MOST AWAITED FILMS FOR 2025

As we look ahead to next year’s offerings, there is an exciting mix of bold epics and star-studded returns. From the high-octane action of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Avatar: Fire and Ash to gripping dramas such as The Running Man and The Lost Bus, there is something for everyone. Directors such as Brady Corbet, Edgar Wright and Luca Guadagnino will deliver new stories, while big names such as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt return to the screen.

Here is a round-up of 2025’s most awaited films.

THE BRUTALIST

Winning comparisons to The Godfather and Once Upon a Time in America, Brady Corbet’s 3.5-hour epic about coming to America stars Adrien Brody as a European immigrant fleeing the Holocaust who finds a job in America remodeling the palatial home of a wealthy plutocrat, played by Guy Pearce. Bold, brutalist architecture and stunning Vista Vision cinematography are guaranteed. Jan 24

BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY

Is Bridget Jones, now a widowed mother of two children, too old for a toyboy half her age, played by One Day’s Leo Woodall? Is it wrong to lie about your age when online dating? Helen Fielding’s book, on which the film is based, said no, but what about the movie? The TV director Michael Morris takes over the reins from Sharon Maguire, but Hugh Grant returns as the devilish Daniel Cleaver. Feb 14.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — THE FINAL RECKONING

The Mission: Impossible series, urged on by the indefatigable Tom Cruise and his partner in crime, the director Christopher McQuarrie, seems to be going out on a high — with Cruise hanging from a bright yellow biplane, among other perilous activities. Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Vanessa Kirby all reprise their roles to give one of the all-time great action franchises a send-off. May 21

28 YEARS LATER

Yes, it is almost 28 years since Danny Boyle gave us his zombie classic 28 Days Later. Returning to the director’s chair for the first time since his 2019 film Yesterday, Boyle, working with the series’ original writer, Alex Garland, has cooked up a fresh apocalypse for Cillian Murphy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes. Shot during Grand Prix weekends and co-starring Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem and Tobias Menzies, the film, to judge by its trailer, promises state-of-the-art driving sequences and a killer soundtrack. Jun

THE BATTLE OF BAKTAN CROSS

Aug

BOOK REVIEW

ALWAYS OVERBOOKED

In Great-Grandma’s day, they hooked.

They were high-topped and dainty, too, to show off a tiny, cheeky-but-demure ankle beneath long skirts. These days, though, they Velcro, tie, strap, or you just slip your toes into whatever you put on your feet. You gotta wear your shoes but, as in the new book “American Teenager” by Nico Lang, you wish someone would walk a mile in them first.

Seven-hundred-plus.

That’s how many anti-gay, anti-trans bills were presented to state legislatures around the country last year, many aimed at minors. As if being a teenager isn’t hard enough. With this in mind, Lang shadowed seven trans kids, to find out how they and their families cope with our current political landscape.

Fifteen-year-old South Dakotan Wyatt is in the 10th grade. He knows that the lawmakers in his state “will just keep turning up the boil” on trans bills and it makes him physically sick. When Lang asked Wyatt to describe himself, Wyatt couldn’t do it, as if, says Lang, he was “still in transit, not yet arrived.”

Near Birmingham, Rhydian is a good student at the Magic City Acceptance Academy, the only school in the South that specifically welcomes LGBTQIA+ students, and he enjoys the deep love and support of his parents and grandmother. But he’s frustrated: Rhydian’s been waiting for months for top surgery, which has been put on hold for reasons that are political.

Mykah identifies as gender-fluid, Black, and bi-racial and they desperately dream of a future performing career. In Houston, Ruby’s beloved church held a re-naming ceremony for her when she turned eighteen. Seventeen-year-old trans boy Clint is Muslim, and has managed to avoid scrutiny from his Chicago mosque.

Jack, along with her mother and nonbinary sibling, Augie, were homeless before their mother finally managed to find housing; in the meantime, Jack lost her health care. And in Los Angeles, Kylie has health care, support, friends, and an activist mother.

She has advantages that most trans kids can only wish for – and she knows it.

Acne. Peer pressure. Social media. Being a teen has always been difficult, even without anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation. In this fine work of journalism, author Nico Lang shows how a handful of kids in one group are coping with governmental policies and life in general.

Hint: you can expect the unexpected.

