SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS

A NOTE FROM THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE: I still hear stories of people that do not hear about our events here in the neighborhood! If you have new neighbors, introduce yourselves, and make sure they are signed up to receive emails, are on the Homeowners private Facebook page, the Traditions Community Facebook page, and that they are getting the newsletter! If everyone is on these 4 avenues there is no way of not knowing what is going on in the neighborhood!!! If you are not receiving emails from Traditions… Please make sure you go to the Community website at http://www.traditionsofbraselton.org/ and update your email settings. Under the Subscriptions Section make sure that both the All Members and the Social settings are checked to receive the emails from us. If your email address has changed please make sure to update that as well. Also,

Traditions of Braselton

Traditions has grown so much our events are RSVP! The only way we can plan is to have everyone RSVP even for free events (remember if you rsvp for free events…we plan on you being there). We purchase according to the rsvp…so if you do not show up, it is money wasted). There also will be events that are for residents only so watch the details on each event! SUNDAY FUNDAY A free concert by Departure the Ultimate Journey Band was a hit for our first Sunday Funday! We want to thank Giovannis Italian Ice and Tex’s Mex for all the wonderful food. A great thanks to Paige Brooks with Universal for providing pizza as well!!!! Our next Sunday Funday will be August 16th! Watch for further details.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS 4th OF JULY We know how to celebrate our freedom here at Traditions. What a fun afternoon rock in out to Redneck Blonde!!!! Thank you to Danella Burnett and Oakwood Occasions for the scrumptious food and to Kona Ice keeping us cool!! Congratulations to Colton Holt for best decorated bike and to the Coulter family for the best decorated golf cart! This is the Coulter’s 2nd year in a row winning best cart!!! Who will beat them next year?

IT IS THE 4TH ANNUAL SHEILA FEST! Planning is well under way and we are super excited for this year’s event. When we planned the first festival it was just a neighborhood event that has grown into a community event and I could not be happier! The Community is what it is all about. Love thy neighbor!

Sponsors & Vendors Sponsorship and vendor opportunities for all 3 events are available now! If you have a company or know someone that would be interested in donating to the silent auction or would like to sponsor any of the events...please contact us! Let us make this year’s event spectacular!!!

Charitable Contributions This year’s event will benefit iServe Ministries again. It is so important that we honor all that Jeff and Sherry Grant do for our community. Last year we were able to donate $10,100 to the ministry and I am hoping that we can double that this year!

Volunteer Information If you would like to volunteer to help with planning, helping get sponsorships and/or donations for any of the three events please contact:

Golf Tournament The Sheila Fest Golf Tournament will take place on Friday, October 23rd. Along with the Golf Course’s new management Jim Strong and Kent Hall & Company taking over the tournament, I know that this year’s Golf Tournament will be the best ever! Charity Dinner and Auction The Charity Dinner and Auction will take place the evening of Friday, October 23rd. Jason Lee has graciously offered to take this event over and again. I could not be happier!! I am sure it will be bigger and better than last year! Music Fest & Fun The Sheila Fest Music Festival will be on Saturday, October 24th. You do not want to miss this fun day of music and fellowship!

The question we get most often is "Why is it called SheilaFest?" “In 2015, one of our beloved residents and social committee members – Sheila Anderson – had a massive heart attack and nearly lost her life. A true music lover, Sheila was inspired by her second shot at life to launch a music festival at Traditions of Braselton. The festival is named as a living tribute to her – after all, that’s what this community is all about… those special individuals that are an integral part of the whole. Sheila’s ideas, connections to local bands and countless hours of work to pull together something amazing with the help of her friends and neighbors in the community resulted in one of the largest events Traditions of Braselton has ever hosted. We expect this year to be even bigger and better than ever. I – for one – can’t wait!”

SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS So, what does iServe do? In 2019, iServe gave away

$1,980,000 worth of food to those in need

THE ISERVE VISION To end generational poverty in the communities we serve through meeting practical needs and teaching life skills

iServe’s mission is to bridge the gap between the body of Christ (the church) and the community, together with one another serving those in need and teaching them skills that lead to change. Our hope is that the change brings an end to the generational poverty in their lives and families. Our mission currently drives two community programs, a weekend backpack program to 250 local families with children in school who participate in the free and reduced lunch program and a mobile food pantry, held three times per month, serving on average 750 families per month. With a vision for a future where the families that we serve are able to end the cycle of generational poverty that many of them are in, we are seeking partners to help us continue running successful outreach programs, to offer free or reduced cost services to individuals seeking to learn practical life and work skills, and to employ “graduates” of the iServe program.

OUR PROGRAMS

Nearly 40,000 people in the counties that we serve are living under the food insecurity rate

Each mobile food pantry provides 30,000lbs of food for up to 500 families for just $800 In 2019 iServe’s Feeding Northeast Georgia food pantries served 30,000 people in need in our community.

