 days due to insurance requirements) taken within 72 hours after a possible HIV exposure — also offers critical preventive support. Together, PrEP and PEP can stop new infections if made accessible and well-known in all communities.

However, expanding PrEP and PEP’s reach requires significant work. Currently, barriers such as cost, limited health care access, and misinformation prevent many from using these prevention tools. While some insurance plans cover PrEP, its cost and accessibility vary, especially in low-income and underserved areas. To address these disparities, health agencies must invest in making PrEP free or lowcost in all high-risk communities, and health care providers should proactively educate patients about it.

5. Prioritize Treatment as Prevention (TasP)

For people living with HIV, antiretroviral therapy (ART) is a lifesaving treatment that also plays a key role in prevention. ART reduces the amount of HIV in the blood to undetectable levels, making the virus untransmittable (a concept known as “undetectable = untransmittable,” or U=U). Treatment as prevention (TasP) is a powerful tool because it both improves the quality of life for those with HIV and prevents the virus’ spread to others.

To make TasP effective, it’s essential that all people living with HIV have uninterrupted access to ART, along with ongoing medical support. This goal necessitates universal health care policies and assistance programs that provide ART for free or at an affordable rate.

Additionally, educational campaigns around U=U can empower people living with HIV to seek treatment without the fear of stigma, as they can now live healthy, long lives without posing a risk to partners.

Until there’s a cure, all of us at DAP Health will soldier on in our efforts to lead the way as we continue to follow the five steps on the path to zero new HIV infections.

Please visit daphealth.org if:

• You need HIV/AIDS care and are not yet a DAP Health patient.

• You would like to access PrEP or PEP.

• You need free HIV testing — whether that be in person at one of our sexual wellness clinics, or by having a test discreetly mailed to your home.

NYE HIGHLIGHTS Q&A FLEX FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Once again, Mike Ruiz is combining his love for human and animal beauty and unleashes his 2025 Mutts and Muscles Calendar , that’s as compassionate as it is captivating. Mutts and Muscles features an array of top fitness icons alongside 14 irresistibly adorable rescue dogs, presenting images that are both heartwarming and inspiring. Gracing the cover of this year’s calendar is fitness legend Sergi Constance, known for his chiseled physique, social media influence, and his role as Zeus in Zack Snyder’s Justice League films.

Ruiz’s vision extends beyond the art of photography. Mutts and Muscles is a philanthropic project that supports animal rescues. With a staggering number of dogs being abandoned in 2024, the need has never been more urgent. This year’s proceeds benefit Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, a renowned organization dedicated to saving and rehoming pets. Mike Ruiz explains more from his home in NYC.

What message are you hoping to amplify through this year’s calendar?

Mike Ruiz: I wish people would fully comprehend that for every dog that a breeder brings into the world, one dog dies in a shelter. If people stopped supporting indiscriminate breeding and saved a life in need instead, the endless suffering would end. I urge anyone considering buying a dog from a breeder or pet store to take a stroll through a shelter on euthanasia day.

Why did you choose Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue as this year’s beneficiary?

Mike Ruiz: Louie’s Legacy was the very first rescue that the calendar benefitted back in 2014. Having spread the love to other rescues over the years, I’ve come back to Louie’s Legacy because of their integrity, their compassion and their transparency as a 501c3.

Louie’s Legacy has a Platinum rating (the highest rating) on Guidestar, a platform that rates charities based on financial transparency and a myriad of other criteria that demonstrate integrity.

What’s the creative process behind pairing fitness icons with rescue animals for each shot?

Mike Ruiz: It really all boils down to who the dogs gravitate to. My main concern is always the welfare of the dogs. They have all been through so much stress and uncertainty, the last thing that I’d ever want to do is cause any additional stress on them.

How did you select Sergi Constance as the cover model?

Mike Ruiz: Sergi is a legend in the fitness world and has millions of social media followers. Also, he happens to a wildly compassionate man. After our shoot, he insisted that we visit a local shelter to photograph dogs in need so that we could network them and get them adopted.

He is exactly the type of person that I seek out to participate in this project.

In today’s digital age, do people still buy calendars?

