Rock and roll
By Lily Ralston, Staff Editor and Allison de la Garza, Staff Writer Why roll when you can skate? AMS students participated in the roller skating unit in P.E. from March 1st-17th, with the glow in the dark skating party on March 10th -11th. P.E. classes learned crucial skills such as regular skating procedures, skating forward, backward, braking, and how to fall. When asked about their skating glow party experience, Bryce Ward, 7, said “it was an interesting experience, and it was a bit difficult. My favorite part was the skating party.”

Spacing out By Lily Ralston, Staff Editor and Allison de la Garza, Staff Writer This year AMS 8th graders took an all day field trip to the Cosmosphere. 8th grade students got to visit the museum, see a planetarium show, and watch demonstrations of rocket science. The Cosmosphere mission statement is: “Inspiring Innovation Through Science Education and Honoring the History of Space Exploration.” The Cosmosphere began in 1962, located in Hutchinson, Kansas. “Some of the most exciting space education in the country is not coming out of Washington or New York or California or even Texas. It's coming from a place in Kansas called the Cosmosphere.” - Author: Eugene Cernan

We came. We saw. We calculated. The AMS Math Relay team practiced for almost a month before their competition on March 1st. At practices, they worked on a variety of math problems and got to know each other. Mrs. Robin Anderson, the Math Relay team coach, provided hot chocolate during the morning practices and taught them new concepts that would later help them on the day of the competition. Together they learned, laughed, and accomplished their goal. The competition was at Maize South Middle School. The students were given 45 minutes to answer as many questions as they could. The “test” had 80 questions that were all multiple choice. After the 45 minutes were up, they took a 15-minute break. Next, students were given another 45-minute “test” with 80 questions, but they were allowed to use a calculator. The 8th grade team placed 3rd and the 7th grade team placed 7th. 8th grade AMS student Nic Sporleder took first place for individual scores. Overall, many members of the team learned something new, met someone new, and had fun. "Math Relay taught me new math concepts I never knew." -Alyssa Clutter, 8

Q-U-I-N-T-E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L. Definition: Representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class. Can you spell that? At the Wichita Suburban League (WSL) Spelling Bee, AMS competed and took home a victory. Savannah Emerson, 7, shared that the students "spelled well." Among some of the top spellers, Allison de la Garza, 7, won first place at the WSL spelling bee. Her winning word was “resinous.” Saturday, March 26, 2022, was the Sunflower State Spelling Bee. Nathan Rosen, 6, competed in this challenging spelling bee. He represented Andover Middle School as he traveled to Newman University of Wichita. Rosen shared that he felt "half nervous, half excited," before the spelling bee. We are all proud of our AMS spellers and congratulate them on their accomplishments and success.

Where Everyone Belongs is the motivation for Andover Middle as the 8th and 6th graders bond together for an afternoon. This WEB event took place on March 4th. WEB leaders played card and board games with their groups. The WEB event was split into two 30 minute sections, the first half was games, the second half was playing outside on the football field. 6th graders that attended got to spend time with their WEB groups and leaders, and got to socialize with everyone together outside. The Hawaiian themed dance that was hosted at AMS definitely had us at aloha. The open gym, concessions, and most importantly, the dancing. Lots of AMS students joined together in the commons to dance the night away. Avery Hurt, 7, shared that her favorite song that was played at the dance was, “The Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid. Sean Mansoor, 8, replied with, “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. 1

Give me a break
By Ellie Johnson, and Lily Ralston, staff editors, and Katie Robert, staff writer Flowers blooming and showers falling! Spring break brought some of the best memories for years to come. People traveled all across the world for spring break. According to Jurga, writer of 17 Best Spring Break Destinations In The USA: Where To Go And Tips from “Full Suitcase”, some of the most popular locations to travel to in the US include Moab, San Francisco, Oahu, Disneyland, Las Vegas, Charleston, and San Diego. Many of our very own AMS students traveled for spring break. People travel during spring break for family but also for vacation, and time to get away and relax. Kennadi Noyes, 7, traveled to the Bahamas, and Evan Hartman, 8, traveled to the Virgin Islands. Many people have different opinions on where the best vacations are. When Emma Jittawait, 8 was asked where she thought the best Spring Break vacation would be, she said, “Skiing in Colorado.” Some would disagree with Emma on this. Avery Allums, 6, said, “A beach in Florida.” Warm or cold, sun or snow, vacation is a great experience, one you should all know.

