Letter
letter/ How does one define Love? How does one define the strongest feeling in the world? Love is one of the most powerful tools in our universe today. Love can move mountains, start wars, heal a sick person and mend a broken heart. Love can make and break a person, a family, a company or a nation. What is the definition of Love? How can something so powerful be defined in simple words? According to any dictionary, Love is described as an intense affection for another person based on personal or familial ties. It also applies to animals and hobbies. In my dictionary, Love is the only feeling you can never describe. Love blinds you. Love consumes you. Love changes you. Love gives you life, happiness, determination, ambition; Love gives you a reason to wake up and look forward for the day; Love makes you whole... And Love destroys you... Love can be the best thing that ever happens to you or it can be the worst. It depends on how you accept it and embrace it. Consume it before it consumes you; breathe it in before it drowns you in because just like it can lift your spirits it can also crush your soul. The greatest kind of Love comes from your family; the pure, the unconditional, the genuine, the loyal and the most caring. This kind of Love is the best backbone and support you will have throughout your life. However, the most important and strongest kind of Love is the Love you have for yourself. It is when you have those two kinds of Love, that you become invincible and stronger than ever. Everything else will just follow and fall right into place. Love yourself first for it is then that you determine the Love you deserve and not the other way around. Until next time, Hind Nassar

Marbles has always been visible in our home dÊcor, but now it’s hitting the fashion world as well! This season, whether its shoes, bags or even clothing, the marble trend has taken over the streets of the most fashionable cities.

This print is all about revamping familiar marble patterns with a bold graphic finish, bringing styles to life with a dramatic intensity. As well as using the material itself in all its various hues, designers have applied marbled prints to all sorts of fashion accessories and clothing. Designer brands such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and Charlotte Olympia all feature marble printed
pieces in their collections this season. Yes, marble print has previously been done in interior design but it’s never really taken the fashion industry by storm until now. This trend feels very classic yet artsy and avant-garde at the same time, it’s something new that the fashion world requires.

Rosa Clarรก
Rosa Clarรก will open the bridal fashion show with a 2016 collection filled with contrasts and subtleties that emphasize the essence of female beauty.
the talk - page 56
The white dress immortalised by the great divas of the 1930s and 1940s provides inspiration for a line of flowing gowns that sensually and delicately trace the lines of the female figure. Each dress is packed with stunning details like richly textured embroidered beaded brooches. A second line draws inspiration from the full crinoline skirts of the Victorian era, bringing contemporary styling to a classic look. These skirts’ lightweight fabrics give them spectacular volume, and combining them with a dazzling range of knit tops and blouses blends formal sophistication with a touch of youthful spontaneity. The clean sculpted lines that characterise Rosa Clará designs are enriched with patterning and silk brocade texture to produce highly contemporary straight- or fullskirted gowns. In the 2016 collection, Rosa Clará brings the latest international catwalk trends to bridalwear, introducing crop tops, blouses and beaded embroidered detailing, among a host of other features. Rosa Clará continues to innovate in the choice of premium-quality fabrics she combines in her designs. The firm’s prestige rests on its use of 100%-natural fabrics like silk brocade, traditionally woven lace, crepe, muslin, crepe Georgette and silk organza and mikado. the talk - page 57

Fatma Al Gharabally
A wife, a mother and an entrepreneur – not only is Fatma successful in her personal life but she worked hard to pursue what she loves and opened up her own boutique, GRAIN. It now stands out among the rest, focusing on individuality and out of the ordinary pieces.
Editor: Sally Khaddage / Photographed by: Yousif Abdulsaid the talk - page 58
“ I think style is intuitive and it is not about concentrating on luxury brands and logos.”
Tell us a little bit about you I’m a wife and mother of two boys... I try to balance between two careers, an investment manager at a healthcare investment company and managing my boutique, GRAIN. Although I had a technical background (engineering major in college), I always loved fashion. So after 6 years working at an investment company I finally decided to take this step and open a multi brand boutique. When and how did the idea of opening up your own boutique come up? The idea started in 2012 when I realized that the Kuwaiti market was saturated with either high-street fashion labels or traditional luxury brands. There was an opportunity to explore designers who are young, innovative and have something different to offer to the Kuwaiti market than what is already available. Most of these designers don’t follow the trends dictated to us by the media or the traditional luxury brands, but offer more unique and distinct pieces. the talk - page 59
Fashion - Interview
In a competitive market, what differentiates GRAIN from the rest of the boutiques in Kuwait? Individuality. We offer our customers something unique and different. Over the past three years we were able to find new exciting designers early on in their careers who grew with us and are now stocked at the coolest concept stores like Colette in Paris and Browns in London. What were the challenges that you faced? It is challenging to always offer something new and different yet appealing to our customers in this competitive market. Also, when we first opened the store, it was a bit tricky to identify professional and reliable young, emerging designers who consistently deliver the same high quality product. But with time and experience we were able to identify such designers who grew with us over the past few years. Do you have any plans on expanding across the Gulf region? Not in the meantime. However we launched our online store (www. grainkuwait.com) last year which ships worldwide so that we can reach our customers outside of Kuwait. How would you describe your personal fashion style? Although my schedule and lifestyle the talk - page 60
restrict me from spending too much time on dressing myself, I do make the most effort I can to dress in something in a way I think is both practical and contemporary. I think style is intuitive and it is not about concentrating on luxury brands and logos. It’s a day-by-day thing. When buying for GRAIN, I try to select items that are bold and reflect the style of a young, fashion savvy customer. I try to choose structurally beautiful pieces. I also like to work with designers that experiment with unique materials and prints to present something unexpected. Who is your favorite designer? It’s so hard to choose as there are many inspiring people I admire. But I like phoebe philo’s approach to style and her work at Celine. It represents a powerful, independent working woman who makes daring choices without being too stale.
Why have you chosen these particular designers to sell their pieces? They think outside of the box and don’t follow any trend that is “dictated” to them by the industry. They have their own style and always present something bold and unexpected. What is the current trend for the upcoming season? We’ve seen many different trends in 2016 runway shows and my favorite are: Eccentric minimalist pieces, off the shoulder tops and dresses, tops with voluminous sleeves, feminine lady like dresses, Latin looks, ruffles and striped tops and dresses. What advice can you give someone who is interested in becoming a boutique owner? Try to reflect your own style in your business and always try to be unique because that will give your store its character and will distinguish it from the rest. the talk - page 61