Mike Ruiz: The calendar is always well received, and this year is no exception. They are selling like hot cakes! The calendar is a heartwarming message wrapped in a beautiful package.

Mutts and Muscles is the perfect holiday gift!

Mike Ruiz: Not only is the calendar an explosion of eye candy and an overload of cuteness but it actually saves lives. It’s a wonderful way to give a gift that keeps on giving for 14 months and it will make you feel like you’re making a difference. I can’t think of a better gift to give to others…and to yourself!

DEDOS DE NOVIA (BRIDE’S COOKIES)

Prep time: 2 hours; Cook time: 13 minutes; Yield: 70 cookies

Ingredients

2 Eggland’s Best eggs, large. Yolks only

1 stick unsalted butter, 1/2 cup, at room temperature

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1 cup powdered sugar, plus more for covering the cookies

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

* In a stand-mixer bowl fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter, vegetable shortening and sugar at medium-low speed until soft and creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Add the Eggland’s Best egg yolks and vanilla extract. Continue mixing until incorporated. Reduce speed to low and add flour, baking powder and salt. Continue to mix until all ingredients are incorporated. Scrape mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap and refrigerate for two hours or up to a couple of days.

* When ready to bake, set oven racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees. Cover two baking sheets with parchment paper.

* Cut the dough into two pieces, leaving one in the refrigerator. Gently flatten dough and place it between two sheets of parchment, wax paper or plastic wrap. Using a rolling pin, roll to about 1/2inch thickness. Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the dough into 1/2-inch by 2-inch rectangles. Then, use a dinner knife or back side of a fork or spoon to make 2 shallow lines down the length of the cookie.

* Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 12 to 13 minutes or until lightly golden on sides and bottoms. Remove from the oven.

* When cool enough to handle, gently dip cookies in a bowl containing powdered sugar and cover entirely. Eat or keep covered in a container with a lid until ready to eat.

PERSPECTIVE WHAT’S NEXT ?

We are quickly approaching the end of another year and for 99% of you who may be reading this it is with great trepidation and for many fear. What a horrible way to begin a new year. For those of you who follow astrology, November 19 was the beginning of the age of Aquarius where Pluto enters Aquarius for the first time in 240 years. It is about enlightenment where we the people universally we begin to work as one. It is deconstructing society as it exists. Notice that this is before January 20, 2025, giving us time to pull ourselves together and effect positive change.

Now you might think this naïve on my part but if we look at the near future in fear and allow it to rule our everyday lives and thoughts, we will come to regret it. I believe it is time for us to come together.

I wrote a post on Gay Men of Palm Springs on Facebook, a few weeks ago, where I suggested that we look forward to June when World Pride will be held in Washington, D.C. As usual, I believe that there are no accidents and feel that it gives us 7 months to assess the safely of participating in this event but also planning how to make

use of this opportunity to peacefully march on Washington much like you did first back in 1979, 1987 and 1993. I did not take part in any of those marches because I was ignorant and unaware of how to show my support.

We are in a holding pattern right now waiting to see what is going to happen and what is possible. We need to be present, thoughtful, kind, careful and cautious. But we need a plan to keep the momentum going from the advances you made after Stonewall 55 years ago. My question is what have we been doing since then?

Are we as a culture making movement? I know many changes have taken place in the trans world but what about in the Gay community itself? It appears that we are being blended into one large group and personally this bothers me.

The term, “Be Yourself,” should apply to every living person on this earth. Coming Out, also another term for everyone. But you have been doing this for decades and you have brought so much to our world that I still believe is being overlooked, disregarded, and disrespected by the masses. Gay men and women have provided

the rest of the world with gifts that are all encompassing. You have made our world a better place and yet you are still seeming like a threat to so many. When is it ever going to stop?

In my article and perhaps once on this platform, I suggested choosing a random day in the the upcoming year, where no gay person went to work for 24 hours. Can you imagine the chaos in the entertainment industry including TV, radio; newspaper; cable; social media platforms; restaurants; fashion; politics; health; retail; banks; stock markets; real estate; government? Just to name a few. Talk about making a statement!

