nother year has come to an end, and another has just begun. So, now that the New Year is here, what resolutions are you going to make? Making New Year’s resolutions is a time-honored tradition all around the world. We all hope for a better future - especially when the year we’re leaving behind has been a tough one. According to research on the topic, about 60 percent of us admit that we make New Year’s resolutions but only about 8 percent of us are successful in achieving them. Regardless of whether we achieved our previous resolutions, most of us go right ahead and make a new set of resolutions hoping for the best. Here are a few more interesting facts about New Year’s resolutions:
These ideas will add power to your New Year resolutions. If you are obsessed to make this year better than any of the previous years, these ideas can lead you to a jackpot: Celebrate your victories: Never start new plans with the reminiscences of what all you failed to achieve in the past. Instead, create a success ledger for yourself. Run through all the victories, you have sketched in the year 2019 or earlier. Howsoever small those might seem to be, winning moments always empower you to achieve big!
8 Saving money is one of the top five New Year’s resolutions and also in the top five for most commonly failed. 8 More than half of respondents said they fail their resolution before January 31. 8 Women make health-focused resolutions while men pledge to find a new job and lay off the alcohol.

The Times of Canada -JAN 2020
1 Don’t think super big: If you wish to smile at your success in December 2020, stay away from making lofty deals with your commitments. Thinking huge and messing up with it would be fruitless. Think big, be humble and rational with your expectations. 2 Create blueprint: Set benchmarks and define milestones of your desires in advance. This should become the roadmap for 2020. 3 Know what not to do: In place of making a list of all ‘to do’s’, first look at a few eliminations from your daily routine. For example, I will not touch my phone for the first 30 minutes of the day, or I will not abuse anyone in my social circle etc. 4 Go stage-wise: Break your plans in parts and schedule the elements stepwise. Have a monthly, quarterly, half-yearly plan in place. The summation of all these should converge into an annual dream! 5 Stretch your thoughts: Never copy paste resolutions from the repository available on the internet. Be creative in designing your resolutions. Must ensure this year becomes the most exceptional year of your life. 6 Disembark comfort: While planning your resolutions, do not allow your comfort zone to sell you procrastination. Be ready to accept discomfort. 7 Be realistic: Planning for a diamond when you have no access to the silver won’t be worthwhile! Sheer optimism may not work; add authenticity to your goals. In place of being optimistic, work to optimize your current resources. Explore your hunger to set the limits you intend to push yourself ahead. 8 Self Check: Always take a break and check – Am I moving in the desired direction? Are my activities keeping me glued to my core ambition? Are my resolutions being serviced? Thus, we can add the element of focus and direction in our activities. 9 Set reminders: Keep your dreams ignited by firing your resolutions regularly. Read this column on the first of every month, for the next 13 months continuously. Wake up every day to hypnotize your brain with a soft reminder of your resolutions. Such reminders can create wonders. 10 Expect setbacks: While you plan big for the new year ahead, do provision for contingencies. There would always be surprises in your life, and at least 30% of your engagements might get occupied with unplanned activities.
21,61,91 Rule It takes about 21 days to install a habit, that’s the period required by neurons in our brain to form a compelling pattern of behaviour. Start early, do not wait for 1st January to make those resolutions. Make your mind comfortable with new ideas in these 21 days. Remain consciously and forcefully committed and stick to your plan. -One of the best idea is the resolution must be dealt with the occasion of commitment and survey. -Consistency in the subsequent 40 days would weld your new habits into your routine. Thus, by the time others start off with New Year resolutions, you would already be working out advanced plans! -When any new pattern of behavior is regularly practiced for 90 plus days, it makes a permanent mark in our brain.
Easy life, fast gratifications, magical results are zero gain thoughts. Go for a fresh set of commitments only if you think, growth means oxygen for your existence. If, ‘easy-going life’, ‘pass your days as those evolve’ etc. is your attitude – ignore the concept of resolutions. That’s fine. In case you are ready to slog your best and receive significant outputs in return, do not just read this column – study the contents and reflect upon the ideas shared. One mobile technology expert shared that it takes almost a year’s research and development work for them to deliver an upgrade version of their product. Today, we all can resolve to come up with an upgrade version of ourselves in the next twelve months.

COVER STORY
YOUNG
ENTREPRENEURS The Next Generation & their Success Story
“
For us at Spring Travels, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE HIGHEST PRIORITY. -Gurleen Chhatwal, Navbeer Chhatwal, Jaskeerat Chhatwal
We recently got a chance to sit down with the team of Spring Travels to talk about their life story, the reasons behind their success in younger age. 1. Tell us about yourself and your background. When did you come to Canada & what kind of jobs you did prior to becoming a Businessman? We are a family of 5, all born and raised in Ludhiana, India. We moved to Canada in 2011 after becoming permanent residents of Canada. Having a business background in the family, since high school our father included all three of us in the business. 2. When did you decide to become a business owner? By the summer of 2012, we decided to open a travel business under the name “Spring Travels”. 3. Who is your inspiration as a Businessman, if any? We look up to our father, Mr. Gurjit Chhatwal. Our father taught us the need to invest in yourself before you invest in anything else, by focusing on improving your skills, education, and experience. Without self-investment, you won’t be able to build a business, let alone sustain one. At the age of 14, our father started his journey in the business industry. He began to show interest in father’s business and now holds more than 35 years of experience.
“
4. There are so many travel businesses in the lower mainland, why should someone prefer you? Spring Travels is a “customer service oriented” travel agency which makes us unique compared to our competitors. In the industry, we are known for our customer service and extraordinary travel experiences. Our company, Spring Travels is a professionally managed company, possessing extensive knowledge, expertise, and resources, specializing in conceptualizing and execution of events, group tours, business/ trade delegations, business seminars across the globe. We, at Spring Travels, have the expertise to provide our customers with the best customer service and seamless experiences. Our travel specialists are highly experienced and have the extraordinary product knowledge to assist our clients with their travel experiences. Over the past few years, we have helped thousands of customers to find their ideal travel destination. Our company is designed to match the unique needs of our customers, assisting us to better understand their travel desires, offer tailor-made solutions and build long-term partnerships
10
The Times of Canada -JAN 2020 5. What strategies are you using to promote your business? Initially, in 2012, we started promoting our business using radio and newspaper advertisements. As technology advanced we began to promote our travel agency using online platforms such as google, yelp, and 411.ca. The most effective way of promoting our business is word of mouth. Due to our extraordinary service, our clients refer us to their friends and family. Also, recently after the launch of our new website we have started to advertise our business on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media outlets. Our new website enables our clients to search, find and book flights while being anywhere in the world. 6. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? Over the past few years, we have experienced vast growth in the business. The journey is far from over and we continue to grow. We are in the process of expanding, which includes our new website allowing our customers to book with ease. Additionally, we also look forward to expanding our physical locations in Canada. In the next 5 years, we plan to be BC’s one of the top travel agencies with exceptional customer service. For us at Spring Travels, customer service is the highest priority.
7. What have you learned from this career? The most important lesson we have learned so far is that nothing beats the hard work. Hard work outweighs talent and intelligence and is necessary if you want to succeed. This not only means working hard when things are going well but working harder when things are not. It means taking calculated risks and sticking with them, no matter how challenging they are. Another important lesson we have learned is that good customer service is the key to achieve success in the business. 8. What is your opinion on the condition of the market in the lower mainland and what will be its future? The travel industry is growing at roughly 2% per year but also the competition is growing as well. Barriers to entering the industry are not too high which attracts more competitors to enter. In Surrey, there are about 200 + travel agencies which shows that the competition is rising. On the other hand, the population in Surrey is also increasing making the travel industry stable.