Jonathan Anderson
London College of Fashion graduate, Jonathan Anderson, never had in mind to be the designer that unleashes the unisex creature that’s now taking over the worldwide catwalks. Anderson stuck to the fashion he believes in and since then, has grown to be a name we all recognize in the fashion industry. the talk - page 62
Jonathan Anderson, a 34 year-old Northern Irish designer, established his own brand J.W.Anderson in 2008. Ever since then, he’s been booming steadily. With his unique vision and interpretation of masculinity and femininity, he decided to mix up certain elements of menswear and womenswear to come up with a new ideology of menswear, resulting a buzz in the fashion industry. In 2008, he launched his first collection targeting men and shortly after, in 2010, at the request of fans, he launched a womenswear collection. “I was already doing accessories and women were buying them so it transcribed to doing womenswear,” Anderson stated in a press release. Since then he’s continued to explore the relationship between male and female with every collection he makes. A prominent name in the world of fashion, Anderson, has become one of the most renowned young designers. Being recognized internationally as an innovative designer, he’s been working hard to get to the top. Getting chosen to be the creative director of Spanish luxury house Loewe in 2013, Anderson began showing a more polished take on his idiosyncratic vision. the talk - page 63
Fashion - Designer Focus
In 2010, Anderson received sponsorship from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN committee and presented his first catwalk collection at London Fashion Week, having built a solid reputation through previously sponsored collections created for Topman. Receiving instant recognition and commercial success, Anderson secured a second NEWGEN sponsorship and in 2012, was awarded the “Emerging Talent Award” by the British Fashion Council. Most recently at the British Fashion Awards J.W.Anderson, the brand, received a historic double award for ‘Menswear’ and ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’, the first time any brand has ever won both prestigious awards. In September 2012 Anderson collaborated with Topshop on a widely successful limited edition collection of clothing and accessories that immediately sold out within hours of its launch. “The launch with J.W.Anderson is a new and exciting approach for Topshop to our collaborations,” said Topshop’s creative director Kate Phelan. Following the huge success of the first collaboration, Anderson produced a second collection for Topshop in February 2013. Soon after, he showcased his first collection for Versace diffusion line Versus and thus receiving an even wider industry acknowledgment. the talk - page 64
International editors and buyers have taken note of Anderson’s remarkable talent, gaining his label a well-recognized reputation in the US, Europe and Asian markets. Some of the key buyers include Barneys, Opening Ceremony, Dover Street Market, and Jeffrey in the US whilst Net-a-Porter, Moda Operandi, Matches & Mr Porter are the main online shopping destinations for J.W.Anderson pieces. Yes, the designers career may have began at The London College of Fashion but a while before that; Anderson primarily pursued a career in acting at the studio theatre in Washington D.C. However, his interest in costume design led his path to slightly detour and complete a degree in menswear design from which he graduated from in 2005. During that time, Anderson worked as a visual merchandiser at Prada- until he perfected his designs and relocated to London to launch his own label.

beauty tips 7 tips to keep your hair healthy
Getting your hair into healthy condition and keeping it that way isn’t a hard thing to do, it only takes a bit of awareness as to what can damage your hair 1. Trim your hair regularly- every 3-6 months visit your hair dresser and have a few inches cut off.
wet, and always use a wide-toothed comb on wet hair, never, ever a brush.
2. Condition, condition, condition! Every time you plan on showering, make sure you use a conditioner afterwards. This will keep your hair feeling smooth and looking beautiful. 3. If you use color or apply a lot of friction to your hair when you style it, using a shampoo that is made specifically to strengthen your hair also goes a long way in keeping it in excellent condition between trims.
5. Avoid putting hair toys in your hair that will cause damage to remove (like rubber bands, for instance), or anything that has sharp edges that could potentially tear or damage the cuticle.

