letter/ Hello there. Welcome to the third month of the year dear fashionable ones. Life does give us many chances to start over again, so here’s a fun fact for you; according to the oldest Roman calendars, one year was ten months long, starting with March through December; so in a sense you can make this a chance to start over and catch up with your resolutions of the year! Yes, we’ve always got your back. There’s much to celebrate this month. Spring Summer 18 collections are here; the weather is beginning to warm up ever so gently; and it’s the month to celebrate “motherhood”. How excited are we? Ecstatic! Lots of trends to keep up with, beautiful daughters joining in on the fun with gorgeous mothers. Playing dress up, stylishly inviting a young one into your lives, celebrating that baby bump, it’s all covered in this issue, along with solutions for bad hair days, and making a statement with nail art. As Mother’s Day approaches, gifting has never been easier. We’re loving Van Cleef & Arpel’s latest jewelry and watch collection. Buy your mother something special and surprise her with flowers, remember, mommy knows and deserves the best. We had the pleasure to interview an artistically driven woman; our cover girl is an inspiration; from entering the music business, following her dreams to diving into her business ventures. Wonder women really do exist. We proudly take a moment to pay homage to mothers everywhere, celebrating and acknowledging their strength, love, sacrifices and role in shaping our society and our future. Viva Mothers!

Till next time, The Talk Team

Mommy & Me What’s cuter than sighting a mom strutting with her children, but wait for it, in identical outfits! Very Instagram-able don’t you think?

the talk - page 18

Call it a trend, tradition, or just something we’re used to seeing in advertisements. The trend of twinning with your child is on the rise and over the past few years we’ve been witnessing it more and more, and surely, we’re loving it. Matching Givenchy t-shirts? Yes! Matching Dolce & Gabbana dresses? Yes, please! We’re not telling you to add blonde streaks to your daughter’s hair, there still are some rules to be kept in mind with this trend. As cute as it sounds, it can go awfully wrong. For starters, don’t overdo it! Eid outfits, birthday parties, special family outings, these are all events where dressing up the same is considered cute. Doing it on a daily basis? Not cute. Dressing your daughter in couture at 4. Seriously, not cute. Don’t be afraid to play around with dresses and casual clothing, jeans and flannels are always a cute outfit choice. the talk - page 19

Coming Soon! Gushing over cute baby shoes and pregnancy dresses, are you? Don’t these adorable styles make you go aww and all soft inside? It’s all well and good when you are admiring them pre-pregnancy, but when it’s your turn, it’s as if magically there isn’t a piece of clothing made just right for you, and the raging hormones and crying fits don’t make it easier. Let’s take it one step at a time starting with the baby bump. Don’t be too shy to show it off! You are ever more beautiful and have every reason to feel so. Tight tops sure are the cutest on pregnant women, however, don’t go too tight as you might be giving yourself a reason to rage again. During summertime go for short flowy dresses. They’re comfortable, breezy, and will compliment your body. Try to stray away from jeans and tight trousers especially during the last trimester, stay as comfortable as you can, of course stylishly. There’s no reason why you can’t play dress up when pregnant. Enjoy the magical experience with some style!

Tory Burch Collection Spring/Summer 2018 “Bold. Audacious. Brilliant. David Hicks redefined interiors. His fearless and witty take on color and print, and his exquisite attention to detail, have made a lasting impression on me. For Spring/Summer 2018, we are honored to work with the legendary designer’s original scrapbooks, given to us by his son. Immeasurable thanks to Ashley Hicks for this collaboration.” — Tory Burch

Silhouettes: Relaxed shapes capture the season’s effortless vibe. Slouchy, wide-legged pants, bohemian caftans and a wrap dress cut from scarves balance preppy shirts and a classic trench for a collection that is feminine and familiar, modern and easy. Palette: Understated neutrals— crisp white, soft stone and toffee— juxtapose joyful bursts of color— poppy red, tangerine and mustard yellow—complemented by leaf green and muted shades of pink and chambray. Prints & Patterns: A bold mix of prints and patterns from Hicks (or inspired by his work), including kaleidoscopic and geometric motifs as well as stripes in different iterations and scales. An iris print references Hicks’ love of gardens and a Moroccan-inspired pattern pays homage to his global influences. Fabrications: Draped silk, cashmere and soft crepe set a laid-back tone

underscored by designs crafted from terry beach towels and accessories in natural vachetta. Lace framing on silk and contrast boarders on cotton draw on interior design concepts, while sequins, laser-cut elements and fine metal embellishments add dimension and texture in unexpected ways. Graphic buttons and hardware add a signature touch. Accessories: The focus is on easy, casual pieces, from pool slides and flat mules made of simple strings of leather to cross body bags with graphic charms and oversized totes in terry toweling. The season’s geometric motifs carry through to the jewelry, including whimsical pendant necklaces, cuffs, earrings and signet rings.

