If the Glove fits! Short, long, colorful, black, lace and leather! The winter runaway seems flooded with it, a trend that is certainly showing up a whole lot. Whether you’re opting for a pair to jazz up your outfit for a fancy event or be it a casual night out with friends, these babies will always have a place in our closets. How to wear you might ask? Depending on the outfit, focus on length and material. Opt for long satin gloves for a red carpet effect. Or short black leather gloves for a more casual trendy approach. Some brands such as Hermes have classic ones, while Chanel has both classic and edgy seasonal styles. If you’re the type of girl that likes to change it up, get a pair of classic leather gloves and then shop around high street stores for seasonal picks such as studded gloves, or a pair of wooly ones for those cold nights.

Peta, where you at? This topic always stirs up a ton of discussions and controversies. You may be on either end of the pro or con, but one fact remains undisputed – you will always hold a certain fascination and love for fur or faux-fur in your heart … and your closet! With winter’s arrival and as the temperatures keeps dropping, our fur coats and vests leave the storage room and make their way out into the open. Kanye sure does loves his fur, as apparent from his lyrics, “Tell PETA my mink is dragging on the floor”. For that edgy look, pair it up with a pair of leather leggings and Yeezys and get ready to turn heads. Red lips are always a classy choice with these outfit choices, just in case you were wondering…

Taking Charge:
The Workwear Revolution With the fashion world on her side, 2017 has been the year of the boss girl. Workwear has dominated the past few seasons, with brands like Balenciaga and Gucci parading power suits down their runways. Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia has opted for an abstractly structured take on the iconic silhouette with his amped-up shoulder pads, while Alessandro Michele gave the Gucci suit some 80’s flair with intricate sequin detailing. With fashion’s celebration of female empowerment this year, it is no surprise that the trend has grown to be a street style staple. See how our favorite street style veteran, Rihanna, has styled the notorious workwear trend. Text by Taiba - The Urban Analyst

Weekend Max Mara:
Aegean Sun by Micol Sabbadini Milanese fine art photographer Micol Sabbadini has dipped into her visual archive to create a breezy, summer-centric capsule collection for Weekend Max Mara. Known for her striking images of exotic locales, Sabbadini has drawn on the sun-drenched imagery of the Aegean Islands for this collection. Photographs, taken in stolen moments during her travels, of white- washed houses, lazily drifting boats, intricate mosaics and luscious Mediterranean peonies are thoughtfully collaged or transformed into stunning patterns by the artist. Twelve Weekend Max Mara-designed pieces will receive this visual treatment from her photographic eye: dresses, trousers, shirts, skirts and accessories in shifting shades of white, blue and pink. “The mood of this collection,” Sabbadini describes of the inspiration behind the collaboration, “is European summer — coastal houses in Greece, sailboats in the sea and snatches of text I find wandering around with my camera on days off.” The twelve pieces featured in the collection were designed with long, carefree days in mind. The images were designed specifically for the cut of three of these garments, treating each piece like one of Sabbadini’s artworks. A cotton poplin menswear-style shirt is collaged with digitally printed sailboats bordered with peonies and mosaic patterns. A Silk Crêpe de Chine T-shirt, with Cotton Jersey sleeves and back, is printed with similar floral motifs and emblazoned with found text. A voluminous, 50s-inspired high-waisted skirt in cotton poplin features whitewashed houses, glimpses of the sea and oversized peonies. An all-over floral pattern can be found on a pair of wide-leg, highwaisted trousers in Crêpe de Chine and a full- length shirt dress in cotton poplin. Meanwhile, a similar pattern featuring a blue and white floral motif, sailboats and ‘LOVE’ boldly written in red adorns a fulllength Crêpe de Chine t- shirt dress, kick-flare Capri trousers in satin cotton stretch and a 50s-style shirt dress with a full, half-wheel skirt. Creamy silk foulard scarves and iconic Weekend Max Mara Pasticcino bags will also receive the all-over-print treatment from Sabbadini.

“I loved this project,” Sabbadini says about the collaboration with Weekend Max Mara, “using my photography archive in this way was greatly inspiring.” Between Sabbadini’s dreamy images and Weekend Max Mara’s chicly understated silhouettes and luxuriously rendered fabrics, the capsule collection’s Mediterranean vibe seems second nature to the newfound collaborators. But for Sabbadini, it was the opportunity to work in an entirely different medium that was most rewarding, “it was an amazing learning experience and super fun,” she reveals about the partnership, “I was given freedom to make something true to my aesthetic.”