6. Treat your hair delicately. The longer it is or you intend it to eventually be, the more important this is. 7. Never, ever just rip a knot out of your hair. Doing this is sure to result in breakage and splitting. Remove as much hair from the knot as possible and then simply snip the tiny tangle that remains.

The ultimate non-surgical cosmetic solutions The Dermatology Clinic offers a variety of medical esthetic services carried out under the supervision of the clinics efficient dermatologist and cosmetologist Dr. Edita Gasparyan. The services provided are specially designed to help the patients based on their skin type and treatment goals. i-Lipo At HCC, Dr. Edita performs a variety of cosmetic treatment services by using the latest international equipments to ensure quality and satisfaction care. In our last visit to the clinic, Dr. Edita spoke about the i-lipo technology -- a technology that breaks the fat layer depth after just one treatment and results can be seen immediately after each treatment as the fat cell contents are released. Light exercise post treatment accelerates the removal of the released fat. Exilis The Exilis is designed for slimming and skin tightening, which is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment. At HCC, the team is aware of the importance of looking good and feeling confident for both males and females. The Exilis uses a revolutionary patented technology that delivers ultrasonic waves and controlled heating to the tissue, the machine targets deeper fat layers, while contact cooling of the surface regulates the temperature of the skin and protects fine dermal structures. Laser Hair Removal Laser hair removal has proven to be the best solution for getting rid of undesired hair in the last years. In fact, both men and women have resorted to laser hair removal as a substitute to shaving, waxing and tweezing. HCC clinic offers a variety of laser solutions such as hair removal, available at HCC clinic and performed by Dr. Edita Gasparyan . Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures at HCC since many men and women find it useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini line, and other areas- most patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to seven sessions. Breaking unbreakable fats Dr. Edita Gasparyan performs a new and distinguished
method in weight loss which is a modern Triactive device, in which laser technology and injections are used in order to dissolve fat and change it to liquid, to be moved easily from cells and then to blood by the lymphatic system, then from blood to the liver which converts it to power or get it out of the body. The treatment promises to remove stubborn areas of unwanted fat and prevents it from coming back, after conventional diet and exercise methods have failed. The jab contains plant polymers which bind with the cell walls of the fat tissue and release the fat to be dissolved. Once the formula has liquefied the fat cell, the jab makers say it’s then eliminated through urine over a three-week period. The FDA approved treatment can be administered all over the entire body like double chin, upper arms, arm pits, waist, hips, saddle bags, knees, shackles, augmented fat depots located on buttocks, chest and the inner thighs. According to Dr. Edita Gasparyan – Cosmetologist and Dermatologist at HCC, the amount of treatments varies according to the desired degree of amendment, the dimensions of the fat depot and the individual reactions of the fat tissue. On average you will have to expect around 3 to 5 appointments, with 4-week intervals, until you can actually perceive the results. It is important to keep in mind that this treatment does not result in weight loss. Healthy nutrition as well as an exercise regimen is an absolute necessity to ensure success of the treatment. Habitually, 2 injection spots are required per region with the amount of product used differing according to the area of fat being treated. A local anesthetic can be added to the solution before injecting to improve patient comfort levels; the treatment is relatively painless with a warm sensation, itching, slight burning, slight oedema and reddening appearance for 1-3 days within the treated area. Other treatments available at HCC and performed by Dr. Edita Gasparyan include laser stretch marks removal, laser acne scars removal, skin rejuvenation, bikini tightening, facial skin tightening and lips coloring.

This time around, we tried their high in demand facial treatment. There were four types of facial treatments that were ready to be used. Depending on your skin type the specialist would choose the suitable treatment for you. If your skin is dry, the honey treatment would be your choice. If your skin is sensitive, the berry treatment would be fit. If your skin is normal, the tomato treatment would be used. And finally, if your skin is like mine and it’s oily, the apple treatment would be best suited. So after choosing the facial suitable for my skin type, I laid down and the relaxation began. With soothing music in the background and scented candles all around- I was ready to relax and enjoy the ride. the talk - page 79