Stuart Weitzman Celebrates a Fashion Milestone With the 25th Anniversary of Its Iconic 5050 Stretch Boot Design Stuart Weitzman celebrates the 25th anniversary of the 5050 boot — the signature design that revolutionized the footwear industry with its innovative use of stretch in boot construction. The now-iconic style derived its name from the mixed-media combination of half-micro stretch and half-leather/suede. Coveted by Hollywood A-listers, this legendary style has garnered a cult-like following amongst global trendsetters and tastemakers, and headlines as the must-have boot season after season.

the talk - page 28

The 5050, first introduced in 1993, is the original back-stretch boot - a design pioneered by Stuart Weitzman. The category has since expanded to include a variety of half-micro stretch and half-leather/suede boots in different heel heights, like the popular RESERVE with a 1 ž-inch block heel. Each style is distinguished by the instantly identifiable stretch detail, seamlessly integrated into the back shaft, which results in a universally flattering fit. For the anniversary season, Stuart Weitzman pays tribute to its iconic half-micro stretch and half-leather/ suede boot design by featuring the RESERVE on Kate Moss in the Spring 2018 advertising campaign. the talk - page 29

& Other Stories The Look of Now

Be seen in long and languid silhouettes set against crisp tailored pieces. Throw in a little color contrast for maximum impact. From day one, & Other Stories has never defined style as being right or wrong. Offering a broad variety in our collections and inspiration, from our design Ateliers in Paris, Stockholm and Los Angeles, has always been our guiding light. Around 2011 we had an idea for a beauty brand with a strong fashion connection, but kept returning to the importance of the whole look. Even though beauty was our starting point we eventually added everything from ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, stationery, jewellery and lingerie. It was an opportunity for us to create the one-stop styling destination we always dreamt of. We chose a name that would reflect our ideas and passion, a name that would help us transcend fashion by telling stories and came up with & Other Stories. It is an old way of saying short stories and the ‘&’ makes it easy to say something in connection to our brand, like ‘Regent Street & Other Stories’ or ‘Rodarte & Other Stories’. It is adaptable to every story we want to tell. Our customer is a woman with a love for fashion who creates her own style. She wears things that feel right to her and reflect her personality. We would like our collections to bring every woman joy, no matter her age, no matter her style. Female empowerment is a constant cornerstone at & Other Stories. We speak to women as individuals with the ambition to inspire and empower them rather than dictate how to dress. Personal style is all about diversity and telling a story of your own.

LOEWE Spring Summer 2018 The LOEWE Spring Summer 2018 Women’s collection is presented in a suite of white oval-shaped spaces, a reductionist backdrop against which especially commissioned, large-scale tapestries and miniature ceramic sculptures by artist Mo Jupp provide a cultural context and guide the eye through a precise interplay of scale and sinuous line.

the talk - page 42

A perfect union of craft, art and technology, the impressive tapestries feature vivid images from LOEWE’s forthcoming campaign —shot by Steven Meisel— as well as black-andwhite 19th and 20th century photographs, all carefully transposed —by means of advanced software— into thousands of threads before being woven into giant textiles by experts near Limoges, France. Recurring asymmetry, cutouts and form-accentuating elements sharpen a fluid silhouette, while hand embellishments add dimension and showcase a range of special artisanal techniques. Everyday fabrics are employed in extraordinary ways; jerseys are present and simulated, replicating the ease of a T-shirt in pieces that ingeniously elevate their casual inspiration. Crushed and crinkled surfaces lend a sense of depth, while padding enhances proportion and thought-out details help create movement; a fringed Spanish shawl becomes an abstract dress. The show also introduces two new shapes to join LOEWE’s iconic bags: The Gate, a modern take on a classic saddle carrier featuring a distinctive knot belt and brass hinge, in 2 sizes, and the unlined, reversible Tent bag, seen here in two signature house colors: Oro and Caramel. the talk - page 43

Max Mara SS18 Max Mara shares a spectacular view of the city; its landscape a living breathing entity, its mood swings restless, fleeting, transient, often unpredictable. But when the summer sun strikes, things are pretty certain to take a sybaritic turn. The smarter cosmopolites seek out discreetly luxurious oasis, shady patios and hidden gardens. Business and pleasure blur, with the promise of al fresco breakfast pow wows, sun-dappled working lunches and garden parties.

the talk - page 44

Max Mara Spring-Summer 2018 is a precisely calibrated wardrobe for the hedonistic citizens of this modern terrain. There’s lean tailoring in stone, black and white -sometimes executed in organza to reveal the inner workings in layers of transparency- as sharp as the midsummer play of sun and shadow on urban architecture. To complement the subdued elegance of those exclusive pit stops, a sand-onsand heritage logo motif, dating from the company’s early days, woven into a trench or printed onto a leather jacket. To echo the colors of those up-to-theminute parterres, this season’s musthave mauves and a street-smart take on florals; delicately painted sprays, as fresh as the evening dew. The trench coat re-emerges as a crisp linen spolverino and a sassy pencil skirt. There are natty little mannish coats and jeans jackets to wear with boy-cut pants, all designed with an eye to understated elegance. For a spot of drama, there are ankle grazing skirts: buckled kilts in gauzy linen for everyday, and for dressier moments, georgette, pleated and cut into strips that flutter seductively. Complete with soft outsize bags and sleek clutches in all the patterns and prints of the collection, and this season’s Iris sun- glasses, Max Mara’s latter-day flâneuses are perfectly accoutered to savor the summertime city’s delights. the talk - page 45

A|X ARMANI EXCHANGE Spring/Summer - 2018 The A|X Armani Exchange woman prefers spring/summer a look that is feminine and fresh. This season also contains influences from the world of sportswear, but in an active, casual style. Maxi-logo T-shirts, cropped or with slogans, combine with leggings belonging to a wardrobe that merges the world of athletics with that of leisure. The processing of the fabrics reinforces this crossover, that lies at the heart of the collection, or enriched with graphics and appliqué, and much use has been made of devoré. Color blocking, summer floral prints and designs inspired by murals, as well as fun contrasts, characterize the whole collection. Metallic shimmer, banding and piping are some of the details that define a silhouette that is young, bold and vibrant. Denim also features here, with the ever-present skinny jeans, as well as baggier styles, models with flared legs, and versions with dégradé washes.

