The International Day of Yoga (IDY) Wanaka is back for its fifth year, promising a rejuvenating experience in a new venue with the theme of Ahimsa (non-violence or non-harming).

This year's event will focus on integrating this first Yama into daily life and yoga practice.

Organisers have lined up 19 diverse classes, featuring new yoga styles and instructors, including a Kundalini teacher coming from Dunedin. "This is a very special IDY edition," said Keity Garcia, one of the organisers. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Community Network/Link and the Wanaka Community Hub, which will also host the event. The IDY is inclusive, welcoming participants of all yoga experience levels.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats, blocks, blankets, and water bottles.

Volunteers are sought to assist with reception duties. Those interested in volunteering can contact the organisers for more details. The support of volunteers is crucial in ensuring the smooth running of the event and enhancing the experience for all attendees.

Coeliac Awareness Week - Gluten Free Pizza Making

Wanaka Coeliac Kids Club is now in its fourth year. The goals of the club are to support children and their whanau living with Coeliac Disease.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten consumption. When people with this condition eat gluten - a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye - their immune system attacks the small intestine. This damages the intestinal lining, leading to nutrient malabsorption and various symptoms like diarrhoea, fatigue, and weight loss. The only treatment is a strict gluten-free diet, which allows the intestine to heal and symptoms to subside. Untreated coeliac disease can cause long-term complications, emphasising the importance of early diagnosis.

Come join us for this year’s Coeliac Awareness Week kids club event where we will be making delicious gluten free pizzas. Parents are welcome to stay for a cup of tea, and a chat, and to help out. For more information visit www.coeliac.org.nz

Path Wanaka Coordinator

Path’s purpose is to support parents to support their youth, by coordinating agencies in Wanaka whose mahi is to support, develop, and provide opportunities for the growth of young people.

The purpose of this role is to support the governance of the organisation through communication with a range of stakeholders, creating partnerships that support Path’s purpose, and maintaining the administration and finances of the organisation.

This is a project manager/administrator role and involves:

• Partnerships - creating ways for the community to engage with Path, and its work, and supporting the member agencies to be able to collaborate;

• Communication - Interpreting our research and community feedback to keep our comms up to date and engaging; identifying effective digital channels for comms to several community target markets + creating new ways to engage about youth-focused matters.

• Administration and Finances - ensuring that all the boxes are ticked and reports are accurate to make sure that we are meeting our statutory requirements as a charitable organisation, and that the paperwork is well organised and communicated to member agencies as required.

The ideal person for this role would:

• Love working for a youth-focused organisation

• Love working with volunteers

• Be able to manage the different comms channels

• Would like to work flexibly - sometimes at MAC, sometimes at home, and have regular, but flexible hours of work

• Path is a pretty unique organisation - possibly one of a kind for a community in terms of different agencies focused on youth, and we are looking for someone who would embrace that uniqueness and support the group in its journey to be a source of support for the Wanaka community.