The whole treatment took about an hour, but during that hour the feeling was indescribable- I didn’t want it to end. I felt like I was somewhere far, far away from here- it was extraordinary! Annie, the facial expert, had hands of a goddess; she was so gentle and so comforting. Compared to the many facials I have done previously at different salons, this facial was by far one of my favorite. I was able to see the result immediately after my session- my skin felt soft, glowing and my pores were already visibly tightened. how to lose weight in 7 days Losing weight can be frustrating but following these daily steps will help you reach the weight you want in the time you want.
Sunday- Plan your meals for the week Plan ahead. Planning establishes a certain structure, which can help you stay within a calorie budget, reduce daily decision-making, and prevent overeating. Monday- Manage your time wisely Organizing your time and combining your tasks will not only let you realize how much you are eating but it will also allow you to focus on what type of foods you are eating. Tuesday- Follow an eating schedule Skipping meals is not the answer! We have all skipped a meal or two in hopes of losing a pound or two but contrary to our beliefs, by doing so we are actually harming our bodies instead. Wednesday- Limit your eating to the kitchen or dining room How many of us enjoy eating in our living room or our bedroom? We’re all guilty of doing so but that is the wrong way to go about it because we begin to link certain rooms with eating even when we’re not hungry. Limiting the talk - page 82
our eating to certain areas will prevent bad habits from developing. Thursday- Do nothing else while eating When you eat while doing other things, you’re less likely to notice how much you’re eating or how full you’re feeling because your attention is divided. The purpose is to increase your consciousness about what and how much you eat. Friday- Get support Don’t go through it alone when you’re trying to lose weight- research has shown having support from family and friends helps maintaining a healthy diet. Saturday- Take control of your thoughts The way you think can set off inappropriate eating. For example, if you eat cupcakes every time you see a cupcake commercial, you will begin to crave cupcakes and feel that you MUST have some each time you happen to think about them. Instead, distract yourself by doing something else.

How did it all begin? I’m emotional; it’s always about an emotion. Self-expression through art is how it all began. Tell us a little bit about your passion to art and photography in particular? I’m very much inspired by the human being, culture, identity, psychology and philosophy. Also, the mystery of beauty, I’m very much attracted to that. The idea of beauty beyond just the beauty of the face but of the whole person. Beauty of character, of being, the body, and the way it moves differently to each its own we are captivating creatures. It is something very deep and something very intense. My eyes never stop seeing and my heart never stops feeling. To have a subject in front of me like a block of marble and I get to crave them with light with each photograph it becomes an encounter and intimate confession. It fascinates me being close to another life! When did you start your career? My artistic career started whilst I was still in art school in Paris. Though after graduating with a bachelor in Art Direction and Graphic Design, I moved back to Kuwait in 2011 and got my first job as a Creative Director & Photographer for The Fragrance Kitchen by Sheikh Majed Al Sabah. Shortly after that I went back to Paris to get my Masters in the Business of Photography and now I’m ready to start my own little company.
Why did you decide to become a photographer? My life path led me into photography, I did not choose it. I believe the correct term to what I do is an “Image Maker” because I am also an Art Director. I love creating. What is the most challenging part about being a photographer for you? TECHNOLOGY! God I hate technology. Also, having people take me and my job seriously. I get too often “all you do is click a button.” One day, I’ll stream live a project sharing the creative process throughout one entire job from start to finish. I’m talking about photography as a professional career, working on big jobs. There is a lot of stress involved; there are responsibilities, team management, problem solving, production costs, copyrights, contracts, licensing, usage fees and the list goes on. I’m not talking about having a “big black camera” and helping a friend after work because I love photography and want to have fun. There is a difference. What type of photography do you do most? And why? I’m not the kind of photographer who always has a camera around her neck, always taking pictures of everything. Each project whether personal work or commercial has to touch me somehow, it’s really important for my work. I’m a Fine Art photographer specialized in Fashion (Editorial, Beauty, Still Life) and Portraits.

Where do you go for inspiration? This question baffles me. I’m constantly inspired! The word “photography” coming from Greek roots, the prefix (photo-) meaning light and the suffix (-graphy) meaning drawing, together meaning “drawing with light.” In darkness we were born, and in darkness we die. Light inspires me, I embrace mine with love. With it I live, create, be, dream, grow, transform, believe, evolve, thrive and heal. For me, light is life - just think of how light travels to reach my subjects! What is the best part of your job? Being surrounded by four white walls and inventing worlds, traveling, learning, meeting and working with creative people. And best of all, waking up in the morning with a smile in my heart because I just love it all! What can we expect to see from you next? Have you aligned more exhibitions? I’m always working on something, if you’re curious enough follow my journey! Do you have any advice for someone who wants to pursue a career in photography? Yes! Read, research and learn by looking at the works of the Masters of photography and painting. So when you come to create, your ideas bursts from your preconscious knowledge & you can take it from there to build onto your concepts. There is no need to copy, find your own style and voice, maybe you could be the next Irving Penn. If you spend your time trying to do what others do, you can be missing out on your own greatness!

