GUESS WHAT’S HAPPENING AT WANAKA PLAYGROUP? There is so much going on at the Wanaka Playgroup our heads are in a spin.

We’re turning 21!

Wanaka Playgroup is celebrating its 21st birthday this month with a fun party on Thursday 28 July at the Squash Club on Stone Street from 9:30-11:30am. All carers and their children aged 0-5 years living in or visiting Wanaka, as well as all past Presidents and Coordinators are invited to help celebrate, with face painting, birthday cake and lots of play. Bring a plate to share.

We’re fundraising with great benefits!

Our popular annual American Hot Dog Stand will be held outside New World on Saturday 16 July, with freshly cooked hot dogs priced from $4 each. We’re also selling tickets for our Winter Raffle, with great prizes including firewood, a handcrafted wood holder, and a scrumptious food hamper. Tickets on sale at the hot dog stand and through many Wanaka Playgroup carers.

We have a new playground!

Wanaka Playgroup was fortunate to receive a grant recently from the Graham and Olive West Trust. We would like to thank the Trust for our grant which has been used to purchase a much needed new outdoor playground.

We’ve got a new look!

Mount Aspiring College student Rosie Smith has designed the new Wanaka Playgroup logo which you will be seeing at playgroup, community events, and around town. Rosie has designed a great logo which represents Wanaka Playgroup’s philosophy, and is inviting, colourful and fun. We’d like to thank Mount Aspiring College for collaborating with Wanaka Playgroup on our new logo.

After sadly farewelling our lovely Linnet Julius due to her new employment, we are pleased to welcome Anna Magrath as the new Wanaka Playgroup Co-ordinator.

Anna brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role and we are excited to have her on board!

Wanaka Playgroup is a wonderful way for carers and their children aged 0-5 years to connect on a Monday and Thursday from 9:30am - 11:30am at the Squash Club on Stone Street. Visitors are welcome, and the first visit is free, or $3 per family thereafter.

Kia ora koutou kātoa Kahu Youth would like to thank all the amazing local companies and individuals who came together with us to make Matariki such a huge success at the Dinosaur Park on Saturday the 18th June.

When we started these celebrations back in 2010 we had two goals in mind. To raise awareness of maori culture and tradition in the Upper Clutha area and to bring the community together to celebrate each other with each other in a safe, smoke and alcohol free environment.

This event grows year on year and once again this celebration was even better than the last with more schools, community groups, businesses and locals alike joining in the fun. Seeing so many people of so many ages, backgrounds and cultures’ all coming together and having a great time was a amazing and humbling experience for us to be involved with.

We cannot express how grateful we are to have the support of the community we all live in; this truly is a community event – for you, by you. Without you all doing what you do and giving what you give we couldn’t do what we do. Thank you.

This week has pretty much been a week of crashes and drink drivers with a few other matters thrown in for good measure.

Here is a snapshot of some of the jobs we attended this week.

We had â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;7â&#x20AC;&#x2122; motor vehicle crashes on our roads and only a couple of those can be attributed to the ice on the roads. Almost every one of these crashes could have ended far worse than they did and every single one was avoidable. Lets just stay on our side of the road. Stay under the speed limit and drive to the conditions.

Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re still getting lots of driving complaints coming through. We appreciate everybody out there calling these in and if possible get your passenger to use the phone to get a photo or video of the bad driving. It could negate you needing to be called to court to give evidence.

This week we processed â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;5â&#x20AC;&#x2122; drink drivers and suspended 2 driver licences.

We had three suspicious person complaints this week.

One that had a perfectly good and innocent explanation and another where a male was going from door to door on Hunter Crescent asking for money. He was selling WLFNHWV IRU D UDIĂ&#x20AC;H WKDW ZDV WR SURÂżW KLPVHOI ZKLFK ZDV not legal. The 3rd occasion happened in Bevan Place when a thin blond woman estimated in her 20s walked into an address. She was not known to the occupants and left when confronted.