“American Teenager” shows the highs and lows of being a teen with the added stress of politics included – and here, the individuality inside the ordinary is striking and wonderful. Lang is careful to show how these are just typical kids – good-hearted, smart, funny, sarcastic – and it rings throughout each profile how much the discrimination they endure affects their lives and relationships. That’s a clarion call, absolutely, but readers who can see between the lines will also enjoy this book’s humor, it’s compassion, and the sheer joy of meeting decent, thoughtful teens.

Parents will like this book for its candor, and that goes double for adults who love a trans kid. Start “American Teenager” and before long, you’ll be hooked.

FEATURE THE ART OF GETTING “EVEN”

Los Angeles-based pop singer Stewart Taylor is taking listeners on a nostalgic yet futuristic ride with his electrifying new single and music video, “Even.” Available on YouTube now, the dance-pop anthem and its visually stunning video mark a creative high point for the artist, known for his heartfelt lyrics, dynamic visuals, and innovative storytelling.

“Even” is a deeply personal “pre-breakup song” that delves into the complexities of love and accountability in a turbulent relationship. As Taylor explains, “The language of the heart is tricky. You can be very much in love with someone and end up on opposing teams.” With honest lyrics and a driving European dance-pop sound produced by Romanian hitmaker MADS, the track explores

the emotional push and pull of a couple trying to “get even” with each other. Ultimately, Taylor’s message is one of empowerment and personal growth, advocating for breaking toxic cycles through accountability rather than revenge.

Accompanying the release is a music video that pushes creative boundaries, directed by Taylor’s longtime friend and collaborator, Benjamin Farren. The video presents a relationship as a literal video game, complete with special effects, animation, and vibrant styling. Taylor and his on-screen partner navigate various emotional and mental challenges, with each argument propelling them deeper into an inescapable virtual reality. The concept was inspired by retro video games and a jacket Taylor saw during New York Fashion

Week emblazoned with the words “Game Over.” “In real life, we were very much ‘Game Over’ by the time I finished this song,” Taylor reflects. “I left that relationship and took back my power, so I won!”

The video’s choreography, crafted by Julie Vegliante, showcases Taylor’s evolution as a dancer, pushing him to new creative heights. The styling, a collaboration between Taylor and German fashion designer Joseph Auren, features bold, indie-inspired looks that reflect the artist’s personal journey and ethos. Highlights include cinematic fight scenes in a neon Corvette and a striking visual of Taylor’s partner wearing a golden panther head—a nod to the volatile nature of their former relationship. “My ex was always ready to pounce about anything and everything,” Taylor shares. “Turning

that story into a video game character was a cathartic moment.”

“Even” represents a significant milestone in Taylor’s artistic evolution. Building on the foundation of previous releases like his funk and R&B-inspired debut single “Mess Your Hair Up” and the haunting “Nightmares,” Taylor continues to solidify his unique sound and vision. He credits “Even” as one of his best songs to date, both for its emotional honesty and its groundbreaking visual execution. To extend the song’s reach, Taylor has partnered with Sapphire Records for a Tennebreck remix, designed to amplify its appeal for club audiences.

As Taylor looks ahead to the release of his debut album later this year, he promises a collection of songs that “pack a punch” and

FEATURE

showcase his growth as a storyteller and artist. While “Even” draws from the pain of a tumultuous relationship, Taylor has reached a place of peace with his past. “Over the years, my ex and I have healed a lot and have managed to stay friends,” he reveals. “He’s heard ‘Even’ and has been very supportive. Thankfully for both of us, the fighting is over, and our stories only come alive again in my melodies.”

Stewart Taylor’s journey from a small town outside New York City to the vibrant music scene of Los Angeles is one of perseverance and passion. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Taylor has collaborated with Grammy-nominated songwriters and producers like Charlie Puth and Kara DioGuardi and penned songs for international artists such as Romanian pop star Antonia and K-pop sensation Josh Cullen. His work has also resonated within the LGBTQ+ community, with contributions to RuPaul’s Drag Race stars like JuJu Bee, Mo Heart, and Manila Luzon. Taylor’s personal story as an out artist was featured in the New York Times bestselling book It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating a Life Worth Living.

“Even” is distributed by Sapphire Records and is available on all major digital platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.

Fans can follow Stewart Taylor on Instagram and TikTok at @imstewarttaylor or visit his official website www.stewarttaylorofficial.com

KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND REVEALED AS HEADLINE ENTERTAINER FOR DAP HEALTH’S

31ST ANNUAL STEVE CHASE HUMANITARIAN AWARDS

The gala event will be presented by Desert Care Network at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Tickets are now on sale, and sponsorship opportunities are still available. Beloved local caterer and philanthropist Lynn Hammond to receive the Partners for Life Award.