Tell us a little bit about you and what you do. I’m still in the process of figuring out who I am, frankly. As for my persona, I work as a librarian. It’s a classic case of manifesting one’s reality because reading is as essential as breathing to me now.
the talk - page 102
How did you get into poetry? Poetry got into me. There was no way I could resist the offer! It’s still bizarre to me that we borrow so much from the unseen. It kind of makes you wonder who is really writing the poems.
Dress: Madiyah Al Sharqi Belt: Chopard
Where do you go for inspiration? Within and without, though mostly the former because the poetry, in itself, lives in the realm of intangibility. The mind-chatter can be relentless if I don’t provide it with a platform for catharsis. So, more than inspiration, poetry becomes a necessity. When it hits,
I have no choice in the matter. I live in my own little dictatorship for now. What is your favorite piece that you have written? And why? Actually it’s an unpublished poem titled Ours. Perhaps it’s my favorite because I just wrote it. If you ask me in a month, I’m sure my answer the talk - page 103

would change. In essence, I prefer the poems that are responses - as opposed to reactions - because they are made of subtler, more enduring energy. That makes it more timeless in terms of my relationship with it. The reactionary poems are usually in the bin or counteracted with objective poems free of polarities. the talk - page 104
Does travelling influence your work? What is your favorite city? Yes, but only because of the people I encounter. There’s something grand about connecting with others from different races, religions and ideals. It helps us tap further into the paradigm of oneness. I don’t have a favorite city. Not yet. Odd but true. For now, at least.

What challenges have you faced in your career? The phantom known as censorship haunts, taunts me. It’s the biggest challenge for sure. on our sensitive egos, collectively. It’s a shame that we can’t have a laugh at our own expense, let alone allow others to make fun of us. It’s as though we have become willing prisoners of our labels. Everything is transient, for that matter. This is not just a reminder.
What are you working on now? A third book of poems. I also have a new poetry video coming out soon. This video has taken quite a while to leave the dock, but I got the motor running this week. Elated... But you can stay up to date with my work by visiting my website: www. nejoudalyagout.com

Architecture & Design - Interview
What is Collective Office? Collective Office is a multi-disciplinary design practice that seeks to merge various visual communication vehicles to achieve client-specific experiences for people. We blend design strategy, architecture, and interior details to create experientially focused solutions for clients. What does Design strategy mean to you? It is an umbrella term that includes architecture, interior architecture, and interior design. Then there is branding and graphic representation that also lend themselves to the design process. It all depends on where you want to direct a project, in terms of introducing the process and how the pieces begin to merge, in a way that can be presented to the client. Why did Collective Office Start? We began out of a need to design more than 20 years ago. The practice is a product of thinking on the talk - page 112
a larger scale. It was established as a succession plan, which explains why my name is not on the board. It is not about the one but about the many. It is about a larger group, a greater collective. We have restarted several times, with and without breaks. Who is Collective Office? We are currently a group of architects and designers, people who prototype and fabricate, project managers and contractors, and clients all working together, at different points over the course of each project, with the same goal. What inspired the name, Collective Office? No single person makes a project. All projects require teams, and all teams require different ways of thinking, as well as a variety of methods of approaching a solution in concert. The name was inspired by the collaborative nature of the field of architecture.
Who does Collective Office target, as a client? We only target projects where we can create a space that we, ourselves, would want to occupy. We are not interested in making experimental spaces that even we would not use and love. Our current goal is to be more specific with who we go after. We are fortunate to have our current clients, but would like to simultaneously continue todefine who our new clients would be. Currently, our focus has been in commercial projects, while we also work on a manifesto that describes how Collective Office operates, which, in return, should help us to find new clients. What is your favorite aspect of the process of seeing a project develop? Freedom. You set the boundaries to the project as you make the process. It is as if you are working in your own sandbox every day, creating the situations that enableprojects to happen, and then creating details that people will eventually engage. the talk - page 113
Architecture & Design - Interview
What is the biggest difficulty, for you personally, in owning a professional practice? Finding the right collaborators, as well as finding appropriate clients. Do you have any words of advice for someone with the desire to start their own firm? It is important to specialize in the field of architecture and start your practice the same way you would want to end your practice. You have to be relentless and never take no for an answer. If not, then you will have either proven yourself to be unprepared or simply out-negotiated. What are your thoughts on contemporary architecture in the Middle East? The current movement seems to be yielding productbased design, where architects design sculptures that plug into a larger master plan. But where is the culture, society, and identity? And what does it want to be 25 years from now? Is the entire effort a status symbol or a power play? What are your thoughts on the currents state of architecture? Exciting, but worrisome. Exciting because of how connected the practice is, and how self-aware it is of its actions and breadth. Worrisome, though, because what is happening is coming without oversight or criticism, which in my opinion is occurring at scales that are regional, or even national. Why do you wear colorful socks? Architects are so bland. An old friend of mine coined the term “Black Cloth Ninja Architect,” which I have always been separated from. I started wearing crazy socks to give myself an identity, and now people always buy me more socks. It’s one of those easy gifts for Jeff.

