MY COMMUNITY NEWS Paws on the pavement for SPCA’s annual appeal The Otago Society for the Prevention of cruelty to Animals· Inc (SPCA Otago) has been the voice of animal welfare in Otago since 1882. Together with their generous supporters, they continue to work hard to improve the lives of animals in the Otago region. Every year the team at the SPCA Otago Animal Centres in Dunedin, Alexandra and Oamaru care for thousands of animals that have been lost, abandoned, injured or abused. The SPCA is a charitable organisation that receives no Government or local body funding, operating almost entirely through the generosity of people who care.

The Annual SPCA Dog Walk is on Saturday 7th April and leaves from the lakefront opposite The Lake Bar at 10.15am, for a walk along the lakefront. To be involved it is $5 per dog and raffle tickets will also be available for purchase on the day. The SPCA Op Shop is situated in Alexandra opposite the Warehouse. Anyone who would like to make a donation of items or clothing can do so at 117 Riverbank Road Wanaka.

Located next to the existing Wanaka Recreation Centre at Three Parks, it will feature a 25m, eight-lane lap pool, adult hot pool and a dedicated learners’ pool with separate paddling area for toddlers. QLDC Sport and Recreation Manager, Simon Battrick says the new facility will be a real community asset for the Upper Clutha.
It won’t be long before the new Wanaka Pool opens to the community. Construction of the three-pool complex is due for completion by the end of May with an official opening date to be announced