Are they going to fire everyone who did not go to work? I think not, as the world would come to a screeching halt! However, if this is not an option than I would love to know what is? We can not just give up, hide our heads in the sand or hostilely revolt. So, what do you think we should do?

I would never want to encourage anyone or any group to do something unsafe but enough is enough. We need to move on from this scrutiny and focus on the same issues we have been trying to eradicate for decades like homelessness, hunger, sexual mutilation, misogyny, sexual abuse, child abuse and leave sexual preference out of it. This is almost 2025 and we are facing the same inequalities that existed 100 years ago! We are not making headway! We are

repeating history, and we seem to learn nothing from the past. I have immersed myself in reading about Women in the Resistance during both World Wars. Why you might ask, I have no idea but after finishing book one, I have gone on to read over 70 of them. Some are fiction based on historical events, and others nonfiction based on the lives of these unsung heroes.

It is frightening to see the comparisons of these same years in the 1920’s building up to WWII and I know I am not the only one seeing this. I am not a politician, nor do I aspire to be one, but I am vey concerned and have been given this amazing opportunity to bring my thoughts to you hoping that it will stimulate you to come up with definitive plans to move forward and not disappear underground once again.

Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you and know that I am not going to stop trying to effect change.

I wish you Peace and Happiness along with excellent Health in this New Year.

XOXO, Jill, your hopeful and somewhat anxious, DQ.

CIRCUIT DREAMLAND LIGHTS UP MIAMI

THIS NEW YEAR’S EVE

ADINAYEV MEDIA
ADINAYEV MEDIA

The countdown to 2025 just got a lot more exciting as Dreamland, North America’s largest LGBTQ+ New Year’s music festival, returns to Miami for a week-long celebration from December 27 through January 1. Dubbed the “Queer Coachella” by Out magazine, this event promises an atmosphere of unity, inclusion, and celebration with immersive experiences and six vibrant parties over five days, featuring world-class performances by Purple Disco Machine, Dombresky, Anne Louise, Coco & Breezy, Fleetmac Wood, Heidi Lawden, and Sagi Kariv.

The festival will take over some of Miami’s most iconic venues including ZeyZey’s, M2 Nightclub (formerly Mansion), and Kygo’s Palm Tree Club, a stunning waterfront venue in Miami’s North Bay Village with breathtaking sunset views that can only be accessed by luxury boat! Dreamland is also introducing Teleport City, a groundbreaking 5-D immersive experience described as a “multi-sensory playground.” Attendees will step into a realm that engages all the senses, offering a surreal escape that blurs the lines between dreams and reality. This new addition to the festival promises to captivate and transport guests, setting a new standard for interactive entertainment.

For Jake Resnicow, the festival’s founder and producer, Dreamland is more than just a party. In a time of political challenges for the LGBTQ+ community, Resnicow sees events like Dreamland as a vital space for empowerment and solidarity. “Dreamland serves as both a celebration and a sanctuary for the queer community, providing a space where music, culture, and solidarity can thrive, regardless of external pressures,” he explains. By creating an environment where

attendees can express themselves freely and proudly, Resnicow hopes to foster a sense of strength and visibility that transcends adversity.

Dreamland’s return to Miami adds a special layer of magic to the event. The city’s vibrant culture, diverse community, and coastal energy create an ideal backdrop for this celebration. Miami’s warm sun and open skies set the stage for unforgettable moments, from the pulse of music to the glow of fireworks lighting up the night. Dreamland offers attendees the chance to create lasting memories in a space where love and inclusion take center stage.

It will also offer a preview of sorts. Resnicow’s vision for uniting the LGBTQ+ community will expand beyond Dreamland in 2025 when he brings WorldPride to Washington, D.C. His event in the nation’s capital will be an opportunity to showcase LGBTQ+ resilience and pride on a historic stage, emphasizing the power of the community to inspire progress and visibility on a global scale.

Tickets for Dreamland New Year’s Festival are available now at Dreamlandnye.com. Whether it’s the world-class performances, the immersive experiences, or the camaraderie of like-minded individuals, this year’s Dreamland promises to be a celebration that goes far beyond the ordinary. With its blend of music, art, and unity, it stands as a beacon of resilience, joy, and hope as the LGBTQ+ community welcomes in 2025 with reluctant arms.