T
he new year is a great time to organize your affairs to effect your life vision, which includes reviewing your will. If you do not have a will in place, below are some of the reasons that you should consider making one. If you already have one, now is a good time to ensure it still meets your needs and update it, if necessary. If you have minor children, the most important reason to have a will is to ensure that someone you trust will raise your children if something were to happen to you as you can appoint a guardian for your children in your will. If you do not have a will, the court will decide who will act as your children’s guardian. Through your will, you get to decide how your estate will be distributed. You can disinherit individuals who would otherwise stand to inherit. You can make gifts to specific organizations that support the causes close to you allowing your legacy to live on. If you do not have a will, your estate will be distributed according to the provisions of the Wills, Estates, and Succession Act. You decide who will wind up the affairs of your estate by appointing executors. You’ll want to be sure to appoint someone who is honest, trustworthy, and organized as executors are responsible for administering your estate, including taking care of all your assets and distributing them. Above are some of the reasons it may be beneficial for you to have a will. If you need legal advice tailored to your specific circumstances, please do not hesitate to contact us. avigating real estate purchases and sales involving large sums of money can be an aggressive prospect. My job is to make the job smoothly and appropriate. Notaries public can help with many non-contentious legal matters, including conveyance for the purchase, sale and mortgage of property.
What are the three main things your Notary will do for you during property purchase, sale or mortgage? 1) Your Notary is the bridge between you and the buyer or seller: Allow your Notary to act as the intermediary
between the two parties involved in the real estate transaction. Your Notary is your representative, and has your best interests at heart. 2) Your Notary’s job is to protect you during the deal: You’re not likely to be comfortable handing over large sums of cash to a buyer you don’t know, and similarly, you would not want to release your property’s title without guarantee of payment. Your Notary will ensure the transaction goes perfectly and payment is made on time. 3) Your Notary will ensure all the proper paperwork is filed: During the transaction, a central part of your Notary’s job is to ensure that funds are calculated and adjusted accordingly and that all the appropriate paperwork is completed and registered so that title to the property is transferred. Your Notary Public will give you peace of mind by handling all of the necessary details of your real estate purchase, sale or mortgage.

ith the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics fast approaching, Abbotsford wrestler Jasmit Singh Phulka’s dreams of representing the red and white at the event may become a reality. For years, Phulka has earned his wrestling stripes on the local, national and international stages and with success at key events later this year; the 25-year-old could represent Canada on the world stage. The Times of Canada has also presented him an award for the Excellency in Sports in the Diwali Gala 2019. Not only this, he was also a lucky winner of Honda Civic Car in that event.
The Times of Canada -JAN 2020
I am Jasmit Phulka and won several laurels in my wrestling career. I am partaking in Olympics 2020 and several other biggest sports events in the world. It was on October 25th, 2019, when I received Excellency in Sports Award from The Times of Canada. That day, all my family members were also present at the event. The Times of Canada Diwali Gala 2019 was a feast for the eyes for every community member present there. It was all started with the Guard of Honor by Canadian police which was to pay a tribute to the living legend Mr. Baltej Singh Dhillon. Needless to say, it was an icing on the cake when the parade started and all the dignitaries of the town were present and lightening up the lamp. After that, various awards were presented to the people who excelled in their own fields and I was also one of the luckiest to receive this honor in sports category, Excellency in Sports Award was presented to me by the renowned personalities of the town. Then, there was a time for raffles, when round of draws were made and they gave gifts to the winners, live on the stage such as 2 LED TV Screens, Recliner Chair, Gold Ring, Silver Earrings & so on.
JASMIT PHULKA
Winner of 7th Annual Car Giveaway on Diwali Gala 2019
Fortunately, once again I heard my name announced on the stage for Big LED Screen TV. It was an awestruck moment for me as I had never imagined that I would win something like this too. The Car Draw was followed by Malkit Singh’s Live Performance and dinner. It was the first time as per the TOC Team that they had to make round of draws to finalize the winner as the tickets of first five rounds has to be cancelled. This was due to the rule that the Car winner has to be present during the draw. Finally, I was the fortunate one who won the car at the Sixth Round. This was one of my most cherished moment of my life. My Heartiest wishes to The Times of Canada Team to make my dream turning into reality. Thank You Once Again Jasmit Phulka

A Motivational Short Story
Starting a business is tough and challenging on all fronts. Here’s some wisdom that may ease your load as you navigate new terrain.
Journey from ordinary Students to Business Owners Arvinder Singh and Lovepreet Singh of Maple Travels Ltd. The duo Arvinder Singh and Lovepreet Singh of 23 years of age, were raised in a small village near Khanna, and earned their Bachelor’s in Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality from the small town. They are childhood friends who were having extra-ordinary ambitions in their life to do something really gigantic but had no vision or any mission as such for their career. Nevertheless, their family members, relatives and friends used to always criticise them for their English communications skills and denounced them for their future plan of action. After completing their studies in 2016, they joined IELTS classes in a very renowned Maple Institute, Head Office in Khanna, Punjab (India). From here, it all began on one stormy night in May, 2017; they got a call from the management of the Company where they were just common students. Recognising their potential, the owner of the institute presented them with an opportunity to join their organisation as partners and to give a start to the travel business. That is how Maple Travels was born. Soon, they became an integral part of the Maple family and have given a great input in the growth of the Maple Group. Along with running the travel business which is blooming now, they have also given a stupendous contribution to the visa department of the company, where they counsel the potential clients who wish to go abroad for study, work, business, and pleasure. Fortunately, they have a very high success rate so far and expeditiously, became the most outstanding firm of the region. Arvinder Singh: Remember, never give up and always believe in yourself in spite of rejection. Early in our life, we tend to seek security and stability by staying in our comfort zone and become reluctant to challenge our limits; you should consider your limitation and challenge these insecurities. By doing so, there is a possibility that you will discover something new in your life such as new passion or talent that will lead you to your success.
Both of them, now run Maple Travels, independently which caters to the travel needs of clients including air tickets, hotel bookings and tour packages. While handling these two parts of the business aesthetically, these young men have visited more than 20 countries and counting on, in order to gain knowledge and experience which is helping them grow more in their career and in life in such a short span of time.As some experts say Good teachers are the reason which makes ordinary students to dream to do extraordinary things. Eventually, the 25 years old young men too landed up multifold golden opportunities to expand their business round the globe and earning appreciation for their endeavours from the pioneers of the industry. Lovepreet Singh: When you have defined your key strength or weakness, it is time to think about your challenges. Enjoying every step in your success career is also an integral part of the process. Be it sad or happy, easy or difficult paths, ups or downs, you should make sure to use them as a motivation to achieve your goals.

