All these questions will be answered at the Festival of Sport and Recreation being held on Saturday the 19th September, from 10am – 2pm at Mt Aspiring College. This one stop ‘Have A Go’ expo is designed for the young, for the youth and for the post-youthful!

This week most of our work revolved around Road Policing activities. We attended two crashes, one at Hawea Flat where a vehicle lost control on a freshly graded gravel road, the other a head on crash on the Albert Town Bridge. Thankfully there was no life threatening injuries in either crash. There were 4 drivers processed for drink driving this week. With the 3 last week, that makes 7 in a fortnight. Three of the drivers from this week are off to court; the other was dealt with by Infringement Notice. It appears the message has stopped getting through and we need to put more of a focus on this aspect of Road Safety. So please, be aware if you are driving over the next few weeks expect to be breath tested. A wee reminder to those of you under 20, the level for alcohol is zero. Lastly, thumbs up to the sensible young man who passed his keys to one of our constables to stop his associates drinking and driving. Over the last couple of weeks we have been running checkpoints during the day checking on seat belts and vehicle condition. I am please to say almost everyone is wearing their seat belts. What we have noticed is the number of vehicles with expired Diesel mileage. Keep an eye on this please. During the early hours of Thursday morning a lone male has entered two rooms at The Moorings Apartments. The occupants were awoken and when confronted the male has left. We presently are viewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify this male. Nothing was stolen and no threats were made so we are unsure of his motive. He may have just been XQGHU WKH LQÀXHQFH RI GULQN RU GUXJ DQG ORVW 7KH YLFWLPV are shocked and worried by this. Although Wanaka is one of the safest places in the world we still need to take basic precautions to avoid becoming victims of crime. Please lock your doors, both in buildings and cars. There were 3 reports of damage over the week; a letter box, car window, and shop window were damaged. Have a good week.
