We invite suitably qualified applicants to work in a job share role to operate and oversee our brand-new, purpose-built Assisted Living Apartments, where residents will live predominantly independently, but with day to day support.

The role will be rewarding and suit someone who enjoys working with older persons in a close-knit, family environment. The focus at the outset will be to welcome and induct our new residents into their apartments and to assist with their living requirements going forward. Our existing Aspiring Village team will provide full support to the Assisted Living employees along the way.

The 24 apartments will be staffed for 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. The role will be shared between various staff members, with shifts arranged to suit one’s lifestyle requirements.

The role will suit individuals who are highly organised, have initiative and practical skills, be hugely empathetic towards the elderly and be good communicators. Whilst this is not a direct care role, having a nursing or care background would be an advantage but not a prerequisite. A St John Level 1 Certificate (or equivalent of) is essential but this can be worked towards prior to employment. The successful applicants will be well remunerated according to experience and ability.

Wanaka Snowsports Club is having its annual snow gear sale on Saturday 13 May from 10.00am - 2.00pm. At the Wanaka Presbyterian Community Church. Wastebusters will be launching their brand new series of Low Waste Living - Household workshops this May to help to encourage more people to reduce their household waste in our community.

Join Wastebusters for a fun evening of sharing practical information, tips, low-waste recipes and inspiration to help you to feel motivated and empowered to live a life of less waste, save money and feel good about your impact!

The Low Waste Living - Household workshops will cover:

Since these early days a group of dedicated volunteers has collected and preserved an impressive library and data base of records and images of the history of this District. The Society has recently embarked on an extensive Oral History Project to professionally complete and record interviews with long standing local residents.

Last month I mentioned chimney fires, we saw a few more of these over April, so again I’d like to remind everyone to check and clean your fireplace before lighting that first fire of winter. Chimney fires can quickly spread through a house, and we’ve been lucky so far that none of the calls have been more serious.