This mantra is known as the Maha-mantra of Kaliyug (the supreme mantra of Kaliyug – the present era of machine where truth and righteousness are at their lowest level.) It has been said that by repeating this mantra with faith and devotion, one can attain salvation and peace of mind. The meaning of Hare Krishna Mantra This mantra is made up of only three words : ‘Hare’,
Krishna and ‘Rama’. ‘Krishna’ and ‘Rama’ are the name of Lord Vishnu – one of the mythological God in the trinity of Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. It is said that in every yug (era). Vishnu takes incarnation on earth to establish the law of truth and righteousness. Ram is the name of the incarnation of Vishnu in the Treta Yug (you must have heard the famous story of Ramayana – the popular Indian epic. Rama is the hero of that epic. Krishna is the name of the incarnation of Vishnu in the ‘Dwaper Yug’. He is the central character in the Mahabharata (pronounced approximately as Ma-haa-BHAAR-a-ta) -the another popular epic of India (which incidentally is the longest epic of the world). Krishna is the most popular God of Hindu religion.

The Times of Canada -JAN 2020 The Bhagawad Gita – the highly spiritual and mesmerizing conversation between Krishna and Arjuna ( one of the bravest and famous character of Mahabharata ) on the battle ground of Kurukshetra is one of the most popular and respected religious books of World. Both these words ‘Rama’ and ‘Krishna’ have become powerful and effective for the simple reason that for thousands of years millions of Hindus have been praying to God by chanting these two names. The faith, devotion and a pure spiritual feeling with which these two names have been chanted by all these devotees for so many years have made these words electrifying- charged with energy. Just repeating these names can take anyone into meditation quickly.
“
A mantra is mystical energy encased in a sound structure and each mantra contains within its vibrations a certain power. But of all mantras, the maha-mantra (the Hare Krishna mantra) has been prescribed as the easiest and surest way for attaining God Realization in this present age. — George Harrison (1943-2001), in his autobiography:’I, me and Mine’
”
The word Hare has come from ‘Haran’ which means to take way or to end. So when one says Hare Krishna, he requests the God (the supreme consciousness) to take away his sorrows, his shortcomings, his failures and pains. This Hare Krishna Mantra is actually a little prayer to God for taking away all the sorrows, pains and shortcomings of the chanter and provides him bliss and joy. Whenever you chant this mantra, always keep its meaning in mind. Chant this mantra with devotion and faith. While repeating his mantra request the God almighty to take away all your sorrows, pains and failures and give you joy and bliss. It is the experience of many that when one repeat this mantra with full faith and with full awareness of its meaning, his/her whole being gets filled with Krishna Consciousness (which is a name given to the feeling of bliss and joy one gets in repeating this mantra.) This mantra is a very easy mantra. You can chant it anytime, anywhere. Give at least 15 minutes per day for this mantra repetition. Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Then either chant it silently or loudly. Repeat it with full awareness of its meaning which is as :
” O lord, take away all my sorrows, pains and shortcomings and give me bliss and joy”. This mantra is a simple and effective meditation technique. Slowly you will start enjoying it as its repetition will give you a sense of calm and bliss.

As the City of Delta wins two municipal excellence awards, TOC Team availed this opportunity to have an insight into Mayor’s personal as well as professional life.
Mayor
George V. Harvie Pledged to Achieve for DELTA
1. Mayor Harvie, please let us know more about you? I am an outdoors enthusiast and enjoy staying active through a variety of sports. As a former avid rugby player, I have transitioned to non-contact sports like running, cycling and golf over the last few decades. I continue to work on my golf game and enjoy being able to connect with friends and meet new faces on the golf course. I’ve had a recreational boat for a number of years. This allows my wife Gill and I enjoy time with our family while cruising in the Gulf and San Juan islands. 2. Could you please let us know your journey from Childhood to the Mayor? I was raised in Burnaby, British Columbia and upon completing my degree at Simon Fraser University, I began a 30-year career with the City of Burnaby. In 2000 while serving as Deputy City Manager for Burnaby, I was seconded to Delta for consideration and later appointed as Chief Administrative Officer/City Manager. My wife Gill and I have two adult children, Tim and Taryn, who we were lucky enough to raise in South Delta. During
that time, I volunteered coaching hockey and later joined Delta’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Commission prior to my career with Delta. 3. As a Mayor of Delta, what is your vision and what are you trying to accomplish in your term? I pledged to achieve for Delta. With the support of Council, we are focused on keeping Delta debt-free while continuing to lead further innovative improvements to benefit of Delta’s residents and businesses. As Mayor, I continue to seek ways to modernize certain aspects of our municipal government. I am pleased with the launch of our new Delta Families First initiative, providing much needed programs for young families across our community, including Baby Daze for new parents, and the Free Youth Admission pass for Delta kids between the ages of 10 to 18 years. As Mayor, I will also continue to work with our great community service groups to help families in Delta that need assistance. It is important that we as a community help those that are in need.
32
The Times of Canada -JAN 2020 4. Transportation is the biggest concern in Delta, what are your plans to develop this sector? Without question, my number one priority for the City of Delta is to advocate for the much-needed replacement of the aging and seismically unsafe George Massey Tunnel. The traffic bottleneck at the Massey Tunnel is the worst in all of BC – and the safety concerns are also top of mind for me. Delta residents deserve a safe and reliable commute to work. Since being elected Mayor, I continue to work with my Mayoral colleagues across the region and the Provincial Government to deliver a safe and reliable new crossing for Delta residents, fully equipped with dedicated HOV lanes, bike lanes, and the capacity for future light rail expansion. 5. Housing Affordability is the major factor to consider, what efforts you are taking to meet this goal? I will work with the community, through the Mayor’s Housing Task Force, to develop a housing plan that is supported by Delta residents and looks after everyone, including youth, seniors, and the most vulnerable. To help formulate a housing plan to provide more choices, a new Housing Action Task Force will be formed in early 2020. We need to work to bring the community together and address the issues raised by the many residents who took the time to be part of the recent Public Hearing for the 75A high rise proposal. I will ask my new Task Force to take all of this input into account and bring forward a plan that helps to bring the community together and provide the housing options we so desperately need. 6. People of Delta are expecting more recreation and entertainment facilities; could you please let us know what steps have you taken to provide these amenities to the public? Since taking office in November 2018, Delta Council and I have initiated the following improvements to Delta’s outdoor and indoor recreation infrastructure, including: aReplacement of North Delta Secondary’s track and field facility; aInstallation of Delta’s first cricket field at Delview Park, including a cricket pitch and netting; a new picnic shelter will be completed in 2020; aSynthetic turf field replacement complete at Ladner’s Holly Park; aWorking with the Delta School District to add a second turf field at Mackie Park; aLaunched three new recreation and social support programs as part of our new Delta Families First initiative: 1) Expanded Free Youth Admission Pass 2) Two-week advanced program registration for Delta residents, and 3) A free nurse-led Baby Daze post-natal support program for new parents; aOpened a new fenced off-leash area for dogs and agility yard at Delta Community Animal Shelter; aAccessibility upgrades underway at South Delta
Recreation Centre; aLaunched a multi-year Sport Court Improvement Program that includes new dedicated Pickleball courts and upgrades to tennis courts at 10 parks throughout Delta; and aEstablished a new dedicated funding source for Parks, Recreation & Culture Infrastructure. This additional funding will enable Delta to invest in further improvements and the expansion of our recreation and sports amenities. 7. Building Tunnel or Bridge to reduce congestion in Delta is also one of the leading requirement, how far we are getting to reach to a new bridge/ tunnel? We are waiting for the Provincial government to announce the next phase and steps for replacement of the George Massey Tunnel. In early October 2019, the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors endorsed an eightlane immersed tube tunnel option, but it is up to the Provincial government to make the final decision. Public consultation on the eight-lane tunnel plan is expected to begin shortly with the Province aiming to have a business case on a preferred option complete by the end of 2020. Ongoing advocacy for this project remains a key priority for myself and Delta Council. 8. What are your challenges? One of the greatest challenges in our community is ensuring that residents across South and North Delta feel like they are being treated fairly. For too long, residents in North Delta have felt a sense of alienation from their neighbours in South Delta. We have made progress in this regard by holding an equal number of Council meetings in the North and South. Transportation is definitely a big challenge for Delta. This City desperately needs better public transit to encourage people out of their vehicles. Delta Council continues to advocate and work with other levels of government for enhanced services. We are also working to reduce red tape at City Hall with an active Task Force that have assisted us in implementing changes to speed up the development process, while also reducing costs and wait times to better serve our community.
“
As Mayor of Delta, I will strive to build a stronger society that is founded on the values of peace, community and prosperity for all Delta residents. I am grateful for the trust the residents and businesses of Delta have placed in me. Delta is a wonderful community full of people who want to make this an even better place to live. Please join me in doing your part to reduce waste and conserve resources, as we work towards a brighter and cleaner future for Delta.