JADE has already racked up over 55 million streams as a solo artist, and now the pop superstar releases her new single ‘Fantasy’.’ Fantasy’ is sleek and euphoric disco-tinged electro pop track written by JADE with Mike Sabath and Pablo Bowman (the team behind her debut smash hit single ‘Angel Of My Dreams), with Mike recording every musical part of the track himself alongside production duties.

JADE says: “Fantasy is a love song that I wrote with dream team Pablo Bowman and Mike Sabath about feeling safe enough with your partner to shamelessly explore your fantasies! I can’t wait for my fans to experience more of my musical world.” The standout video for the track was filmed in LA and

MUSIC Q&A

BRIAN FALDUTO FINDS JOY IN A SOLO CHRISTMAS

Brian Falduto first gained fame playing the role of Fancy Pants in the Jack Black film School of Rock. Last year, he released his first country music song. It received a flood of positive encouragement, quickly becoming an LGBTQ+ country music anthem. Subsequent releases followed including Falduto’s first full-length album, Gay Country (Deluxe Edition). Now the country crooner is out with his first original holiday song. “Christmas Solo” is a playful, country-pop tune that shines a spotlight on those who find themselves joyfully alone during the holidays. We caught up with Brian Falduto from his home in NYC.

What do you know about spending Christmas solo?

Brian Falduto: I was single for many Christmases. In fact, maybe all until the past two. I would always spend the day with my immediate family, and even though I may not have been physically alone, I often felt alone. I found that the holidays were a time of the year where I was forced to spend hours in environments that didn’t feel entirely

supportive. Where I felt I couldn’t be my full, authentic self. It’s common in the queer community to feel a bit out of place when returning to your hometown because you don’t feel the same sense of belonging that you might with the chosen family you’ve created for yourself.

The holidays can be a very lonely time of year.

Brian Falduto: People suffer with loneliness all year round but particularly around Christmas time. There’s an overwhelming number of songs reinforcing that feeling. “Christmas Solo” is meant to help alleviate loneliness rather than contribute to it.

Why is important to have a song for singles?

Brian Falduto: Because single people exist just as couples and families do. Times are changing and while romance and togetherness will always be a thing, people are realizing those aren’t the only options for happiness. In fact, it’s important to enjoy time with yourself before you go giving your time and self away to someone else.

What are some of the advantages of spending Christmas solo?

Brian Falduto: There are so many: not having to get dressed up, not having to make small talk with people you see once a year, not having to cook for people or clean up after them. There is also the advantage of actually getting some time off rather than having your holiday break filled with commitments! Being able to relax and decompress, maybe slowing down enough to be able to appreciate the true sentiment of the season which often gets lost in the hustle and bustle of it all.

Can you tell us about the process of creating the song?

Brian Falduto: My producer Brett Castro is so brilliant and much of the magic of “Christmas Solo” should be credited to him. We took a lot of production inspiration from Kelly Clarkson’s Christmas catalogue. She’s really perfected the modern holiday pop sound, in my opinion. I worked with a new mixing engineer (Ed Boyer) on this track too because I wanted it to sound a little shinier than some of my recent country releases.

Brian Falduto: Gosh, I don’t deserve what Nate’s done with this song. The sax moments truly make it what it is. I was so humbled he took the time out to do this because I know he’s beginning to release a bunch of his own music as well. As for Bron and Kels, I’ve been singing with them for nearly a decade. It’s awesome to have long time collaborators because they know me so well and I can be confident that they’re always going to deliver something great.

What do you hope listeners take away from “Christmas Solo”?

Brian Falduto: There are so many scary things going on in our world right now. I think joy can be not only a radical form of resistance when needed but also a remedy for pain and a vehicle for raising the vibrational frequency of our collective consciousness. I hope this song brings some joy to those who hear it.

The song features a standout saxophone solo by Nate Hopkins and festive vocals by Bronwyn Whittle and Kelsey Martin.