Over 60% of children in our community are eligible for free or reduced lunch

A Bags of Love backpack provides 24 meals for a family for just $6/week Each week 250 backpacks are delivered by volunteers to local schools

Would you consider partnering with us? Jeff: 407-761-3659

Your Greatest Asset

Before I tell you my secret, think of something you cherish and consider an asset (definition: a useful and desirable thing or quality; a single item of ownership having exchange value). It may be your house, bank account, or a precious heirloom handed down to you from a grandparent. Let me share a story about something of value that I abused and almost lost for good. My phone. I keep my phone in a protective (supposedly) case which should protect it from damage because I cannot seem to not drop my phone. I am usually careless or try to carry too many things at one time. The first time I dropped my phone it left a small crack in the glass. The damage was minimal but the second drop made the crack bigger and each time I dropped it the crack got a bigger until finally, the final drop cracked the whole length of the screen, made a small hole in the glass and glass flakes were coming off. My phone was now damaged, inoperable, and possessed, flashing and acting funny and doing all kinds of funky things. With frustration, I took it in for repair and immediately when to the store for a new case/cover. I wanted the most expensive/protective case I could find so this would never happen again! I was willing to pay whatever price to protect my phone! Now, back to the asset that came to your mind. What lengths would you go to protect or not lose that asset? Are you willing to do or pay whatever price to cherish and protect it? Have you ever considered that your body and health are one of your best assets and can never be

COVERAGE Let Go and Let God FOR THE THINGS YOU CARE FOR

V O I C E, V I E W & O P I N I O N

How long will those who call on Jesus as Lord doubt that He is a miracle working God? The Lord wants you to trust Him and step out of your comfort zones where you have allowed religion to train and nurture a heart of fear, skepticism, and doubt. Allow the Lord to fan the flames of your heart that you may know and experience Him in a deeper way. Matthew 14:25-31 “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, it is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be, thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and

caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” Jesus Christ will never let you sink in your life where His hands cannot grab and lift you up and out! All you need to do is call out for Him as a child would call for a parent when there is fear present. Children trust that their parents will do the impossible to save them. Matthew 7:11, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Jesus is waiting for you to abandon your scripted life of shameful religion that keeps you tied to people and things that drag you down. Step out of that boat of familiarity and give Christ Jesus the reigns. Our Lord is soon to return for the church, and we want you to be rapture ready! Let go and let God!

GOLF GROUPS COUPLES GOLF

This group has three consecutive tee times every Sunday morning. In Spring, Summer and Fall, they begin play at 9:30 AM. More tee times can be added depending on how many couples wish to play. Please contact Lynn Kolb at 706-824-0247 or galynn20@yahoo.com for more information. Every Tuesday, Lynn sends a text to interested parties asking for a response by Saturday morning. All are welcome to join in and they look forward to adding more couples as the weather warms up. *Couples on Sunday – Noon during winter.

LADIES’ GOLF GROUP

Currently, the ladies have standing tee times Monday through Friday in the morning. If you are interested in joining the Ladies Golf Group (even occasionally), please email Pam Poppe at poppepampaul@gmail.com. Each Friday, Pam sends an email to the group asking which days you are interested in golfing during the coming week. She only asks for a 48-hour notice so she can add or cancel tee times. Do not worry about handicaps since the skill levels vary widely. These women golf for fun!

SENIOR MEN’S GOLF GROUP

The senior men gather to play an organized format of stroke play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You never know who you will get paired with on these days, so it’s a great opportunity to meet your fellow neighbors and make new friends. On Thursdays, it’s just pair-up and play with whomever you like (assuming they

want to play with you too). The course is closed on Tuesdays. Currently, our block of tee times starts at 9:30 AM. You can play as often or as little as you like; just show up at least 15 minutes before the first tee time. This is a social group with members of varying skill levels. Once the virus is behind us and the expected updates are made to the restaurant, every spring and fall the men will again gather with their significant others at the club for a fun evening of dinner and fellowship. Currently with the virus, we will continue to play as we are able. With respect to social distancing, there will be a one per person per cart. To ease the crunch for cart that this is causing, the Club has waived the rule against driving your persona; cart as long as it does not have studded tires or is a high rider. For more information, contact Steve Morrell at shmorrell44@gmail.com or at 1-706-654-6034 (h) or at 770-861-610 (c).

MEN’S GROUP (MGA) Come out and meet your neighbors in a fun and welcoming group. The TOB men have weekly organized games on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM and Saturdays/Sundays starting at 8:00 AM. We also sponsor diverse and fun monthly tournaments throughout the year. The MGA has neighbors of all skill levels and ages. Membership Information CREATING YOUR CLUB Traditions Golf and Country Club is becoming the club the community has always desired – beginning with a multi-million dollar renovation to include improvements to the course, facilities, and practice area. There’s never been a better time to join! THE COURSE Already widely known as the best golf layout in the area, and the best is only getting better. The first of several course improvements will include removing our current bunkers and replacing them with the Capillary Concrete Bunker System. A concentrated effort to create better air flow for our bent grass greens will provide better putting conditions throughout the year. Additionally, each hole will be addressed to create a more enjoyable round while maintaining the original layout. THE MEMBER FACILITIES AND RESTAURANT The facility improvements will contain a completely new members facility and restaurant run by the area’s best, Jack Ansley. The new restaurant, Twenty7, will have a 200-seat capacity, a full bar, a beautiful outdoor area which overlooks a nine-hole putting course. The lighted putting course and patio will provide an inviting atmosphere that you and your fellow members will want to be a part of! The creation of a members-only facility will provide spacious areas to mingle with other members, grab a delicious meal, or just relax and enjoy your club. THE PRACTICE FACILITY The driving range upgrade will provide better range balls, aiming greens, targets, and the ability to receive insightful instruction. The addition of a dedicated short game area will give you all the tools needed to improve your game from 50 yards and in to lower your handicap.