More than a thousand enthusiastic and generous supporters of DAP Health are expected at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Saturday, March 29, 2025, for The 31st Annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards (AKA The Chase) presented by Desert Care Network.

Attendees are sure to get down that night when recently revealed headline entertainers, the legendary KC and The Sunshine Band, storm the stage.

Since their formation in 1973, the group — led by Harry Wayne “KC” Casey — has brought joy to audiences worldwide with their signature “Miami sound,” a fusion of Caribbean, R&B, and funk. With over 100 million albums sold, chart-topping hits like “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “Get Down Tonight,” and “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty,” and music featured in over 200 movies, TV shows, and ad campaigns, KC and The Sunshine Band have left an indelible mark on music and pop culture.

Their accolades include multiple Grammy Awards, an American Music Award, and stars on both the Hollywood and Palm Springs Walks of Fame. Known for their electrifying live performances, KC and The Sunshine Band continue to spread instant happiness across the globe.

“Over the last three decades plus, to say that DAP Health has been fortunate enough to have iconic acts grace our stage at The Chase is a major understatement,” says CEO David Brinkman. “To that illustrious, multi-platinum list we add the inimitable KC and The Sunshine Band for our 31st iteration in March. I can already foresee a standing, sold out crowd giving it up to shake, shake, shake and get

down that night in their boogie shoes. Keep it coming, love, ’cause that’s the way I like it.”

“I came up with the concept of doing more of a dance party,” adds DAP Health Co-Vice Chair and The Chase Event Chair Kevin Bass, who was instrumental in getting his friend Barry Manilow — a legendary musical powerhouse in his own right — to donate his performance at 2024’s The Chase. That night, $2.3 million was raised!

“I thought, ‘Let’s bring in a famous dance band whose music catalog everybody knows and loves, continues Bass. “Who better than KC and The Sunshine Band? They represent a time people

really remember fondly. So, for 2025, we’re not asking people to just sit, or stand at the front of the stage. We want them to actually get up and dance the night away! It’s going to be a fantastic set because everyone in that room will know each and every one of that inimitable act’s solid gold hits!”

Before that disco dancing frenzy caps out the evening, there will be enough love and goodwill to warm the hearts of those in attendance for weeks thereafter.

NYE HIGHLIGHTS INDESIGN

A NEW YEAR & NEW YOU…. AT HOME!

Each January Hollywood descends on Palm Springs. You may already know that January is the month of our cities largest event, The Palm Springs International Film Festival. The excitement, the films, the gala, and the a-list actors all combine to create a week’s long set of events and screenings for film lovers. As in years past, I have taken the liberty in these pages to share my thoughts on films and how their style has influenced, and continues to influence, the way we live and the styles that become popular. Films can transport us with their style and production design to a place where we can imagine ourselves living in the same way.

It also happens that the film festival falls in the month of January, a time of renewal and rebirth for a new year. What a wonderful time to be thinking about how you live and to consider all the many choices you make regarding your lifestyle. Using great films to consider your own lifestyle choices is easy and can

happen without you making a conscious decision to do so. It isn’t any different than being influenced by anything you see or anywhere you go. The desire for change is keen at this time of year and we seem to make our greatest effort to do so with the introduction of the renewed calendar.

When trying to ascertain a client’s desires for their home, I will often ask what some of their favorite movies are regarding style. I might even ask them to go back and watch any film they remembered loving because, there can often be a more subliminal message of style as part of the story. A good film allows us to enter a world being created to bring us closer to the characters and the tale. We feel closer to the narrative by being immersed in all the details. In the same way, this is how we tell our own personal story through our homes. We present clues to who we are through the colors, patterns, furnishings, possessions, etc. that we choose to live with.

I have often written about the importance of choices when creating a meaningful, comfortable and beautiful home. The trick is to make conscious decisions and choices that speak to who you are inside and avoid what you think you should have, or what other people tell you is best. With my clients, I speak in terms of how things make them feel, what kind of emotions they might evoke and how every choice is a piece of a puzzle. The finished picture can end up being a chronicle of your life as it is today and as you see it, that is what matters. When one chooses to be safe, to select things that are in vogue or the popular choice of the moment, a home becomes a recital of someone else’s thoughts and ideas. A truly memorable home is one that reveals itself with each interaction and experience. There is always a new awareness. When someone asks me, “Have you always had that?” Or “Has that always been there?” I am reminded of how a beautiful room makes us more aware of our surroundings. It is my job to create such meaningful spaces and to help you make the journey for yourself. With that in mind, here are a few ideas to get you into the headspace of being a mindful decorator.