Mother’s Day Reminiscing Growing up, most of us girls enjoyed watching our mothers get dressed up. One of our favorite parts was picking out the jewelry they would adorn before leaving the house. Another beautiful memory - picking out our very own special jewelry from mommy’s magical jewelry box before a big or special occasion. Remember how we would always be extra careful throughout the day because we knew that at the end of the day that piece of jewelry goes back into the special box. Daughters usually learn the value of things early on from their mothers; teaching your daughter the value of something is especially crucial in a materialistic world. The sentimental value of a moment or a piece of jewelry is an important lesson you will teach your baby girl; as that lesson will be about love, responsibility and most of all about heritage and family stories.

Sentimental much? More than a fashion accessory, jewelry has, for centuries, represented culture and family traditions. What’s better than a piece of jewelry passed down through generations! Has that sentiment been lost to the newer generations; we see an explosion of jewelry pieces, modern and futuristic, styles that do not even last half a decade. We are overcome with emotions and tears as we read stories of families with strong traditional values in novels and watch movies that visualize the same, we get sentimental and romantic as we witness the unfolding of a secret behind a piece of jewelry. Why not be the ones to ignite that sentiment in the future generation once again? The elder generation sure did follow that, you recognize their family heirlooms and vintage jewelry. While each piece tells a story, the one wearing it feels particularly attached to this piece of jewelry because of its sentimental value. It’s never too late. Pass down your favorite piece of jewelry to your daughter or son or a loved one, and start this tradition for yourselves.

Boucheron PLUME DE PAON A true aesthete, Fréderic Boucheron was fascinated by the beauties of nature. He loved the wild and always interpreted it free and triumphant. One of these wonders of nature, the peacock’s feather, soon became one of the jeweler’s inspirations. He reinvented it constantly to create even more striking pieces. In 2018, new Jewelry and High Jewelry designs join the Plume de Paon collection. Even more organic, Plume de Paon designs sit lightly on the body, sensuously shadowing a woman’s curves to form a perfect match. Boucheron surprises with a pair of ear clips in diamonds and white gold end that rises daringly along the ear. It has just as much femininity as the rings made by the workshops, running over two fingers and merging with the skin. The Plume de Paon pendant sits lightly on the cleavage while the lapis lazuli and topaz necklaces are worn like glamorous regalia.

Van Cleef & Arpels Frivole On March 20, Van Cleef & Arpels will celebrate the coming of spring with a bloom of graphic flowers. Nine brand new creations in yellow gold seem to quiver in the breeze, enriching the FrivoleTM collection with their combination of miniature motifs and generous flowers, mirror polishing and dazzling paved surfaces. The shimmering radiance of their corollas illuminates the skin, in homage to a season that the Maison holds dear.

the talk - page 62

This year, the Frivole collection takes on a new feminine aesthetic, with an association of three miniature motifs. Recognizable for their heart-shaped petals, the floral bouquets adorn the neck and face with delicate overtones. These new creations pay tribute to the vitality of nature and its random character, here reflected in the composition of the designs. Inspired by the central motif of the 8- flower Frivole ring, the 3- flower aesthetic creates an impression of delicacy and lightness, magnified by characteristic attention to detail. From a heart-shaped ear clip system to setting that highlights the sparkle of diamonds, the art of jewelers and stone-setters finds elegant expression within the Frivole collection.

A watch for a good cause One-of-a-kind timepiece from A. Lange & Söhne auctioned off The 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange” in stainless steel with black enamel dial is on the auction block. The auction house Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo will auction off the extraordinary piece at the weekend of 12 and 13 May 2018. The resulting sale price will be donated to the Children Action Foundation. The 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange” Only one 1815 “Homage to Walter Lange” with black enamel dial and 40.5-millimetre steel case will be made, making it as extraordinary as the man whose name it bears. The classic dial design, reduced to only the essentials, is complemented by a stoppable jumping second hand. Walter Lange had a particular affinity for this complication because it traces its origins back to an invention of his great-grandfather Ferdinand Adolph Lange from 1867. A further-developed form was registered as one of the first patents in Germany in the year 1877. the talk - page 66

Lange 1 Daymatic for boutique birthday The A. Lange & Söhne Boutique in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district was inaugurated ten years ago. A limited edition of the Lange 1 Daymatic with guilloched dial celebrates the occasion. Since 2010, the Lange 1 Daymatic is the automatic mirror image of the Lange 1, the best known watch of the Saxon manufactory. Now, the timepiece with the retrograde day-of-week indication is launched in a limited white-gold edition of 20 pieces. The numerals of the outsize date display and the inscriptions on the dial are printed in blue to match the hue of the hands and result in a harmonious overall appearance. The consistent color concept continues in a dark-blue alligator leather strap with solid white-gold prong buckle. The white-gold case with a diameter of 39.5 millimetres houses the self-winding calibre L021.1. Its heavy central rotor embossed with the A. Lange & Söhne signature and equipped with a platinum centrifugal mass on the outer rim assures efficient winding. When fully wound, a power reserve of 50 hours is available. The engraving of the limited edition number makes each of the 20 timepieces an unmistakable and unique work of art. the talk - page 67