Tell us a more about you and what you do? Abdulrahman Bader Al-Essa, an avid traveler that loves to explore the unknown. A nomad that lives between trips and lives for the thrill of it. After years of exploring the world, I still find myself at the beginning of my journey and ready to explore every piece of this planet. It started out as a hobby that literally shook my life in all the right ways, and now it’s something I’m proud to call my small little project. I’ve found pleasure in fulfilling people’s dreams, while still giving back to society and making a difference. What inspired you to take this journey? Exploring new places has always been a passion of mine. Even when I was younger and was supposed to go on the long family trips every summer to Switzerland, I always managed to add some of my own flavor of adventure. I used to go on hikes the talk - page 120
and wander, trying to explore new cities with my cousins and siblings. After several successful attempts of creating my own adventurous trips to exotic destinations such as Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Iceland, people started asking me to build itineraries for their own trips. I finally decided to create official organized trips and the first two adventures were to the magical land of Iceland which I co-guided with a fellow traveler. The element of giving back was also present in our adventure and we made sure the children with cancer charity in Kuwait was involved all the proceeds of my first introductory trip went for that cause. What do your friends and family think of what you’re doing? Are they supportive? My friends and family have always been and always will be my backbone in every endeavor. They’ve supported me and felt proud of my work and efforts in creating my dreams
and other people’s dreams too. I’ve had phone-calls from friends who have congratulated me on actually taking such a public and strong presence in a very saturated market that has all the services needed and wanted. The love and support I got was inevitable, since I was already encouraged and asked from them to work on my passion and make something big out of it. There are more major projects and adventures to come, and I am certain that all of my family and friends will always be supportive and proud of the work I produce. Why have you chosen Iceland to be the destination for your trip? Iceland was the first destination I officially arranged as an organized adventure with my co-guide. We specifically chose Iceland for its magical nature and infamous rich culture and of course for the love of the outdoors. The first adventure had to be a major boom and had to make an everlasting first impression on every traveler and spectator alike. Experiencing the northern lights is on every person’s bucket list, amongst other impressive phenomena’s such as the natural lagoons. The idea was that every trip would have an adventure to a different destination; however Iceland made me break the rule because of the surge of people that wanted to do it. Explain to us what percentage of the proceeds of the trip goes to charity. The idea was that every other adventure and trip would involve a different charity that would benefit from my help in any way possible. The proceeds for each charity on every trip depend on the amount of participants and the trip expenses. Therefore, based on that, the charity gets what we offer them as a little form of appreciation and support of their efforts. What has been the best part of it all? The whole experience is so rewarding and pleasurable. Whether it’s meeting new friends and broadening your travel circles or actually taking them on the trip of a lifetime. Seeing people’s faces and the amount of joy I add to their lives, brightens my day every day. We all go on trips and are capable of traveling anywhere we want and need. However, we don’t know how to enjoy our time and make use of every single thing we come across. A lot of the people I interviewed during the process of accepting for the trips, showed interest in going out of the norm and breaking the usual routine lifestyle. Being able to help them fulfill their dreams, go to the extremes and explore amazing new destinations made me ecstatic.
the talk - page 121
Life Style - Interview
What is your favorite country that you visited? And why? I truly believe that every destination I’ve been to has its own magic and special element to it that I will never forget. However, Zimbabwe might be one of the most phenomenal places I’ve ever been to in my life. This African country has such a rich culture- their people are full of life and color, they exude happiness and contentment. I’ve never been in such awe by any nature’s beauty until I saw the nature in Zimbabwe. The people had so little, yet they were so content in what they had. Going there gave my life a whole new understanding and makes you reevaluate anything you do in your daily life. What’s the next step for you? I might create my own blog and write down my experiences from every trip. I will hopefully create a database that will benefit the general public and feed to their knowledge and experience in travel but I still will continue creating organized trips to different destinations. Where do you see yourself in the upcoming 5 years? Globe-trotting but hopefully still be able to make a difference in people’s lives. Owning my own traveling agency but with a twist- an agency that caters to all aspects of travel from the language learnt to the actual tour needed. An agency that poses as a head-quarter to any traveler that wants to learn a new language or experience a new hobby in different countries. I will definitely still be organizing trips, and creating journeys for people and maybe even contributing to international charities outside Kuwait.

Q at The Yard the dining place to be
Whether it’s the indie themed interior or the ever-sowelcoming staff members, Q at The Yard is a place where you can sit for hours with a smile on your face and nothing but positive thoughts in your mind. Three years ago, this trendy spot opened in Kuwait. Since then, Q at The Yard has become one of the most popular places to visit. The venue is a restaurant with an integrated retail space, named The Yard. The Yard is a Kuwait-based concept store with online presence (www.theyard-kw.com) since 2010. From the lights that decorate the wall to the lights that are hanging from the ceiling, it’s remarkable to sit and reflect on what an efficient job the owners, Dana Behbehani and Alaa Ali Reda, have done with a small space – it’s compact but not packed, stylish but not disturbing to the eye, not to mention the music that fits perfectly with the atmosphere. Upon arriving, Q’s Beetroot Orange juice was a winning drink. The radiant colors of the drink are intriguing enough to try it. As soon as you take the first sip, you realize this is the drink to have and it shortly becomes a favorite! There are many different types of salads that Q at The Yard is famous for, but to name a few are the Apple Salad, the Quinoa Salad with shrimps and the Arugula & Thyme Salad. The Apple Salad was a combination of lettuce, green apples, parmesan, and pickled onions served with a vinaigrette dressing. You can also add some sautéed bacon for that extra taste. the talk - page 125

