Local company, Empowering Education, will deliver an innovative event at the end of July. ‘What to do when…’ is a full day childhood illness seminar designed to provide parents and carers with important illness and injury information and practical tips to make it easier for families to support a child who is unwell.

Thirteen leading health professionals from across the healthcare industry will present talks covering accidents, injuries, and common illnesses. They’ll cover what to look for, how to manage symptoms, and when to seek medical help. The day will also include two hands-on workshops.

TOP TIP: Windows 10 – Should you update?

Our advice, at this stage, is to hold off upgrading to Windows 10, particularly if you are running Windows 7.

We have seen a number of customers who have upgraded, experienced issues, then want to roll back. This is possible but is not always 100% clean.

Don’t worry, the “free” upgrade is available until next August, so we recommend waiting until Windows 10 has been out for a few more months and most of the bugs are sorted.

This week has been almost a duplicate of last week with staff dealing with crashes and drink drivers.

There were four single vehicle crashes on the Crown Range, Cardrona Valley Road and Mt Aspiring Road.

All of these crashes involved the vehicles running off the road. Luckily no one was hurt. It gets a little boring repeating this but the majority are due to ice and gravel. Motorists just need to slow down and drive to the conditions.

There was a single vehicle crash where a vehicle has run off the road on Beacon Point Road. Unfortunately WKLV GULYHU ZDV ÀRZQ WR 'XQHGLQ ZLWK VHULRXV LQMXULHV The other crash was at an intersection running off State Highway 6. A driver has passed another car about to turn right off the State Highway. There was a dispute whether the turning driver had indicated or not but that is not the issue. It is illegal to overtake on the right at an intersection and encroaching into the opposing lane.

Three drink drivers were apprehended this week, with 5 the previous. The levels this week were high (839, 781, 400). Remember 250 mg of alcohol per litre of breath is the limit.

Next week we intend to focus on restraints and cell phone usage. So expect to see our guys out parked up watching for those of you not belted up or using a phone.

The rest of the week saw our staff attending disorder over the weekend, Family Harm incidents, some shoplifting and the theft of skis from a roof rack. Please ensure your skis and poles are secured / locked to your roof racks or even better, take them inside.