Van Cleef & Arpels Cosmos Secret watch Faithful to the Maison’s heritage, Cosmos creations draw inspiration from one of Van Cleef & Arpels’ signature flowers, born in the 1950s. With a diamond dial hidden in its heart, the repetitive Cosmos Secret watch illustrates the Maison’s characteristic quest for movement, along with the excellence of its savoir-faire. The corolla seems freshly bloomed, thanks to its three-dimensional volume and inclined petals. Subtle variations in size, shape and orientation mark each one out from its pairs, creating an asymmetry that brings the piece to life. To magnify its brilliance, the petals are covered with diamonds using the technique of serti-neige style setting: thanks to careful stone positioning, up to eighteen different diameters of stone can occupy the same surface. They are held in place by beaded grain setting, which adorns the metal like delicate drops of dew. This secret watch can also be worn as a clip, on elegant pink gold foliage set with diamonds.

Primerose Secrète watch A new bloom in Le Jardin Van Cleef & Arpels, this hollyhock is paved with white diamonds and pink sapphires of different shades, in homage to youth and femininity. Chosen for its clarity and brilliance, each stone is carefully set on the petals, which reproduce the convex volume of a genuine flower. The secret dial is revealed thanks to an ingenious mechanism, whereby pressing one of the petals opens up the heart. Well-suited to metamorphoses, the watch may also be worn as a clip, fitted to a mount that combines yellow and white volutes with the sparkle of diamonds.

the talk - page 68

Marguerite Secrète watch Light and spring-like, daisies have blossomed in the Maison’s creations since the 1920s. This year, the flower blooms anew as a guardian of time, preserving the hours beneath a heart of yellow sapphires. When raised, the latter reveals a diamond dial that echoes the sparkle of the petals. Their finely arced silhouettes combine a precious touch with the natural appearance of a real flower, burgeoning in the sunlight. In keeping with the Maison’s tradition of transformable creations, the watch becomes a clip by assuming the central place in foliage of yellow gold, carved using ancestral goldsmith’s techniques. Midnight Heure d’Ici & Heure d’Ailleurs watch A masculine take on travel The voyage between heaven and earth continues with the Midnight Heure d’Ici & Heure d’Ailleurs watch – a new addition to Van Cleef & Arpels’ masculine range. Equipped with the Maison’s own dual time zone movement, it offers an understated and poetic interpretation of time, suspended between two horizons. Reading the hours becomes an invitation to travel, like a window open on the world. Purity and balance With its new Midnight case, the Heure d’Ici & Heure d’Ailleurs watch revisits Van Cleef & Arpels’ vision of masculine elegance. Its slender bezel and horns provide the frame for a generously proportioned dial. In a unique design, the case and hour markers – in satin- finished and polished pink gold – harmonize with the black of the dial, embellished with a stamped sun motif. The pure lines complement an asymmetric decor, in which the cursive letters of the watch’s name pay tribute to the poetry of words. In an extra touch of refinement, a single crown is used both to wind the movement and to set the dual time zones and minutes.

Lady Arpels™ Planétarium Poetic Complications watch A feminine vision of the cosmos Four years after unveiling the Midnight PlanétariumTM watch, Van Cleef & Arpels is restyling this iconic creation, offering an original women’s edition to enrich the universe of Poetic Astronomy. Distinguished both by refined aesthetics and its automatic movement, developed exclusively for the Maison, the Lady Arpels Planétarium watch illustrates the Sun and the closest planets: Mercury, Venus and finally Earth, along with its natural satellite, the Moon. Each heavenly body moves at its actual speed, orbiting the dial in 88 days for Mercury, 224 days for Venus and 365 days for Earth. In a key innovation for this piece, the Moon itself rotates around the Earth in 29.5 days, performing a visible celestial ballet on the dial, day after day. The choice of planets, imbued with feminine symbolism in the case of Venus and the Moon, goes hand in hand with craftsmanship to adapt the dimensions of the timepiece to a woman’s wrist. The Lady Arpels case, 38mm in diameter and set with diamonds in the bezel and sides of the case, houses a movement redesigned for this smaller size, with an exclusive module developed in collaboration with Christiaan van der Klaauw. The dial enriches the planetary spectacle with a shooting star in rhodium-plated gold, showing the time with poetic grace. On the back of the watch, two apertures display the day, month and year, all surrounded by an enchanting decor.

Braid it! One of the top trends we’re loving and seeing all over the runways and Instagram are braids. From Dutch braids, single braids, colorful braids, or even cornrow braids as seen on Kim Kardashian. How to style your hair? It all depends on your hair length, color, and occasion. We’re loving the different hairstyles we could play around with from double bun braids, crown braids, waterfall twist, pigtails, milkmaid braids, boho braids, the list goes on! For highlighted hair go for double Dutch braids that show off your hair color. For others, go for a crown braid or small braids mixed in with wavy hair. Hair not thick enough? A lot of extension brands offer pre-ready braided hair extensions. Just clip them in the way you want them styled and you’re good to go.