The Quinoa Salad with shrimps had one of the most distinctive tastes of any quinoa salad we have ever tried! It was made using grilled shrimps, fresh pomegranate, dried coconut flakes, and served with a dill-orange dressing. The coconut gives it a fresh, vibrant taste that you don’t usually get when having any other salad. Both salads had unique and delicious flavors, but the Arugula & Thyme Salad was our favorite- It was filled with the right amount of sourness from the sumac and lemon vinagrette dressing, and just the right amount of sweetness from the touch of fresh pomegranate that complimented the flavors well. For our main course, we tried the Beef Parmesan, served with spaghetti pomordo and basil. The parmesan-breaded beef was both tasty and fresh that we wanted more with every bite we took- it was the dish to beat! Our second main course dish was the Mustard Striploin, which is a plate of grilled Golden Angus Beef Striploin skewers with a mustard marinade, served with your choice of potato. Let me just say, for all the Angus beef lovers out there, this is definitely the dish to order. The beef itself was exceptionally tender and flavorful with the perfect amount of seasoning. It was astounding how everything we tasted was super fresh, appetizing and clean! the talk - page 126
Q at The Yard serves many different types of foods, from your standard breakfast meals to more exquisite breakfast options to the different cuisines that one can orded for lunch. They also have mouth-watering desserts that are the perfectraddition to a cup of coffee. The wide variety of selection that one can choose from makes Q at The Yard
a suitable option for all, including the picky eaters out there. With regards to the pricing, it is very reasonable and not only will you get your money’s worth but you’ll come back for more. Dodge Charger Receives ALG’s 2016 Residual Value Award
the talk - page 140
For the second year in a row, the Dodge Charger has earned the prestigious Residual Value Award in the “Full-size Car” category from ALG, the industry benchmark for residual values and depreciation data. For Dodge, it’s not enough to design and engineer the 2016 Charger as the quickest, fastest and most powerful sedan in the world. Instead, Dodge continues to build on the brand’s promise and deliver a lineup of Charger models with worldclass power, efficiency, technology, authentic materials and standout styling - all to make America’s only four-door muscle car one of the hottest and most desirable sedans available today. “Striking a delicate balance between traditional sedan and muscle car, the Dodge Charger represents shifting trends in the full-size segment,” said Eric Lyman, Vice President of Industry Insights for ALG. “A wide range of powertrain and comfort features ensures there is a perfect Charger for every personality, from cruising in style to tearing up the Roods.” ALG recognises 26 vehicles with segment awards, along with two brands representing the mainstream and premium sectors of the industry. This year’s awards are based on 2016 model-year vehicles. Award winners are determined through careful study of the competition in each segment, historical vehicle performance and industry trends. Vehicle quality, production levels relative to demand and pricing and marketing strategies represent key factors that impact ALG’s residual value forecasts. “The back-to-back ALG Residual Value Award is a testament to the entire Dodge team’s commitment to designing and engineering America’s most exciting performance sedan,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands - Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA - North America. “This accolade also reinforces our position that customers want unique vehicles like the Dodge Charger, performance vehicles that break the pattern from other sedans on the road.”
The Dodge Charger lineup - available now at all MBMC showrooms in Kuwait - offers extensive performance-driven powertrains, the latest technology under the hood and behind the wheel, which builds on the brand’s promise to deliver American performance machines with world-class power, efficiency, technology, authentic materials and standout styling. “The innovative TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on every Dodge Charger model, from the SE right through to the SRT Hellcat,” said Maher Abu-Shaaban, Assistant General Manager - Sales and Marketing of Al Mulla & Behbehani Motor Co. (MBMC), the sole distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram and Mopar® in Kuwait. “There’s also a full range of fuel-efficient and powerful engine options, including the awardwinning 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar engine, which delivers fuel economy of up to 7.58 L/100km on SE and SXT models; the legendary 370 hp 5.7-litre HEMI® V8 on the R/T; 6.4-litre HEMI V8, which punches out a best-in-class, naturally aspirated 485 hp and 475 lb.-ft. of torque in the SRT 392 and R/T Scat Pack models and 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8 engine for ultimate performance with 707 hp, 650 lb.-ft. of torque, top speed of 328 kmh and 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, making it the quickest, fastest and most powerful sedan in the world.” the talk - page 141