Jimmy Choo Unveils
Borrowed from the Boys Cruise 2018 Collection As part of the Cruise 2018 collection Jimmy Choo introduces a capsule of styles that are literally Borrowed from the Boys with three styles from the Jimmy Choo men’s collection tailored for a women’s fit.
the talk - page 40
The Borrowed from The Boys collection features 3 hero styles in a variety of fabrications that are available for both the Jimmy Choo woman and man. The androgynous style of a men’s loafer or evening slipper is timelessly modern and that is the essence of the collection, taking men’s signature silhouettes and tailoring them for a women’s fit respecting the form of each genders foot as it isn’t simply a case of offering smaller sizes. “Personally I have always explored more androgynous ways of dressing. The trick is retaining a notion of femininity with subtle styling nuances lending a softness and counter balance to masculine style. The Borrowed from the Boys collection of shoes is something I have wanted to create
for a while. The designs are sleek and formal, working from day to night. The masculine silhouettes are softened with fabrications of tactile velvet and playful accents of fur. I think there’s a notion of innate confidence when a woman experiments with masculine tailoring that feels relevant to the Jimmy Choo woman.” Sandra Choi, Creative Director The TEDI is a refined loafer in high shine brushed leather with a playful flourish of fur decorating the front of the shoe and lining the interior presented in a tonal colour palette. The TEDI is offered in black, slate and aubergine hues. The MARTI is a new loafer featuring a chevron-hemmed snaffle that echoes the buckle of Jimmy Choo’s signature LOCKETT handbag. It is presented in an assortment of tactile velvet, coloured suede and a crushed black patent leather. There’s also the crystal-encrusted MARLO style. The collection will be available from December 2017 onwards in all Jimmy Choo stores across Kuwait. Be ready to rock your “Choos”. the talk - page 41

Jimmy Choo
Cruise 2018 X The Talk Featuring Social Media Influencer Fatima Al Momen The collection reflects Creative Director Sandra Choi’s overarching collection inspiration of dancing Choos, disco and sparkle, dressing up for a night out and telling the story of Kuwait after-dark. Jimmy Choo’s Cruise 2018 collection is all about celebration, referenced by fireworks arching across a darkened sky, colored beams of light cutting across a dance floor and the twinkling panorama of a night-time cityscape viewed from below. It deploys richness and sophistication to ignite a collection that radiates brilliance and infectious energy designed to transfix the watcher and transport the wearer. Headline fabrications from the Jimmy Choo Cruise 2018 collection includes gems inlaid into heels, pearl-encrusted leather, playful lamé fringing and cut crystal brooches are conversations running through the collection while Jimmy Choo signature glitter dances across shoes and bags. The Talk editorial team had the chance to get ‘up and close’ to shoot the new Jimmy Choo Cruise 2018 collection and if there is one socialite that fully embodies the new product range and inspiration behind these stunning pieces of art, it is Fatima Al Momen. The former architect-turned-social media influencer and entrepreneur is no stranger to versatility and ingenuity within the high-fashion industry and has etched a name for herself in defying fashion conventions with conviction. She is part of a new generation of women in Kuwait who have a voice and isn’t afraid to walk the talk in style, or more precisely, in her Choos. ‘I love spending time with my girls and my busy schedule doesn’t always allow me to be here at all times, which means I often miss celebrating their achievements or special occasions so when I’m here and the girls are getting together for a fun night out, I pull all the stops to ensure the night is celebrated in style. The new Jimmy Choo Cruise 2018 collection is the pinnacle of footwear and accessories and no choice can possibly be the wrong one” - Fatima Al Momen

Brands on the Come Up MISBHV
MISBHV is the Polish brand you need to know. The brand makes a fresh, dynamic contribution to the pooling world of street and contemporary wear, laced with its Polish roots and unique take on pop culture. Designers Natalia Maczek and Thomas Wirski draw inspiration from past golden eras of culture and expression, apparent in the laid back 90’s vibe that encapsulates their collections. Expanding into womenswear in 2016, MISBHV has since taken the fashion world by storm. Cohesion of classic silhouettes and awe-inspiring graphics have become the brand’s signature, bridging the gap between minimalism and non-conformity. The latest from MISBHV places a heavy emphasis on texture and form, taking the brand’s ability to completely transform the mundane to new heights. The SS18 lookbook is a work of art in itself, featuring rising it-girl Duckie Thot. Shot by Lea Colombo, the lookbook presents strikingly stark contrasts between bold colors, with Duckie front-and-center coolly sporting the collection. MISBHV remains undoubtedly unorthodox, and we cannot wait to see the brand’s progression unfold. Text by Taiba - The Urban Analyst

Louis Vuitton The New Classic
The latest from Louis Vuitton is the perfect fusion of old and new. The Louis Vuitton Cruise 2018 collection, now in store, draws inspiration from Japan. We first saw the collection on the runway in Kyoto back in May, where Nicolas GhesquiĂŠre undoubtedly outdid himself. The collection, a riveting homage to Japanese culture, presented the Japanese kabuki iconically reimagined by Kansai Yamamoto, the Japanese designer famous for dressing none other than David Bowie. The classic Louis Vuitton monogram print was also revisited in the collection, to create an adorably bento box-inspired mini bag. Text by Taiba - The Urban Analyst