Bye-bye plain old manicures, hello nail art! Ah the pleasure of entering a nail spa/salon and oh the dilemma of settling for what color nail polish you want, one of the hardest decisions right! For hair you usually pre-plan the color and have a bunch of pictures to show the hair colorist. However, when it comes to your fresh manicure you pick up five shades and end up not liking any of them. If you’re anything like us then you will love these five shades, though they can look identical to someone who isn’t a manicure fanatic. Well, it’s time to change it up for our next mani-pedi appointment. We’re going all out nail art! It can be anything from a fancy french style with gold tips instead of white, to crystalizing a whole nail. It’s up to you and your preference. But remember, stay away from over-accessorizing your nails if you’re high maintenance. We don’t want you hovering down on the office floor looking for that missing Swarovski crystal from your pinky nail.

Amo Ferragamo

Salvatore Ferragamo’s new fragrance is a concentration of modern femininity. “Amo” – Italian for “I love” – is the declaration of a down-to-earth, free-spirited young woman who is ready to seize every opportunity that the world has to offer, and leave her mark. This is a woman who acts instinctively, dares, seduces. Inevitably, then, she says out loud: Amo Ferragamo! I love Ferragamo! Amo Ferragamo is a daring, modern accord of glamour and passion. The fragrance opens with an explosive personality: the top notes are marked by an Italian Bitter Accord with Blackcurrant and Rosemary. The heart is light and feminine as a flower where Jasmine Sambac melts with the brightness of Mate Absolute and Rhubarb. The dry down finishes with a woody sweetness. The unique sensuality of Amo Ferragamo stems from its delicate blend of White Vanilla Tahitensis Absolute, Ambrox and Sandalwood.

Diptyque’s Fragrances

Celebrate its 50th Anniversary with TEMPO & FLEUR DE PEAU Tempo and Fleur de Peau, the latest works of art by Diptyque, are not only new and completely modern, they’re also reverent nods to their big sister, L’Eau, to her historic birth year, 1968… Tempo, written for Diptyque by its long-time friend, the perfumer Olivier Pescheux, revisits the patchouli theme, but (of course) refining it to reveal its most exquisite beauty and artfully combining three different extractions, each from a sustainable supply chain managed by Givaudan on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. A persistent vibration, like an ongoing echo of a musical wake. A bit of moist earth deep within a primitive forest, amidst a fray of ferns, beneath the towering teak trees, laced in the mysterious shadows of the ancient endemic tribes that still live there. They call it Nilam. Powerful pinnacles of remarkably pure woody notes (softened by a maté absolute) almost camphoric, edged in green (bolstered by violet leaves). Leading to the slightest impression of wild cocoa beans. It resists and embellishes all that chimes in. Pink peppercorns, bergamot and fresh jasmine add peps and color. FLEUR DE PEAU The smell of skin: the smell of musk. Sometimes natural (imported from Tibet where it is still available), but usually synthetic, the most beloved smell that echoes (almost to a tee) that of lovers’ bodies: navel, back of the knee, palm of the hand. That which, on an olfactory level, is rather akin to the soft, surprising scent of the fringed nubuck vests young bare-chested men used to wear. No doubt the three founders of Diptyque were above all visual, tactile artists, so their approach to making fragrances is as visual and tangible as it is ethereal – inviting you to discover the invisible. Each raw material is like a dab of paint on the artist’

palette, like the memory of a place, a landscape, a time. The illustrations on the bottles are of utmost importance to each narration. For TEMPO, it’s the vision of a shaman (referred to as a guru in India) communicating ritually with the forest where patchouli was born, where animals and spirits live freely. For Fleur de Peau, the illustrator was inspired by the word psychedelic, rooted in an ancient Greek myth in which an incomparably gorgeous princess falls madly in love with Aphrodite’s son. He sneaks out at night to meet with her. She wraps herself around him in her dreams. the talk - page 81

Why did you choose this specialty? The subject and specialty of Cardiology is not only interesting, it is challenging and rewarding as well. Across the world, heart diseases are affecting a large section of population and that too at their prime age. A timely intervention in the form of preventive management is the backbone of the therapeutic approach. Besides the management of the risk factors, the art of diagnostic tools are so appropriate in stratifying severity of the disease that an appropriate management plan can be drawn to a very high accuracy. The therapeutic intervention has become an art of state tool and it yields very satisfactory results. All these aspects of cardiology make this field very interesting. What was the most interesting procedure you performed in your career? While in the field of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, we perform a wide variety of procedures. Besides routine procedures, the challenging are the ones we do during emergency situations, like placing a Pacemaker in cases of heart blocks, removal of fluid from heart called pericardiocentesis, performing thrombolysis to dissolve the clot in cases of heart attacks, then taking patients for angioplasty to open the blocked artery are a few of them. Besides that, a whole lot of diagnostic procedures that we perform like cardiac stress test, stress echocardiography, ECG monitoring and BP monitoring etc. What kind of procedures do you perform here at Royale Hayat? At Royale Hayat Hospital, Department of Cardiology, we practice the clinical or preventive cardiology. Here we perform non-invasive procedures like ECG, Cardiac Stress Test, 2D Doppler echocardiography, stress Echocardiography, Ambulatory ECG monitoring, Ambulatory BP monitoring, Cardiac CT Angiography etc. In your field, what are the most common health issues in this region? As is happening around the world, Kuwaiti population is not much different. What is most alarming among them is the prevalence of Obesity and the Diabetes Mellitus and then various complications of this chronic ailment; smoking being another common social habit, it has added to the fuel in the form of Ischemic heart diseases; and then comes the hypertension, chronic lung diseases, peripheral vascular disease and brain stroke etc. Neurological diseases such as migraines are very common, what are some of the simple, yet effective, treatments for that? If you have migraines or a family history of migraines, a doctor trained in treating headaches (neurologist) will likely diagnose migraines based on your medical history, symptoms, and a physical and neurological examination. Migraine treatments can help stop symptoms and prevent future attacks.