• First, be mindful. I know it is easy for me to say but, take your time. You should choose how you live with great care. It makes a difference every single day.

• Do your homework. This one goes together with the above and it means that you should always be clear about your decisions. Consider all options, discuss the pros & cons, so that in the end you are confident in your choices

• Don’t work from a standpoint of fear. We all worry about what others might say or think. But only you can make choices that are right for your lifestyle. I recommend you avoid asking for other people’s opinions. Without the proper context this can only confuse the issue.

• Be bold! Color is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways of creating personalized spaces. All white or neutral rooms tend to become bland and boring. You don’t have to open a Crayola box of crayon colors to be bold. You can coordinate and/or blend with your room’s decor, or you can contrast for a whole new look. This little trick is a great way to create a totally new room without starting over.

• Try moving things around. I like to take pieces from other rooms and mix anew. When you move something completely, it gives that piece new life and enlivens the pieces around it. By using this technique, along with some fresh paint or paint colors you can redecorate any room without having to invest large sums of money.

• Seasonal decorating is another way to freshen rooms without going overboard. Decorative pillows, accessories and scent can create a new feeling.

• Window treatments dramatically change a room. I hear all too often, “I don’t want anything covering my windows.” This is a common mistake, so it is time to change the conversation. Window treatments don’t have to cover a window. What they do is frame a view and add warmth, luxury and finish to any room. Think of a beautifully dressed woman without makeup. The look isn’t finished. The details matter.

These are a few ideas to get you started in your New Year’s reboot. My wish for you is a happy, healthy new year filled with beauty and comfort. Think of living well, not as the best revenge but as the choice you make for yourself as a positive and fulfilling statement about who you are inside and out.

Live Well!

SHAKESPEARE REIMAGINED IN FAT HAM BY JAMES IJAMES AT DEZART PERFORMS

Dezart Performs (dezartperforms.org) presents FAT HAM Jan 17 - 26, 2025 directed by Michael Shaw. Critically acclaimed playwright James Ijames reinvents Shakespeare’s’ Hamlet with this new drama. Performances are at The Pearl McManus Theater at the historic Palm Springs Woman’s Club, 314 S. Cahuilla Road, Downtown Palm Springs. FAT HAM runs 90 minutes without intermission.

To be or not to be certainly is the question for Juicy, a Black, queer, Southern college kid grappling with serious questions of identity, when the ghost of his father shows up at the family cookout demanding

that Juicy avenge his murder. What’s different is Juicy himself, a sensitive and self-aware young Black man trying to break the cycles of trauma and violence in service of his own liberation. Juicy grapples with identity, family, responsibility and honesty as generations clash at the barbecue. Serving up the drama, wit and existential angst of the Bard with a generous side of humor and heart, this modern revamp of Shakespeare’s Hamlet emerges as a compelling examination of love and loss, pain and joy. Starring Devere Rogers (Juicy), Candace Nicholas-Lippman (Tedra), Tamiyka White (Rabby), Maci Alexis (Opal) and Michael Houston (Larry).

Desert Performs Founder and Artistic Director Michael Shaw is thrilled to bring the story alive. “Directing Fat Ham is an exhilarating journey into the heart of comedy and tragedy, where each moment is a fresh exploration of family, identity, and the chaos of living. It’s a thrill to bring this vibrant, bold reimagining of Hamlet to life on stage.”

PERSPECTIVE HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

What exactly am I wishing for this particular year?

It’s such a simple answer on one hand. I hope for great heath, happiness, peace on earth, continued personal growth, much more dancing, more joy, stronger community ties just to name a few. But that is just the stock reply.

I mean every word of it but underlying all of that is the fear of the unknown.

I believe that most of us in the gay community are anxiously awaiting Inauguration Day when the inevitable becomes a reality.

I do know that most of my friends, and I am blessed to have quite a few of you, have shared with me that they have unplugged themselves from all forms of media, news and platforms. They have found that they are happier not immersing themselves in politics or current events.

In the past, I was somewhat reluctant to tell people that I had unplugged from those outlets after my ex moved back to Houston.