Getting to Know Huishan Zhang Huishan Zhang, the Chinese-born, London-based designer, launches his Resort 18 collection at Bloomingdale’s, creating luxurious pieces where Eastern heritage meets Western influences. As a Chinese-born, London based designer, Huishan has mapped out his signature style, finding inspiration and direction through his national identity. His collections create a romantic, sophisticated and ageless philosophy with feminine details, strong lines and directional design. For Resort 18 collection, the Huishan Zhang muse is both playful and youthful in her manner while setting the scene for a cascade of outfits that are comfortable yet dressy with a collage of fabrics; think lace, sequins, jacquard, cotton, wool and silks. The mini dress and shirt tops, both long and short, accentuate the collection’s jovial and relaxed attitude by intermixing the many forms and fabrics of unexpected cut out shapes, asymmetrical layers and geometrically placed flowers whilst the romantic essence of the designer’s aesthetic is seen in the layered ruffles and combinations of eccentric fabrics, classic lace and embroidery. We had the chance to have a little chat with the designer himself and how he started out! Huishan Zhang left home in China at the age of 17 to study abroad. He has lived almost half of his life in the West. Zhang studied fashion design in New Zealand, during his time there he was handpicked to work for the House of Dior. At first he started with ready-to-wear and then moved on to the Haute Couture Atelier. Working for other brands has helped Zhang in many ways, it made him understand the process and later on helped him start up his own brand. When asked what inspired him to start up his own brand he said, “I always wanted to do something special, to really have a ‘made in China’ luxury brand. That’s pretty much what my brand stands for. I have my own Atelier in China and another studio in London, that’s how we started and it was a very interesting journey.” Huishan draws his inspiration from well-travelled, elegant women. Women who know exactly what they want, and these are his customers. Culture-wise he travels a lot, therefore, he mentions that a lot of travelling sure does inspire you! When speaking of culture Huishan Zhang talks about how his own heritage influences his designs. “Chinese culture runs in my blood, no matter what I do the Chinese influence always shows in my designs.”

In addition to the adult classes and children’s workshops, the school has developed a rich program of events and activities that are free and open to the public. Ranging from evening conversations, to landmark exhibitions and complementary outdoor cinema screenings, the program is designed to offer an immersive experience for anyone interested in design, history, jewelry and contemporary culture. Zeina Mokaddam grasped the opportunity to fully immerse herself, and to learn more from Marie Vallanet-Delhom, president of L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels. Firstly, and pertinently as we sit here in the heat of Dubai, far from the streets of Paris, why the travelling school? “Well, at first”, Marie says, “we decided to establish the school in Paris because this is where jewelry is rooted, but I quickly realized that there was a contradiction between wanting to reach out to the largest audience possible and being localized in Paris because not everyone visits Paris. Therefore, we had to move and go to our future students. Thus, the idea of a moving school was created”. The aim of the the lessons is only to learn the basics, or is it a gateway for those who want to partake more fully in the jewelry industry? “Both. It is essentially an initiation for the public. We do not pretend that taking the courses makes one ready to work in the industry. But it should be noted that the courses are very specific, allowing professionals as well to add to their knowledge. For instance, a jeweler who does not know much about the history of gemstones can take courses and learn more about Art Nouveau jewelry or the history of jewelry. So, both amateurs and professionals take our courses”.

Over the past 5 years, you’ve been to New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. And now, you’re in Dubai. How was your first experience, how did the diverse cultures respond to the idea, and how is it today and why? “5 years is at once a lot of time and very little time for this school, which is one of a kind in the world. Tokyo was our first destination. We established our first school abroad in Tokyo where we gave courses. Later, an outstanding version of a moving school is here in Dubai, because not only do we give courses and hold conferences, we also have a campus with 6 simultaneous expositions. It is our most ambitious project so far and I am very happy with it”. The profits of this program go to a charitable organization for the education of children. Is it the first time L’Ecole gives charitable donations or is it common to the L’Ecole program? “It is not exactly the first time. We’ve had a similar program in Hong Kong, because China is also very engaged in the education of children. It is Hong Kong and the Middle East that have the most been engaged in this matter”. How often do you plan to revisit a country? How do you rotate and select the cities you want to work with? “We are trying to have an 18-month cycle, which would be perfect. If we could for example come back here in 18 months, it would be great. We were able to do this in Hong Kong, we have visited Hong Kong 3 times now. We were not able to do it in the USA but I think we will manage to hold a second session there next year. It is true that we are facing a big demand at the same time and in various places. And for those who don’t want to wait for a year and a half, they can always come to L’Ecole in Paris, so they can visit the L’Ecole website and register. It is available 11 months a year”.

Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest Haute Horlogerie manufacture with almost 260 years of uninterrupted history. Alexander Schmiedt has been Brand Director for the Middle East since the beginning of 2016. Speaking on his appointment, Schmiedt said: “For somebody who is passionate about fine watchmaking, it is an honour and unique opportunity for me to work for Vacheron Constantin, the oldest watch manufacture in the world. I am greatly looking forward to further sharing this unique watchmaking heritage with the watch enthusiasts of the region.” Now, as he heads towards the end of his second year with Vacheron Constantin, it seems like the perfect time to reflect on lessons learned, experiences encountered, and changes overseen, as well to discover what is next on his to-do list. Alexander loves watches and surrounded by the heritage and history that Vacheron represents he has derived great pleasure from the experience of the past two years, and has uncovered a treasure of inspiration. “It’s a brand with big potential”, he says, and one where he has been able to “take what we already have and bring it to the next level.” “We need to raise the brand’s awareness and tell the story, having history is extremely relevant as it allows you to do things that others cannot do - and that’s what we’ve started doing. We are on our way to achieve the absolute target.” There is no doubt that he has proved he is on the right track, but it is equally clear that there is potential for strong growth ahead in the region. According to Alexander, the never-changing key to success is to become and to stay relevant to your clients. In the current digital age, communication has undergone immense change; complete transparency and immediate response as well information at your fingertips, transferrable instantaneously. Modern means of production, 3D printing, and robotics, instil the feeling of information overload. Nevertheless, a certain group of people will always appreciate the things that last and resonate a sense of heritage and history. Relevance is something that is authentic, real, and exclusive. Alexander tells us, “Here at Vacheron, we have always been exclusive, always living a passion, and aiming for something beyond functionality. One does not aspire to own a Vacheron Constantin just to tell time, it is something that you develop an emotional relation with, it’s all about craftsmanship and passion. That doesn’t mean it has to be old fashioned, on the contrary, something that has a long tradition, out of which you can develop something that is extremely modern.” With 260 years of history comes heavy responsibility, however the current impact globalization has on the brand is certainly empowering. When both are combined then innovation occurs. Alexander quotes an Arab Sheikh, “Something I learnt here in the Middle East; that only the one who understands his past,

understands his present, and knows where he wants to go in the future.” “We learn from the past, which allows us to reinvent and renovate to move forward. Tradition and innovation are like two sides of the same coin. If you want to stay traditional you have to constantly innovate and remake yourself, to create a traditional tomorrow.” 2017 has been a stellar year for Vacheron Constantin. The highlight must include $1 Million Celestia Astronomical watch, and the recent Historiques additions. Vacheron always comes back to heritage and tradition, it is a question of how to make something relevant. Celestia is the perfect example; the most complicated astronomical watch ever created combining innovation and creativity in a single piece. “To simplify something so complicated is often the most complicated task in itself.” For Alexander that was a major accomplishment. “This bulk of innovation in a piece that is very wearable, beautiful, and simple. The final client for the Celestia is actually from the Middle East.” As a constant traveller, Alexander Schmiedt has met many watch owners, enthusiasts and collectors. When asked about what they expect from Vacheron in the future, Schmiedt tells us, “They expect that we as Vacheron continue to stay true to our roots, don’t change who we are but continue to surprise them. Also for us to continue to reinvent ourselves in a way that we haven’t before, hopefully we have something to astonish next year, which would definitely surprise them.” We are definitely not huge fans of smart watches, but there is a place for them in the market. However, according to Alexander, you cannot compare them with Vacheron watches or any other watch. They are two different things, that follow different rhythms of lifestyles. “The smartwatch might be the coolest thing to wear today, but in three months there’s a new one out.” Also, it is only based on functionality. As for Vacheron you do not buy it purely for functionality, it is like a piece of art, you will love it today, and in 50 years as well! You might even pass it on to someone else in your family. It would still stay as relevant and elegant as it is today. We noticed Alexander was wearing a Vacheron classic! We couldn’t help but ask him about it. “I’m currently wearing the Vacheron Overseas watch; this watch was developed for the travellers. I consider myself as one of them. I could be on a beach in Dubai or in the office, this watch is the perfect one for me as it fits my lifestyle.” Time is a funny thing, some of us have so much of it, while others have so little to spare. When asked about his own relationship with time, Alexander answered almost instantaneously, “It is the ultimate luxury! When you are born, you are given a certain quantity of time and once a second is over you cannot take it back. There is no recipe on how to use it. My advice is to use it in a way that you don’t regret, and you make the most out of it.”

Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dog
Artistic crafts share unique perspectives The elegance, the refinement and the technical nature of the ultra-thin L.U.C XP Urushi watch have made it a cult model. Each year, Chopard draws inspiration from the repertoire of Chinese astrology to offer a fresh interpretation of its Urushi dial, an ancestral Japanese technique. Staging an encounter between beauty and precision, East and West, Chopard places creativity at the heart of cultural ties and of its commitment to perpetuating traditions. 2018 marks the celebration of the Year of the Dog. Its iconography, its universal symbolism and its mythological strength are showcased in an exceptional L.U.C watch issued in an 88-piece limited series: The L.U.C XP Urushi – Year of the Dog. This masterpiece of fine craftsmanship began with an encounter between two perspectives; that of the Urushi master and of the master-watchmaker at Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, both intently focused on their work. In the Chinese zodiac, each sign is the expression of a distinctive nature. The entire range of qualities associated with the dog is thus reflected in the L.U.C XP Urushi – Year of the Dog watch. Eager for justice, sensitive and faithful by nature, dogs devote all their strength to serving others, without ever impinging on others’ freedom. Their devotion withstands every trial and when they love, it is for life. Chopard has decided to embody this canine through a representative of the extremely beautiful Asian ‘Akita’ breed, depicted in a lush natural setting dotted with wild orchids and enhanced by the fluttering presence of a dragonfly, regarded as a lucky charm and a good omen.