Head of Internal Medicine, Consultant of Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Family Clinic • Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (Edin) • Member of Royal College of Physicians (UK) • Member of Royal College of Physicians (Edin) • Member of European Society of Heart Failure • Work experience in Middle east - KSA & UAE

There are some Self-care measures can help ease migraine pain. Practice muscle relaxation exercises. Relaxation techniques may include progressive muscle relaxation, meditation or yoga. Get enough sleep, but don’t oversleep. Get the right amount of sleep each night, making sure to go to bed and wake up at a consistent time. Rest and relax. Try to rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp. Keep a headache diary. Continue recording in your headache diary even after you see your doctor. It will help you learn more about what triggers your migraines and what treatment is most effective. Ultimately the patient has to learn to recognize the factors causing these attacks and how to avoid those factors. What advice do you give our readers for their general health and well being? Basically a healthy lifestyle is the key to a state of physical and mental well-being. A proper, balanced nutritious mealplan, proper sleep and regular exercise is must on a daily basis. Exercise should include stretching, aerobics, basic yoga and then meditation. These are the fundamentals of a healthy life in any stage of life or state of illness. Once, unfortunately enough, one develops any of those chronic diseases, then one must try to understand the disease process, its course over a period of time and the various interventions available. The person should comply to the advise given by the physician and the medications prescribed. Most the complications developed over a period of time are a result of non-compliance and that happens due to negligence by the patient which in turn happens due to poor understanding of the disease process. the talk - page 85

Prenatal care What is prenatal care? Basically, it’s a type of preventative healthcare; it’s the healthcare you are provided with right from the time of conception to birth. A healthy pregnancy is the best way to promote a healthy birth. It is absolutely crucial to take care yourself during pregnancy, both for the safety of yourself and for the baby. Here are some dos and don’ts: • Regular doctor appointments to track your pregnancy and healthcare. • Do not forget your supplements. Your doctor will monitor your nutrients but he will most likely prescribe multivitamins and of course folic acid. • Avoid x-rays at all costs, extra care should be taken if it is necessary. • Goes without saying: healthy food. Forget about the “eating for two” - it’s not true! As long as you’re getting enough nutrients and you’re keeping up with your fluid intake, you’re good to go. • Avoid raw fish or meat, and also fish with high mercury content. Bye bye sushi? Stay safe and avoid vigorous activity. Engage in activities that provide pure joy. Immerse yourself to the beauty of those 9 months, it’s true what they say, it really is a magical journey! the talk - page 86

Maserati GranTurismo The Pininfarina-designed GranTurismo is a historically important, brand-defining model for Maserati. The luxurious four-seater sports coupé was conceived as an ultra-modern interpretation of our very first production grand tourer, the elegant Maserati A6 1500 of 1947. And over the years, the GranTurismo has evolved into one of the most iconic Maserati cars ever built, thanks to its uncompromised GT character. This character is perfectly expressed by a uniquely compelling combination – bold yet elegant design; the exhilarating, inspirational performance of a naturally aspirated, Maranello-built V8 engine; and hand-crafted comfort offered by four individual, Poltrona Frau® seats. In essence, the GranTurismo is the ultimate expression of what grand touring means to Maserati.

Your music career and how it led up to your upcoming album. It all started when I met my good friend and producer, WiIma Archer from Domino Recording Co., in 2012. We began working together whilst attending LCC, and he had already been making music. He asked me to sing on his EP, and that’s where the song “Bruised” emerged and became my first featured release on a label. From there, he encouraged me to build on my career, and it’s been a continuous collaboration with him since then. At what age did singing become more than just a hobby to you? I loved to sing, that I had known since very early on, but it wasn’t until the age of 9 when I discovered that storytelling through music was something I found comfort and happiness in. I was attending LFK (Lycee Francais du Koweit) and during a music class, the teacher gave me my first solo piece to perform on stage: Charles Aznavour’s Formidable. That performance was the pivotal moment where I knew that singing and performing was something I genuinely loved to do. What will we be expecting from the album and who is your target? Dust Bathing is an EP that illustrates the essence of growth within Kuwait. A place that’s sleepy and seemingly quiet, yet within barren desert lies countless stories and possibilities. Its content is stemmed from episodes of my life, and each song is reflective of trying to grasp the sense of home. I really think that most people can relate to that. The first single release will go live on YouTube on the 5th of March. The EP will be made available by mid March on every digital platform such as Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Anghami. Stay tuned! Describe each of your business ventures. Each thing I do is driven by passion, with my heart and soul poured into it. I found balance within myself when I applied to The Institute of Integrated Nutrition to venture into the path of holistic healing, which led me to becoming a certified health coach. This is what started The Talking Birdy, a little health blog I manage where I’m able to nurture my body and mind through a creative flow of wellness tips and tricks that I share with my readers. I’m also a foodie, and it allows me to explore my creativity in the kitchen. I’m also a freelancer in casting and production for feature Arabic films in Lebanon. Whenever I’m in Beirut for a long period of time, I work with different production companies behind the scenes. It’s been a great way for me to explore all different angles of film and theater, and I’ve gained a lot of valuable experience through it. (I was even a stunt woman once!) Describe your relationship with your mother. My mother is my rock-solid foundation, my best friend and she’s supported me through every decision I’ve decided to take. From day one she’s been by my side, and I couldn’t imagine where I’d be without her today. What was the funniest mother-daughter moment you ever had? If I told you, my mother would kill me! But I’ll tell you this, never take anything too seriously! the talk - page 118