(AP Photo/ Eugene Hoshiko) Miraitowa is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games mascot. A traditional Japanese proverb that means to learn old things well and to acquire new knowledge from them is the origin of the mascot’s personality, combining an oldfashioned side that respects tradition and an innovative side that loves cutting-edge information and ideas. The name also reflects that, with “Mirai” meaning “future” and “Towa” meaning eternity. Highly athletic with a strong sense of justice, Miraitowa’s special skill is the ability to move anywhere instantaneously like a ninja. New Life - New Destination : Ashish & Shilpa
MOVING TO CANADA: Unlike other young couples, moving to Canada was never a dream of us. We believe that it was destined for us as we had never ever planned to settle down anywhere outside India. Nevertheless, life was really beautiful there in Delhi. However, it was Ashish’s friend, Deepak from America who was encouraging him for settling down in America. But, as we know the immigration rules of the US are bit strict and it takes a long time to get green card there. This made us to migrate to Canada. That’s how it began.
LIFE IN CANADA: Immigration
Life is not so easy in Canada .That’s what we feel when started our new life here. The complexity of it was putting adverse effect on our new bonding of marriage. This untimely struggle and to meet our both ends we both are working really hard. Due to this, our married life is also at the stake. Since, everyone is struggler here who is a beginner in Canada, no matter if you have been a successful businessman in your country. Gathering everything once again, starting from a tea cup to our own car, we had to buy everything once again for a fresh start by forgetting about our recent start in Delhi as a newly married couple where we both made our new house was really a hard step. On one hand, it was a pain inside; on the other hand, the beauty of Vancouver was mesmerizing us. After all, when our family got their visas and came here, then we felt little relaxed and now continuing our struggle today for a better life in future.

“All in All, it was an arranged
Love Mariage” -Shilpa Ashish Kaushik
Shilpa: Indeed! Life is full of surprises, and I am an honorable recipient of such unwelcomed thunderbolts too. When I grew up and met with life. I faced the real agony of it and learned that the more innocent you are, the more hard life may hit you back, Eventually, I ended up on choosing my direction of life further which was my Career. In my mid twenties, I was at the height of my career. Thus, like every career-oriented girl, I was running away from the marriage calls. These proposals were mainly from The USA, Canada, and Australia and so on which is a trivial for every Punjabi girl. However, my life changed one day dramatically. It was a sunny day of winters in January, 2017; when my mother showed me his picture over the phone. As usual, I was disinterested for marriage though I was 28 years old already. But, that look caught my eye for a fraction of second, and at that instant I ignored it. Later, I felt like to check out his profile at least for my mother’s sake as she was really stressed for my wedding. And, then I checked his picture once again in which he was standing outside the house of Indian President with a serious look on his face. And, it captivated my interest to explore him more & more. Probably, God had signalled me by changing my mind all of a sudden and my firm state of mind got fascination towards him. Like every meritorious Punjabi girl, There were myriad of proposals came at my door since I was 16 years old girl which were of course from Canada, Australia, America and so on. But not only I refused to see any profile, also I had never even looked at anyone’s picture. I was determined and committed what I wanted from my life.
“Life was a zigzag road, now got a straight way of My Destiny” - Ashish Raj Kaushik
Ashish: My life was never a straight journey. Rather, it was a zigzag way and never easy. Still, I had a hope and a strong urge that one day I am going to do something exceptional. I am a kind of person, if I do anything I do it whole-heartedly or I prefer not doing it at all. Even though, my family believed in simple living, yet Simplicity was never my cup of tea. Since, both my education and job were in Delhi, I was putting up away from my parents for my career only. During those 8-10 years of my life, I had lived, laughed and loved every moment of my life. I travelled every nook and corner of the whole world, be it America, Maldives or Singapore. There was nothing which I regret that I could not accomplish starting from my career to personal life. Moreover, those were my childhood and younger days which I luxuriated thoroughly. Except one major decision of my life that was choosing my partner. It was the time when my family started worrying as I saw and met numerous girls to choose for becoming my better-half. But, no one could make it to the last nor even stood a blink of my eye. When I was searching for my soulmate, I got to know that I am ending up on a never-ending quest. Probably, my preferences were really distinctive (laughs) I knew. But, It was now terrifying me, my family and friends, mainly due the fact that I was reaching to my thirties. We consulted priests, counselors, match-makers, but we were not succeeding anyway. I was searching for a pious soul, and was more focusing on qualities like kindness, compassion, consistency, loyalty and openness as examples, as contrast to other factors such as personality traits and ideologies which generally matter more for majority of people. Also, I supposed that if the other factors get added too, it would be the bonus for me. But, “how anyone could be that luckier?” was my thought. Eventually, it was the beautiful day of my life after a long wait of years. Finally, my search got over and I found her- my soulmate- Shilpa. I had decided it already that she is the one within just few hours of conversation. Despite the fact that I never saw her, I committed to myself that I am going to get her in anyway. It was just in 15 days, when I found all my desired qualities and even much more than that in her while conversing with her over the long distance call. However, when our families exchanged their views with each other, her family wanted me to meet her first and to know her which is a normal norm, and of course I did it more than dozens of time when met with other girls earlier to make sure if all is right. Even, sometimes more than once. This time it was just like decided or destined. Seriously, I refused to meet and see her. Rather, I asked her family if they agree on us to make things ready and if they liked us then to meet my family and to decide upon our further ceremonies. Me, my family and my closed ones, all were stunned on my instant decision. And, why should not to be, because, “It was really a spontaneous, spiritual, and smooth path created by God himself”. Later, her family insisted for our meeting and we met just for once. Eventually, It changed my life forever. Just after 3 months, we got married on 2nd June, 2017 and started our new life and were staying in South Delhi thereafter.