Hamilton’s Khaki Aviation X-Wind line heads for new heights as the brand launches a new interpretation of its iconic X-Wind collection. It was a Hamilton watch used on the first US postal service flight between Washington and New York, so aviation is nothing new to the brand whose prestigious aviation heritage dates back to 1918 and has included the rank of official supplier to the US Armed Forces since 1914. Geared toward the skyward bound, working with leading air squadrons and world famous pilots, Hamilton’s Khaki Aviation line is renowned for providing classic aviator styling and functions specific to pilots’ needs. Bursting with character rooted in aviation and the instruments that guide it, immeasurably technical and painstakingly precise, the big, aggressive Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono is no exception to this rule. It goes without saying that the stainless steel with black PVD coating case of the latest iteration of the Khaki X-Wind Auto Chrono naturally houses what really sets the X-Wind apart: one of the world’s first drift angle calculator in a watch. This enables pilots to accurately calculate and record the crosswinds they will encounter on their planned journey.

Chopard Imperiale Moonphase
A delightfully poetic complication The moon phase holds a place of its own in women’s hearts. Chopard is giving it pride of place within its stellar Imperiale collection. The cycle of the night star and the depiction of the constellations are an invitation to embark on a poetic journey through the shimmering nuances of white and blue mother-of-pearl, lit up by the fire of diamonds. This supreme sophistication extends through to the very heart of this new creation, the self-winding Chopard 96.25-C movement stemming from the expertise of Chopard Manufacture. The subtle stylistic echoes of the Roman Empire have instilled their majesty into the contemporary elegance of the classic Chopard line aptly named Imperiale. The breadth of the collection reflects the vast scope of its inspiration, encompassing territories ranging from extreme purity to supreme refinement. For the first time, the Imperiale collection welcomes a moon phase, an horological complication whose aesthetic appeal in no way overshadows its technical sophistication. It immediately places this new model within the elite circle of Haute Horlogerie watches.

Tissot Femini-T
It’s time to be inspired Since its foundation, Tissot has created ladies’ watches. The Tissot Femini-T is inspired by one of its gold women’s models that dates back to the sixties. This re-edition stays true to the original watch with its distinctive cushion-shaped case design, which is echoed in the indices set with Top Wesselton diamonds. This gives the piece a true jewellery allure. Adding to the bracelet feel, is a beautiful pendant, composed of a chain and gorgeous natural water pearl, that can be found on the diamond-shaped lugs of certain models. This was a feature of the original watch’s case design. The Tissot Femini-T stands out with class thanks to its originality. The collection offers multiple versions from a steel or rose gold PVD coated case matched with either a crème, black or red leather bracelet, all the way to all steel bangle versions with Top Wesselton Diamonds around the dials. It’s time to let your personality express itself through the Tissot Femini-T.

The Longines Symphonette adorns itself with pink in a resolutely modern version the talk - page 114
Launched in 2015, the Longines Symphonette was imagined as a contemporary interpretation of the elegance dear to the Swiss watchmaking brand. The unique oval line of the cases, the sophisticated meshing of the bracelets, the refined dials of the various models are like as many notes combining in perfect harmony. Today, Longines is introducing new models blending rose gold and steel that enrich the collection. As modern and bold as ever, the solid rose gold crown and touches of pink on the dial harmoniously match the bracelet that intertwines steel and a rose gold cap. The brightness of the steel, gold and diamonds enhances the refinement of the dials, while the finely wrought bracelets add the overall final touch. Available in two sizes, the steel and diamond-set steel oval cases of the Longines Symphonette house a quartz movement. A silver-coloured “flinqué” dial adorned with Roman numerals, a white mother-of-pearl dial enhanced with diamond indexes or a white inlaid mother-of-pearl dial with Arab numerals, all decorated with a rose gold hourglass, adorn the models in this line. These pieces are mounted on steel bracelets and rose gold cap featuring sophisticated meshing. the talk - page 115

NANTUCKET Jeté de diamants Diamonds break out of the mold as the miniature Nantucket appears in a whirl of sparkling radiance. At its birth in 1991, this model was fitted with a rectangular case featuring the “Anchor Chain” motif created by Henri d’Origny who had been asked to design a square shape. Continuing the saga of an aesthetic rebellion, this “Très Petit Modèle” further accentuates the outline of the original design and celebrates diamonds for daily wear, dotted around as if the wind had scattered them across the watch. Nantucket thus becomes a relaxed piece of daytime jewelry. Crafted in steel, it is fitted with a choice of single tour alligator straps in smooth ember or matt étoupe, Mykonos blue, cactus green, abysse blue, black variations.