What was the best advice your mother ever gave you? “Sleep on it” – I’m very impulsive by nature, and my mother encourages me to take a moment before making a big decision. Sleeping on it has literally saved me many a times. Advice for young girls being held back due to cultural reasons. Going against the stream is hard in the beginning, but if you’re passionate enough about going after your ambitions, you’ll learn that you can do so without compromising your values. It may seem rebellious at first, but I promise you there’s a way to find balance between who you truly are, and what your family expects from you. Once you find that, the rest will follow.

How old is your daughter, and what is the story behind her name? Jude is 1-year-old (2 months away from turning 2). I have always loved the name and we wanted something that worked internationally since my mother-in-law is American and we have family in the United States. As a young mother, what are some of the difficulties faced at first and how do you combat them? The difficulties were endless. It’s something to laugh at now looking back at it but at that moment I’m pretty sure I was a mess. The difficulties of breastfeeding, lack of sleep, managing my time and going back to work after maternity leave. The only way I was able to combat all those things was to give it time, to allow myself to be patient and tell myself that this will not last forever. It was a learning curve and I did not realize how strong I could be until I got through it all. What tips can you give young working mothers? I have found motherhood to be an incredible catalyst for personal growth - shifting our perspectives and refocusing our goals. Motivating us to be better and do more. My tips to young mothers would be: know your limits. Know how much time you need alone – outside of work and children – because when you are burnt out, both facets of your life will suffer. And, most importantly, but also the hardest thing to do, let go of the guilt. Rather than dwell on how you’re not with your child, think about how your role at your job is benefitting you/your family. A full-time job, a business, and a full-time mommy! Is time-management a myth or is it a real thing in your opinion? I have never been more inspired as a woman as I was when I became a mother. I work because I love it and because I want to use my abilities, having a business is my passion, and being a mother? well that’s the best part of it all. It all comes down to compartmentalizing and not being ashamed to ask for help. It’s important to be a professional and a good mother, but it’s important the talk - page 124

to be present in both roles. Sometimes it’s difficult, but I am so much better at being a mother/ worker/entrepreneur/wife/friend/sister/daughter when I am fully present in the moment, instead of trying to multitask more than necessary. Describe “Ivy Babies”, the concept, and how you came across the idea. Ivy Babies is an online baby boutique that provides different products from different vendors. The vendors that we search for and select are up and coming brands from different parts of the world that each offer its uniqueness. The one thing that our vendors do have in common is that they provide high quality material that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. How do you select the pieces, are there certain criteria you follow for your customer base? Quality is the number one criteria when it comes to choosing the type of products we offer. We try to offer hip items using the highest quality. As you can see on our website, most of the products we sell are carefully sourced, and mostly organic. We also follow the latest trends and try to set the trend so that we have an advantage over our competitors. What made you enter this market and what are your future plans for Ivy Babies? My business partner and I (who is also my sister) noticed the lack of options when it came to infant/ toddler related products in the market. Products tend to be either low quality, or good quality with a high price point. At Ivy, we strive to provide top quality products at a very reasonable price. Our objective is to provide something for everyone, and most importantly, affordable to the masses. What was your funniest “clumsy mom” moment, and what was your favorite “supermom” moment? You know the saying don’t cry over spilt milk? Don’t ever say that to a breastfeeding mother because boy, the tears were shed. Supermom moment has got to be exclusively breastfeeding for a full nine months whilst working and being a business owner.

250 California The first Ferrari to bear the name California was the original V12-engined 250 California, an exquisitely designed 2-seater spider produced in 1957, which has become renowned as being one of the greatest examples of automotive design of all time. Scaglietti built around 100 of these, some with aluminium bodies, and examples now fetch millions at auction. Long-wheelbase versions were built between 1958 and 1960 before being replaced by the shortwheelbase version.

365 California Following in its footsteps was the equally impressive 365 California, less than 20 were ever built between 1966 and 1967. The exclusive nature of these Ferraris ensured that California became a hallowed name. the talk - page 127

The design, an elegantly balanced interplay of convex and concave surfaces epitomizes the sublime elegance, sportiness, versatility and exclusivity that have distinguished every California model since the 1950s.