Helpful Hints to Make a Meal
1.Before starting to cook, always read the recipe thoroughly; get a feel for the dish and get an understanding of how the dish will be cooked and which method(s) you want to follow. The recipe may have tips and/or substitute ingredients or products that you need to purchase. 2.Always multitask to increase efficiency. Example: While you pressure cook dals, you can make the tarka on the side. 3.Chop or puree onion, garlic and chili ahead of time and store in tight lid jars in the refrigerator (keep for 4 days) or freeze in appropriate containers (keep for 2-3 months). 4.Maintain a spice cupboard. Store ground or crushed spices in an air tight jar so they are readily available for use, aiming to keep about a month’s supply of powered spices. 5.All curries and dals can be cooked up to 2 days in advance, but always garnish shortly before serving. All curries and dals can be frozen for up to 3 months. They may lose some of their flavor, so season them again with tarka and garnish before serving. 6.Vegetables can be cut and kept aside a day ahead but should be cooked a few hours before serving. The yogurt dishes should be made a few hours before serving. The dough for the roti or naan can be made a day in advance but cooked a few hours before serving. All chutney should be made the same day. Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to a week. The salad and papadums should be made about an hour before serving.

For a more spicier version, you can also sprinkle some red chili powder and garam masala. You can also idli podi or sambar powder. With a potato masher, mash the whole mixture, taking care not to break the dosa. add some more oil or butter if desired. carefully fold one part of the dosa. Now fold from the other side. Increase heat to bring to a simmer, lower heat to maintain a very low simmer for 15 minutes, uncovered. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the minced basil and remove from heat. 3 Make breadcrumb Parmesan mixture, set up bowls for dredging with flour, egg, breadcrumbs: Combine 1 1/2 cups of breadcrumbs with 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, and place in a shallow bowl or rimmed dish. Set up your station so that you have flour in one shallow bowl, beaten eggs in another bowl, and the breadcrumb cheese mixture in another, in that order. 4 Dredge eggplant rounds in flour, egg, breadcrumbs, top with olive oil: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Spread a tablespoon of olive oil each over the bottom of two rimmed baking sheet pans. Pat dry the
eggplant slices with paper towels. Working one at a time dredge the eggplant slices first in the flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and then dredge in the breadcrumb parmesan cheese mixture. Place on oiled sheet pan. Drizzle a little oil over the top of each breaded eggplant round. 5 Bake eggplant rounds: Place breaded prepared eggplant slices in the oven. Cook for 18 to 20 minutes at 425°F, turning the slices over at the half-way point, until they are nicely browned. Remove from oven and let cool to touch. 6 Layer sauce, eggplant rounds, cheeses in casserole dish: Spread 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce over the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish. Place a third of the eggplant rounds in a single layer covering the sauce on the bottom of the pan. Layer half of the sliced mozzarella on top of the eggplant rounds. Sprinkle 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Place another third of the eggplant rounds over the cheese. Spread 1 cup of the sauce over the eggplant rounds. Layer the rest of the sliced mozzarella over the sauce. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan. Add the remaining eggplant in a single layer on top of the cheese. Top with the remaining sauce and the remaining Parmesan.

Why Selfies Do More Harm Than Good? 1. Selfies create privacy risks.
4. Posting too many selfies is not a disorder yet.
Facebook is using face recognition technology (DeepFace Project) already and some experts argue that this is illegal. It is alarming to think that Facebook processes 350 million photos every day. That is providing invaluable information for commercial and other types of exploitation. But law enforcement agencies such as the FBI may have access to all this data for identifying criminals and terrorists. But the new “faceprint” may soon be in use for ATMs and other useful purposes such as unlocking your iPhone and even paying by credit card. Selfieguy The NSA have not been lagging behind either. Astonishingly, they can match satellite photos with any photos taken outside to identify the exact spot where that photo was taken. What about photographs taken indoors?
The pranksters posted a bulletin claiming than the new disorder was called “selfitis.” There were three stages in the disease which ranged from borderline (about 3 selfies a day) to chronic “selfitis” where you take photos of yourself all day and then post them at least six times a day.
2. Selfies can cause an addiction. Trying to get that perfect selfie for your Instagram account? Don’t try too hard because it can get addictive and you may become obsessed. An extreme example is the story of Danny Bowman who ended up trying to commit suicide. The reason for his desperation? He just could not get that perfect selfie after trying for 10 hours a day. The average was about 200 selfies a day. His mother saved his life and he is now doing some rehabilitation. He is gradually learning to live without his iPhone. 3. Selfies can damage real relationships. Did you know that your real friends can end up disliking you when you post too many selfies? It can damage friendships and relationships. This was the startling conclusion reached by researchers at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. They found that it negatively impacts levels of intimacy

et set for one of the most auspicious occasions of your life with perfect Engagement Makeup! This is one of the major turning points of life as it assures marital bliss between a man and his beloved. It is quite obvious for a woman to look stunning amongst all. Your makeup needs to be natural, soft, sweet and yet attractive. Here are some interesting tips for natural engagement makeup tutorial with color pink! Every girl love pink color as it appears natural at the same time attractive too!
EYE MAKE
To start our engagement look, one should begin with eye makeup. Use Mac foundation and apply it as a concealer. In case, you have dark circles, then before applying concealer, you should apply a corrector. Cover your eye lid area with a shimmery gold or champagne colour. To attain colour intensity, it would be recommended to use a flat eye shadow brush for this step.
Note: You need to create maximum colour intensity. Avoid going beyond the crease area as well as avoid moving inside the lid area. Over the outer corner of your eye lid, just a little above the crease area, apply a bright pink eye shadow for a metallic finish. Use a blending brush in a wiper shield motion. You should go with the pink eyeshadow softly as it gives an illusion of deep set eyes. For those having bigger eyes, this step will give a soft smoky effect. On the lower lash line, apply same pink eye shadow which will give a smoky effect. On the upper and lower lash line, apply dark kohl a bit thicker along with a gel liner to create maximum color intensity. A liquid liner can also work wonders. Use a good mascara to curl your lashes.
blush, you will get a glowing effect to the skin, which is ideal for the occasion.
LIP MAKEUP
Apply a pretty pink or plum lipstick to the lips to complete the soft pink appearance. Now apply lip gloss to the centre of the lips which will give plump lip effect. Tension
& Relaxation?
P
lease talk about tension and relaxation. When I am alert, there is a subtle tension which I need to maintain this wakefulness. It winds me up like a spring and then I feel horrible. How can I stay awake without all this tension? How to find stillness, though busy? I will just tell a small anecdote. One day a man from a small village in the mountains sees a tourist driving his car backwards up a narrow road towards the top of the mountain. The man stops him and says, “Why are you driving backwards?” The tourist replies, “They told me that there is no room to turn a car around on top of the mountain.” The man says, “I have lived here all my life. I know there is enough space to turn around.” Half an hour later, he sees the tourist driving down again, backwards. He stops the car and says, “What are you doing now?” The tourist replies, “You were right. There was enough room to turn around.” Whatever I have said is simple: Start being aware with day-to-day, routine actions, and while you are doing your routine actions, remain relaxed. There is no need to be tense. When you are washing the floor, what is the need to be tense? Or when you are cooking the food, what is the need to be tense? THERE IS NOT a single thing in life which requires your tension. It is just your unawareness and your impatience. I have not found anything -- and I have lived in all kinds of ways, with all kinds of people. And I have always been puzzled: why are they tense? It seems tension has nothing to do with anything outside you, it has something to do within you. Outside you always find an excuse only because it looks so idiotic to be tense without any reason. Just to rationalize, you find some reason outside yourself to explain why you are tense.
or of the future, and missing the present which is the only reality -- that will create tension. IT IS A QUESTION of simple understanding; there is no need of any competition with anybody. You are yourself, and as you are, you are perfectly good. Accept yourself.
This is the way existence wants you to be. Some trees are taller; some trees are smaller. But the smaller trees are not tense -- neither are the taller trees full of ego. Existence needs variety. Somebody is stronger than you; somebody is more intelligent than you -- but in something, you also must be more talented than anybody else. Just find your own talent. Nature never sends any single individual without some unique gift. Just a little search... perhaps you can play on the flute better than the president of the country can be a president -- you are a better flautist than he is a president. There is no question of any comparison. Comparison leads people astray. Competition keeps them continuously tense, and because their life is empty, they never live in the moment. All they do is to think of the past, which is no more, or project in the future, which is not yet. This whole thing drives people almost abnormal -- insane. Otherwise there is no need: no animal goes mad, no tree needs any psychoanalysis. The whole existence is living in constant celebration, except man. He is sitting aloof, tense, worried. A SMALL LIFE, and you are losing it and every day death is coming closer. That creates even more angst -- “Death is coming closer and I have not even started living.” Most people realize only when they die that they were alive -but then it is too late. Just live the moment.
Death is coming closer & I have not even started Living.