Les Parisiennes Champs Elysées Champs Elysées Collection is a tribute to “the world’s most beautiful avenue”. Les Champs Elysées Avenue is known for its theatres, luxury stores and cafés but also for the thousand lights that illuminate the avenue for the year-end holiday season. The dial is made of Aventurine and Mother-of-pearl, with one common theme: the light. Fireworks, streetlights and constellation are drawn on the dial to represent the magic of Les Champs Elysées by night. Like myriad precious stars, the diamonds and impressions form a beautiful graphic composition with the motherof-pearl or aventurine dials. The elegance of the timepiece is reinforced by the blue sapphire cabochons on the crown and on the lugs. The engraved side with the back-to-back “K” in blue resin brings an additional refinement. With its slim design, the timepiece offers modernity. Champs Elysées edition is thought as a feminine and pure timepiece.

A Not So Natural Approach Last month we were all about DIY hair masks and all natural treatments. Moving on from natural treatments to intensive treatments, a natural approach may not be enough especially if your hair has been bleached and has gone through years of straightening, curling, crimping, and tanning sessions. Let’s start with the filler treatment. This three step process takes 45 minutes but is definitely worth it. Dyed your hair a lot that you forgot what texture it was naturally? This treatment will bring back the texture for you! We would suggest you do it every 2-3 weeks. Botox for your hair? Who ever thought that was possible. Go for this treatment once a month if your hair is looking a bit dull. Olaplex is something else! Whether its mixed with your hair dye or alone, this treatment will restore bonds that have been broken down due to heat. Now getting a bit deeper, tired of your excessive frizzy hair? Maybe a straight hair-do will make your life easier. Warning! These treatments aren’t for you ladies with soft straight hair. First off, Keratin will give you the sleek straight look that everyone loves. That model-like hairstyle is achievable easily with this treatment. However, it’s more of a straightening treatment than antifrizz. As for anti-frizz, the Brazilian Blowout is the one for you. Frizz-less hair for up to 12 weeks. Wouldn’t everyone want that? Easier to manage hair is a dream come true for all of us. Bye-bye bad hair days. Last but not least, the Collagen treatment doesn’t straighten but restores and seals the cuticles for healthier hair.

Skin SOS Changes in weather, hormones, and even your diet can affect your skin on a daily basis. Acne, oily skin, dry skin, and blemishes are all problems that frustrate us. However, if you only knew how easy it is to replenish, rejuvenate, and revitalize your skin… The key is to address your concerns, find a way to cure, and then maintain the results. Acne is a problem that nearly every woman has had to face in her lifetime. Depending on how severe your case is, there are different ways to handle this problem. If it is an occasional pimple just use spot clearing ointments such as benzoyl peroxide products. If it is gradually worsening you might need to seek the advice of a dermatologist. Try to go bare face for a few days, give your face a break from all the makeup and chemicals and see how it reacts. Next up, oily skin. The key to control it is to use products that are suitable for your skin type. Products with 2% salicylic acid and mud masks and perfect examples of things you should be using. Also, don’t wash your face more than required because your skin might think it needs to produce more oil to protect itself, but we don’t want that! Always opt for mineral powders and matte formulae when choosing makeup. Now let’s talk about the opposite. Dry skin! Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! If you have dry skin you might have noticed it becoming dull and losing its natural glow. Use a liquid cleanser to replenish the skin’s outer layer, don’t over dry after washing. Use a thick moisturizer or even a gentle oil. We suggest something with shea butter as it’s the heaviest type of moisturizer. For makeup, go for the hydrating liquid formulae that will lock in moisture, stay away from powders and mattifying foundations.

A bespoke essence of ylang moheli, especially distilled to reveal its luminous lily facets, is enhanced by tender orange blossom and honeyed broom absolutes. A sensual dry down of vanilla, vetiver and musk wraps the exuberant bouquet in a sensual trail. The One range also includes The One Eau de Parfum, created by Christine Nagel, a deeper fragrance experience; the Madonna lily floral heart subtly contrasts with the sensuality of rich vanilla, combined with enveloping amber and musky notes. What is cosmetic dermatology and why did you choose dermatology as a specialty? Dermatology incorporates both clinical and cosmetic dermatology. The ‘cosmetic’ aspect of dermatology is noticed a lot as the market requests more cosmetic dermatology in the private sectors. I personally like this area as I’m a lover of nature. I observe nature, if you do that you will have the skills to look at and respect beauty. Ultimately that reflects towards everything you do. What are the most sought out procedures here in the region? In Kuwait, looking at the cosmetic part, the main objective is to “brighten up”, they all seek radiance and healthy looking skin. When you look at radiance, it’s a complex thing, it reflects on your face and also body. We have to look at the psychological aspect, the sleeping patterns, stress, along with the type of skin as well. A holistic approach is needed when beginning to treat anything to do with skin. What do you recommend in terms of skincare? When it comes to basics, the patient needs to know their skin type. If you know your skin type, then you know exactly what to do without even seeking advice from a doctor. A cleanser that suits your skin type can do wonders to your skin. Try to wash your face twice a day. SPF is also crucial, for Kuwait you require a minimum of 30+ SPF. With all the new technologies and procedures coming out, what do you recommend patients do before opting to go through with them? With all the technologies and products, the patient must consult a specialized doctor before trying anything out. There is a trend, unfortunately, where patients have approached unqualified personnel to acquire fillers and botox, therefore, resulting in compromising results. You should always seek the advice of a qualified dermatologist before trying anything new. First, you assess your concerns, and then, find a solution, instead of rushing to try the newest trends. Because of many reasons, discoloration is a huge issue in this region. Which treatment do you recommend for this issue? Pigmentation is not only a skin issue, it can also be due to clinical processes; underlying conditions that could cause that such as hormonal fluctuation. In general, you should protect your skin with SPF and never use anti-pigmentation agents during the daytime. Different medications are given to treat different levels of pigmentation, but still it is not fool-proof. There is no single treatment; rather a combination of creams, sunscreens, chemical peels, and some laser procedures.
Dr. Suraj V. Davis Position: Specialist in Clinical & Cosmetic Dermatology Department: Department of Dermatology Qualifications: Post Graduate Masters in Clinical & Cosmetic Dermatology. Board Certifications: Board Certified in American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. What are the most common skin problems and how can we avoid them? At different ages, the issues are different. With regards to younger children, eczema is very common. Depending on the patient, the eczema usually goes away by the age of five, but in some cases it could last longer. Always keep the child’s skin moisturized to minimize the effect of it on the skin. As teens, of course acne is the most common issue that can be dealt with differently depending on how severe the case is. In adults and older age groups, aging related changes are a major concern which require various anti-aging treatments. The truth about makeup! How to minimize the damage done? First rule, never sleep with makeup on. Depending on your skin type, you should know which formulas work for your skin to minimize damage. It is best to use water-based makeup, not oil-based. Oil-based makeup blocks pores which can cause enlarged pores and acne. Enlarged pores are a lady’s worst nightmare. Can this issue be solved? This is a huge upcoming topic. All the studies that have gone in to this research to minimize pores have not yet given us the results that we would wish for, basically, there is no fix-it-all solution. The treatments on hand might minimize pores, but they target other skin issues, rather than this particular issue itself. Again, dilated pores might be genetic, or caused due to excess sebum production. Always keep your skin cleansed to avoid this issue. There are a number of treatments that can minimize pores such as fractional lasers. Dermatology is a huge area of medicine, continuously expanding and bringing us newer results and the best of treatments. Don’t lose hope, there is still much more to come. the talk - page 131

HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training What is HIIT and why is everyone talking about it? HIIT, or high-intensity interval training has become a trend for many reasons; it is a training technique with intense bursts of exercise followed by short active recovery periods. It’s a great way to burn fat faster and a great workout to squeeze in to your weekly workouts. It’s all about fat blasting cardio, the intense burst of energy speeds up your metabolism. How does that work? It’s like tricking your body each minute. There are different approaches to this workout. You could run 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds. Or run for 2 minutes, and rest for 1 minute. It all depends on your endurance and how fit you are. Over time, you will notice a huge difference when it comes to your regular workouts. You will turn your body into a fat burning machine, who wouldn’t want that? HIIT doesn’t only work for jogging, any form of cardio would give you amazing results when applying this technique. Trainers are implementing it into different workouts. Why? It’s fast, effective, and can be added to your regular interval training plan. Text by Rawan Qabazard the talk - page 132

Her journey through Interior and Fashion Design With a vivid exposure to a world of design and fashion from a very young age, Noura Al Tuwaijri tells us that she decided to pursue her education in Interior Design early on. She always aspired to study interior designer, but then again she knew she was very drawn to and wanted to be a fashion designer. Her earliest memories are the trips to various fashion fairs in addition to furniture & design fairs that she would attend with her mother. Noura’s decision to major in Interior Design as opposed to Fashion Design was a result of the fact that it was not possible for her to double major in both. What about fashion, going forward? Her latest collaboration with Wataniya Airways has affirmed her desire and passion for this industry; Noura being the designer of the Wataniya Airways uniform wardrobe. She is certainly planning to attain her master’s degree in fashion design and we cannot wait to see what Noura has in store for us! “Every achievement I’ve had came with the idea of trying. I practice like I’ve never won before. Expose your ideas and be creative, the little things make the real change. Being creative means losing our fear of rejection. Think outside the box and be unique. Be one of a kind!” What inspired you to study interior design? I always liked spaces and I always knew what I wanted for my living space. I had complete freedom from my parents to design the room of my dreams and to express myself; whether I drew on the walls or even got my friends involved in it as well. Colors and spaces were my passion, I decided to explore it further. I would collect books on architecture, interior design and my inspirations resulted from these. How does interior design relate to fashion design? There has always been a link between interior design and fashion design. There are many design principles that both fields share; be it creating furnishings for a space or an ensemble of clothing: determining a focal point, creating the silhouette and balancing proportions and details. Playing with materials in hand, experimenting with them and being inspired by them. What was the inspiration behind the Wataniya Airways crew’s uniform design? The flow of the W in Wataniya really gave me all inspiration. You can clearly see it expressed in multiple ways throughout the designs. Notice the ruffles on the skirts and sleeves of the female uniforms give off the flow of the letter W. In the hats, which were hand-made by me, I combined two lines, giving off the vibe of the letter W. Also, great attention has been given to the smallest details, I added the logo to the buttons, and the letter W on the belts. It was also important for me to incorporate Wataniya Airways’ branding strategy as part of the design - a perfect combination of a sense of welcoming hospitality, a fun experience, a young and fresh approach.

What were the difficulties you faced in the process? During the very initial stages of my first Wataniya Airways interview, I had two queries: “What are your brand values?” and “What are your color preferences?” We dealt with the branding strategy and values first off and it was clear to me that I would want to reflect that in my designs. Their color preferences were ‘grey and purple’. This is where I was challenged; I began wondering how I could effectively combine their values and colors and create something. In the study of colors, the color purple represents luxury, royalty and pride. The color grey, on the other hand, is often associated with dullness and depression, and that’s why it was difficult for me to associate these two colors together. Having said that, I am extremely happy with the outcome. What was your favorite piece to design? The female uniform was definitely more fun to design, given all the details that would go into it, but it was also surely the most challenging experience, after all an airlines’ uniforms have to follow certain guidelines and norms. What did you gain from this experience? And would you take on more fashionrelated projects? It was indeed a learning curve for me. My personal growth as a designer and enthusiast is amplified with this experience. I learnt to stand for what I believe in. Such projects attract many opinions, but as a designer, with a clear vision, I had to affirm my views and prove myself to be able to do my best. I am proud to be working on the designs of my very own collection and hopefully it will be launched soon. What are your future plans with Wataniya Airways? For the time being it has been a pleasure to be associated with them and to design the uniforms and it makes me proud that they are happy with the outcome as well. Hopefully, they will keep me in mind for any future projects they might have.

H&M Home Holiday 2017 The Winter Garden comes alive This holiday season, H&M Home evokes the mystique of a winter garden. Think decadent red amaryllis, fresh green pine branches and crisp white hyacinth set against a twinkling night sky. Cozy textures, soft candlelight and luxe accents make the perfect setting for gathering friends and family around the dinner table or simply spending a relaxed and warm moment together. Lush floral patterns and chic metallic add a touch of glamour to the holiday season.

There are three interpretations of the Winter Garden: Classic, Natural and Golden. The Classic Winter Garden revolves around the traditional red of the season, but with a more sophisticated and luxurious feel where glass and brass objects come in modernist shapes. The Natural Winter Garden is all about the forest – deep green pine, mosses and tree bark – enveloped in a casual, rustic setting. The Golden Winter Garden calls to mind a snowy landscape under the stars with white and gold as the driving forces, the glitter and gleam contrasted with fuzzy fabrics and soft knits. “The holiday season offers a time for reflection – thinking about who you are and what you cherish. Create an environment that belongs to you and your family, something that feels personal and true to you. Colour and texture become increasingly important, and this is where blankets, throw pillows and a variety of light sources really come in handy” says Evelina Kravaev Söderberg, Head of Design at H&M Home.

Porsche’s new 911 GT3 model with Manual Transmission Now available with a Touring Package without a rear spoiler Kuwait. New addition to the Porsche range of puristic driving cars: The 911 GT3 with Touring Package has been unveiled! It is available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, and instead of the fixed rear wing it has a variable rear spoiler like the 911 Carrera. The name “Touring Package” harks back to a model variant of the classic 911 Carrera RS from 1973. Even then, the puristic 911 design language and classic interior features were a key element. The new 911 GT3 with Touring Package adopts and modernises this concept. This variant is aimed at enthusiasts of high-quality sports cars who value an understated appearance and pure driving dynamics.
the talk - page 154
Beneath its understated exterior is pure motorsport technology: The fourlitre naturally aspirated engine, taken from motorsport, reaches 500 hp (368 kW) and generates 460 Nm of torque. In combination with optimal gear changes, the 911 GT3 with Touring Package sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds reaching a top speed of 316 km/h. With the exception of the rear, the body of the GT3 remains unchanged in this variant. Although front and rear lights are identical, they are not dark-tinted as is the case in the 911 GT3. The subtle structural features are first visible at the rear end. The wing of the extending rear spoiler from the series-production 911 is equipped with an aerodynamic downforce edge (Gurney flap) in the vehicle body colour. The exclusively designed rear lid bears the “GT3 touring” logo. Other distinguishing features include the silver trim detailing on the side windows, sports exhaust tailpipes and headlight washer covers, as well as the Porsche logo at the rear. Customers can also opt for the “Black Exterior Touring Package”, offering the before mentioned elements in black including front and rear lights finished in a dark tint. The interior embodies the feel of a classic sports car. In line with the character of a puristic GT, premium leather is used throughout the cabin, including the steering wheel trim with twelve o’clock marker, shift lever, door panel armrests, centre console storage compartment lid and door handles complimented by black stitching detail. The seat centre panels are made of luxury black fabric, with the Porsche crest embossed on the headrests. The finishing trim details in the interior are done in brushed aluminium in black. the talk - page 155