MINI achieves another incredible Dakar result Seven MINI ALL4 Racing complete the most gruelling cross-country rally within top fifteen. Mikko Hirvonen and Harry Hunt excel in their first experience of the Dakar Rally with Hirvonen clinching the Best Rookie title in the car category. Once again the MINI brand celebrates success at the Dakar Rally with Al- Attiyah (QAT) and copilot Mathieu Baumel (FRA) completing the 38th edition of the Dakar Rally as best placed all-wheel drive car. The provisional general ranking results show Stéphane Peterhansel as the quickest man overall in category and congratulations are extended to Peugeot. In the meantime, AXION X-raid Team driver Al-Attiyah is listed as finishing with a hard fought second. The result of an ongoing race appeal will determine the full and official result. Al-Attiyah and Baumel drove a superb 9000km race in the #300 MINI ALL4 Racing to win the battle of the 4x4 vehicles, in particular against the talk - page 142
a determined effort by Toyota. Two stage wins by the Al-Attiyah / Baumel pairing ensured the outcome would be a MINI ALL4 Racing at the front of the pack. Nasser: “To finish on the podium was really nice but I believe in myself to come back in 2017 and win again. I think it was possible to win without our one mistake, but this is Dakar - a two-week race – and everybody can make mistake; most of the best drivers make a mistake but we finished on the podium.” The famed reliability and performance of the MINI ALL4 Racing went hand in hand with the determination of all the MINI ALL4 Racing family to achieve an incredible result of four MINI ALL Racing positioned within the top ten finishers – a result in itself and rubberstamped by the fact seven MINI ALL4 Racing completed Dakar within the top 15.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be anything you want to be! It helps to have a clear mental picture of what you want before you set out to get it. Love has a way of finding you and the playful way you approach romance has potential flames waiting in line just to be close to you. You’ve got an idea to keep things all to yourself but life is so much better when it’s shared. Open your heart. And your mind. And be amazed at what follows!
Breakups with lovers and battles with friends may be happening, but there are better times ahead. When you finally come through the other side, you’ll know when to give in and give up, and whether what you have is worth fighting for. Your friendly attitude makes others feel really comfortable sharing the details of their lives with you, so you might be the unwitting recipient of some juicy gossip. Keep it to yourself.
The more mysterious someone or something is, the more you want to know about him, her, or it! Your curiosity is insatiable, and you won’t stop until you solve the puzzle. Detailed tasks at work take longer than you’d like them to, but trying to go around the red tape instead of cutting through it will only prolong with inevitable. Keep your head down until you get it right.
Libra (Sept. 24-Oct. 23)
Scorpio (Oct. 24-Nov. 22)
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 21)
You love to travel, and if booking a room or tickets on a budget is the only way you can get there, you’ll gladly do it. There’s an intellectual vibe going on between you and someone you meet through work or school, and even if you’re committed to other people the chemistry is hard to deny. Morality, manners and civility all still matter, though, so be sure to end one thing before you start another.
Can you feel that? Your magnetic power is obvious to everyone else, so you must be able to detect it, too. You go after your goals with intensity, and authority figures have a hard time saying no to you. If you aim anywhere near the target, you’ll hit it. If you’re going to sign something, you’re going to read every word of it. Possibly twice. A lot of private information could come out, but how you deal with it will make all the difference..
There are a lot of unforeseen road blocks in your way but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Enjoy the different scenery as you figure out new shortcuts to take. Intuition is a valuable commodity, and you’re in control of it on these days. Don’t trade it for anything. If getting the last word in is important to you, then don’t disagree with anyone who debates or argues for a living.

When a helping hand is extended to you, take it without seeing who’s reaching out to you, because there aren’t likely to be strings attached to this favor. You’re able to see things in a totally new light and now that one of your views has changed, you might want to go back and rethink all of your other stances. Prioritize your todo list, and then attack the items on it one by one. And don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it!
You want to move beyond the rest of the pack so badly but you keep falling further and further behind. What does it take to get ahead? You really aren’t sure, but you’d do just about anything in order to figure it out. Let’s face it -when things get messy for you Virgos, you can barely function until everything’s back in its tidy little place. You can’t make a decision to save your life but that’s what you have BFFs for. They’re more than willing to give you their honest opinions, and then some.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 23) Throughout this month and especially during the first half, you are dealing with financial and home related battles and arguments. Then during the second half of the month, you start finding some awesome sales and bargains. The financial problems do not go away completely, but you do find ways to work around them and to spread plenty of love over the holidays.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
Aquarius (Jan. 21-Feb. 19)
Pisces (Feb. 20-Mar. 20)
It’s the month you finally receive the award or the verbal kudos you’ve been waiting for. You love to get called out for your positive work, and there’s nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments. You may run into a conflict of interest, but when it is necessary for you to choose between two very difficult options- do you go with your head or your heart?
When you explore your personal connections, you discover just how far-reaching your social network is. Use your amazing amount of contacts to gain an advantage over your competitors. Your chill vibe puts a first date or new co-worker at ease on, and you approach most things with a laid-back, relaxed manner. Charity work calls to you, and you spend a lot of your time volunteering. If you can make one person’s life better in some way, you feel socially useful.
You might not be the leader of a newly formed group on, but you’re definitely a valued member. Your good deeds don’t go unnoticed so when someone goes out of his or her way to thank you, it can be flattering and embarrassing at the same time. You have a lot of trouble making up your mind, but what else is new!? Give it time, and everything will fall into place.