Winter & Summer -
Winter S
By Shijing Xiao
Winter The nights are so long, and the daylight is as precious as pearl. That’s my thought of Canada’s winter. I firstly noticed that it’s getting dark as early as four o’clock in the afternoon when I was on the bus back home one day in the late November. It was raining outside, and I could see raindrops on the window. The driver didn’t turn on the lights in the bus, and it was warm enough for me to fall asleep at the back row. I tried to keep my eyes open and I saw passengers kept getting on board at an exchange port, with umbrellas in their hand and raindrops falling onto the ground. The bus was getting crowded and the air was becoming stale. But when the bus stopped at the destination, I still said “thank you” to the driver – it’s something I never did when I was in China. It’s also like a magic word that can make my journey less uncomfortable. I must admit I hate winter days in northern areas. My memories about cold winter aren’t very delightful. I remember when I was studying in the Netherlands, the sky in winter was almost as gloomy as it was here. It also got dark at about four o’clock, right after I finished my last class at 3:30. One sign of winter coming is that I realized I should turn on the lights on the bike, otherwise I might get fined by the policeman. I also remember how hard I rode forward on bicycle routes. My hands, although with gloves on, were frozen. Sometimes there was sudden rain, so my glasses would be blurred, and I needed to wipe down the raindrops. But in Amsterdam, everyone rides like this regardless of the coldness, rain or even snow. When I sit on the couch at home, writing this down, I feel that I see two of my ‘selves’ in cold winter. One is sitting on the bus in darkness, looking outside of the window. The other is riding her bike from school, hoping that the rain would not come before she arrives home.

Summmer Summer
Summer I arrived in Vancouver on a cool summer night. Days are long during summertime so it still sunny and bright From the balcony, I could see the view of the Holland park, some trees hidden behind the Skytrain rail and the faraway mountains. “Vancouver is a city in a forest.” That’s what came across my mind at that time. From that day on, I would take a picture at my balcony every day during sunset when the sky is covered with clouds in orange, yellow and pink. I think these pictures can really calm me down and expel the anxiety of a newcomer. I’m a person who’s particularly sensitive to weather – when I was studying in the Netherlands, my grades in summer semester were always better than those in winter. So the nice weather, along with fresh air and gentle breeze, has rendered me some confidence to look for new opportunities in this alien city.

Understanding Your
Employee Rights in Canada.
C
anadians have the right to be treated fairly in workplaces free from discrimination, and our country has laws and programs to protect this right. The Canadian Human Rights Act is a broad-reaching piece of legislation that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity and other grounds. Also, Canada’s Employment Equity Act and the Federal Contractors Program require employers to take active measures to improve the employment opportunities for specific groups of people in our country. Both the labour rights and responsibilities of employers and employees within federally regulated sectors fall under the Canada Labour Code. The rights of foreign workers in Canada are also protected under federal or provincial/territorial labour laws. “The fundamental principle of decency at work underlies all labour standards legislation...” Fairness at Work: Federal Labour Standards for the 21st Century. In terms of employee rights, we’ve come an awful long way from 1872. That was the first ever year of our annual Labour Day parade. Back then – if you can imagine this – it was still a crime to be a member of a union in Canada, under the law of criminal conspiracy. This initial parade called for the release of 24 imprisoned leaders of the Toronto Typographical Union.
They’d been arrested for going on strike to (gasp) reduce their work week to a mere 58 hours! Today that standard workweek is between 40 to 48 hours. Clearly workplace laws have improved dramatically since that Draconian period. Yet many employees still don’t know what their rights and obligations are. Since being informed can help you stand up for yourself in your job, we’ve assembled some helpful resources for you. Acts That Cover Your Basic Employment Rights: Hours of work, minimum wages, sick days, vacation and severance provisions. All of these and many more related items are spelled out as Employment Standards. These are the minimum standards established by law that define and guarantee rights in the workplace. Each province and territory has its own legislation. It’s compulsory to place an Employment Standards Act poster in plain sight of employees for workplaces covered by this legislation. If you are such an employee, the Labour Program administers the federal labour standards that define employment conditions in your place of work. Find out if you work in a federally regulated business or industry. If so your employment is governed by the Canada Labour Code.
74
The Times of Canada -JAN 2020 Acts That Cover Discrimination and Employment Equity: The Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, age and a number of other grounds. It came into force back in 1985. Since then it has been updated and ongoing. Another piece of legislation in this area is the Employment Equity Act (EEA), which falls under the Department of Justice Canada. These laws are meant to protect the rights of four “designated groups” in particular: women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal people, and visible minorities.
a talk with your Human Resources department or union representative. Should expert advice be needed you should contact an employment lawyer. 130 years ago they were putting Canadians who went on strike into prison. Sure, we’ve evolved enormously since that time. But only by knowing your basic rights – and reaching out for advice when necessary – can you protect yourself from arbitrary actions of unenlightened employers.
The Canadian Human Rights Act functions alongside the Employment Equity Act. The major difference between the two is that the CHRA prohibits discrimination in general, whereas the EEA requires employers to use measures that improve employment opportunities for the four designated groups. Where To Find Out More: Would you like to learn more about what your rights are if you get downsized or your employer goes bankrupt? How about health and safety regulations that are meant to shield you from harm? The following are some online resources where you can find some initial information: Federal Department of Labour – Canada’s federal Labour Program promotes “safe, healthy, cooperative and productive workplaces.” Basic Workplace Standards by Province – A brief comparison of minimum wages, paid public holidays, pregnancy and parental leave, hours of work and overtime, etc. Workrights.ca - Gives you information on the labour codes to your province, and to compare practices in your region with those of other provinces and territories in Canada. Canadian Labour Congress – CLC brings together Canada’s national and international unions, the provincial and territorial federations of labour and 130 district labour councils. Be Informed Or Call In The Experts… Think you know your rights as an employee? Probably not as much as you should. For instance, there’s a general misconception that salaried employees (as distinct from hourly workers) are automatically excluded from the Employment Standards Act. Not true. If you’re, say, an Executive Assistant earning $44,000 a year, you could still be entitled to overtime after working 44 hour weeks consistently, depending on the province of employment. If you feel that your rights are being violated, try having