march into madness
By Emile Rivero, Staff Writer
It’s that time of year again. Time for thrills and, well, madness. March Madness is back, and as usual, it has been so crazy. The highest-seeded team left is the Kansas Jayhawks, at the 1 seed. This is the team's sixteenth Final Four appearance, representing the state of Kansas strong. A big "Cinderella" story has this year has been the St. Peter's Peacocks. As the fifteen seed in this tournament, they upset the two seed Kentucky Wildcats and the four seeded Purdue Boilermakers. The Peacocks became the first fifteen seed to ever make the Elite Eight. During the regular season, the leading scorer in the NCAA was is Peter Kiss, who is averaging about 25 points per game. Keegan Murray is leading the Power 5 conferences in points per game, with about 23. The National Championship will take place on April 4th at the Caesar's Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

baffling brackets By Emile Rivero, Staff Writer
did you make a MM Bracket?
Along with watching great college basketball, fans can pick who they believe will win each game and ultimately predict the national champion using a tournament bracket. The closest someone has gotten was when Gregg Nigl got 49 games correct back in 2019. However, nobody has ever gotten a perfect bracket. The odds of acing it is 1 in 9.2 quintillion. Many students here at AMS also have made brackets. Jacob Thiel, 7, stated that he picked the Gonzaga Bulldogs to win it all. The Bulldogs were looking like favorites to win it all, with the odds of +225, but the Arkansas Razorbacks stunned them in an upset victory.

Then and now By Maddy Wallace, Staff Editor
“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak,” famous fashion designer, Rachel Zoe. Over the years fashion has evolved into what it is today. In the 90s, baggy jeans and colorful clothing were trending. If you ask your parents, they can probably recall rocking out a tie-dye shirt or maybe a pair of jeans that could fit a whole person in one leg. White shirts with jeans were also a popular style in the 90s era. Many of us were born in the late 2000s. So some of us may be more familiar with the styles that were “the thing” at the time. Baggy and big jeans had grown out of style but wearing jeans were still popular. Women's jeans became lower at the waist and tighter. For men, jeans were slightly loose and comfortable. Will jeans ever go out of style? Tops were still colorful like in the 90s but muted tones like tan and white were seen more. Most of our childhoods were spent during the 2010s. At this time current-day trends started making appearances. Jean shorts and leather jackets were a favored outfit choice for many. Teenage boys typically wore sweats or jeans with a sweatshirt. Types of tank tops were also well-liked. Women wearing skirts and leggings were seen more often during the late 2010s. Some fashion trends in 2019 and 2018 still exist today. So far in the 2020s leggings, skirts, jeans, and shorts are all common in a teenage girl's wardrobe. For boys, shorts are a part of an everyday outfit. Although, pajamas are worn by many middle and high school students. Some popular clothing brands include: Nike, American Eagle, Lululemon, Adidas, and H&M. Nike shoes are especially in style right now. What’s your favorite thing to wear?

Blast to the past By Bella Bouddhara, Staff Writer
Welcome to the 21st century! In this day and age, youths tend to take for granted the everyday items used without knowing how or when they originated or were released. Some of the most familiar technology for this age group that is still around today was actually created in the late 2000s. From the Nintendo Gameboy in April of 1989 to the Nintendo Wii in November 2006, all the way to the most recent device, the Nintendo Switch in March of 2017. Each of these devices was an evolution of technology that, at one time, was just as loved as those we use today. Several forms of portable music players, such as Sony’s Walkman and Discman were popular in the 1990s as well.

Not only have electronics changed over the years, so has the music we’re listening to. Your parents probably recall jamming out to the band Journey to motivate them to never stop believing on their brand new MP3 Player while we listen to Olivia Rodrigo’s break up songs through our Airpods. Some popular artists that were born in the late 90’s and early 2000’s are Shawn Mendes, August 8, 1998 and Billie Eilish, December 18, 2001. The growth of the music industry has come a long way. What started off as hardrock then became R&B has now evolved into country, rap, and pop. Speaking of music, have you ever heard of MTV? MTV, also known as Music Television, was a major source of music videos in the 1980’s. MTV was one of the most popular of all the entertainment channels and was even the first to bring the Reality TV genre mainstream. Today, there are countless reality shows airing, some into 20 or more seasons. Some of the longest actively running shows that you may know of are Cops, which began in 1989, The Real World, 1992, and The Challenge, 1998.

