COMMUNITY NEWS
Thinking About Selling Your Home?
ARE YOU BLOCKING TRAFFIC? One of the largest complaints that we receive in the community is that home owners, and their guests, are parking on the streets. Vehicles parked on the Windermere streets create issues for our overall thoroughfare within the community. They also obstruct access for public and emergency vehicles to be able to provide the services that we need.
Do you need a closing letter? What should the For Sale sign look like? How much are the fees (transfer fee, capital contribution)? PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS. Amenity Cards: the amenity access cards should be given to the buyer at closing from seller. If not, the buyer or seller may purchase them from the association for $25 per card (maximum of 2 cards).
Many residents know that our roads are public, and therefore they are maintained, monitored, and enforced by county and state laws. And, even though our founding covenants prohibit excessive street parking, they are not legally enforceable. In other words, if a vehicle is legally parked on a public road, we do not have the authority to take action against it. For that reason, we are not able to impose/ enforce legal or financial repercussions when certain neighbors choose to go against what our expectations are. Since we all moved into this wonderful community, with an expectation of cars not being parked on the street, PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES

Golf Cart Safety
The Board of Directors is asking for your cooperation and assistance.
We as a Board are very concerned about the rise of unlicensed youths operating golf carts. In the event you don’t know the Georgia laws in this area, please see the information below that was prepared by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The bottom line is that no person should be at the wheel of a golf cart unless they have a valid drivers’ license. In the coming weeks, the Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up enforcement of the Georgia Code. If the situation doesn’t resolve itself, the Sheriff’s Office has informed us that parents may be ticketed for allowing their children to illegally operate these vehicles. As always, please call 911 or the non-emergency number (770-781-3087) to report suspicious persons as well as unsafe or illegal operation of a motor vehicle. Windermere Board of Directors

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the nation and so many of you had been asking how we could get some courts here at Windermere. The tennis courts previously know as Courts 11 & 12 have been converted into six permanent pickleball courts. In dedicating Courts 11 and 12 to pickle ball, the designated “walk-on” courts are now the two courts at Bennington. There will still be no reservations for the walk-on courts and please keep in mind that they do not have lights or bathroom facilities.

FORSYTH COUNTY
News from the
Forsyth Chamber of Commerce
Highest Level of Excellence
Don Hendricks Partnership Award Last month, more than 400 guests joined the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and Forsyth County Schools for the annual Celebration of Excellence. This celebration of educators and community partners showcased the factors that make Forsyth County schools the best in the state. One award that stands out above the rest is the Don Hendricks Partnership Award. The 2020 recipient of this award was Georgia Highlands Medical Services. The Hendricks family established this award in 2002 after the passing of Don Hendricks, a long-time member of the Board of Education. He believed in the Forsyth County School System and its quest for quality learning and superior performance for all. This year’s recipient is an organization that has been in Forsyth County since 1979. For decades, they
have served countless numbers of students and their families with medical care regardless of income level, insurance status or language spoken. For the past two years, they have provided free health screenings and helped local families complete more than six hundred 3300 forms at no cost. These forms must be completed before a student can start school. Additionally, this partner works with the entire school district on the Forsyth County Schools’ birth through age five initiative, Children 1st. Children 1st identifies and screens children from birth to age five who have medical and social issues that may place them at risk for poor health or development. Georgia Highlands’ involvement in these two projects have meant that students can start school healthy, prepared and ready to learn. The impact they have made on Forsyth County Schools is lasting and unparalleled. Congratulations to Georgia Highlands Medical Services, the 2020 Don Hendricks Partner of the Year!

FORSYTH COUNTY
Together 4 FoCo In recent weeks the Forsyth Chamber took the lead on supporting the Forsyth County business community in dealing with the economic consequences of COVID-19. On Monday, March 16th the Chamber launched Together4FOCO. Together4FOCO was created to engage the Forsyth County community and keep residents and businesses connected during a challenging time to lend support to one another. This launch included an aggressive social media campaign, a new, stand-alone website (www.Together4FOCO.com) and platform (via an open Facebook Group: Together4FOCO) for local businesses to communicate their services and products that may be useful to the community as well as to secure services, guidance and products that will improve their ability to respond to economic consequences of COVID-19. The Chamber has also launched a series of virtual meetings where local businesses can hear from subject matter experts and other opportunities for the Forsyth community to respond positively to the challenges ahead. Please lean-in digitally with us in these efforts by completing surveys, passing along content and sharing both your needs and resources with the entire FoCo business community. All of these opportunities can be found on www.together4foco.com and on the Together4FOCO Facebook group. The Chamber’s mission is and always has been to advance positive business growth and community partnerships to promote a superior quality of life in Forsyth County. This mission is the same no matter the circumstance and it is our pleasure to work toward this mission no matter the season. Please know that the Chamber is here for you and for every business and for every resident of Forsyth County.

The Mysterious Coyote
With the recent Windermere Facebook posts regarding coyotes in the area, I decided to do some research on the subject and present some facts. First of all, what exactly does a coyote look like? Resembling a small dog in appearance, distinguishing characteristics of a coyote include pointy ears and snout, mottled color fur pattern ranging from black to reddish-blonde and a bushy tail. As with most canines, coyotes have keen eyesight and an acute sense of smell to seek out their diet of small mammals, carrion (the flesh of dead animals) and succulent vegetation. High pitched shrieks or yips can be heard late in the evening as they communicate. Growling, barking and whining are also common. There was a very informative article about coyotes in the Buckhead area a few years ago. The editor consulted with AWARE (Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort). According to AWARE, coyotes now reside in every state and most neighborhoods from Canada to South America. The destruction of their natural habitat has forced these wild animals to become urban dwellers. Coyotes would rather coexist than cause trouble. Reacting appropriately when they are spotted is the key to dealing with them. AWARE statistics: · Coyotes attack on humans an average of 14 per year, while dog attacks on humans equal 4.7 million per year. · Coyotes will occasionally take a free-roaming cat if you don’t protect it as you would your dog. When it comes to dogs, however, coyotes would rather befriend them than fight. · When a coyote passes within 30 feet of humans, it is usually not considered an act of aggression. · People should show they are dominant species by frightening coyotes humanely. This can be done by yelling, waving your arms or squirting him with a garden hose. · Never feed your pets outside or leave them in the dark... and never allow children to play outside unattended (if you feel they are in the area). · Trash should be well maintained to eliminate food sources for the coyotes. Hope this bit of information helps to clarify how we should deal with these mysterious animals.

Lodge & Fitness Center
In consultation with the association’s professional team, including the association manager, attorney, insurance provider, and other business partners, the Board has been planning for contingencies that may arise in the community as a result of the spread of COVID-19. Based on advice that has been circulated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Georgia Department of Health, we have made the tough decision to close the fitness center until further notice. Fitness center usage is suspended until conditions improve and guidance and advice from the CDC and other government officials are confident that operations may resume. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 24
