Renowned New Zealand based musicians, Cellist Andrew Joyce and Pianist Jian Liu, have crafted an ambitious programme that celebrates their musical and cultural heritages.

Showcasing music for cello and piano from the UK, China, and NZ, the virtuosic duo brings a colourful assortment of melodies for the first half, followed by a larger romantic sonata by Brahms for the latter half of the programme.

Before joining the NZSO as Principal Cellist in 2010, UK born Andrew Joyce played regularly with the London Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras and toured the world’s great concert halls as Guest Principal.

Although the pair have played together in chamber ensembles, this is their first collaboration as a duo.

An AWE Inspiring World First Takes the Stage in Wānaka

WHAT: At the World’s Edge cultural festival

Folk music is a celebration of culture, people, place, and the shared stories that unite us.

It’s only fitting then that in a region that’s become a melting pot of cultures and experiences, folk music will be at the fore when the At the World’s Edge (AWE) festival returns this spring.

Over the course of a fortnight, Aotearoa’s finest chamber musicians will be joined by international artists and emerging domestic talent to perform a dynamic, energetic and varied programme of chamber music pieces in stunning settings.

The performances include compositions by this year’s Composer in Residence, Eve Castro-Robinson, whose new work

for clarinet and string trio, Earth’s Eye, will receive its world premiere here in Wanaka when it is performed at The Rippon Hall.

In addition to the seven ticketed AWE programmes, AWE+ offers a range of free curated events that are open to all including performances, workshops and talks with AWE’s musicians. Upper Clutha students have the opportunity to meet musicians and listen to them play when the festival heads into early childhood centres and primary and secondary schools around the region.

National Volunteer Week - Weaving the People Together

Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu National Volunteer Week is 16 - 22 June, an opportunity to recognise, thank, and celebrate volunteer contributions to our communities!

This year’s theme is ‘Whiria te Tangata - Weaving the people together’ and in keeping with this, Volunteer South is o ering an opportunity for locals to connect with nonpro ts that support causes ranging from conservation to social support to emergency response. “We are excited to collaborate with QLDC and The Kiwi Kit Community Trust, to bring Find Your Perfect Match back to the region!” says Regional Lead, Neha Gosalia. “The speed-dating format creates a fun environment where people can learn how they can connect over a shared passion, contribute skills or learn something new, all while improving their sense of belonging, therefore enhancing both individual and collective wellbeing.”

Cleaning Up The Cardrona Volunteer Event

WAI Wānaka, in partnership with Love Wānaka and Wastebusters, invites the community to come along for their upcoming ‘Cleaning Up The Cardrona’ event on Thursday, 20 June at the Ōrau/Cardrona River from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

“Our volunteer clean-up will take place below the Cardrona River bridge, o Ballantyne road.” explains event organiser Heather (WAI Wānaka). “ The Cardrona River ows directly into the Mata-au/Clutha River, our clean-up is in an area that is often overlooked and could use some love.”

Volunteers will collect, sort, and record the rubbish collected, which is entered into the national ‘Litter Intelligence’

database. All are welcome to join, with hot tea and snacks provided.

The event is supported by local businesses Wanaka Civil and Interlink Ltd, who are providing their trailers to help collect larger items. Additionally, proceeds from Mitre 10 Mega Wanaka’s sausage and burger sizzle (on the same day) will be donated to support future clean-ups.

“We ask volunteers to please bring gloves, warm clothes, sturdy footwear and a waterbottle,” says Heather, “as well as friends and whānau if they’re interested!”

The role:

You’ll be working in our Yard and Drive Thru area, dealing with our building trade customer base. Path Wanaka Coordinator

Path’s purpose is to support parents to support their youth, by coordinating agencies in Wanaka whose mahi is to support, develop, and provide opportunities for the growth of young people.

The purpose of this role is to support the governance of the organisation through communication with a range of stakeholders, creating partnerships that support Path’s purpose, and maintaining the administration and finances of the organisation.

This is a project manager/administrator role and involves:

• Partnerships - creating ways for the community to engage with Path, and its work, and supporting the member agencies to be able to collaborate;

• Communication - Interpreting our research and community feedback to keep our comms up to date and engaging; identifying effective digital channels for comms to several community target markets + creating new ways to engage about youth-focused matters.

• Administration and Finances - ensuring that all the boxes are ticked and reports are accurate to make sure that we are meeting our statutory requirements as a charitable organisation, and that the paperwork is well organised and communicated to member agencies as required.

The ideal person for this role would:
