The Hub's Mark Ellis, overcame a spirited Ed Klimonis performance to win the coveted Serenity lnsurance Singles title this week, at the New Tavern, San Miguel. lt was a "who's who" of local darts talent, the finalists both having their fair share of "top gun scalps".

Ellis won the Bull for 1st throw and managed 2x80+ and a 125, which proved insufficient as Ed K. was quickly into his stride with 140,100,90 and D4 to go one up.

Just 2x80+ from the El Capitan proprietor with throw, was pounced on by Ellis who responded with 140,100,140,57 and 64 out, a 15 darter for 1-1.

The Hub man opened with 85 in the 3rd, similar scores from both followed until Ellis hit

100,and 124 to leave 30 (later to admit a miscount).

Two throws later he found D4 for 2-1. Nerves played their part in the 4th, each player finding T20's, but not converting into 3 figures, bar a 140 from Ellis which allowed him time to eventually nail D1 for the title.

All credit to Ed Klimonis, who had earlier disposed of many fancied contenders, the 1st none other than Mark Farmer, certainly one of the joint favourites, followed by Simon Todd (Dannys), Carlos Escansiano (Gap) and a real "ding dong" with Matt Smith who missed an 11 darter against Ed, but still hit the comps best leg of 14 darts.

Beating Smith got Ed K. to a semi encounter with the popular Sam Salt, who rapidly found himself 2-1 up after a 15 darter that included a maxi. The Cap man responded with D5 for 2-2 and D2 for a place in the final.

Salt's 3 figure scores - 2x100,125,134,139,180.

Ed K's - 4x100,2x140.

Ellis encountered a similar rough ride to the final, facing "Bees" Dave Rowlinson in his 1st match. Both players sit at the top of the 180 league with 5 apiece, Ellis a 2-1 winner. Suso Madrid went the same way, again 2-1.

To win the board, the very capable Danny's skipper Bob Smith stood in Ellis's way. Despite a 180, Smith went down 2-0, Darren Hurcombe now the only obstacle for a final place.

Hurcombe had earned his semi place by tak-

ing out the "140" man Sanderson 2-1 in the board final. Now facing Ellis, the CK.1 Lads supremo opened with a 180 and outed on 73, for 1-0.

Four minutes later a 60 finish in 2, gave the "Lad" a 2-0 advantage. Ellis responded with a D20 in the 3rd despite 2x140 from "big H".

A 108 out and 2x140,from Ellis made it all square, with one leg to play.

5 tons or more featured in the 5th, Ellis finding D16 for the win and the right to play Ed K in the final.