IELTS OR CELPIP? By -Manpreet
One of the most common questions which I come across from the students is whether they should prepare for IELTS or CELPIP. Which one is easier? The fact is, we cannot generalize that one is easier than the other. It varies from person to person and one should carefully consider both options before making the final decision. To reach this decision, you must get an overview of these two tests and the comparison ahead in this article could help you to reach a logical conclusion.
Similarities between IELTS and CELPIP
4Both are standardized tests to evaluate English proficiency of non-native speakers. 4Both tests four key skills: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. 4Both are acceptable by Canadian immigration for applying permanent residency, various Canadian academic institutions and by Citizenship authorities. 4The final score in both is compared to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). 4Both the tests are conducted at various centers across Canada 4The online study material is available for both the tests. However, as CELPIP is a newer test, the availability of study material for CELPIP is lesser than IELTS. 4Both tests have two forms:
IELTS-Academic VS IELTS-General.
The former one is for students aspiring to take admission in universities of English-speaking countries and is widely accepted test across certain universities of the world This is also a requirement to join certain professions in these countries such as medical profession (doctors, pharmacist and lab technicians). The latter one, however, is for migration and work purposes. CELPIP-General test VS CELPIP- LS General test: The general test evaluates reading, writing, listening and writing skills of candidates in a 3-hour long test and is accepted by IRCC for permanent residency applications. It is also acceptable to take up courses for certain professional designations, CELPIP- LS General test: This test evaluates listening and speaking skills of candidates in an hourlong test and is approved by IRCC for citizenship applications.
Differences between IELTS and CELPIP
4The major difference is in the format as IELTS is available in two formats: paper-based and computer-based whereas CELPIP is a computer-based test. 4CELPIP is completed in one sitting approximately 3-hour long while in IELTS; Reading, Writing, listening tests are taken at once in a single test room, speaking is taken separately at different time and perhaps different day sometimes. 4Speaking for CELPIP is done through recording your voice on a computer whereas it is face-to-face conversation with an examiner in IELTS. 4While listening, CELPIP test allows you to adjust the volume of headphones whereas it is fixed in IELTS. Moreover, some IELTS conducting centers do not provide headphones and listening is conducted by playing the recording in open. 4The result for IELTS is declared 13 calendar days after the test, however, candidate can request faster results in CELPIP (within 3 business days) with an extra charge of $100 plus taxes.
From the above information, you could decide which test suits you better. If you are using computer less frequently, it may cause problems such as typing speed and comfort to use it. Therefore, IELTS paper-based test could be a better option. However, if someone is hesitant to speak in front of some person but can do so in front of the computer can go for CELPIP. I hope it clarified your basic questions about these two tests. For more detailed 77 information, you can visit at our center.

Tips to maintain positivity in life aHaving a small green space: Place gardenia at your work station once a week. a De-clutter: Yes, it’s an overthrown advice but it is de-cluttering that’s the core foundation of success at work. aPositive group support: Positive group support is important to help each other through difficult times. Surrounding your positive people will help you stay positive in a negative situation. Plenty of people will roam around you, avoid them. Their negative attitude will let you down and be counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve by practicing positive thinking. aAdjust focus in life: You should train your body and mind. This will happen with exercise. Through exercise we release those natural endorphins in our brain that make us feel better.
aFocus on solutions and not problems: Where and how you focus your attention determines your emotional state. When you zero in on the problems you are facing, you create negative emotions and stress. When you shift your focus towards actions that can improve your circumstances, you will create sense of self-efficacy that yields positive emotions and reduces stress. aExercise has physical as well as mental and emotional benefits. It will boost your self-esteem for having the discipline to exercise. It is an excellent way to reduce negative thoughts from your mind.. aPositive outlook Be it in personal or professional life, maintaining a positive outlook is important. Declutter and focus on solutions and not the problems, say experts.

The Secret to Longer Life Of course, it doesn’t mean that you’ll only see the good things in life and choose to ignore all of the negative parts. It doesn’t mean ignoring life’s stressors as well, since there won’t be a positive side if there isn’t a negative one in the first place. What we mean is that when faced with a problem or obstacle, optimists tend to understand the situation for what it is, measure it more fairly and are more likely to come out of the other end unscathed and still positive. Optimists are also generally more inclined to believe that come the right time, good opportunities will come and their hard work would pay off tenfold. And while those pros are all essentially emotional and mental. But it’s not all just positive thinking since the study showed that optimistic people are more excited with life, and are therefore more encouraged to eat healthy, diet and constantly exercise. Previous research has also shown a link between optimism and better cardiac health, stronger immune system and lower mortality risk.

yurveda is world’s oldest sciene.Ayurveda theory and treatment is based on Tridoshas: Vata,Pitta and Kapha.Any imbalamce of these doshas results in any disease in the body. Eczema is a disease characterized by skin rashes that have redness, swelling, itching, dryness, and flaking. In Ayurveda Eczema is described by the name “Vicharchika. Eczema is a form of dermatitis where inflammation of epidermis occurs. It is activated by the immune system. It can be primarily attributed to a poor diet and lifestyle which impairs digestion and aggravates Pitta dosha . According to Ayurveda, eczema and psoriasis are a result of too much fire, or Pitta, in the mind-body. The excess Pitta inside the body manifests toxins on the skin which result in the itchy flare-ups associated with eczema and psoriasis. .Pitta shows up in the skin as blisters and breakouts due to the accumulation of internally heating toxins called ama. When these toxins enter the deeper layers of the bodily tissues they contaminate them to cause this condition. However, eczema may also be caused due to an imbalance of the other doshas. Here is a look at the different manifestations of the condition based on the
dosha that is aggravated.. . Essentially, the causes of eczema can be understood as: Hereditary factors, Environmental factors and life style.. Vata (Air): Dry Eczema If eczema is dry, flaky and thin without redness or burning, this is an indication of Vata eczema. This type is aggravated by an excess of air and wind and lack of moisture within our bodies. It is most often aggravated in the heart of the winter season when it is most difficult to stay hydrated and nourished. Pitta (Fire): Inflamed Eczema Eczema that appears as red and is accompanied by burning or pain, is aggravated by Pitta - the fire dosha. This is due to an excess of heat energy. Kapha (Earth and Water): Wet Eczema Kapha eczema appears shiny, wet, and has bumps that look like water blisters. Kapha is the earth and water element and prompts skin conditions that are itchy and moist.

