The Wanaka Concert Society is delighted that internationally acclaimed Pianist Jeffrey Grice will perform at the Lake Wanaka Centre on Tuesday 18 February at 7.30pm.
Jeffrey Grice was born in Christchurch. Following graduating at Auckland University, he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth Arts Council grant and a French government bursary to study in France, obtaining in 1978, a Licence de Concert from the Ecole Normale Superieure de Musique de Paris. In 1979, he moved to Israel for a year to consolidate repertoire with Enrique Barenboim (Daniel Barenboim's father).
Other formative influence came from American pianist Charles Rosen’s guidance and the
coaching of Argentinian-born pianist Florencia Raitzin-Legrand, a Laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation, the Cziffra Foundation, and the Sophia-Antipolis Foundation.
Jeffrey Grice has recorded extensively with several best recordings in Europe, Japan and New Zealand, and given concerts in France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, England, the USA, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Abu Dhabi, Malta, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Uganda, Rumania and Canada.

Micro-Fiction - Writing for Today’s World

Wānaka Writer Stephanie Fieldsend describes Micro-Fiction as ‘writing for today’s world’.
For the writer, it pushes creativity into places it’s never been before. For the reader it is accessible, quick to read, and at its best, shows up in eyebrow raises and smiles (or smirks) of admiration.
Micro-Fiction is clever, precise, strategic, emotional, and often dramatic. A variant of Flash Fiction (which has up to 1500 words). Micro ction has less than 300 - and even the names sound like fun. A Dribble (itty) has up to 50 words. A Drabble (bitty), up to 100 words. A Trabble (titchy), up to 300 words.
Wānaka Library is hosting the series: Itty, Bitty, Titchy Fiction on Saturdays. On 15 and 22 February and 1 March.

Upper Clutha Lions Club are hosting a Celebration Dinner on Wednesday, 12 March with guest speaker Rosanna Overcomer ex Gloriavale.
It takes immense bravery to leave the con nes of an insular community.
Rosie and husband Elijah are second generation Gloriavale members who eleven years ago with their three children found the courage to leave the exclusive religious sect and move into an unknown world in South Canterbury. Now a mother of 6 children, farmer, public speaker and author. Upper Clutha Lions are honoured to have Rosie speaking at this year’s International Women’s Day Dinner and invite women of all ages to treat themselves to a night out for dinner, entertainment and to hear ‘the untold story’ from a courageous woman.
Upper Clutha Lions is a service group that supports many community causes especially helping local women and girls reach higher goals.

Update on the Month of January 2025 from our Fire Service
This month, to mix it up, here is some information about your local Brigade. It was established in 1953 and moved into our current station in 2016. The old station is on Ardmore Street and is now a Macpac store. We have three vehicles. 851 is our standard firefighting truck. 857 is our Pump Rescue Tender. It is a capable firefighting truck but also has hydraulic cutting gear (the ‘Jaws of
Life’) onboard. 8526 is our van to transport firefighters and equipment. We currently have 34 brigade members and a fresh batch of recruits just about to commence training, which is every Monday night.