For 13 years he had the news on 24/7 unless we were out dancing or dining. I made the decision once he left to disconnect my cable and only caught news headlines at the gym, if I looked up from my phone where I was reading while doing cardio.

If something significant was happening, the first client of the morning would typically fill me in, allowing me to be somewhat current. But, as far as the news went, I watched Biden’s acceptance speech and Kamala’s election results and that’s about it!

Perhaps that is part of why I usually have a smile on my face. Just saying!

But the close friends who have been glued to their phones, tablets, TV’s and radios over the years are now telling me that they have never been happier and feel closer to those around them.

They have rules when they throw parties. They ask their guests to leave politics at the door and not bring it to the table. They have shared that they feel more connected to their partners and friends and wish they had made this decision years before.

Some of these people are my clients. This affords me the unique opportunity to see beyond their decision to stop following politics. I have noticed that they have become more focused while working out and as a result they no longer use the workout to discharge

I keep suggesting that we chose a date to quietly yet powerfully show people exactly how far-reaching the gay community is. If all of you called off work for one 24-hour period, can you imagine all the things that would not be happening?! Maybe that day is Friday,

A GOODE REASON TO EXPERIENCE MAL WEEKEND IN DC

Kinetic Presents and Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend are set to electrify Washington, D.C., this January with a landmark celebration featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Gigi Goode. As part of the 40th anniversary of the Centaur Motorcycle Club’s Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend (MAL), this partnership promises a thrilling experience for attendees from around the globe. Taking place from Thursday, January 9, through Sunday, January 12, 2025, this year’s event is packed with cutting-edge performances, a star-studded DJ lineup, and unforgettable parties—all while supporting LGBTQIA+ nonprofit organizations.

Since its humble beginnings in 1985, MAL has grown into a cornerstone event for the leather and fetish community. Beyond its celebration of leather culture, the event has built a reputation for philanthropy, raising over $90,000 in 2024 alone for local and national LGBTQIA+ causes. Now, in its 40th year, MAL continues to honor its roots while evolving into a dynamic and inclusive space for self-expression and connection.

KINETIC Presents, a production powerhouse renowned for its LGBTQ+ events, has teamed up with MAL once again to host a series of spectacular dance parties throughout the weekend. “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the incredible drag artist Gigi Goode as the headliner for Saturday’s main event,” said Dougie Meyer, co-producer of KINETIC Presents. “This year’s MAL Weekend also introduces an exciting lineup of new DJs to the KINETIC family, including Erik Vilar, Eliad Cohen, Boomer Banks, Sam Blacky, and Paulo.”

The festivities kick off on Thursday with KINETIC: KINK’s BOOTCAMP, the official opening party. Held at an all-new venue, BOOTCAMP features DJs Onyx, Alex Lo, and international sensation

Dan Slater. With a play zone and an atmosphere buzzing with energy, BOOTCAMP sets the stage for an unforgettable weekend. Saturday’s main event brings the iconic PERVERT party— produced in partnership with the world-renowned Matinée Group— to Washington, D.C., for the first time. Hosted in a brand-new, multilevel warehouse in Northeast D.C., the event will feature a dazzling performance by Gigi Goode, along with sets by DJs Erik Vilar, Eliad Cohen, and Paulo. With breathtaking stage design, immersive production, and newly introduced play zones, PERVERT promises to be the highlight of the weekend. Co-producer Zach Renovátes added, “This year, we’re bringing you the hottest adult performers and a venue that will deliver the wildest MAL main event yet.”

The weekend culminates on Sunday with LUST, an erotically charged closing party at Culture, one of D.C.’s most talked-about new venues. Featuring Grammy-nominated DJ Abel and Los Angeles-based DJ Sam Blacky, LUST offers dark beats, sultry vibes, and mesmerizing performances by top adult entertainers, providing the perfect finale to an epic weekend.

KINETIC: KINK VIP Weekend Passes grant express entry to all four events, access to VIP-designated areas, and exclusive amenities at select venues. MAL “Full Weekend Package” pass holders will also receive access to the LUST Sunday Closing Party. All events are 21+.

