WHEELS VOLUNTEERS EAGER FOR EASTER

Australasia’s biggest all-vehicle event is returning to Wanaka in April 2025, and with volunteer registrations now open, there’s a number of familiar names on the register from previous years.

Rangiora residents Sarah and Jude Maginness have fond memories of their first experience as volunteers at Wheels at Wanaka in 2023. “What’s not to like?” Sarah said, praising the event’s fantastic atmosphere and professional organisation. From parking up classic car displays to setting up trade stands, the couple appreciated the variety of volunteer roles available and enjoyed the convenience of camping nearby, making their experience hassle-free.

“Being looked after so well and having our own party to thank us for volunteering was a real highlight,” Jude added.

The Maginnesses are excited to return for the final Wheels at Wanaka in 2025 and plan to make the multi-day journey with 'Patrick', their beloved 1961 Commer Cob, which will also be exhibited at the show.

In addition, they will rally their British vehicle club, 'Pombombs', encouraging members to participate and display their own classic cars. With anticipation, they look forward to the vibrant atmosphere, connecting with likeminded people from around the country, and celebrating the diverse array of vehicles on display. “This event is world-class, and we wouldn’t miss it for anything!” they said.

TriWanaka Swim/Run Series begins with a BBQ

Head down to the Watersports Centre on the lake front this Friday around 5.30pm (for a 6.00pm start).

Week 1 of the annual 5 week swim /run series by TriWanaka kicks o with a BBQ and swim/run events for everyone!

Take on one of the swim / run events of 1200m swim and 5km run, 800m swim and 2.5km run, or 400m swim and 2.5km run - or choose to do swim only. There will be a splash and dash for the kids too! Choose your event at registration on the night, and join us every week!

TriWanaka Committee said “We’ll have a water safety team each night keeping an eye on you all, and volunteers will make sure you’re kept on the right track on the run! It’s a perfect way to challenge yourself. If you’d like to support the club by becoming a member too, we’d love that - just ask at registration how to do it. See you Friday!”

Established in 2018 with the aim of reducing the local stray cat population, Cat Rescue Wanaka (CRW) provides compassionate care to the waifs and strays, which in turn bene ts the community and environment.

Since their inception, CRW has taken in an average of 86 cats per year, and ensures each cat is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and registered on the Companion Animal Register. Despite being busy with the current Kitten Season, The CReW are making a start on their annual kindling fundraiser, harvesting slash that would otherwise go to waste, and packing it into banana boxes ready to warm