Who, what, when, where. Bucket lists are a popular item for people to create. Whether it be traveling, learning a new skill, spending time with others, or facing a fear, there are several accomplishments people hope to achieve in their lifetime. Over the years, there have been numerous extensions of the original bucket list to include lists exclusively featuring travel, adventure, nature, food, and fitness. Whether it be to skydive or visit Hawaii, we all have things we wish to accomplish, and a bucket list is the perfect way to achieve it.

As shoes have gone from athletic use to fashion, they are an essential part of living life. Not only do you wear them to get around, but you can wear them to express yourself and your style. With over 900 shoe manufacturers in the US, there are many different sizes, colors, and options available to purchase. Students can show their style with many different types of shoes. The most popular shoe at AMS appears to be Blazer Mid ‘77. They are a high-top, black and white shoe that goes with practically every outfit. Nataleigh Stanley, 8, says she likes Blazer Mids because, “They are cute, and go with every fit.” Most trends come and go, but this one is here to stay. Birkenstocks have always been a fan favorite. With over 300 different varieties available, they certainly steal the show. From fuzzy Birkenstocks to waterproof shoes, all of the options are truly unique, and stylish. Issac Holt, 7 said he likes Birkenstocks because “I can just put them on real quick in the morning.”

QT a quiktrip QT By Ellie Johnson, Staff Editor, and Katie Robert, Staff Writer Gas stations have been around in the U.S. for over 117 years, and are one of the most convenient places to go, whether it's on a road trip, or on the way to school. Besides grocery stores, gas stations are great if you want to grab a quick snack. Similar to stores, most people have a set idea of what they want by the time they walk in. Some common grabs are Takis, slushies, chips, and more. Hannah Oeding, 8, said she always grabs, " a Dr. Pepper slushy and a soft pretzel."QuikTrip has been serving its customers for over 60 years now. From gas to gum, QuikTrip is a quick, easy, and reliable gas station.

What's up
By Izzy Kwaw, Staff Editor How often do you look up? How often do you take the time to appreciate the masterpiece above you? Many people are so involved in the world around them that they forget the sky has so many things to offer. The sky is defined as everything that lies above the surface of the Earth, including the atmosphere and outer space. The sky, made up of gasses in the atmosphere like carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor, traps some of the heat from the sun's rays, which would otherwise go back into space. This keeps the Earth at a comfortable temperature and prevents it from getting too cold. Next time you go outside, make sure to thank the sky.
Leaping into spring. After all the cold and bitter wind, many are ready for spring with its warm, sunny days and pretty pastel colors. Watching the flowers bloom and the trees come to life can be one of the most exciting parts of the new spring weather.
The Spring Equinox is the first day of spring season and occurs when the sun passes the equator moving from the southern to the northern hemisphere. Day and night have approximately the same length. Spring Equinox is near 20 March. Source: primaryhomeworkhelp.co
According to National Geographic, a rainbow is a multicolored arc made by light striking water droplets. They are formed when sunlight hits a rain droplet. Some of the light is reflected. The electromagnetic spectrum is made of light with many different wavelengths. Each of those wavelengths are reflected at a different angle. This makes the spectrums separate, making a rainbow.

Race to Space By Izzy Kwaw, Staff Editor and Rose Gosset, Staff Editor “Shoot for the stars but if you happen to miss, shoot for the moon instead.” These wise words were once spoken by Neil Armstrong, the first astronaut to land on the moon. Space is one of the most interesting and unique places to exist, and being an astronaut requires a lot of bravery and preparation. Space explorers have only discovered 5% of the universe, and there are other universes and galaxies that we can’t even imagine outside of our own solar system. Who knows… there might even be life.
Constellations Shine bright like a diamond. There are 88 beautiful constellations in the sky, each unique and different. Antlia, Chamaeleon, Crater, Hydra, Leo, Leo Minor, Sextans and Ursa Major. constellations are the constellations that you can see in the April night sky.
The Moon The Moon's distance from Earth is only about 240,000 miles (385,000km) and its effect on earth is huge. Tides are mostly affected by the moon and its gravitation. The moon has eight phases called new Moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full Moon, waning gibbous, third quarter and waning crescent.
The James Webb Telescope, founded by NASA, was launched on December 25, 2021. It has undergone many different upgrades. Recently, the mirrors on the telescope are being focused, aligned, and cooled down. This telescope will start taking amazing pictures of galaxies from 14 billion years ago, right after the Big Bang.
