Carp R Us Angling
On Thursday 20th April the Carp-R-Us stalwarts fished the Rio Segura at what is named the Bigastro section of the river but is actually at Jacarilla.
Very strong winds had been expected after the previous two days and whilst the coast still had them, just a few miles inland was simply tranquil. Not even the odd gust.
End pegs, for whatever reason, tend to do best. Paul Burton who lives local to the venue drew peg 1 at the upstream end of the match section.
He used his well tested pole-feeder method with corn and groundbait to catch carp throughout most of the match. They weren't the biggest carp but his 5.74kgs was enough to win the match quite comfortably.
Paul fished the venue last weekend and caught, after about a half hour of playing it, what is thought to be the largest carp yet to come out of this venue, a carp of just over 20 lbs (9 kgs+). The photographs showed it to be a scale perfect wild carp of around 0.75m length.
Second on the day was another local, Willy Moons, who using his usual method feeder approach, this time with pellet, weighed in 3.88kgs. Club President, Roy Dainty, had 2 carp for 1.40kgs and third place.
On the downstream end peg, Match Secretary Tony Flett managed to break a mid section of his pole whilst setting up. This did not do him any favours as using the feeder he was unable to fish the main feature of his swim, a far bank inlet. He resorted to trotting and did catch some small barbel on maggot.
Every angler around Torrevieja knows Terry Screen, 'Mr Fixit' as he has become known for his expert skill in repairing rods and poles. Unfortunately, Terry has been quite ill this year and recently spent several weeks in Torrevieja University Hospital. He now awaits an operation.
I am sure every angler wishes him a full and speedy recovery. Tony has joined the lengthening queue for a pole repair. Get well soon dear Terry. 'You've gotta keep the customer satisfied. Satisfied'.
Next week's match, 27th April, is at El Bosquet with pegs 816 and 26 - 40 having been booked.