With its unparalleled mix of community, culture, and cuttingedge entertainment, this year’s MAL Weekend is not to be missed. For details on MAL Weekend, including hotels and accommodations, visit leatherweekend.com. For tickets to the weekend’s best parties, visit www.KineticPresents.com

CVREP - WINTER/SPRING SEASON

Coachella Valley Repertory continues its 2024-2025 Season with The Light In The Piazza (January 22-February 9), called “The most intensely romantic score of any musical since West Side Story by The New York Times. CVRep Executive Artistic Director Adam Karsten unveils his concept for Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s revelatory Jesus Christ Superstar (March 5-23). Set close to home will be the dark comedy and Tony Award® nominee, Other Desert Cities (April 23-May 4). Bringing the season to an intriguing close will be the World Premiere of Gregg Ostrin’s The Beverly Hills Peace Talks (May 21-25), which was selected from among the hundreds of submissions to CVRep’s 2023 Origins: New Works Program. Each show has a powerful story to tell, and The Light In The Piazza and Jesus Christ Superstar contain some of most beautiful and captivating songs written for the Broadway stage.

The Light In The Piazza

Winner of six Tony® Awards and five Drama Desk Awards, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA is set in Tuscany during the early 1950s. Margaret Johnson, a wealthy American woman from the South, and her daughter, Clara, are vacationing in Tuscany. While mother and daughter sightsee in a charming piazza, Clara loses her hat in a sudden gust, landing at the feet of Fabrizio, a handsome young Florentine man. Of course, it is love at first sight. But, as in real life,

THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA becomes complicated. Due to a brain injury during childhood, Clara sometimes acts with innocent, childlike behavior that belies her age. Reflecting on the course her own life has taken, Margaret wonders if protecting Clara will deprive her daughter of a chance for a full life and true love or if she should shield her from demands that may overwhelm her.

Jesus Christ Superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar is a revelation. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber have spent their careers exploring complex and controversial personalities, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR may be their most powerful achievement: examining the final days of Jesus of Nazareth, the hero of the New Testament. In Jesus Christ Superstar, Judas is concerned that the followers of Jesus are getting out of control and may be viewed as a threat by religious and government leaders. He also warns Jesus about the impression his relationship with Mary Magdalene may be giving. Following his betrayal of Jesus, Judas is horrified by the cruelty and death sentence meted out by Pontius Pilate. He returns the 30 pieces of gold he was paid to betray Jesus and kills himself. In a final moment of powerful supposition, the spirit of Judas returns to Jesus and asks him why he chose to arrive in the manner and time that he did, and if it was all part of a divine plan after all.

Rice and Webber explore the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, and the uncompromising political powers of Jerusalem and the Roman Empire. The characters are given their humanity and treated with contemporary sensibility and enlightened compassion.

Jesus Christ Superstar contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.” Now more than 50 years since it was first heard, Jesus Christ Superstar continues to make perfect sense for some, while, for others, it is provocative and controversial.

Other Desert Cities

Other Desert Cities was nominated for a Tony® Award for Best Play, Lortel, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, winning the latter. It is a dark comedy with themes of depression, addiction, family and memory. After six years in New York writing magazine articles, Brooke Wyeth returns to her family’s home in Palm Springs, California for Christmas. Her father, Lyman, is a former Republican ambassador, mother, Polly, a perfectionist for whom ‘appearances’ define her world, and charming younger brother, Trip. Polly’s liberal, alcoholic sister Silda is also visiting. When the news of Brooke’s memoir is revealed, her parents are faced with a choice: reveal a shocking secret that they have kept for decades or risk exposure when the world reads their story.

The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks (World Premiere)

Egypt and Israel have just signed an historic peace treaty following the 1967 Six-Day War. Tension rises again as a publicity still is released for the RayStar/Columbia Pictures Funny Girl with Egyptian heartthrob Omar Sharif kissing the American-Jewish star, Barbra Streisand. There is outrage in both countries and their governments, and both nations threaten to ban the film from their theaters. In The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks, playwright Gregg Ostrin has created an intriguing ‘what if’ story in which studio executives convene a high-level meeting with Israeli and Egyptian diplomats for the purpose of finding a resolution. Even as the diplomats’ relationship takes a surprising turn, they must wrestle with the question: Can they come to an agreement that will save the film and, potentially, the peace between their two countries?

Tickets for all performances can be purchased online at www. cvrep.org, by calling (760) 296-2966, ext. 0, or at the CVRep box office located at 68510 East Palm Canyon Dr., Cathedral City.

Coachella Valley Repertory is a non-profit, professional regional theater. It is the only theater in California’s Coachella Valley that has Small Professional Theatre (SPT) status with Actor’s Equity.