INSULATE YOUR HOME TO KEEP THE HEAT IN AND YOUR ENERGY BILLS LOW By Vimta Homes
INSULATE YOUR HOME
TO KEEP THE HEAT IN AND YOUR ENERGY BILLS LOW By Vimta Homes
I
f your home feels cold in the winter, it may not be your heating system that’s at fault: it may be your insulation. Adding more insulation or upgrading to better insulation is a cost-effective “fix” for just about any home that’s more than about 10 years old. Unlike a new heating system, insulation is relatively inexpensive and always permanent. Once it’s in, it requires no maintenance. It will also help reduce your energy bills, because a home that is well-insulated is more energy efficient, which means it costs less to heat in the winter or cool in the summer. It’s also quieter, since good insulation also acts as soundproofing, and if it’s well ventilated and air sealed at the same time, it will be more comfortable, too, with fewer drafts and more consistent temperatures in each room or level. WHERE TO INSULATE? Insulation should be installed between the heated and unheated areas of your home. The best place to add or upgrade insulation is usually the attic. Proper insulation in your attic can reduce how much energy you use by 20 to 60 per cent.
foam plastic, but come in just four basic types. You may need to use only one type or a combination of several, depending on the space you are insulating and whether or not the area you want to insulate is exposed (not hidden behind drywall or tile, for example). • Blanket insulation is available in either rolls or batts, and is usually made from fire- and mould-resistant mineral fibres. It is placed tightly between the joists or studs in exposed walls, floors and ceilings (good for attics or other unfinished spaces). You can install blanket insulation yourself, but you must follow the manufacturer’s directions: the fibres can irritate your eyes, skin, throat and lungs. • Blown-in, loose-fill insulation is made up of fine loose fibres or fibre pellets thatare sprayed into walls or between roof or floor joists with special equipment. Some blown-in insulations can be applied through a small opening, without removing existing drywall or other surfaces. Blownin insulations generally require professional installation or an insulation blower machine.
WHAT INSULATION TO USE? Insulations are made from a wide range of materials, including melted glass spun into fibres, expanded volcanic rock, recycled newsprint and
86
The Times of Canada -JAN 2020 • Rigid board insulation is made from glass fibre or foam plastic materials and has a higher insulating value than blanket or blown-in insulation, but also costs more. The boards are lightweight and easy to cut and handle, but difficult to fit into irregular spaces and you must have exposed walls, floors or ceilings to use it. Some rigid boards are now available with an attached fire-resistant, moisture-resistant or decorative covering. You can also order boards pre-cut to specific sizes for an additional cost. • Spray-foam insulation must be mixed on site by a trained contractor or professional installer, then sprayed directly onto a surface or poured into enclosed cavities using a pump-driven spray gun. The foam expands in place
and sets in seconds; it’s then covered with a fire-resistant material, such as drywall. Check your current attic insulation: • If you have less than 150 mm (6 inches) of insulation, it will definitely be worthwhile to put more in. • However, if you currently have vermiculite insulation (or even suspect you do), donot touch it! It may contain asbestos. Vermiculite insulation poses very little risk if the attic is sealed off from the rest of the house, but if you’ve decided that you must renovate or improve your insulation, call a qualified asbestos removal professional to remove it. Never try to remove vermiculite insulation yourself.
DIY or Hire?
Add or upgrade your ventilation at the same time Adding insulation can be relatively simple in some areas of a house, such as the exposed walls of an unfinished basement, and very complex in others, such as around the vents in an attic ceiling. It’s also very important to choose and install your insulation correctly. We recommend you talk to the people at your local supply store to make sure you buy the right insulation for your space, and that you consider hiring a qualified professional to install it for you.

Top Budgeted Living Room Makeover Ideas
I
deas which involve little imagination, and little money, add instant style to any decor.
1. Lighten Up With Wicker Inexpensive wicker that looks as if it belongs outdoors changes the mood of any room. Put chairs in a sunny corner of their own or mix them with your upholstered pieces. 2. Hang Plates Plates in unexpected colors make a fresh wall arrangement. Vary hues (within a family), sizes, and textures. Put the most dramatic plate toward the center (lay out the plates first to experiment); attach wire plate hangers and hang plates on picture nails. 3. Create a Side Table Stack modular storage units to make a stepped side table with surfaces for displays and lighting. Create miniature in the cubbies, or stack reading material that you’re going to get to someday. 4. Canvas the area Hang canvases painted with interior latex paint to brighten blank walls. Think big: The canvases should fill the wall. 5. Make Your Own Art Even photocopied art looks sophisticated when it floats between two pieces of glass in Document Frames. The wall
color shows through the glass, creating the illusion of a custom mat. 6. Be Crafty A variation on the idea: Make use of mittens missing their mates. Cut felt to fit the backing of the frame each, then use craft glue to adhere the felt. Center the mitten on the felt and glue it down; let dry overnight. 7. Go Natural Use shells and other beach bounty to warm up a kitchen, an entryway, or a stairwell by creating a rustic, relaxed display. 8. Think Visually Add interest to a store-bought lamp shade with the help of ribbon, glue, and an eye chart. 9. Fake a Headboard An easy paint project: Create a headboard. 10. Hang a Gallery of Photos Mine your albums for your best shots (pick a theme: weddings, birthday parties, vacations) and put them in identical frames. Hang in a tight grid or a long line—you can’t go wrong if you stick to a geometric arrangement. 11. Reflect Your Style Define a space—here, a foyer—with a mirror that adds both

drama and light. This one is a hand-me-down dressed up with one coat of spray paint. 12. Bring in Shades of Colors Colored lamp shades can make a bold statement. Limit the colors to one per room, and select other lamp shades in neutral tones, such as parchment and white. 13. Stack Your Books Piled books draw the eye. If shelves aren’t high enough or deep enough to accommodate oversize books, stack them on a flat surface, such as a bench or an end table. 14. Cluster Candles Candles look best when massed, particularly on a spacious surface, like a coffee table; the larger the surface, the larger the candles should be. Group four or five pillars of different heights (same color) in glass containers. 15. Mix Patterns No matter the season, your bedroom will look spring like year-round with floral sheets or pillowcases paired with crisp white linens. Pick patterns with white backgrounds to keep florals harmonious. Drape bedside tables with vintage floral tablecloths or white matelassé runners. 16. Bring the Outdoors In Lend an entryway an earthy vibe with a coat rack made from
found materials. Using polyurethane-based glue (such as Gorilla glue), attach a stone to the end of a wooden drawer knob, then screw each knob into a plank of wood. 17. Repurpose Furniture Rickety seating can be given a second life as a bedside table. If there’s a hole in the caning, place a tray on the chair to hold an alarm clock, a reading lamp, etc. 18. Pump Up the Color Perk up a dull room with vibrant hits of a color like green. Though this space is accessorized generously with the shade (starting with the big burst in the rug), even something as subtle as green blossoms can add pop. 19. Showcase a Collection In the months when your fireplace goes unlit, use it to display a collection of vases or other objects. Gather similar pieces, staying in a simple palette, in a variety of heights and shapes. 20. Amplify Your Space Tight spaces expand and rooms seem roomier when you prop up a large mirror (at least three-fourths as tall as the wall). It’s a classic interior decorator’s trick to create instant―if not real―square footage.