California T HS In January 2016, Maranello launched a brand-new Handling Speciale (HS) option for the California T, designed for owners looking for an even sportier driving experience, particularly on challenging, twisty routes. the talk - page 128

The Ferrari Portofino The new car, which takes its name from one of the most charming villages on the Italian Riviera, an eponym for stylish elegance, is the most versatile model in the current-day range. A Ferrari designed to be driven every day that also effortlessly converts from an authentic ‘berlinetta’ coupĂŠ to a drop-top capable of delivering a unique Ferrari soundtrack and superb driving pleasure even in day-to-day situations. Powered by the Ferrari V8 turbo, a member of the engine family that won the overall International Engine of the Year Award in both 2016 and 2017, the new car punches out 600 cv and sprints from 0-200 km/h in just 10.8 seconds. The Ferrari Portofino is, in fact, the most powerful convertible to simultaneously offer a retractable hard top, roomy boot and generous occupant space that also includes two rear seats for short trips. The retractable hard top (RHT) has been completely redesigned and can now be opened or closed in just 14 seconds on the move at lower speeds, making the car even more practical. Careful modelling of the RHT housing now allows the luggage compartment to hold two cabin trolleys with the roof down and three with the roof up. Ideal for any occasion, the Ferrari Portofino represents the perfect combination of design, performance and technology. The Ferrari Portofino is significantly lighter with the adoption of new components featuring innovative designs made possible by the use of cutting-edge production techniques. This, combined with a 40 cv higher power output than the California T, has resulted in a significant hike in performance and a corresponding drop in emissions. Vehicle dynamics benefit from the introduction, for the first time on this model, of electric power steering, the 3rd generation electronic differential (E-Diff3) and the latest evolution of the electronic suspension control system (SCM-E) integrated with Premium 9.1 ESP. the talk - page 129

Ferrari 488 Pista: a brilliant track-derived combination of exhilaration and performance The Ferrari 488 Pista, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, is the successor to Ferrari’s V8-engined special series - the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale – which have received critical acclaim for their performance and undiluted handling.

the talk - page 130

The Ferrari 488 Pista marks a significant step forward from the previous special series in terms of both sporty dynamics and for the level of technological carry-over from racing. The name is, in fact, a direct homage to Ferrari’s unparalleled heritage in motor sports. The car’s development evolved directly from the company’s involvement in the FIA World Endurance Championship where it has won five Manufacturers’ titles in the GTE class in the six years since the series’ inception, taking 29 out of 50 races - and 25 years’ experience in running the Ferrari Challenge one-make series. The Ferrari 488 Pista makes full use of Ferrari’s motor-sports experience for maximum aerodynamic performance even on the road. Among the racing solutions adopted is the front F1inspired S-Duct and the design of the front diffusers which feature a ramp angle that was optimised for the 488 GTE to create strong suction for increased downforce. the talk - page 131

Bentley Veneer Hunters: Sustainable, Unique, Exquisite Bentley recently added its first new veneer in five years – Liquid Amber – to its collection. This is the luxury British brand’s seventh exclusive veneer, encapsulating its quest for the finest materials and catering to discerning customers in the Middle East and worldwide.

the talk - page 132

The fact that new veneers are an extremely rare occurrence in Bentley interiors is due to the extraordinary lengths that the brand’s team of expert veneer hunters go to in order to source the finest materials in the world. Liquid Amber is sourced from the American Red Gum – or American Sweet Gum tree – which grows along the rich, moist soils of the Mississippi wetlands in the south-eastern states of America. The tree’s resin is called Liquid Amber – a reference to its perfumed scent. Bentley sources only the highest quality trees, and harvests the veneer just twice a year due to restricted access across the wetlands on which it grows. The wood undergoes a natural smoking process, which takes several weeks, to give it a deep, rich brown lustre while maintaining the warm, red hue. The Liquid Amber veneer is then transported 4,500 miles back to the team of experts in the Bentley woodshop in Crewe, where it is examined alongside the six other carefully chosen veneers available exclusively to Bentley customers. the talk - page 133

The car’s perfect weight distribution, front double-wishbone/rear multi-link suspension and standard Limited-Slip Differential (LSD), guarantee the razor-sharp road handling for which genuine Maserati models are famed. the talk - page 138

Maserati GranCabrio The Maserati GranCabrio – the convertible interpretation of the iconic GranTurismo – made its world debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed by Pininfarina, it offered the joys of luxury grand touring in a full four-seater from a breath-taking new perspective. The new model features a subtle restyle that respects the dramatic elegance of the original. Its sensuous lines can be traced directly to its ancestor, the 1950 A6G Frua Spyder – a highly exclusive production convertible with a race car engine. The timeless design is accompanied by the exhilarating, inspirational performance of a naturally aspirated, Maranello-built V8 engine and the hand-crafted comfort of four individual Poltrona Frau® seats. In short, the GranCabrio is the ultimate. the talk - page 139

“Tradition is a commitment. Without our tradition and without our core values, we would not be where we are today”, explained Blume. “We plan to uphold the standard of technical excellence set by Ferry Porsche well into the future. Intelligent dynamic mobility has a great future ahead of it. And we have the solid technological expertise, creative employees and unique team spirit to be involved. We have what it takes to ensure that the Porsche brand continues to fascinate – even in another 70 years.”

Fast. Puristic. Emotive. For the past 70 years, the Porsche brand has been synonymous with sports car construction at the very highest level. The first vehicle to bear the Porsche name was registered on June 8, 1948: It was the 356 “No.1” Roadster. This is the day on which the Porsche brand was born. The Type 356 turned Ferry Porsche’s dream of a sports car into a reality. “His vision at that time embodied all of the values that still define the brand to this day”, said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, at the New Year Reception held at the Porsche Museum.
